Mini MicroSD Card Reader for Android by Meenova (Expandable Storage for your N5) - Nexus 5 Accessories

Hey guys, so I thought I might write my opinion on this awesome piece of technology that is called Mini MicroSD Card Reader for Android.
First, for those of you who are not familiar with it:
This thing allows you to have expandble storage for you Nexus (or almost any other Android phone).
I bought it because I like installing a lot of ROMs, watching a lot of movies, etc. So all I have to do is to hook the Micro SDcard reader into my Nexus 5 and just like that, all of my data is there.
This is the link to their website: http://www.meenova.com/st/p/m3r.html
It even comes with a little keychain holder. It so small and compact that you wouldn't even regret spending 12$ on it. And you can even pick a color.
Note: For this to work, you need to install a free app from the Play Store called "StickMount". It's made by Chainfire, and it's free, although you can purchase it to support him.
I attached some photos down below and I also urge you to watch some videos about how simple it is.
Continue watching other videos about this, just so that you would be sure that you want it: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=mini+micro+sd+card+reader+meenova
I bought it and Im very happy with it. It works perfectly.

I have and it works normally.

There's Already a thread on this. You could've just posted your thought on it in that thread

Works like a champ!

Wish they would have put some more thought/design into the USB adapter.
Otherwise, this looks like a great item. On the fence about getting one.

Breakdown of the reader
I used it for several months with no problem at all.
Exfat and NTFS worked with card to 64gb in FAT32...
Recently, it is not any more recognized on telephone or computer.
Tested with various cards : 4gb, 8gb, 32gb and 64gb.
Under different format.
Anybody had this problem?
Thank you

I had the same problem. It was dead. They replaced it for free...all they required were a few pictures of the meenova not functioning.

Do we require root access to use this on our Nexus 5 ?

Not if you use Nexus Media Importer. For Stickmount, the answer is yes.

Great AFTER-SALES SERVICE

Just ordered mine today!

me 2 :]

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free...-Reader-Connection-For-Mobile/1885206545.html
I'm not sure how good it is, but it's 4 times cheaper, so might be worth it? Slightly bigger though, as it also has the usb to pc connection. There were a few other different ones on that site, might be worth a look if you don't mind waiting 20 days for china to ship it to you

Micro USB to Type A Adapter
FWIW, the Meenova comes with a micro USB to type A adapter that allows it to be used with a notebook or PC without removing the SD card. Of course that can be purchased separately and probably doesn't justify the cost differential but I also think the Meenova reader is smaller and lighter which could be a factor if you plan to move the phone while using it.

Just got mine in the mail today, this thing is AWESOME!! The only thing is, at least for me, I can't delete anything through the phone, which, I guess is a good thing in a way.

It might be a problem with your micro SD card. Try checking for errors using "Tools" in properties for the drive on a PC or notebook.

I thought are phone only support up to 32GB of removable memory. I had a 16GB, but decided to get a Samsung Class 10 32GB since it was a great deal and I think that's more than enough for me lol.

It is only supposed to support up to 32gb but I am pretty sure I read somewhere that someone was using a 64gb. I wouldnt be surprised if 64gb worked just fine.

Ok from what Ive seen, the camera and camcorder no longer tells you how many pictures/video time is remaining. Is that atleast correct?

I ordered two and have used these befofe the sdxc system in the micro sd cards seem to be read as sdhc so that these phones can support it. On an evo even it reads perfectly fine. On the ET4G I havent checked the camera information but it does transfer at 30mb/s (read/write fluctuate between 15-20mb on actual transfer and write is just a bit higher).

ordered.. thanks!
I have been using the 64gb sdxc card for about a month now. It works great!
When I first installed it my phone did not recognize it. Easy fix....
1.menu
2.Settings
3.Storage
4.Unmount SD card
5.Format SD card
The only minor issue I have had is "media scan" can sometimes take a little long if I have too much media saved on the SD card. I usually just place a period in front of large folders that contain movies and private photos. This will hide the contents of the folder from the "media scan".Then I just access them with ES file explorer. The media scan never takes anymore than a couple seconds and its NOT really an issue.
Also for some strange reason Windows will not recognize the card when plugged in to the computer directly but My Mac will. When transferring files from Windows I just use the USB cord and transfer via mass storage or MTP Application.
BUY IT NOW!!! You will not regret it.
I forward this to a few techy friends, we always share deals. One of them stated that this site is known for selling counterfeit SD cards...any truth to that? I would hate to dish out this type of money for a fake card.

Don't know if it's widespread or isolated incidents.
http://photo.net/digital-camera-forum/00LQNF
The above is from 2007 though, so I don't know if it's relative to today.
After extensive Googling, I have come to this conclusion:
There are hardly any incidents about fake SanDisk cards from Adorama.
There is the one incident above, which may have stuck in peoples minds over the years, but is not indicative of a widespread problem.
Most of all that I read about Adorama is positive, or neutral.
Adorama is in NYC, and is in direct competition with B&H Photo, another reputable Dealer to buy electronics from, so I don't think either wants to blow it, so to speak.
The above is just my opinion, but if Adorama had issues with widespread SanDisk problems, I likely would have found it.
Out of the 2 stores above, I usually shop at B&H Photo, whether in store or online. No particular reason other than I went to B&H Photo years ago, and have continued to go there if the price is right. I've been to Adorama once also, and had no issues. I actually purchased recently a SanDisk 16GB Class 6 card from B&H Photo, but purchased the Samsung 32GB Class 10 card a couple of weeks afterwards from another Dealer.
Adorama advertises a lot on 660 AM WFAN sports radio. Pretty big name. I'd be surprised if they wouldn't work with someone who received a bad or fake card.
Found this video with the card being used HERE
Thanks Biker1 & The Root for the feedback... I am yet to get let down from buying a product that I heard from a member on xda developers...even more recommended.

Anytime.
I don't have the card, but from what I've read, I wouldn't hesitate to get it if I was looking for a 64GB card, and Adorama seems like a safe bet

Can I get more storage space?

Hey, I have searched a bit for an answer here but can anyone actually tell me if I can get a larger SD card or more gigabytes for storage on my Samsung galaxy nexus??
Cheers

No. Only way to get more space is using a kernel which supports USB hosted storage.
It is too risky trying to change the memory chip (i imagine soldering is needed) already installed in your phone.

What I'm planning on doing is this:
I've ordered one of these: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/USB-Host-Ada...s=63&clkid=7945018501273467967#ht_1590wt_1067
Hoping it works on the G Nex, I think it should.
And then I'm getting one of these: http://www.lacie.com/products/product.htm?id=10425
Gonna basically have a little microUSB flash drive. I'm just gonna plug the moskeyto into my computer every now and then to sync, but I think it's the best solution for being able to carry larger files I want to use on my phone.
I'm not sure its gonna work yet. Gonna test my existing drive with the host adapter before buying the new drive, but for $2, its worth giving it a shot.

Another option if you've got a microsd card laying around from a previous phone (like I do) is to get that same OTG cable and a mini microsd reader like http://www.amazon.com/ELAGO-Mobile-Reader-World-Smallest-EL-RD-012/dp/B002K7EJDK
Now suddenly that 16GB microsd isn't as useless as it was although you'd still have to put up with the terribad transfer speed.
Speaking of which, do they publish the Moskeyto's read/write xfer speed? I mean you know, it doesn't actually matter on the device (as long as its fast enough to stream a 720p video without any issues) but it does matter when you're just trying to get some data on it from your PC .
On a related note re: storage space, I got Google Play Music working 2 nights ago and I must say that I'm impressed at how seamless it works. It's also nice having my entire active-music library, has also meant that I can trim my "offline" sync playlist even more to save more space. This space saving method, of course, does mean you gotta have a decent data plan if you wanna stream and drive.
Cheers everyone. At least I have a couple options now.

Small compact OTG micro sd card reader

ill be ordering this http://www.meenova.com/ and just thought id share it with you all, seeing as the nexus 5 doesnt have a sd card slot
whats great about it is that it can attach to a keyring, so that you can always have it with you and not forget it
i mostly use my sd card for rom flashing and backup keeping, and we all know how much space that can take up

I bought a Meenova USB OTG adapter/card holder and put a uSD SanDisk 64GB in it (formatted to FAT32). It works well with Nexus Media Importer https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.homeysoft.nexususb.importer I have read that Stickmount works well if you are rooted. I was able to copy files to and from the uSD card and phone or play media right off the uSD card.
What a good find!!! Thank you so much! Wish it would come in red though.
Look nice, I bought something similiar that double as a usb cable too. It is very useful on the keychain.
This looks awesome, now I just need to decide on color... Black or Orange for my black N5..... hmmmmmm
I ordered one. with 32gb i never really see the need, but i'll use it to hold movies/files when i travel instead of loading them on my nexus.
I read about this a few days ago. I'm 95% sure im going to root my phone because to my understanding I wouldn't be able to load up a microsd without it correct? Getting this if I do not would be a waste of an investment, right?
I have a Rooted Nexus 7, but never tried to load anything via OTG before
I was beginning to regret not getting a 32GB Nexus 5 but this may work. I hope it works with a Spigen Ultra Hybrid.

There are at least two ways to use an USB OTG setup with an unrooted N5.
Use Nexus Media Importer (link in my previous post).
Use Total Commander file explorer with USB Stick Plugin https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ghisler.android.TotalCommander&hl=en and https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.hechler.tcplugins.usbstick
Nexus Media Importer is not free, but I found it much more polished and easier to use. USB Stick Plugin for Total Commander is a trial program, but just makes you download the new version every month when it expires. If you are going to root anyway, then you might as well go with Stickmount. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.stickmount&hl=en since it is free. If you are thinking about rooting, go ahead and unlock your bootloader now so all the setup you do on your phone between now and then doesn't get wiped when you do root and need to unlock your bootloader.
Thanks for that info! Very helpful.
Yea - I'm almost sure I want to root it. There's a toolkit for Mac in the other section which people have used successfully. I rooted my N7 a while back and have loaded roms and backed up with Titanium. So I'm sort of familiar - I guess it's a slight fear of something unexpected happening. but you're right, the longer I wait, the more of a PITA it's going to be to set everything back up.

[Q] Samsung 64gb MicroSDXC External Card issues

Hi all. I have recently been given the new Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) for my 40th Birthday. I have bought a Samsung 64Gb MicroSDXC UHS-1 PRO Card to be able to expand its memory.
The card turned up today and no my up most annoyance I can't get it to work properly.
Here are my faults:-
Mount the SD Card, check on File manager and it says 63.28Gb available. 1 Folder (LOST.DIR) showing on the card with 0 files in.
If I go and try to add a new folder, a message appears at the bottom of the screen saying 'Creation failed' and then card becomes unrecognisable by the File manager.
The go to SETTINGS/GENERAL/STORAGE and scroll down to SD Card and it reads 0.00B Total space, 0.00B Available space.
If I unmount and remount without physically extracting the card, nothing changes, it still reads 0.00B available. I have to physically remove, wait 5 secs and re-insert the card for it to be recognised again.
I have downloaded SDCardTester from Play Store and that worked fine on the first try, Reading and Writing 100%. Each time I try and do that again it now says 'ERROR - No permission to write to extSdCard'
I have checked the Permission/Platform.xml file and the <group gid="sdcard_rw" /> line item is there.
I have also noticed that a couple of times that I have tried to download apps from Play Store while the card is inserted into the SD Slot, the Samsung Note turns itself off and reboots itself without me even pressing anything.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 too and when the card is inserted into this, I can fully read and write to it.
So my question is, why can't I do the same with the Note 10.1 (2104 Edition)? What is it I need to do?
BTW - I am a complete novice at this and if Rooting is the way forward then please can someone explain it in laymans terms.
I have the EXACT same card yet never had any issues with it. I took it out of its packaging and popped it in and never needed to format it or anything and its worked brilliantly from day one, So no idea why yours isnt working with the Note 10.1 2014. Maybe zomeone more tech savvy than me and you can come up with a reason.
Sent from Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition via Tapatalk.
Yeah, bought a SDXC Class 10, Samsung, 64GB. It was working, but had serious issues with stuff like "permissions", it was also so incredibly slow.
Then, all of a sudden, I restart the tablet, it "checks for errors", and automatically unmount it. If I go to the Storage menu, the whole tablet freezes while it's trying to identify the SD. Tried to put it on the PC, but the same problems: I open the partition manager, it will freeze until I take the card off. Tried on Windows, and in Linux, through GParted, it wasn't showing either.
I found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/tutorial-howto-convert-external-sd-card-t2480963 , and I'm going on the expert mode. fdisk never opens, then I tried directly to format (Since I know the folder, and it's the same one as in the tutorial), and the same command doesn't work (There is no -t), so I tried -F and it gives a "Short write" error.
I'm not sure if my card is busted (After 2 days since I bought...), because all of them still tries to read it, but just can't reach an end...

I have downloaded SdCardReader App which is supposed to be able to let you know if it's counterfeit, when I originally ran this it came back as all ok.
This doesn't explain why it works perfectly well in my Samsung Note 3 and not in the 10.1 (2014) though which is why I'm confused???
Well, the price is right, but I generally wouldn't trust eBay. I've only gotten counterfeits from there. But if it's working with your phone, sounds like a legitimate card.

Had same problem with that card. Returned it to dealer and got a new one.
You have no chance to get it work.

Did you try to format it in the new tablet?
Did you try to put it into a computer and see if that can read it?
Also did you try to put anything on it in the other note?
Hi guys, so is there a solution to this? I'm having the exact same problem with downloading apps and also with the card reading 0.00. it works fine in my pc, works fine in my samsung phone, but probs with my note. Is this a known issue or do we replace the tablet or card?

Where did you buy your card from.
My guess would be get a refund on the SD card and buy the SD Card from Amazon. Reason being is then you will know for sure what the issue is since Amazon only sell official items. I bought mine from amazon and worked straight out of the packet.

Yup! It was a fake! Went down to my local store, straight out of the box worked a treat, no issues what's over in all my tests and maaaaaaan it's Fast! After getting the genuine one u can notice extremely subtle differences In the packaging.

Got similar fake directly from german seller hitmeister (and not via some reseller registered there, but directly from a company).
This is one of the large vendors/aggregators like amazon, and thus i'm surprised to receive a fake card from such company.
Also the card wasn't cheap - some 42 Euros (by the comparison it is 38 Euros at ComputerUniverse).
The package is different to what is available on the market (64 GB are written in white, while PRO is written in grey, and not in silver.)
Still the package looks pretty legit, even though Model code indicates it is a chinese version (MB-MGBGB/CN).
Though the card itself looks already a bit strange - The package indicates that the card is made in Korea, however on the cart Taiwan is written.
Also on the card it self the size is written in the same color as the other information.
I'm testing the card with H2testw for 5,5Hours already and got only 14GB Tested for writing.
First 6 GB were tested quickly (some 4,5 MB/s - still way below class 10), but speed dropped afterwards (i'd say to 0,5MB/s).

Yeah, I already bought 2 original 64GB Micro SD from Amazon, one for the tablet, one for my phone, but both I made sure to buy from Amazon itself, not from others, and both came well, though I do admit that, to create directories on it via explorer, this tablet sucks compared to my Xperia Z1, but I think the problem is Touchwiz security related bull**** and does not happen with good Android based interfaces.

if you're talking about SD card permissions, that is something all KitKat devices have in common, and has nothing to do with "TouchWiz bull****"

Same story - Hitmeister is the third largest online vendor in Germany (after amazon).
Though i've heard that noone is protected even at amazon.
At least my 14 days return period is not over yet.
Will try to give it back.
After 18 hours of testing with H2testw the conclusion is very clear:
The media is likely to be defective.
7.4 GByte OK (15692927 sectors)
Remainder is lost.
Bought my 64gb memory card on ebay over a year a go. Had it in my Galaxy S4 and my Note 10.1 2014 edition tablet and never had a problem with it from day one.
I've had a few from this eBay seller definitely not counterfeit

Regardless if there are genuine sellers on ebay you are always taking a gamble buying from there, always stick to direct sellers like amazon or on the high street so you don't waste your time with rouge coyboys.
