[Q] T310 Unable to run APK after OTA 4.4.2 - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Title says it really. No problem rooting using One Click CF Autoroot and Heimdall-frontend and planned to install Xposedframework. Got the usual warning screen with the option to cancel or continue - but only the cancel button works. Continue is dead. Tried another couple of.apk 's with the same result. Any ideas anyone - or am I heading for CM11 (which runs fine on my S1 and S3 - so I'm not sure I need to ask)

Sorted. Turns out it was a night filter I was using. Flashed CM 11 anyway and should probably have done it earlier. Samsungs version was pretty. horrible

[Q] Odin Alternative: Heimdall

hey guys/gals, I was wondering if anyone in the Note 3 world has used Heimdall (open source alternative to Odin) to sucessfully root their device. The reason I ask because I do not have access to a Windows machine and was wondering if this tool will work. I wanted to know before hand before I have to create a Windows environment. Thanks guys.
It's my understanding that it needs to be updated to work with the note3. Until that's been done it won't work and I don't know how soon that will be as most now use Odin.

Actually this isn't strictly true.
I think technically Heimdall does't support the Note 3, however I and at least one other person on the forums have used it successfully under Mac OS. In my case, something went wrong in Odin while I was applying RDLV to my device and I ended up with a partial flash. After trying a bunch of troubleshooting with Odin to no avail, I decided to give Heimdall a shot. Fired it up through the GUI, hit "read PIT", and got a reasonable partition map on screen. A bit of experimentation later, I had my phone back up and rooted!
One thing I found, which may have been an issue with the partial flash but may not have, is that the "resume" mode didn't seem to work completely. At least most of the time, any command that wasn't the first one after a fresh boot into download mode would fail. I haven't yet used it since then, so I don't know if this is still an issue with a completely consistent system on the phone. To be safe, I recommend rebooting into download mode before each Heimdall command - that means boot into download -> download PIT into file -> shut down (hold power button for ~10s) and boot back into download -> flash (or whatever).
[Having just started Heimdall to check version, it's slightly possible that I didn't have "resume mode" checked under the "advanced" menu]
This was done using Heimdall 1.40, which was current release as of a month or so ago.
Hope this helps! Good luck with Heimdall - in my experience, it's much more functional / stable than Odin!

How to use kies

Can someone please explain the step by step process using kies to update the note 10.1 2014 edition. I keep trying to update using ota but keep getting the message that it's exceeded the maximum amount of updates. I've since installed kies in my PC But can't figure out what the next step is. Kies is reading my device but no update is taking place. I'm sure I'm missing something. Any help would be as always greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Sal

Well, once you connect your device to your PC and run Kies 3 you should get a prompt that there is an update available. After that just follow the instructions, which are pretty much clicking Ok and I Agree. It is weird that you are not getting the prompt. Are you in the USA? Are you rooted? If you aren't having luck with Kies 3 or OTA updates, then you could try downloading the FW from one of the link in this forum and flashing it through ODIN.
Same thing for me, I get the option to accept terms, then it downloads firmware upgrade components then nothing. I've let it sit for awhile and still nothing. I don't have do anything other than connect it right? I mean I am typing this while it is sitting there connected and nothing.

I'm not rooted. I'm getting no prompt. I'm in the US in new york. Guess I'll just have to wait for the ota to hit my device.

my brand new, fresh out of the box note tells me over, and over, and over, and over again to reinstall the usb drivers.
I can access the files on the device. just not update.
I get the same "exceeded maximum number of updates..." message on the device.
uninstalled drivers, reinstalled drivers. . .
not a good start. . .
whats the maximum updates business?
samsung probably limit number of upgrades per days.
you should try to download image from mirors and use odin to flash it.
I do it yesterday (I'm not from USA) and my tablet is now running KK.
no wipe, all app working after flash, nothing to reconfigure.
just a little issue with sdcard write access (only myfile can access on it with RW, no other apps).
Just got the ota now. The file is huge.

Do you now if it's avaliable in the UK as of yet?
Not yet in Europe but you can use usa version
Update: got the update OTA.
Kies was not working before the update, wifi or usb.
I updated Kies while trying to get it to work.
Once I took the update on tablet OTA Kies worked via USB, havent tried wifi.
Have never used it before so I think I need to read some tutorials on how-to "do stuff" in kies.

replying to my own thread here and my thoughts, was initially kind of hesitant to softbrickby trying to root my new well refurbished tab pro 12.2, as mentioned in earlier post unknowingly installed updates and now my device was saying firmware version as KOT49H.T900UEUANI1 and this was released by samsung on 9/11/2014, got my act together with some courage and downloaded cf autoroot package and odin 3.09( in odin 3.09 one has to press AP to flash .md5 files as there is no pda button), booted my tab into download mode and it showed knox active and not rooted or something like that, followed procedure and flashed the file and tab rebooted and showed blank white screen and my heart stopped for a second as i did not know if something has f'd up but then cf autoroot started(looks like a command prompt window in windows) and it did its thing and tab booted again and i checked supersu and it was there and checked to see if its up to date and it was and when i opened supersu it said knox detected and to disable it and pushed YES and it disabled know and i took a big deep breath and rebooted back to download mode to check and it said recovery is custom and knox rooted once and booted back and all is well, i have used these methods in the past for my galaxy s2 and lg g2 so i am aware of what needs to be done if something went wrong and gathered everything to fix, now i am ready to do further mods to my sweet galaxy tab pro, take risk to do it for yourself. happy rooting. make sure to gather all needed files before so that you can fix if something f's up.

Lollipop root problem

LG 10.1 wireless only. I upgraded to Lollipop and I am trying to root with the one click script I get a screen that says download mode I start the script my tablet switches to a screen that says updating firmware and that is where it sits. What am I doing wrong? I installed the drivers and Windows can see the tablet when it is on.
I tried many methods to root Lollipop stock on my G Pad 7, but this one is the only that worked for me. It requires to do steps manually, but it works! I was in your same situation, hope it helps..

[ zer0lab.dev ~ Lollipop stock on LG G2 ~ xda free ]
Thanks I'll try that in the next day or two.

Try with the version 1.3 LG one click root
I have always had to do steps manually. The auto-rooter app only worked once for me across all my devices. It seems to not always work reliably, typically requiring 3 or more attempts before the script actually takes off and roots the device.

Mine rooted first try with kingroot on lollipop , but use at least version 4.1 and 4.5 update from kingroot allowed me to use supersume to switch for upersu with successful binary update... For some reason I am NOT seeing anyone else anywhere mentioning have done this method like me so I'm curious why more people haven't figured that one out lol or I'm just missing a bunch of post somewhere

There are a few different posts around regarding using Kingroot for the G Pad. I had a significant delay in root appearing/working initially then getting king off of the pad. But recently updated everything, tried again and didn't have as many problems.
Yeah it was not a lot of issues to kingroot and switch to supersu, the problem now is I rebooted one day all the sudden and it is stuck in a boot loop I cannot get out of or find clear instructions on how to get out of. I can get to the Verizon logo, or recovery where any option send me to the fast boot screen and it will send me to a blank screen. I don't have a computer and don't really know what to do with it. The crazy thing is I didn't do anything at all that would have cost that it just did it, unfortunately it's just one of the risk of rooting

Screen not working after rooting, phone doesn't work.

Hi All
I bought my new Sprint GS6 (SM-G920P, 5.1.1) and decided to root it to enable tethering. I used Odin3 (3.10.6) and tried to flash it with a firmware I found in one of those “how to root SM-G920P”. I am not sure now if it was the correct tar file but it was G920PVPU1AOCF. So I did, Odin passed!, the phone rebooted, got the message “…seandroid enforcing…” which is normal I believe, and when it started up, the screen did not work! (I see my home screen but it’s not swiping and cant do anything). The Volume, power, home, menu and back buttons work, but the touch screen doesn’t. Also now it does not read the internet and phone signal. Tried to flash it with one of the latest stock firmware G920PVPU2BOF7, and Odin Fails! I tried factory reset, it didn’t work. I appreciate any help with this!
Try this firmware, which is the latest: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24343351889231947
Use an MD5 checker to ensure that your download was complete. I use WinMD5 from here: http://www.winmd5.com/
I that works for you, PM me and I'll help you get rooted and set up.
Wow thanks man! It worked. Now for the rooting process... which method do u recommend for a simple root. Not interested in custom rom yet.
