How do you think this tablet would do at the beach/poolside? - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just wondering about the 10.5 out in the sun? Hopefully not completely washed out. Hope you guys that have it can inform me.

I used it on my patio, and aside from the reflection in direct sunlight (think mirror in your eyes), the brightest setting was very readable outside.

I avoid taking electronics to the beach. Invariably particles of fine sand make their way into the devices.

Nice
wow man, good accessory. thx
Good find Super, just ordered some so i will let you know.
Please do
They are good and do what they say, anti-reflective. But they do dull down the screen a bit, so you would need to set the screen brighter than what you normally do. Also they blur the screen just a tad bit...not too bad, but enough to notice. They feel sorta soft/grainy, not like your touching the screen. I personally don't like them because I don't use my phone in the sun that much to trade off screen smoothness/visibility for anti-reflection power. But if you spend a lot of the time outside when using your phone and you find the suns rays devastating then this would be a smart buy.

Hey thanks buddy for the review, i do use my phone out doors a lot and as you know it can be sometimes a pain to view the screen specially when sunny, if it helps alittle it will be worth a fiver.
Out thanks but will return to leave some.
I use my phone in the sun very rarely...but when I do it is a pain in the butt. All I see is a white light blinding my eyes. I just put my phone back in my pocket act like i accomplished reading my emails and head inside a building and finish my work. haha.
Just a update guy's, i received my Folix screen protector this morning and have to admit it is good, the best screen protector i have seen or used, it gives a matt finish to the screen which not only helps with reflection when outdoors but hides finger marks, it is about the same gauge as the original Sony one that was on my phone, the other thing it went on perfect with not one air bubble, well worth a fiver!

Be aware of screen defect!

So I got gs3 a week ago and loving it so far. But I started noticing the screen has some issues.
Everytime I am on blank screen with just the back light on, I notice multiple dark circles thru back light. They are about the size of peas and you can only see them in darker room. I am trying to take a picture but still not successful.. again you can not see them in normal light or when you are looking bright images. .you can only see them on blank screen with back light on. (Examples: when you start the phone and only Samsung logo during boot. Or when you go to seetings and choose lock screen, the blank area with back light on shows the defects. )
I hope you guys don't have that issue, because it does bother me when I am using phone at night..
I called tmo to replace it and hopefully new one doesn't have same problem.
Cheers,

Its the screen type most have it to a varying degree

You may want a different phone if it bugs you. Purchase a phone with a different style of screen or read the forums before you make a purchase.

Common on amoled screens.
Sent from my Galaxy S3 using neighbors wifi
A simple Google search would of net you the answer. Those are dead pixels almost all amoled screen have does, but if they are really really big you can definitely try to get a warranty. Only thing is your next phone will probably have it too either for better or worse. If it's not too bad I would stay with the phone, technically if you don't think about it you get past it not many times you would notice it anyway.

Screen Burning or Dead Pixels?
I think what you are referring to is screen burning. This case is very common among OLED displays, kind of how plasma TV's have burns on the screen. It's there but its not that bad since this type of technology gets it (for now....the tech is still way too new). However, it helps to not keep the same picture or whatever showing for long periods of time, as this can cause a burning outline of the picture. In this I mean, something that is displayed that doesn't change. Remember some screen may get more burned then others but it will still be there. For the reason of this burning, I'll let you search it up. If that doesn't answer your problem then let me know, but if it is dead pixels (which I dont think it is) then you might want to change it. However, your problem sounds like the common problem called burning.

it very well could be the burning... but I managed to take pics.. seems like problem is under the AMOLED.. because when I take a screenshot. it not there.. I am just assuming...

Its a common thing on all AMOLED phones. It happens during the printing process, nothing to lose sleep over.

This is very common in all amoled screens. Same was the case with my vibrant. Since these are only visible in a dark room with a black screen, its not that big of a problem, I imagine. It's not so much a defect as it is an aspect of the screen type. Think of it like this... if you purchase a Mac over a Windows computer, it will have aspects that you dislike that the other likely won't have have. But the same is true of the Windows device (although not likely ha)...if it is a deal breaker, avoid amoled in the future.
Have this also, even on Note 2. Especially, while watching Netflix or screen is dark
Seriously there was a long thread about this when the phone first released. Could we not resurrect this?

my bad.. would you mind pointing out the link for that thread? I went back multiple pages on index but unable to find.
You might want to exchange that. The definately isn't burning that I am talking about. So yes, go ahead and change that out. I don't have that on my phone so it looks like a defect. Those spots almost look like bloches of some sort and looks as if something had burned underneath. That or one guy said, dead pixels (which is a definate yes for exchange).
So go exchange the product and see how it goes for you.

Well we went through thisnwith the sgs2. People found that exchanges just resulted in more phones just like this. Therw was a whole about it there also. It is a defwct in manufacturing in most oled screens for these phones. People have reported it in their note 2s also.

[Q] Does your device creak?

I got my note 4 days ago. At first everything was ok, but yesterday I noticed my device is terribly creaking. Almost every time I touch the back it sounds like the plastic would break a little bit (Although I don't think it would actually break).
Do you have the same issues? Or should I sent it back and get a new one, since it's really annoying me...?

Mine creaks a little in the bottom right corner. Everything else is fine. I think it's the plastic back giving a bit. I had this on the Nexus 10 as well.
Creaking is for Hollween not for my Tablet!

Yes, When I held the tablet with my left hand to touch the screen with my right it creaked like a rock band with bad music! Geeish.....the silver chrome or whatever the material is wasn't tight and it just bend. I returned it right away. I really didn't want to return it. However, I paid full price and not second hand money so I expect the performance to be right, that means no noise. When listening to music or watching a movie it seems as if someone was moving around and that can be pretty annoying. I tried holding it different ways with no change. So back it went. Let Samsung sell. This I know imagine you trying to sell it to the next person, what do you think they might say and how much will the value go down?

Yes, As soon as I opened the package, I noticed the bottom right hand corner was creaking an popping. It is not like I was looking for it. That made me investigate if the rest of the trim was doing the same. If you put your mind into into it, you can get some creaking from other ends of the trim but nothing like the bottom right hand corner. Every time I pick it up, it is annoying me so much that I feel I should take it back. I am not sure the guys at PCWorld would accept this as a reason for full money back or replacement claim. I do like the tablet, but do not want a noisy plastic in my hands.
Is this enough of a reason to ask for a replacement?

Sadly I dont think it is (pure guess so dont take my word for it) BUT I can 100% say that your Tablet will have a little bit of lightbleed along the bottom and sides....this alone is a good enough reason for them to accept and exchange - Good luck.

Put screen britghness to 100% and open this http://www.net-tracker.net/android/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/black_bg_1024x768.png, make sure it covers the entire screen inc notifications part and then switch off your lights in your room and you will then see light bleed, Its nothing major and common on LCD'S but it is a valid reason for a return/exchange.
I had lightbleeding on my first note but I found it to be acceptable however on my 2nd tablet I found the bleeding to be excessive and off putting so I got a refund from John Lewis,
Anyways this thread should give you an idea too - best of luck :good: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2554094

If your one is not creaking then this definitely should be a rightful exchange claim for all those unfortunate to pick up badly put together tablets.
I am even considering getting my money back and going the Apple way. Excellent build quality, and I know that because I got some for the kids.
yeah maybe idk. Sammy is also known for build issues lately so you have to really inspect before you take home. The Note 3 home button is all wonky and wobbly on a lot of units.

Sorry for the question, but what is "idk" in your post?
Having a creaking case, would that get worse in terms of speading all around the tablet's trim?
Any experiences but no guesses please!

"IDK" means "I Dont Know".
I guess if the creaking was coming from say a loose glass to the digitizer i think it could be something that spreads. Since if the glass isn't glued down well enough i could see slight dust getting in there and causing more separation over time. I doubt this is the case as you'd see bubbling at the edges if that was happening.

Display burn in already?

Hello :good:
I have had my phone since release day, and I noticed in the sun I can see some lines in the screen almost looks like a burn image going vertically down. There are two large lines and a rectangle looking one in the middle. It's hard to tell from the pictures, but I can see it more in person and it bugs me
Does anyone else have this? Perhaps it's some type of shadow caused by the curved screen? I am going to open a warranty claim with T mobile, but I was just curious if I am the only one with this problem?
Thank you!

Yes I can see it too only in the sun on white background it looks like a shadow of something behind screen I read online that screen is very slim and it does bother me too this is the second thing first being a ripple in the glass top too bottom can only see it in the sun screen off no screen protector I guess the price of this phone is why these things bother me other than that this is the nicest phone I've owned and these are things I can live with as long as they don't get worse

It's not burn in. It's part of the construction of the phone, and only visible in direct sunlight where the light can penetrate the display to the point it's revelaing the structure underneath. Completely normal. No worries
The thing is, if you look closely, you see the graph of pixels now too, seems like it's getting worse.
Its a matter of fact that you spend this much money on a "flag ship device" with a great display in store, but when I go outside (where 90% of my workday resides) you see the issue. It's misleading the customer (Such a GREAT display....((INDOORS ONLY)) ) It's just principal.
If the replacement I get tomorrow has this issue as well (I am suspecting it will based on the responses)- I will call Samsung corporate and respectfully request a full refund as Tmobile wont take it back since it's beyond 30 days.
Edit: Thanks for everyones reply

I can respect your position, but I disgree that Samung is "misleading" the customer. It's been confirmed through 3rd party screen test companies that the Note 5 and the S6 Edge+ have the best screens in the industry. Just because you don't like how the screen looks in direct sunlight doesn't make it bad or false advertising.
Still the best screen around, everytime I'm out with people (which is a lot) my Edge+ blows away their phones, all of them.
Excuse me?

Really, A glass phone in direct sunlight? That's what a smartwatch is for. Do you walk down the street looking at you phone? Do you hold it up in direct sunlight? Do you understand the properties of glass? The screen is amazing. Most of the people I know that use this device do not expose it or any other phone to direct sunlight, there is even a warning in the manual about not doing so because it can seriously damage your screen. Dude, it's a glass phone. The sun is a very bright star and has a way of shining through glass. Do you find it odd that you are the only person reporting this as an issue? Go with an HTC or Iphone, they are built of metal and will not let the sun through, the drawback being that they will cut your reception slightly. This is the way it is, the phone is fine and the screen is good, but you can't please everyone.
well, anyways I got my replacement today and guess what? It doesn't have those blobs on it so big freggin deal guys. It was a one off. You guys take all this crap personally like you made the phones yourselves LOL

Dark stripe with low brightness

Hi,
I bought recently a new Samsung galaxy tab s4 and the first time I watched a movie laying on bed with the lights off (low screen brightness), I noticed a dark stripe on the screen...
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TqcpX6g0ciE
Well... Is this normal? I guess it's not. Should I return it?
Thanks!
I have this too on my Samsung Note 4. It is a common defect of AMOLED displays, where the temperature and luminance degrades the pixels over time, increasing the probability for burn-in.
You can try to find which app caused this, by matching up the dark area with the app contents. For me it was YouTube and 8 Ball Pool that I was using for long periods at full brightness --- when playing a fullscreen video or game, the screen will NOT turn off. I kept forgetting this, and went to the bathroom or kitchen leaving the screen on!
Did you buy it second hand, used? The previous owner or you may have likely used full brightness and showing a static image for long periods.
There is nothing you can do to fix it. The S4 is still a new flagship model so you may be able to get a replacement.
Well... I bought the tablet two months ago, brand new, and I have barely used it. Like... twice a week or so.
My sister has the same model, used it a lot more and it hasn't developed dark stripes.
I cannot find a match except, maybe, the Google search bar. I guess I will try to get it returned. I cannot accept this on a 500€ tablet. Should I know this before hand, I'd bought a Huawei tablet for half the price.
Or maybe I'm overreacting and I simply got a defective unit.

Thanks what was your brightness set at ? Man in the video link you posted the text at the bottom looked crazy bright ? On mine it looks fine please note i did move the image like you did my brightness is set at dead center on the second icon so about 25% or 30% ish (im guessing)
Also i set the brightness half way, and i do not get that black bar!
I had the same problem on the tab S3. Samsung text said it was a known issue, affecting about 30% of all screens. It is replaceable under warranty. Eventual getting through the first round of tech support, ask for support team to handle your issue. My tab S4 had the same issue, but it wasn't as noticeable. I accidentally folded into a fold-up couch and demolished it, whenever I got a replacement under AT&T insurance policy, the tablet I got had a perfect screen! I'm taking has best care of it as I possibly can, as it is literally the first perfect screen I've seen on the S Series tablets. It may be frustrating to deal with the 5 to 10 day turnaround time, but as an artist who actually works on Gray backgrounds quite often it was worth the effort.

Thank you for testing this on your tablet. Actually, the overall brightness was about 15-20%. But that was enough for a dark/dim room.

Ouch. I can feel the pain of the couch event.
Well, my tablet came today from the tech support... They wiped the memory and cleaned some greasy fingerprint marks.
But they did not solve the problem. I guess they even tried to find out what was wrong.
I'm starting to be unhappy with Samsung...

Oh, do you have any references for this?
Ouch. I can feel the pain of the couch event.

No direct reference as it was a tech I was speaking with on the phone. Just ask specifically to be forwarded to support team. Then you will only be speaking with one service rep, and they will be in direct contact with the tech that handles your tablet. They can even ensure it goes to the repair center closest to you.
Well... I'm feeling like this story needs an end.
I actually send the tablet to the repair center and they changed the screen. The lady at the store were I purchased the tablet told me that the problem was a loose flex cable inside the tablet, but... Who really knows? The repair sheet doesn't mention that.
Anyway, the tablet is better now, but not 100%... It still shows a slight darkening towards a corner of the screen, barely noticeable under normal circumstances but that does indeed shows with test images. The good thing is that this is not a dark band anymore.
Thanks to everyone that participated in this thread
