M7 root/unlock question - Verizon HTC One (M7)

Hello anyone. I'm brand new to HTC. I got a M7 today that has the 4.4.2/Sense 6.0 update. I come from primarily all Samsung devices which are extraordinarily easy to hack. All of this S-Off and different bootloaders and whatnot is foreign to me. I gather that the 4.4.2 update has thrown some sort of a wrench in things root wise. What's the easiest way to get a custom ROM on this thing? I'm fairly proficient with ADB. Appreciate any advice.
Thanks!

a new root is almost done, the other methods won't work on the new update. Just be patient and it should be out soon

New root it's done, but @jcase doesn't want to burn an exploit on just one device. Give it time for the Verizon m8 to get patched and he still most likely release the root exploit.

Got it, thanks. Can I proceed with unlocking the bootloader or achieving S-off and whatever else needs done or were all of these things affected by the update?

[Q] Verizon HTC one root?

Saw this posted earlier:
https://twitter.com/TeamAndIRC/status/371047150056009728
Is there any news regarding this? I know with the recent HTCdev lockdown, unlock is not possible, but it sounds like root is easily achievable.
I really only need to root. I don't really use any of the features that unlock would give me. Heck, the only root function I use is Titanium backup. I get free tethering (share everything) and always stick with the stock ROM.
Is anybody actually working toward a root only solution? Or is all the effort directed to a s-off unlock solution?
Same. I want to know as well. This guy seems like if it's such a cakewalk he should do it but as long as someone can figure it out I will be happy

You still want unlock. Changes made to /system while booted in the os do not stick.
Jcase will tweet something when he releases the exploit.

we want bootloader unlock, but S-Off isnt necessary just for root is it?
I think thats what we both mean - we're fine for now with no s-off, we just want root

Bootloader unlock is sufficient for flashing ROMs and rooting. S-Off is kinda superfluous.
That's what I had heard. Well I'm not installing too many applications yet so I won't have to start all over when bootloader unlock comes back around

I spent 30 min setting up my phone only to have it wiped by the bootloader unlock. Then it hit me.
Jcase said it would be "easy" for someone to work around it but he has not offered to do it. If you look he ends up specifically saying he is not going to work on it... I'm sorry my friends with the one... Hopefully someone else will come up with a solution. We had to wait a few times with the DNA so I know how it feels

I honestly think if its THAT much of a cakewalk he should just be able to do it, or to basically hand it to a dev (which he kind of said he did) instead of hinting at all this and doing nothing.
But it's not my place, so hopefully someone DID get the info and will have it unlocked asap
Yeah but better he hint to tip someone off then say nothing at all you know... Plus he like all the rest of us has a life outside of xda and I'm sure he has good reasons... I mean he has already done so much for many devices

True. I haven't been around for a while so I don't know much about him. But if he passed the info along to someone else it should work out

I thought you couldn't write to /system while booted unless you were S-Off. Has that changed? When the DNA was unlocked we weren't able to do so until Beaups (I think) found a workaround with the kernel.
Also, JCase, in a previous tweet, said his PREVIOUS exploit still worked on the Verizon One. I haven't searched, but maybe it's already been released?
I'm at work so I can't look up the specific tweet for you guys.
He said he already passed the root exploit on

If you are careful you shouldn't have a problem. But if you flash iffy things then you can easily end up with a brick. That's why most developers stay S-On.

[Q] Return to Stock

I looked through the HTC One forum here but I couldn't find a full explanation. I need to return my HTC One for warranty work on the camera.
How would I return it to stock?
I'm S-OFF (via Sonic)
I'm bootloader unlocked (via HTCDev)
I'm currently running the Andybones ROM BoneStock.
Thanks all.
-------
I understand that this is super basic to many of you, but I don't want to risk bricking it while trying to get it back to stock... to prove that I have done some research.. here is what I was figuring that process might look like...
Restore nandroid backup from immediately after S-OFF.
Unsure if I need to flash RUU at this point.. basically I need the default HTC recovery.
Probably need to relock the bootloader?
I know S-ON would be the last step - if I actually need ot bother with that - but I need to make sure all of my ducks are in a row because I know if I have anything unsigned on there before I do that then I'm in a bad way.. unless I rumrunner, I suppose..
Basically, I could really use some help to make sure that I don't botch it when I just need a decent camera so I don't miss more pictures of my kids.
Thanks all.
If it were me, I'd mod the hboot with this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2496023
This doesn't relock but I don't think they even look let alone dig. Esp. given the huge amount of camera probs.
and then ruu back to stock.
I used the RUU in the development thread, but you have to be s-off.
I used these instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2251800
Of course, just my two cents. You know the risks.

Is this a warranty exchange due to the purple hue? Just asking. It would almost be nice to have a phone that didn't have that issue, mine does. If it were me, I don't know if I would go through all the work to send it in and get it replaced. Especially since my HTC is flawless besides the purple tint. No gaps, no bends, no sharp edges, no flush power button...ect.

No, I think I could deal with that. I can't get the thing to catch focus on my intended focal point. Even when I tap the screen on my subject it just finds whatever is closest and focuses on that. I have to play peek-a-boo with the lens (cover it and uncover it with my hand) to get it to try and fall on a new object of focus.

+1 this. Same boat. Flawless except for the camera tint. Seems like a major headache to send it in. Also my device is s-off by Sonic so that'd throw $40 in the crappier and I like the piece of mind of java s-off over software.

I noticed that this camera isn't like my rez which could take almost macro close ups. I have had to make use of the focus lock to get the right thing in focus a lot. It might be software related. By the end of the week you might have a new camera app to try. I'd personally wait for that before going through that trouble.

Actually it's not since I dont have 2 conflicting beliefs. If I'm wrong about java s-off being harder to patch than software then at best I'm misinformed. But thanks for the response that served no purpose.

Well, s-off is s-off regardless. You can't patch s-off with an update. You can patch the exploit so no one can use the exploit if running the newer software, but you cannot, to my knowledge, update someone to s-on. But also, if you're like me, I'm not worried about any updates making me lose root cuz I'm not gonna let vzw update me. I'll wait for a ROM so as not to risk losing something as valuable as root.

That's what I thought. But correct if I'm wrong if we're s-off and have an unlocked bootloader can't we still load custom Roms and whatnot even if they do patch an exploit? Granted it would suck if we lost root BC so many apps need it.
Keep in mind guys, for those that wanna be ballsy with the 4.3 ota: Voodoo OTA isn't compatible with 4.3 yet. It won't save root. That's according to the Dev.

Indeed. My question is if Verizon patches rumrunner does that effect those of us that are java card s-off if someone makes a mistake and gets the ota without thinking? I've been wondering that just out of sheer curiosity. I generally wait for OTA zips.

Perhaps. In my eyes all the carriers are all about the $$$$$.
On the other hand you would think Verizon wouldn't make such foolish decisions such as delaying the One for FIVE MONTHS. I bet they lost tons of money trying to sell their crappy Droid lineup and failing miserably. They also delayed the S4 by about a month behind other carriers. I really don't know what goes through their head honestly. Whatever it is, it's not intelligence...

Not yet because that method relies on HTC dev unlock, something verizon forces HTC to disallow.....therefore you can't flash a custom recovery and root zip file. However many devs are already working on s-off, root etc so just be patient and thank them when its out.

You could do it even with sense 5.5, nothing new
I'm running a gpe rom, sorry for hijacking but does anyone know the exact mesument that is outputted through ogt cable. i know my Fiio e17 works on gpe roms but not on some others.
I wanna jump on this Verizon by-one-get-one promotion but I'm hesitant b/c there is no root yet.
Should I worry about that at all?
I know there aren't any ETA's for root, but does anyone have an educated guess?
Thanks. (I need to tether for work.)

Assuming you only need root on your phone, get them and only activate the one. Just wait until root to use yours (the free one). It's easy math.

[Q] root for verizon t807v?

ok. There are no threads here about any successful rooting of the t807v. There is a site (it kinda looks like a bot) called srsroot that claims it can root the t807v (VRU1ANK1)
Has anyone used srsroot before?
I believe the issue you face is a locked bootloader in typical Verizon fashion if I recall.

What can we do about this? I had no idea I wasn't going to be able to root when I bought this tablet otherwise I wouldn't have. Is there anyway it can be done? I'd pay someone, I mean I'd be willing to give 100$ possibly more... I don't know as much as most around here but I feel like it someone could do it.

if you want root you most likely have to wait until someone finds root for the note 4 or s6 (verizon variants)..
for example, when the verizon s5 was rooted, the root worked for most older versions and devices as well.. I dont think there is many devs working to root this tablet as there are working to root the vzw note 4.

If anyone with a t807v is on the build prior to NK1, let me know or provide us with the .tar file is possible and I think I found a method that would work to root the device.
ping pong root
Ping pong root works wonders to root the verizon s6 edge. I'm guessing they can do something with this piece as well?

Do you think T707v would behave the same? They both have s800 I believe. You can easily find ng7 .tar for t707v.
