[Q] Internet Connection not starting up! - Desire 816 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey I'm not able to start the Internet Connection on my Htc Desire 816 dual sim! When I switch on the Data Connection the internet wont start! Please help!

same issue on dual sim
I actually have the same issue on my dual sim phone. I believe its to do with the frequencies but I am trying to chase other avenues. Any help would be much appricated.

Would be good if you let the xda community know which rom version are you using and on which network you are trying to use as no one have reported this issue so far.

I am with Three Ireland and the phone I have purchased is a Dual Sim Desire 816 which I believe has an Asian ROM.
It has been rooted and running in English prior to me purchasing it.
I believe it is using CDMA technology which we don't use here in IRELAND.

The reason could be things that may have resulted rooting that might be affecting the internet connection. How about hard reseting from the hboot ? To do that reboot to bootloader from the Advanced power menu or whatever you have, or simply switch off the phone and press the volume down and power button at the same time fore few seconds. This will take you to bootloader screen that has 3 android images at the bottom. Navigate to the factory reset there and see if that makes any difference. Good luck.
Hi thanks button if it helped.
The other possible reason I could think of for no internet is could be due to the network frequencies that is not matching with the mobile. ALthough big companies like HTC, Samsung, Nokia covers most of the available frequencies but there is a possibility that few countires might use higher or lower frequenceis than the normal ones and that could be a reason.

For your internet issue, certainly a hard reset could work as it is definetly not the network issue. The other possibility could be the sim problem. If you cut the big sim to fit into your desire 816, there is a possibility that a part of the sim must have been cut that may be vital for network. If you have used the new sim that come in that micro size, then probably checking swapping the sim with the new one and trying may work. But before the try to hard rest via bootloader and check.
Hit thanks if any of the solutions worked as others would know and follow from your experience.

Dual sim adapter in a Desire ?

Anyone tried one of the myriad of Dual SIM adapters in a Desire yet ?
From what i've seen there is one which you cut your SIM and put 2 in a holder which should fit into the standard SIM slot, but i'd rather not cut my SIM. The second type of dual SIM holder is one which the second SIM is typically folded over the battery with a ribbon cableSP2,,{/w].
So has anyone tried the second type please and does the battery cover fit ok after the adapter is inserted ?
(yes i know two SIM's cannot be active at the same time, but i need the switchable feature without popping out the battery every time i travel out of country for work where the roaming charges are ridiculous)
I tried both with my touch hd. The battery was heavily affected even if manufacterer said it wouldn't.
Now i just carry two phones

I tried the "MagicSIM 2008 20th edition" from deal extreme, it only worked when the Desire was locked to GSM mode only.
3G mode didn't work in a Nokia handset either, so I think the switcher was to blame rather than the Desire causing issues.

I have Simore Dual Sim in my Desire, but he only see one sim card. So i cannot recomend it.
any updates?
I use Simore Platinum, work well. Some time lost a 2 SIM, I have to remove the adapter and check the SIM is a good position.

How does it work with data communication?
I mean if you have SIM1 with one operator and specific APN, when you change to SIM2 with different APN how does that work??
Other question, how do you change SIM, I guess via Simore software. Is it good?, is it fast in change from one active SIM1 to activate other SIM2?
Sorry but I never had dual sim adapter (only dual sim dual standby phones) in a smartphone.

Number Hide and Number Edit.
I ended up getting the 26th cutting for my HTC desire off ebay. If you email the guy who's selling the no-cut version (he's the cheapest i could find) he also sells the cutting version which works with the HTC Desire. I've had it working for a few days now.....running smoothly! I'll report back in a week or so and let u all know if its still running nice.
Not sure what the No.Hide and No.Edit functions do....i might email the guy i bought it off and ask

This is still working great. For anyone who's interested I've also had it working in my Girlfriends HTC Wildfire.

[Q] Making European HTC Desire HD work with AT&T GoPhone

Hi all,
I am not sure what subforum to post it so forgive me if I've chosen wrong...
I have an unlocked HTC Desire HD bought in Europe (Poland in particular). I am currently in US for some time and to my surprise it does not work with AT&T GoPhone SimCard I hoped to use it with. The phone says "no simcard"...
Does anybody here knows what's the reason? Is there a way to correct it (load a different ROM onto the device?)? Or - if it's impossible to fix with AT&T - what are my options for finding a prepaid (I won't be here for a year to justify signing on for a full year contract) card that will work with this phone and have some decent data plan?
Poland uses GSM network and usually in US they use CDMA so it is not possible to use your DHD in US if the carrier uses other network than GSM because the 2 radios are completely different. Not sure if this can be changed but doubt it.

I don't think this is a case.... This phone is AFAIK the same phone in technical terms as HTC Inspire being sold in US. This is a quad-band and is working in US with Polish sim-card in roaming mode (with horrendous prices of course). So this is something with a sim-card and/or radio-software compatibility. I would push for the first one as the phone is saying "no sim-card" signalling problems with recognizing it.
Hey
i think your problem lies in the frequencies used by european phones, arent the same as in us... on my old HD2 you could change the freq, but afaik its not possible with android phones... check this chart http://www.worldtimezone.com/gsm.html
hope u solve the prob.

Once again - I am afraid it's not that simple...
Once again - I am afraid it's not that simple... I believe the incompatibility is somewhere at the either sim card (being rigged in some special way by ATT) or radio software. The HTC Desire HD is a quad-band phone accodring to it's specs (I've checked at the GSMArena . COM). I've seen reports on the internet that people managed to run GoPhone simcards on unlocked HTC android-based phones. I just kind find any information about what might be wrong (incompatible) with my handset
Thank you for your replies anyway - hope someone will have other ideas what to do, otherwise I am stuck with $20 "phone" I got with my gophone card which is making me upset while having a proper phone not working...
RESOLVED!
I managed to google out the information that ATT is somehow locking the GoPhone simcard to the phone it was bundled with. I had to call Customer Support to get it unlocked which they did. Now my Desire HD is properly working with data plan accessible
Thanks for anybody who was trying to help me with this.
Regards!
HTC European Phone on AT&T
Hi There,
Does anybody know the access point configurations for an HTC Legend (or similar european HTC device) to access data on GoPhone on AT&T?

T-Mobile HTC G2 "Unable to connect to network"

EDIT: Just got off the phone with T-Mobile Tech Support, they tell me theres nothing more beyond a Factory Reset that could help the issue, and seeing as I've already done a factory reset a few times to no avail, I should look into getting my money back for this device.
Okay, so I purchased an HTC G2 from ebay. I know this was my first error in judgement, but I have a limited budget so i took what i could get.
Anyways, I currently have T-mobile on my Unlocked Iphone 3GS, but I've grown tired of Jailbreak problems and using 2G data speed.. So i Found this phone on Ebay, and purchased. when I got it, I quickly popped in my already active SIM card and got NO SERVICE, looked around on the phone and found the Network Settings, went to 'Network Operators' and searched for a network. T-Mobile and AT&T shows, but does not connect to either. when I inserted another T-Mobile SIM card, the same error shows. ( thought maybe my SIM was too old to receive 4g or some BS like that.. lol)
anyways, I dont need to Unlock my phone, I dont plan on using it on any other provider or in any other country. All i want is for it to work with T-Mobile, in america. is there anything I can do? or should I just send it back to the Ebay seller.
any information needed, let me know and I can get for you.. its running:
Android 2.3.4.
Baseband: 12.62.60.27U_26.13.04.19_M
Kernel: 2.6.35.10-g96de068
[email protected] #1
2.16.531.5 CL159515 release-keys
Is try a factory reset. Re insert sim. If still doesn't work call t mobile support. If still no go file an eBay complaint and send back broken phone for a refund.
Sent from my HTC G2 using xda premium
Okay, thanks I'll try that right now.
Also, do you think T-Mobile will offer support to me, although i did not purchase the phone directly from them? They got testy with me a while back when I was having issues with the Dash.
Okay, so I just tried both Soft and Hard factory reset and neither worked. re-inserted SIM and still get either "this SIM is unsupported" or "Unable to connect to this network"
I also get an Alert on the Drop-down menu that shows " the network (T-Mobile) is Unavailable.

Thanked you instead of quoting! Oh well, this was useful advice actually.
He is right - I had to get a new sim card when I got my g2 in order for it to function as a phone!
Oh, see then I suppose I wasnt wrong in thinking that then. so, If I go to a T-mobile and just get a newer SIM card, all should be well?

yes its free just tell them the sim is malfunctioning
Thanks, but after talking with T-Mobile tech support, we've found that my sim is up-to-date enough to receive 4g, and if its working in another phone then thats not the issue. it appears that the phone itself is malfunctioning in some way that prevents it from receiving any network. I've contacted the Seller and she's agreed to a refund. this is a real disappointment but its the only option left for me.
Unless anyone knows how to fix the problem of the G2 not accepting any network. After some research I've found this to be a common problem after an attempted Unlock of the device that went wrong. but, I've found no clear solution to it. Just alot of people complaining about it. I didnt attempt any unlock of this device, nor did I buy an Unlocked device purposefully.
the sad part is, I've only had the phone for two days, with NO SERVICE and i still love the device. IF i could find a more trustworthy dealer, without spending close to $100 more than I already spent, I'd love to use it.

[Q] A question about the M8 Dual SIM

Hey there
I am currently a M7 user but a couple of days ago my phone unforuntately fell flat on its face and the screen got cracked even though I've been taking excellent care of it for over a year and a half now. I am thinking of upgrading to the M8. I currently use two phones, the HTC One and a BlackBerry 9900 which I don't want to use anymore, so I am thinking of the M8 Dual-SIM, but I have a couple of questions:
1) Is there ANY difference between the Dual-SIM and regular M8 besides the extra SIM slot?
2) How does it actually work? Do you receive calls from both and do you choose which one to dial from as you dial a number?
3) I have two network operators, Vodafone and Mobinil. I use Vodafone for Mobile Data and calls, while I use Mobinil for ONLY calls, so will I be able to choose which SIM to use Data from and such?
4) I read that the second SIM is 2G only, meaning its internet is useless and would only be good for making phone calls, so I assume this is where I put the Mobinil one while I put the Vodafone SIM in the #1 slot and it would activate Mobile Data (HSPA because we do not have LTE in Egypt) and work efficiently?
5) Do I receive calls directly from SIM 2 or does it divert calls from 2 to 1?
6) Did anyone ever have problems with Dual-SIM? Like one of the two slots failing or something? I have never had a Dual-SIM phone so this will be a first for me.
Thank you so much.
1. No physical differences. The sim tray is same size on regular M8 as it is on DS version. The DS sim tray just accommodates two nano sims. All accessories meant for the regular model fits the dual simply version. Hardware is obviously somewhat different, mainly the DS version has the second radio hw. Software wise there are differencies regarding the DS capabilities. Also the DS version does not receive so many software updates as the regular. (also there are currently no mod roms for DS)
2. Yes and yes. When you dial a number, you have two dial buttons, one for each sim. Same for text messages.
3, 4. Yes you just insert the Vodafone sim to #1 slot and Mobinil to #2.
5. You receive them directly. While on call with other sim, it is possible to divert calls from other sim to the one that is on the call, so the line is busy or the caller is on hold if you have the feature.
6. This is my second DS phone. Never had any big problems with the feature.
Hit thanks if I've helped.
You've been a great help, thank you so much. I had no idea that the software is different and that's a problem for me, because I am a fan of modded ROMs (ViperOne, Android Revolution HD, InsertCoin, etc.) and so that's a breaking point for me. I already ordered the DS version but I'll see if I can switch it to the regular one. You're sure about the modded ROMs thing right?

That is the current situation, maybe it will be supported in the future.
Been waiting for ages for the last software upgrade 2.22..... for the dual SIM model.
Almost all the HTC one m8 variants were upgraded several times except the DS. Come on HTC!
Anyone managed to root properly without any problems?
I saw a roadmap here for regular & DS version software updates. DS would not receive 4.4.3, only 4.4.4 and probably later than other variants. I'll post it here if I find it.
So i guess we'll be waiting for a very long time.
http://pocketnow.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/htc-update-updates-roadmap.jpg here it is, though it seems outdated. 4.4.4 probably doesn't come out in August even for the regular version.
I went for the regular version and saved myself the pain.

HTC Desire 526 Verizon

I bought an HTC Desire 526 from Verizon to use in the USA. Can I use this phone in Canada with Koodo instead? Is it only locked on the CDMA portion to Verizon or do I need to unlock it to work in Canada on a different carrier?
Usually 4G LTE verizon phones are already sim unlocked, just need to change the settings from CDMA to GSM.
Try to change the sim card and check if it got connected to your network.

Thanks, I did that and the SIM card with Fido worked for talk/text, but I couldn't get the data to work. Any thoughts?
For Data add your providers APN on network settings =)
So how is the phones performance? Is the snapdragon 210 good enough to make use of the 1.5gb of ram and multitask?
Antutu came out as 18757.
Could you give a real world impression? These phones can get whatever score on a benchmark and then still fail to perform like the S6 due to whatever multitasking/ram issue it had or might still have.
Sure thing, just need to get me one nano sim first.
finally found a real review that provided a good look into many aspects of the phone
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6d7A5TXZEE
the 210 doesn't seem that much different from the 410 (really shouldn't be since I believe its only 100mhz difference between the two?) although it does look like I might need to spend some more for something faster.

Ended up just paying extra for a Moto E (currently $100 on amazon, even cheaper on ebay) and called it a day since I need root access. Might be worth it now that best buy jacked the price back to $90, leaving walmart as the cheapest option at $80.

That's strange, I did it myself and it worked no problems, just have to skip the whole initial setup from verizon/htc, keep hitting skip or omit until you're on the home screen.
Also spent a hard time getting a micro sim cut to nano sim to recognize it, if you can, get an original nano size sim.
it detects my sim alright and i can even see the sim services in the home menu but no network coverage
