TWRP Manager!
Best part is that I tested it, and you can flash files in Philz Touch too and it works!

Would this allow me to flash mods without tripping KNOX? I know I still could not flash a ROM, but would make it a lot easier than me doing all my MODs manually.

I read the original post here and though I may have been a bit skeptical, you are very right sir. This app is amazing. Thanks for the heads up. This made it easier for a newb like me. Cheers, Bill

No prob man, be sure to thank the Developer of the app too!

so if i have philz recovery I can using this??
but i would have to go to philz to restore? correct or will the twrp app restore my philz back up.?
thanks

So, im running Philz Touch and hesitation to try flashing something just cause I dont want to mess something up. What if I were to flash TWRP, is it better or more reliable then Philz Touch?

[Q] Stable touch recovery?

So is there a stable, dependable touch-capable recovery out there?
I keep reading warnings. Should I stick with Amon RA?
Thanks
I like the latest clockwork mod touch recovery. I've used it to flash many roms and have had success. I've had some instability in some roms but i chalked it up to failing to wipe all caches, and experimental new releases. I've tested TWRP only briefly but used it to flash one rom successfully.
I figured out the hard way that none of these touch recoveries are able to flash radios, so keep that in mind. I went back to AmonRa for that and then back to touch for convenience.

Continue to use AmonRa, is the most recommended recovery by Devs. besides if you're looking for touch features then you try this one here if you don't use it already.

how do I rollback to the old recovery

Hello,
I am having issues with the new recovery mode 6.0.14, how do I roll back to the recovery mode before this?
I updated my recovery using rom manager, it does not give me the option to roll back
thanks
Which one you want? I have 6.0.1.3 by sk8r and its touch. I can upload it but other than that you gotta download the one you want and flash it in recovery..
I used ROM manager and went back to 5.xxx

I haven't been able to do any nandroid backup ever since it was updated to version 6.0.1.4

I like TWRP more than Clockworkmod, since TWRP has a more intuitive touchscreen interface, unless CWM has gotten a touchscreen interface as well since I stopped using it.
As far as custom ROMs go, FreeGS3 is a good one built off of ICS. And, of course, you can never go wrong with CM10.

CWM does have a touch interface if you feel like paying an extra $1.99. Or for free if you know how to install an img file.
I havent tried TWRP yet, but I have heard a lot of other people suggest it.
ok so whats the deal with the counter??? i never heard of that on htc phones and thats all i really know.. when u flash a rom on this phone it does something to a counter correct?? and some app fixes it?? never mind i gots it triangle away!!! sweet!

[Q] Which Recovery

Which Recovey Do You Guys Think is Best CWM or TWRP?
I'm using TWRP because it's what I've used on my prior HTC devices and I'm familiar with it. I've read that 4EXT recovery might be available for our phones soon, and I'll switch to that if it becomes available.
Keep calm and flash on...

+1 on 4EXT, That's by far my favorite recovery:good:
Where did you hear that it was coming to the sgs3?
I emailed madmaxx on it and he said he was really busy with allot of other models and he would look into our sgs3's since it's a popular device.
Hopefully we will see it soon:fingers-crossed:
CWM is great, but TWRP is just awesome.
For me, TWRP has these little things that just make sense, like a link to wipe dalvik/cache right after you flash something, option to queue up multiple zips to flash in a certain order, option to compress your backups (because they do end up taking quite a bit of space if you have multiple backups), etc.

I believe I read on their site that they may begin working in it at a future date. I'm satisfied with TWRP, but I'm hopeful that 4EXT is "in the cards" so to speak.
Edit: it appears like they want to start working on the international version of the SGS3. Hopefully we might me able to sway them towards working on the stateside version first.

I like twrp personally. Layouts better and easier to use. Plus it has a built in file manager.
Cwm has the ability to prevent itself from being overwritten after ota update but there's other ways around this.
They are both good recoveries imo, just personal preference.

I prefer twrp (only when 4ext isn't available). I talked to madmaxx82 and he was in middle of a complete redesign/overhaul on the UI of 4ext when started having computer issues. Then he did say we r on the list. I was his beta tester for the HTC Amaze. He prefers the HTC devices so I assume will be doing those first.

Yes, install goo manager from the playstore and install recovery from there. No you will not be able to restore any backup made with CWM in TWRP.
Thanks for the quick answer. I think I'll just stick with CWM for now. I'd love to see EXT for us, I had that for the sensation and loved it and was a bit disappointed to find there wasn't a version here.

At a loss with cwm

Hello,
So I've been rooted for a while now, i was going to install a custom rom but decided not to a few months ago. Tonight, i decided to install aokp, however my phone would not go into cwm, only stock recover. I could have sworn it was installed, but fine, so i installed it once again with auto reboot in odin checked, and it still wouldnt enter cwm. I then tried to install it again with auto reboot checked off so i could see if i could enter it without the reboot. I ended up getting into it, but then when i was taking a NANDROID, it just froze on one of the first steps. Fine, reboot, try to enter cwm again. Nope, just stock android recovery. I am sure im installing it correctly and pressing the right button combos. I am at a total loss for what is stopping me from being able to enter cwm. I hope you guys know/help me find whats going on.
Thanks!!!
Zay
maybe you didn't actually "root" your phone to begin with lol
are you sure you have "superuser" or "superSU" app?
anyways to get CWM or TWRP recovery you need
find a up-to-date CWM or TWRP (if i spell teamwin recovery correctly)
download it
put your phone in ODIN Mode (download mode) by power + vol down + home
flash the recovery
i personally think twrp is better
they just released a new version which support ExFat
and all you need is just use terminal on your phone to install it.

Stock ROM has a built in script that reloads standard android recovery when it boots. The only way to keep it is to keep Odin auto reboot unchecked, boot directly in and make your nandroid/flash custom. Once you are on a custom ROM CWM will stick.
On a side note TWRP is a very nice recovery and many people find it much easier to use. If you insist on CWM, make sure you have the latest version. You might need to flash CWM again if you had a bad flash. It shouldn't freeze up on a nandroid.
Many people never experienced this because they flashed during early ICS when the device was released. The change was an update just before JB was released which caused this little annoying script to appear.

Thankyou!! That makes sense ;p. When I did get to start making a nandroid last night but it froze, right before it froze it said the free space on my sdcard was 1612 mb (or something like that) This is wrong, I have the 16gb i747 so I have 11.95 gb of usable storage for apps and such, after deleting some big apps I have 4.93 gb available, my sdcard is a 16 gb sdcard which has 12.06 gb available. Do the math and I have enough room on my sdcard for a nandroid, so what could be causing cwm to freeze and report false information?

what version of CWM are you currently running?
you could always try to download GooManager or ROM Manager from the Play Store.

CWM is very very funny and one of the reasons I switched to TWRP was for stability
In my experience errors come up on restoring images when 1) you don't use the same version you backed up the image with 2) you don't get to CWM through the same method you used while making the image (ie through ROM manager with your phone on).
