[Q] HTC One X won't turn on - HTC One X

I know there are already a LOT of topics concerning this - I have read through them all frantically, trying to find a solution before turning to asking myself.
So, here's exactly what happened, and what I've tried.
My phone was just fine, running perfectly, nice battery life. I had been running CarbonROM for about 2 months, without any issues, didn't change anything recent to this problem occurring. So one night I was at a party, and didn't have an available charger, so my phone ran out of power completely. The next morning when I came home, I set it to charge, the LED lit up, as far as I remember at least. In the evening I turned it on, and I got to the SIM pin-code unlock screen. I entered the PIN, and my phone turned off. No crash screen or anything, it just went straight out. I figured that maybe it hadn't charged properly, so I let it charge for a few more hours, and then tried again - same thing happened. I instantly tried to turn it on again, but this time nothing happened at all. I held the power button down for at least 1 minute, to no avail. When I put in the charging cable, the LED doesn't light up.
So, as I said, I have been reading around on this forum and other places, trying to find a solution. Some people said holding down the power button and volume up and down at the same time for 2 minutes would fix it, it didn't. I have tried several times. Most recently someone said I should connect my phone to my PC with the USB cable, and then hold down the power button and volume down. This time, something did happen. But not on my phone's end. I have done this 2 times, with the same result. At exactly 7 seconds, my computer turns off, as if I had "choked" it by holding down the power button on the PC. This seems really odd to me, since the phone can't even turn on, so I don't see how there can be any connectivity.
I hope someone here has a solution, knows why it happened, or can at least guide me in replacing any part if needs be. I hope not, though.

Bump
Should I just send it in for a repair? I have an idea that doing so will be very expensive...

Lumia 900 just died... like totally dead!

...and won't turn on. Totally non-responsive. It's barely 2 months old. I was browsing on it, and battery level was about 75% (3/4 charged). Connected to home WiFi. Now it's not responding at all - power button doesn't do anything. I have connected it to a power source; typically this powers on the phone even if it's off - nothing so far. Took out the SIM, and tried that too. No dice. I have the June 6th update installed.
Any one experienced something like this? Any thoughts? Any advice?

Did u try a hard reset?
1. plug into original nokia USB adapter and cable. leave connected for up to 1 minute. If nothing then,
2. as previous poster stated, do a forced soft reset holding down the power button for about 10 seconds.
3. try hard reset -- hold down volume down + camera key, then press power down for 2-3 seconds.
Good luck
Would you try something a little un-orthodox? It may sound strange, but before you go and wipe all your data from your device with a reset try this:
Take your device, put it in a nylon/plastic bag (like those you put your sandwich in) and seal the bag. Now put the bag with your device into the freezer (YES! that thing in your kitchen!) for 15-20 minutes.
After that, take your device out and try to turn it on.
This method worked for a similar problem which occurred with another Nokia device with a non-removable-battery, the N8...
How to perform a soft reset http://www.wpcentral.com/tip-how-soft-reset-nokia-lumia-800-lumia-900
Thanks to everyone who replied. I tried the key-combinations to perform a reset. Did not work. Used the Nokia charger and left it plugged in, no change. Even tried the freezer-bag advice... nada. Phone was truly dead, from a 100% running state. Extremely weird. I've been in touch with Nokia USA and would have taken it to the store on Monday morning.
HOWEVER - out of nowhere, totally randomly, it turned itself back on at some point. I had it on my bed-stand, and was in the other room when I heard it ring. Ran over, and sure enough - it was alive, well and performing like nothing had happened.
No idea what (if any) of the methods I tried worked, but it resuscitated itself.

LOL! You probably got the Lumia 900P - the Phoenix version!
To tell you the truth, yesterday I had a strange "almost dead Lumia 900" moment myself! I was on my way from work to the bus station, while listening to music on an internet radio station (I'm using the "Tunein Radio" app) when I decided to change the station I was listening to, and when I switched to the other station the screen became entirely black and all I could see is the station's Stop/Favorite/Bookmark buttons.
Anything I clicked on did absolutely nothing... At one point the screen became completely blank but the device was still working (I knew it was still on because I could hear the static 'clicking' sound in my headphones when I connected them to the device), so I just tried pressing and holding the power button for 10 seconds, and the device finally turned itself off...
After turning it on again, everything was working as if nothing happened... Odd stuff...

Galxy s2 Vibrating and crashes at loading bar.

So i've looked around and no one that i've seen has the same exact problem as i do. Here's my post in another forums about my problem.
Here's my story about my Galaxy s2 for T-mobile. My phone randomly turned off 2 days and whenever i tried to turn it on, it would restart and basically never get pass the blue loading bar screen. Second, i found out about this boot loop sequence and i was able to do a factory wipe.
After i factory wiped the data etc off the phone, i was able to use it until it ran out of battery, but then after i found out it ran out of battery, it wouldn't let me turn it back on, it wouldn't get pass the loading screen, once again. On the other hand, i am able to go to recovery mode or download mode, but the phone shuts off before i can even try and click on the options i want.
Today, i found out that if i kept pressing power button consecutively on the phone, I'd be able to go to my home screen and basically act as if nothing ever happened, it'd function as a new phone! I then had the nerves of turning off my phone just to make sure it finally works now, but my hopes were crushed and now the pressing the power trick does not even work anymore. It would probably work one out of 10-15 times, and in the end it'd still restart. I am using a gingerbread galaxy s2. My friend tried using the usb jib on my phone, and it worked but whenever he tried to plug in the usb, the phone would just restart. I am extremely frustrated with this, and if you can help, please do so because it's important that i fix this phone. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!
Hi there, thank you for the welcoming me to the forums. No, my phone is not rooted, it has always been gingerbread etc i never tried rooting because i never knew how:/ I believe this started when i was just browsing around facebook, so i'm not entirely sure what happened... Uhmm i tried going to download mode through the volume keys and power button when it's connected to usb to the i think it's odin3? and it'd be in the download mode but as soon as the computer says it's connected, the phone would just turn off again and bam, it's like nothing ever happened. My phone does charge when it's plugged in, but it doesn't show it's being charged but i remember my battery was dead last night and i charged it till today and now it's got power. ANd no i don't have a warranty:/ i really hope you can help me
Sounds like a faulty power button. Check out Mobiletech video for thier power button repair service.

HTC One M8 all of ths sudden wouldn't power the screen on

So I came home after being out for a bit and went to check my phone. When I hit the power button the screen didn't turn on. I then unplugged it and the charging LED stayed lit green once I unplugged it (it should have went off). I could not get the screen to turn on. I then plugged it into my PC to see if it'd recognize the device and nothing happened. Then, I had someone call my phone and it rang like it was on and went to voicemail, but the screen didn't do anything. I then reset it using POWER + VOL UP. It restarted and seems fine now... but I am not sure what that was. It is on stock 4.4.3 (I did the GPE conversion). Haven't had any issues with it until this. Hopefully it isn't a bad sign...

I don't think it's as a result of the device failing or something. I also had it happen to me only once and that was after I tried to install a program that requires root, it wanted to reboot but go stuck and didn't do anything. You could still hear the back ground notifications, ringing etc, same as yours, only difference being that I couldn't do a Volume up + power to reset, didn't work for me, lucky for me though it did pick up the device when plugged into PC.
I don't know if it's because of the rooting, or the rooting app or what the reason might be. Like I said it only did it once, haven't had a problem with it since(Been fine since the problem occurred sometime in April).
I mention the rooting app because it only occurred after I tried to grant access for root app, so... might be a coincidence, don't know.
Hope it's nothing serious for you as well :good:

Ahh, mine was a bit different. It was more like my phone froze and the screen couldn't power on. I actually couldn't hear notifications or anything or get them while it was like this. When the person called my phone it rang for them like they were connecting to my phone, then went to voicemail after like 5 rings (like if the phone was on). But my phone didn't ring nor did the screen turn on for the call, it was just frozen.
Once I hard reset the phone (POWER + VOL UP) when it came back on I got all the texts I'd missed since my phone messed up.
Happened to me once. The screen is on but black !
Required a hard reset

M9 won't turn on anymore - bricked?!

Hey guys
I was super happy with my Australian Telstra M9 until an hour ago. I plugged it with 3% of battery in for charging and turned it off to speed the process up. When it was off the charging icon showed up just as usual. After a few hours I came back, unplugged the phone and it flashed 100% for a second. After that - nothing! It just won't turn on! I pressed every button and every possible combination of those. I plugged it back in for a bit and connected it to my laptop. But it's not even recognized. I googled for a bit but found no solution. I rooted the phone a couple of weeks ago but didn't do anything like that today. No updates, no new apps only some WhatsApp and 9gag.
What do you reckon? Is it bricked? Will I get a replacement and how long will that take? I have to leave Australia in 9 days so I'm quite on a schedule. -.-
Does anyone have any advice?!
Cheers Max
Edit: is there a chance to recover the data? I'm traveling and forgot to back anything up. Some of the data is quite important. And do you think I'll get into trouble because of the root?
No clue, try a different charger maybe.
I tried three different charges plus my laptop. Neither of them worked. Is there gonna be any way to rescue the data from the internal storage or will the just wipe it after they repaired it?
I would try holding the power and volume up button for at least 2-3 minutes. If it does come on, as soon as you feel it vibrate, move your finger down to the volume down button and hold it until you get into download mode. Then boot to the bootloader and then recovery and restore a nandroid.
Oh my god!!! Thank you so much! I have no idea why but after a minute it booted up just fine an all my data are still there. I'm never ever gonna forget a backup anymore. But what happend? Why did it start again? Battery is down to 50% so it seems it has been running all night and was stuck at some point. What can I do to avoid this from happening again? I don't wanna get a heart attack every time the phone won't turn on
But for the moment I'm alright! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Hold power + volume up button will work in most cases.
TBH, don't really know what happened to you. Did you flash custom rom, recovery? or only root?
I didn't know that. I only new power + vol down. And I didn't hold it for a minute. I did nothing but flashing TWRP and root the stock rom. I didn't even change much with the root and only use it for titanium backup and adaway. That's why I was so baffled, when the phone suddenly "broke" because I didn't do anything unusual to it.

I'm glad you got your phone up and running. I know exactly how you feel, I had the same thing happen to me. I thought mine died when the screen went black after I flashed a kernel. Its always scary when the phone won't respond.
The phone was likely frozen. Power + Volume Up forces the phone to reboot after being held for a while. It could be some weird software issue due to the rooting and TWRP, but no one can say for sure. It might happen again but now you know how to reboot it If you really want to avoid the possibility of problems, you probably want to run stock and not root the phone or change bootloader... but what's the fun in that?
You're right no risk no fun. I'm actually waiting for cm so running stock is no option anyway
Thanks for saving me lots of headaches
FYI - I thought I had bricked mine as well - no flashing activity in a couple of weeks, all good chargers. Even made an appointment for repair.
Read the "hold power and vol up for a minute or two," and was like... nooooo... 10 seconds is the max you'd do that for... but tried it... bam, worked like a charm at ~45 seconds for me. Got into HTC FTM mode in which no option worked (reboot to bootloader, simlock, couple of others seemed to just pop immediately back to this weird non-download menu). Holding power for a while after that reset the device. Working now.
Thanks for the thread... been doing this for five years and this is the first no-charge no-response event I've had

Worked like a champ, thanks a ton! :good:
Hi All,
About a week ago my M9 powered down while on charge and then wouldn't power on again. No response at all from the standard power button but only holding it for a few seconds at a time.
I knew the buttons to hold to enter bootloader and after several tries it powered on again.... It then ran for a couple of days with no issues.
Then a couple of days later had to power off the phone on a flight - same issue - wouldn't power on - dead.
It took several attempts to bring it back to life. I'm now in a position when every time I power off the phone it just doesn't want to come back on? Thought that it may have been a custom rom issue or a kernel issue - have tried changing both (painful experience by the way - having to wait for the phone to decide when its ready to wake up "when it feels like it after each new installation) but the problem is still there.
I have also found that entering bootloader using the power button and volume button isn't the only solution to "waking up" the phone. Just holding the power button for 10-60 seconds has the same effect - but it sometimes takes several attempts over several minutes - its very random.
Does anyone else have this recurring problem every time they power off? Does anyone on "stock" have the problem?
I'm starting to think that maybe its hardware rather than a software issue?
Try turning off the phone, plugging in the charger, and holding all three buttons for two minutes.
HTC has recommended this as a fix for battery issues like the slow charging bug. Apparently it clears all the battery settings and recalibrates it. The phone will reboot repeatedly while you're doing this, but that's normal. Keep holding the buttons.
I have seen HTC phones do this in the past when the battery system gets confused.

My M9 is not quite 6 months old - ALL stock. Went to bed last night , M9 quick charger plugged in with green light and phone power on - just in airplane mode. Woke up 4 hours later and found the phone dead.
I tried 1 button, 2 button, and 3 button holds for 5 minutes each, plugged in and not plugged in - still dead!
Any help would be appreciated.

Ah you cannot even get it charged anymore?
I know HTC phones had an issue that when they are completely drained, they seem to be dead, even not charging or anything. Yet if you keep them in the charger, eventually they would show as charging and being able to turn on again.

Leave it in connected to the stock charger overnight and see if that helps. If not, you might have a hardware fault and need to return it for warranty service.
I too thank you most profusely!!

Stock Robin won't turn on, what now?

Cross-posting this from r/NextbitRobin
So Tuesday night before bed I went to check my phone (which had been on the charger for the last couple hours and so was at >95%) and noticed the volume button was not responding. I figured something buggy was going on, sometimes I need to reboot my phone every couple of days to get it to work properly (especially if it had run down into low power mode before recharging), so after unplugging it from the charger, I held down the power button, selected reboot, and clicked okay. The phone then proceeded to shut down, but not start back up.
When I tried to start it up again by holding the power button, I got no response initially. Then I was able to get it to buzz/vibrate, but the screen never came on.
I tried holding down the Vol- button and the power button together for 20 seconds to force a reset, and it vibrates a couple of times, but nothing happens.
If I plug it into a charger, I don't see any LEDs illuminate, and it just vibrates approximately every 3 seconds (not continuously, it seems to have some semi-random pattern). If I unplug it, the vibrating stops, but I still can't get it to turn on. It does not seem to make a difference if I am using a wall charger or trying to charge it off my laptop.
I have not rooted the phone or installed any custom ROMS, and have had it since I bought it on Amazon in June of 2017.
Any ideas what might be the issue? Any tips for reviving my phone?
This doesn't seem to match anything I have been able to find with some basic google searching.
Edited to add that I also tried removing the sim card and starting it up without one, but that did not appear to make a difference.
Update: I left it plugged into a wall charger for about 18 hrs and when I came back there was no change in behavior.
This many sound repetitive but lets first get the obvious out of the way so that we are sure you tried the most basic things for sure.
Is there an issue with the cable not able to charge the device? Can you try changing the cable?
Power + volume down for 30 secs / 1 minute / few minutes. This usually helps, sometimes more than 30 seconds for some reason. Try doing it while plugged in.
When you connect to the laptop what happens? Does it power on for a minute or vibrate?
Do you have adb installed on your computer? does you device get detected on your laptop?

Tried charging it with both the OEM cable as well as an amazon basics USB-c cable (both of which had been used to charge the phone successfully in the 24 hrs before it went wonky), no noticeable difference in behavior.
Held the power + volume down buttons for 180 seconds, did not boot. Repeated this with it plugged in (wall charger) and it still did not boot.
When I connect it to my laptop, I get the same behavior of vibrating as when plugged into a wall charger, but it does not boot or power on, nor does the laptop detect the phone in any fashion. I do not have adb installed on my laptop.
Anything else I can try, or is the phone a write-off at this point?
First step to solving any device issue is to somehow boot it and get in any mode possible. Since you can't do that I can't think of any other way to get it working.
I'm having the same issue, phone is not giving me any signs of life...frustrated at the moment
It's a total long shot, but try carefully cleaning out your charge port with a needle or a small pin and a little bit of alcohol. I pulled quite a bit of pocket lint out of mine and it works fine now. It didn't look like it was that dirty, but I pulled out a large ball bearing sized amount.
Other than that the only other thing I can think of is that your battery might be shot. It might have been taking enough of a charge to try and turn on, but not enough to do so.
