[Q] How to update Android 4.0.4 to 4.2.2 ? - HTC One X

Hi today i want to update my kind of outdated htc one x.
I rooted my HOX like 3 years ago because i had it sim-locked and wanted a different provider. I unlocked it and than (i cant remember why) relocked it and now unlocked it again. Because i want to install a custom rom.
I looked for some roms and deciced i wanted to run Viper X (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2087443) which runs on Android 4.2.2. I'm on Android 4.0.4 Sense 4.1 because i havent used this phone for a while.
I can't find any proper guides i tried this one : http://wccftech.com/update-htc-one-x-to-cm10-1-android-4-2-2/ but getting a error status 7.
Any help appreciated!
Oh and im only on hboot 1.12

I am sure to update stock software you need to relock the bootloader

Can you guide me trough this or know any good tutorials to do so?. I've been searching on google for ages but can't find any sites without dead links to the files and stuff.
Thanks in advance

Fastboot getvar version-main

I put my phone back to stock yesterday with the same RUU as you, and did a software update to 4.0.4.
What was the process you followed to get there?

Downloaded ruu, relocked bootloader by fastboot OEM lock or whatever it is and installed ruu by opening executable ruu file on my pc. Maybe do I have to flash recovery with the stock recovery? At the moment it just resets factory settings if I try to go into recovery...

Wonder why I can't get the update to 4.04 then?? With everything stock, when you go to recovery option does it just reset your phone? Back to defaults?

Although I'm not sure why we need this, we know which RUU works.
Try

So I tried flashing twrp recovery and its knocked out my sensors again. I've updated to 4.04 and when I tried installing my ruu I downloaded it said wrong version but its the same one I used before I updated to 4.04. What ruu version am I supposed to have now?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
The ruu updated your hboot. The old ruu has a lower hboot version. I think you have a ruu on the 1.29 base you need a 2.17 base ruu now.....please correct me if i'm wrong here mates !
Verstuurd van mijn HTC One X
Ok So I used the ruu to find out what version I should download. It is my current version is 2.17.980.6 and it wanted to downgrade it to 1.29........ So obviously that won't work. I went to the same thread I used when downloading the last ruu but can't find the 2.17.980.6 ruu anywhere. I'll keep searching but has anyone seen it??

Depends on what the tool does. When the tool is leaving the bootloader locked then yes you have to unlock it again and flash the custom recovery and flash the desired JB rom
But as far as i can see the tool does it al ....also unlocking the bootloader ... etc etc
updating your hboot to newest firmware for jb also means that you can't flash anymore roms based on the older firmware right ? (or atleast means that there will be a lot problems with "older" roms)
can we downgrade the hboot (firmware) at anytime ?

Thats incorrect ! You can still flash ics roms on the newer hboots. No problem at all !
There are some cases with aosp roms that require a different boot.img, and that gps doesn't work.
Downgrade of the hboot is impossible unless you have a s-off phone. And that is most unlikely

make nandroid backup
lock bootloader
update your bootloader(1.36) manually your firmware(bootloader) should be here
re-Unlock bootloader with the same unlock_code.bin you used to unlock in the first place
then install the rom and dont forget to flash the boot.img

I have my original Nandroid of Vodafone image when I unlocked bootloader: so it seems my easiest method without screwing anything up is using this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1859714
I am not as brave on this HTC One X as my old Desire HD was alot easier.
Thanks Vcek!
Your welcome, Yes if you have a nandroid backup its the easiest method to return.
Don't have to worry about One X, as long as your bootloader is unlocked(warranty void), its almost impossible to brick the One X, as long as its S-ON ;D
BUT REMEMBER, you must install the stock recovery to install the JB OTA.
You come to my next question! Stock Recovery. How can I check this?
I guess running this command ? fastboot getvar version-main

Download the Ruu mentioned above (dont forget to thank EddyOS) and once youve downloaded it, relock your bootloader. Once youve done that all you have to do is plug your phone into your pc and run the Ruu and it will make your phone stock Vodafone 2.17. Wont matter if your custom recovery or rooted, only needs locked bootloader.
Dont bother setting your phone back up once your up and running again, just check for ota update on the phone, there should be a small update. Do the update and restart the phone. Recheck for ota update and JB should be there. Voila! If it was me id factory reset as it always seems to be less bug free to me with ota updates.
If you want to make it a bit easier there is an all in one flasher that can lock, unlock bootloader, root, flash recovery.
Word of warning though. A few have had it wipe there storage (me twice) and lost all photos and music and so on, so back up first.
OK so did the above with almost 100% battery and RUU came back with battery under 30%

use JB flash utility.
But I think that " front camera of 9.7 is clear and better than 17.1" ^_^ so I love ARHD.

i can root in 4.4.3 ???
I was on the original 1.12 firmware, but here was my process.
I relocked my bootloader, used the 1.57 RUU to return to stock. Updated to 4.4.3 with the OTA, went back through the HTC Dev unlock process to unlock my bootloader, then flashed TWRP.
From there you can install a custom rom or use TWRP to inject root to the stock rom.

Firewater fails - can't S-OFF

Hello
So I tried running firewater on my One M8 but it failed. I got this 'remember the golden rule? Never take an OTA update? Apparently you don't. Device patched by HTC, you are out of luck.' Is there anything I can do? Btw I'm running CM11 if that matters.

As the many .... many threads on s-off already say :
Use a STOCK rom and a STOCK kernel and a STOCK recovery, then try firewater.....Does it fail ? Use SUNSHINE (Google it) when that fails you have to wait for SUNSHINE 3.0 (or whatever the next update will be called)
NO other way and NO other options are available !

Then i suggest to read up a bit more and learn the terms and all the things you need to know to get back to stock/how it all works/and what exactly certain things do. And most important why you need s-off and root.
Ask yourself these things first and then start modding a device.
