Issue with "Adaptive Display" mode and cable streaming app. - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I tried my cable tv streaming app and when it was in "Adaptive Display" mode it would not completely buffer and would just stutter. I was ready to take it back until I searched around and found this mode set so I changed it to "AMOLED Cinema" mode and that helped alot. Any found my similar issue?

As I said in a previous thread . Youtube and Netflix have been optimized for this device. So the picture is going to be amazing. It's other streaming and video services that may suffer. Such as my Xfinity Go App and Crackle. Anything black gets extreme Pixelation and ghosting. It's horrible

Stuttering has nothing to do with the display mode though...
I was streaming from my synology nas last night and it stuttered horribly. I have been travelling for about a month and streaming was fine with my previous device, but before assuming it was the tab style at fault, I did some investigating. It appears my neighbor above me in my complex got Internet while I was away and his router is on the same channel as mine (11). If I'm in the same room as the router speed tests are awewome, go 12 feet in any direction and his signal somehow causes speeds to crawl. I was using the cable company's router. So, I took out my old dlink router, set it up to be wireless n only greenfield 40, disable the wireless on the cable company's all in one unit and all is well again. The same file that stuttered in my room at 90 kbps, is now streaming fine and downloads at 40 mbps if I set it to download instead of streaming.
I say all that to say, sometimes the issue isn't as it appears.

I do however have an issue with the display. My issue is the color warmth. Human skin comes off way more orange than it should. Compared to my MacBook pro, LG TV and even my Note 3 this presents a huge problem especially when viewing photographs. Editing photos is an even bigger task as you will over compensate for the display's skewing of the colors. I am anxiously awaiting root so I can adjust the tint myself.

First full days use - A novices experience

I am new to android and it took a while to adapt to this phone coming from Symbian. couple of things I noted as a new user.
I think its essential to install the widget for turning on and off the mobile internet. This widget can be added as a little switch icon and is found in widgets/settings/mobile internet switch.
Leave it switched off when not using the internet or net services. When you want to check your facebook or email or surf, just flick it on, and away you go. Will save a lot of battery rather than leaving it on all the time.
I have my friend stream and news feeds and weather etc on manual update. So I just click to update them myself when I want to see whats new. It won't suit everyone to do it this way, but you'll be lucky to get 24hours from the battery with always on mobile internet connection and auto-updating for your 'live' pages.
Also set your wifi to sleep after 15minutes of phone inactivity. This can be set in settings/network and wifi/wifi settings/menu key - advanced settings.
btw, wifi is much more battery friendly than mobile internet. (based on others opinion too).
some cool apps are barcode reader & google skymaps.
Oh yeah, maybe install the android power widget into the bottom of one of your windows. It's handy for quickly switching between screen brightness modes and switching on or off services like wifi, gps, bluetooth, or synching etc. The screen obviously looks beautiful in full brightness, but its not always required if just surfing in a dark room etc.
playback of H.264 video. I tried a few h.264 mp4 files and could not get them to play. I ended up installing an evaluation of Any DVD converter professional 4.0.5. and that did the job. you can choose the Nexus One 800x480 profile. You can also crop a wide screen video to chop off the sides and avoid the letterbox black bars. great program and worth trying the evaluation one anyway. will be handy for converting TV shows etc.
Well, thats about it after 24hours. I've also heard the battery life will improve after 4 or 5 full discharge/charge cycles.

[Q] Extremely high ping/latency issues

Whenever the the wife uses the Kindle HD 8.9 over wifi, it crushes anything i may be doing that is latency sensitive (i.e. MMO, MOBA, FPS, etc) with well over 1s pings, sometimes reaching 1500ms. Other web browsing will also go very slowly while this happens. We have 7Mb/s DSL which isnt amazing but does the job considering we're in Alaska
This usually only happens in bursts then settles and fires up again.
Done the usuals, set to low quality with QoS router setups. Ive only tested with Hulu and Netflix.
Nothing seems to stop this tablet from manhandling our connection.
None of our other android devices or the Wii U do this using the same services and apps. I own a SGS3 running latest slimrom, the wifes is a stock SGS2.
The kindle is rooted but remains stock, rooted for the play store and the apps i own there.
Any clue what is happening? Others experience this issue?
I also prefer not to use the custom rom here as we use the HDMI out. (i guess audio isnt working yet)

Turn off bluetooth and only use Wi-Fi? Am I being daft?

I may be being daft here but I can't find a way to turn the bluetooth off and only be connected to the phone via Wi-Fi...
Is that actually possible? Or does being connected by Wi-Fi automatically disable the bluetooth anyway?
Lol, try airplane mode and then enable wifi.
Think you will come back from that soon enough ,expect battery not lastig very long.
Turn bt off on your phone. The watch will continue to search for a bt connection, but will stay on wifi. Make sure cloud sync is turned on in the phone app, of course.
Technically, you can put the watch in airplane mode and then activate wifi in the menu, but it will have reduced ability. IIRC you may still get notifications, but won't be able to reply.

I've tried cloud sync and walked away from phone (far enough), battery didn't like it at all... Also going for a exercise in that mode, without phone , impacted hard on my watch's energy
Wifi is off on my watch since then
Cheers for the replies guys, much appreciated. Seems I shouldn probably just leave things be, it was only a curiosity thing to be honest. Mainly as my phone and watch are both connected to works Wi-Fi I thought it seemed off to leave the BT on.

pretty much that, Wifi is not low energy compatible like BT4.0, in the end BT4.0 is optimal (near 0 energy consumption Wifi is only starting to show up tho but no device use it now )
what's the advantage you see with Wifi instead of BT? i wonder because i see none.

funny because peoples in that thread claim Wifi use less battery than BT4.0, that's just so weird because it's wrong ... i suspect a Placebo effect.
"Power Consumption: A General Picture
Bluetooth devices typically have low power consumption while Wi-Fi uses much more electrical power. In part, this is due to the broadcast range of the two technologies. Both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi devices announce themselves by emitting a signal with a frequency of 2.4 gigahertz. Bluetooth devices emit a signal that travels for about 30 feet, while Wi-Fi signals travel about ten times as far. Wi-Fi devices need more power to generate a stronger signal.
Power Consumption: Details
Rahul Balani of the Electrical Engineering Department at the University of California, Los Angeles, has run extensive tests to measure the power consumption of Bluetooth versus Wi-Fi. His results indicate that in some cases, Bluetooth uses less than 3 percent of the power required by Wi-Fi for the same tasks. For example, sending data at the rate of 75 bytes per second over Wi-Fi requires approximately 80 milliwatts of electrical power. Sending data at the same rate over Bluetooth consumes only 2 milliwatts. "
for basis
and for Wifi direct
"Power Consumption
Since both specifications are touted as “low energy” and expected to help fuel innovation in the always on society we live in, power consumption is important. I’d argue that it could be the most important aspect which determines the winner. Until current mobile battery technology improves, we can’t be expected to utilize anything that significantly depletes the life of a battery.
Wi-Fi Direct is said to extend battery life by anywhere from 15 to 40 percent depending on factors such as file size, Wi-Fi protocol, range and device type.
Bluetooth 4.0 has the more impressive of the two technologies as Bluetooth Low Energy (Bluetooth LE) is said to allow a battery to run for a year or more before it’s fully depleted. That said, additional factors within your device will contribute to battery drain, so this may not be fully accurate, but it’s impressive nonetheless.
A number of cool technologies currently make use of Bluetooth LE. One of these is TrackR, which is a small coin-sized device that attaches to just about anything and lets you track the item using TrackR’s Distance Indicator in order to find it. Lost keys, missing sunglasses, or that hard-to-find wallet or purse might just be a thing of the past.
Other technologies, like Knock, aim to eliminate the need for passwords by allowing you to unlock your devices only when your mobile phone is nearby. Once installed, the iOS app allows Mac users to tap twice in order to log in to securely log in to a password-protected computer.
Winner: Bluetooth 4.0"
as a example, my SW50 last 2-3 days (more often 2d than 3) with my use (notification, calc, schedule, and some MyRoll pics showoff for fun ) i use Minimal&Elegant watchface (highly customizable and customized), while my Wiko Highway Star 4G last 3 to 4 days permanently hooked on BT with the watch (depending the use i get 1-2 day sometime but 4 was my maximum)

My observation was objective, not subjective. It was recording battery levels every half hour over several hours with the same number of notifications, and repeating with wifi.
You are more than welcome to post your numbers.
Well with the same usage, it's not possible that a tech that need 4 time more power use less power, it's illogical unless the link is weak and less efficient.
And on a phone basis I already posted my battery life of both device 2-3 days and 3-4 days with Bluetooth on.
If I use Wi-Fi my phone barely last a day.

Ok, thank you.
working
how do we know if this is working as I seem to have lost connections even with wifi connected!
hmmmm no response!!!
well wifi things had never worked for me as soon as bluetooth is dropped I loose connection.... so any ideas why?

Question Optimize Wi-Fi to data transition

Does anyone know if the pixel has and equivalent to Apple's "Wi-Fi Assist" or Samsung's "Adaptive Wi-Fi"? I have the ASUS ROG AX11000 router and it's a beast. Now the problem is that it takes too long and too much distance to transition from Wi-Fi to Data on my Pixel 6P.
For example I'm in my car in the driveway about 150 feet from my router and the signal is too weak to pull data but I'm still connected to my Wi-Fi. Or I walk out of the house with my dog while watching a YT video and it just goes idle for a long time until I close and re-open YT.
My iPhone 13P handles it better as it'll buffer but restart on its own, My S21u will transition from Wi-Fi to data with no interruption 3x out of 5.
If there isn't a similar functionality in the Pixel is there an app that can achieve those results and make for a smooth Wi-Fi to data transition?
Thanks in advance.

Question YouTube lags

Global OP11, the latest OOS. YouTube video lagging during playback every few seconds – a little freeze then continues playing. Not happening to all videos but to many of them. Clearing the all data helps just temporarily, lags come back very soon.
Any idea how to fix this? It's so annoying.
Yep, that depends on OnePlus that block the FPS to 60 on some apps and even the clock speed
found out that lagging happens only when connected to wifi. so not sure if it's related to the 60 fps limit.
Bad wifi or bad internet

Maybe the op11 have probs with your wifi 2.4ghz or 5ghz wifi ?
Youtube has geo bandwidth allocation and can cut down streaming speeds almost to 56k modem performance.
Either they are testing or intentionally slowing down downstream to users in your area.
No issues with YT app for me, I was traveling entire week by car with YouTube streaming constantly videos without any issues.
I have this exact issue for a while. Only on wifi, I'm using revanced, and my wifi is very stable at 600 up and down. When toggling off wifi, YouTube says "back online" it is more of just a stutter every few seconds, but it's noticable and again only on wifi.

I had the same video lag issue in my revanced YouTube. It got fixed after I enabled Spoof App Signature.
Bug on youtube (looks familar after 8 min yt crashes on my j120f)
I can confirm this happens on my end as well. Super odd. Also noticed the app itself kinda goes into a very brief unresponsive state. I'll try scrolling through comments and it'll delay a second or so every so often. Other times, works totally fine. Using WiFi 100 percent of the time, so if it is anything with WiFi, not sure why it would only be periodic and not constant? I use the same wifi and it's been reliable on times I've noticed this behavior.
I may install a logcat/dmesg app and see if I can pinpoint where the issue is occurring. Anyone happen to grab a log I could take a peek at since it only happens on a rare basis on mine.
The condition the lag will happen on my side.
Is when playing a video/livestream in minimized mode (the video still playing at the bottom)
Then when scrolling through video catalogue it will lag.
Also when scrolling through comments it will lag.
Ok, I just tried what you all experience and everything is working fine. tested on my 5Ghz wifi at home, 5 and 2.4Ghz wifi in the office, different hours, multiple testing sessions.
No lags besides atrocious 60fps scrolling.
Playing video and then scrolling through comments, everything works fine, another batch of comments is loaded in very fast.
Minimised video and browsing through Home tab, Subscriptions or Library - everything is working fine on wifi.
I have Asus RT-68U at home and typical professional IT hardware switches, access points for networking at the office.
Since day one and 60fps there was no issue with YT app for me and i use it daily for videos, long review or video podcasts during my frequent traveling.

My issue is when simply watching videos in Fullscreen and on wifi, but only every now and then. Either way, if you use revanced and use microg version, the app is not 60fps limited. (You may not want to for battery, but it's worth it for me.)
I use stock YT app, don't need anything else. I have YT premium subscription.
No problems with fullscreen videos on wifi.
I experience this as well on my stock US variant
