LG G3 or hold out for Nexus 6? - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Not sure what to do. Should I jump to G3 or hold out for nexus 6. I have a nexus 5 and love it. I have been going cross-eyed from over thinking this and would love some opinions. Any and all feedback is appreciated.

Even if there is Nexus 6, it probably won't be released until early November late October

Get the g3, the Nexus 6 will probably be fantastic, but if you put off for that one, you'll put off for whatever comes up next. Get the phone and enjoy it. Life is short, get many phones.

I'm getting the g3 and I'm wanting to see what Samsung has in line for the note 4 but the nexus 6 is on my radar as well

I am unimpressed with the G3, and plan on shipping it back tomorrow. The "amazing" screen looks like garbage next to my iphone 5s. I'm holding out for the Nexus 6.

There's another topic with the same question already.

BTW The iPhone 5s has a 640p screen I.e. not even standard HD which is 720p and the S5 is 1080p so I hope it looks better. I never understood iphones 'retina' anyway. To me it's more of a marketing ploy but I digress.
The N6 isn't really confirmed or even leaked so we may not know until right before a possible release. I would stick with the G3 and or read through the topic I linked above.

I say get a g3 its a sick phone and if you don't like it just sell it and buy a nexus 6 when it comes out.

If you are a nexus fanboy I'd say wait because the nexus 6 could very possibly be the very last nexus phone.

Get the g3. I have the n4 and had the n3. Wasn't too interested in the n5. One thing I am certain is that the n6 will NOT have a sdcard

Why not both? Buy and enjoy the G3 now and sell it when the N6 comes out. You can probably sell it for near the price of the N6.

I've had almost all the NEXUS phones, the last two really didn't impress me at all. Too much compromise in the software for the "pure Android" experience. It might have been cool a couple years ago when manufacturers would bloat the phone down like crazy, well... Samsung's TouchJizz is still a major offender but other manufactures have really slimmed and optimized their UI's while adding a ton of useful features. It's now to the point where I feel pure Android is lacking way too much. Also I never had a good camera experience nor good battery life with ANY of my Nexus phones. It also seems like Nexus devices uses lower end components to meet their price quota, lower quality LCD panels, lower binned CPU/GPU's that thermal throttle like crazy, mediocre camera sensors, small batteries ect...
No more Nexus phones for me, unless they release something really extraordinary but I really doubt it with their budget price cap. After owning both the Nexus 5 and G2, it was incredible how much better the G2 was in everything from software, battery life, screen quality and camera. The G2 just seemed way better engineered and thought out, sure it was "almost" twice as much off contract as the Nexus 5 but this really was a case of "you get what you pay for".

I came from the Nexus 5 to G3 couldn't be more happy! Had enough of terrible battery life from the Nexus 5, will not be getting a Nexus phone ever again.

Agreed, I was also pretty unimpressed by both the Nexus 4 and 5. So the OP should just go ahead and get the G3 now. Then he can wait for the N6 release, and when everyone and their mother has reviewed it to death and found any faults, he can then proceed by selling the G3 and buying the N6 if he think it's worth it That's my plan anyway.

i have the n5 as well..it wont last me not even 2 hours...just using instagram snapchat..texts and facebook..sometimes browsing..ive had the n4 before and i dont think i will get the n6..as far as i heard..it is going to have a 5.2 screen..no sd..no ir blaster..the battery will suck..non removable battery it will probably not top out the g3

Iv seen a Nexus 6 on Craigslist for $600. Im thinking, my G3 is everything that is. Im running Lollipop fast and stable. The display isnt as big but 6" is too much for pocket
Resolution and pixel count are on par. Ram and Rom is on par, plus I can add micro sd and change battery. I love my G3 and Im on freakin Verizon. G3 is the best phone out right now....

I love my Nexus, you won't be disappointed if you get one. I owned an iPhone for a year and half and will never go back. I prefer the open garden approach and Android is leaps and bounds ahead of iOS IMO. You will still have issues with battery life but that is pretty much going to be the case with any smart phone with such a big screen and LTE.
Nooo I'm going to a university in England so ill have no use for 4G and stuff the main thing I like about the iPhone is the retina display its so clear that and the fact it's really fast, also I won't be buying it on contract ill probably pay about £300 and get one of them on pay as you go.

I'm about to upgrade from my Droid 2 Global also, and is thinking about the galaxy nexus or the new droid razr m, from the reviews on the razr m battery life seems pretty good, you might want to consider that.
The defferences I see between the galaxy nexus and the razr
Nexus 4.65 inch screen Razr M 4.3M
Nexus Processor 1.2 MHZ Razr 1.5 MHZ
Nexus no expandable memory option Razr M has a micro sd slot takes up to 32 G
They both have NFC
Nexus camera is 5 mega pixel Razr M 8 , but review says both have mediocre picture taken.
Nexus verizion i think have jelly bean now (not sure) Razr M Motorola promises jelly bean before the end of the year.
Compare them they are both $99 bucks on Verizon website.
$99 for a galaxy nexus ? I refuse to believe this.
Nvm you have to buy a contract that's a rip off.

I know BestBuy was selling the Verizon Nexus for free with new/renewed contract for a while there. Looking at their website now though, it looks like it is back to $99. If you could get the Nexus for free, I think that would be the way to go vs the Razr M.
I wouldn't have a clue about American deals or providers as I live in the UK, although I have been contemplating upgrading my nexus s to the galaxy nexus however it's put me off as I've heard a lot of reports of it being laggy and the camera is crappy so you don't really want to be paying £300+ for a phone with sub par features. And the only thing putting me off about the iPhone 4 is the glass back, you drop that ****er once and its gone and I've dropped my nexus s so many times it's unbelievable but it's sponged it so I don't know what to do really..

I found the retina display underwhelming until I finally saw a 3gs and realized how big of a jump it was for iPhone users. Most of the higher end android phones were already using high density displays so the advantage was minimalized.
As for the Nexus, its plenty fast (especially with JB) and the screen is quite high def as well (people talk about the screen tech but I cant see it, pixel density is too high).
And the features are night and day. Apple gives you a basic platform and lets you buy into advanced features. Android, from the beginning really packed those features in. Voice actions, maps and navigation, notification system have all been there for years and are quite mature.

Definitely get the Galaxy Nexus per all of the above comments, not to mention the huge developer community backing it. If in 3 months you don't like something about the phone, change it. The battery life isn't that bad considering what all you do with the phone anyway. I can go all day with a mid day battery boost of about 20% and JB is pretty snappy as well.

They could be coming out soon with a new wave of nexus devices. I might go for the Sony xperia nexus if/when it comes out. Tho, it probably won't be cheap. And my parents offered to put me on their family plan with verizon since they booted my ex-brother-in-law. So who knows. Good luck, man!
Galaxy nexus FTW!!!!

Compare the Operating Systems. Nowadays I think it's not mainly a hardware question, but price and software. Look at both of them and decide which work flow / features cater more to your need. Personally, I would go for the Galaxy Nexus with Android. My workflow with android is much more fluid than with iOS.
And if you aren't frightened of flashing your phone to get new features, more power etc, then Android is a natural choice.
PS: And on another note, I wouldn't support a company behaving like Apple right now.
Come on....don't buy an iPhone

Honestly not bad at all, but except CPU changes and induction charging, what are the better points compared to the GNEX ?
Unless a Verizon version launches later (like always seems to happen with Sprint Nexus devices), I'll be hanging onto my LTE Gnex until the next Nexus comes out late next year. I like my LTE, I like 32 GB of storage, and let's face it, Verizon has the best network in the country. That's pretty much indisputable.
Eh. I'm sorry, but after getting 4G LTE on my nexus I will not buy another phone without it. I'll get 4.2 on my current nexus and that will hold me over until a better device comes out. I really kinda hate LG. . .
The new device looks awesome. I think I'm jealous of the camera and new version of Android. Oh yeah. And that quad core S4. Lol. We still have a cool phone. We will have 4.2 soon enough.

Other than the big brother spec bump, bringing nexus hardware back to relevancy, Lifespan, is probably the main, albeit undersold, reward in buying the new nexus. Will the gnex still be adequate by the time nexus 5 rolls around? Maybe. But whatever the life of this phone, the 4 will far exceed it. And longevity is one of the key reasons Joe phone user purchases the nexus.

Amen to that.
Right now I'm going stir crazy without a 10" tablet! I sold my old Nexus S and my LTE Motorola Xoom so I could have the cash to buy a Nexus 10. Since they aren't available until November 13, I'm going to go crazy without it! That Nexus 7 is great for reading in bed, but for doing anything productive, I needs me a 10" tablet. My laptop is going to get more use the next two weeks than it has in 2 months!
There's no comparison. Not even close. N4 is the best spec'd phone available on almost every component and costs the same as the Galaxy Nexus. If you bought a GN in the last 29 days, return it immediately. With all that said, the Galaxy Nexus is still an excellent phone.

That is basically always the point. Also, considering the nexus s still gets updates I doubt we will stop getting them for a while. Also, the galaxy nexus can play whatever games I want it to, and it has the same GPU as the nexus s ( I am talking nova 3 , NBA 2k13( which stutters a little bit), and dead trigger on high).

I'll wait until I see the screen to decide that. After two Samsung Nexus in a row I'm ready for someone else and even a different screen tech.
The camera will be the main selling point for me. Absolutely love my GNex, but I find it funny whenever I see apologists try to act as if the camera isn't sub par.
Wireless charging, even though I like it, is only a gimmick (much like the curved screen of the GNex to be fair).
I have no plans on upgrading; that being said I also don't have insurance on my phone. If I had to replace it, I'd definitely spring for the N4 if I was going brand new instead of eBay/ CL.

Its not like the iPhone where there's like significant improvement every year over last year's model, the Nexus 4 is about the same size, all it really has on the GalNex is the 8MP camera, but coming from LG that may not even be an improvement, at least a noticeable one.

Just because it has twice the cores and twice the RAM, doesn't necessarily make it 2x faster. That's not how things like that work. It all depends on the application and how it's being used.
Such as browsing the web. It'll probably be just as "fast" on both phones (talking about the application, not webpage load time). Sure, the Nexus 4 will be a faster overall, but not 2x faster.
Now, when applications are going to be made to support all 4 of those cores, THEN you'll start seeing some very nice performance increases! That's one of the reasons why this is a great phone - it's pretty much future proofed for quite a while.
Although, I'm not buying it. I'm very happy with my GNex right now. It does everything I could ask it to and more. (Not to mention I'm stuck with version, but that's a different subject).

Actually you are wrong. He stated the CPU is 2-3 times faster. He did not say apps would be 2-3 times faster as you pointed out. In actuality the CPU on the Nexus 4 is a beast. Overclocked Galaxy Nexus at 1.7 GHz I can get on average 105 MFLOPS on the multi thread portion of Linpack but the S4 quad gets 460 MFLOPS on the same test so the real answer is YES it is 2-3 times or more faster. But linpack and quadrant scores don't count in day to day stuff.......at least that's what everyone says.

So I ordered a nexus 4 awhile back and then got a sweet deal on a galaxy nexus. After my nexus 4 came in the mail i played with it awhile and realized the quad core was only really good for gaming, the 2 gigs of ram is good if you use alot of widgets i suppose but i don't. after taking everything into consideration i decided i liked my nexus better. nexus 4 was going for 5 to 600 on craigslist.sold nexus 4 for 550 and bought 1 year of straight talk minutes for nexus.. Point is you earned 250 from this poor sob.
Sweet profit you made there. The Galaxy Nexus is indeed enough for everybody except for people who suffer from the obsessive need to have the latest thing even if the latest thing is not really worth buying over what you already have.
Disregard

Supply and demand . Play Store is out of stock in every country. Don't forget it's Christmas shopping season. If you're going to sell, this is the perfect time. (After the new year, it'll probably settle down again, everyone will be trying to offload the gifts they don't like XD)

Not true. I loved my Galaxy Nexus, but it just started chugging for me. For basic operations, it was fine, but it started to lag here and there. Also, the screen's protective layer started peeling off and it was annoying to scroll or just generally slide my finger on the screen. I thought those were good enough reasons to switch, so I sold my Galaxy Nexus for $250, and paid $170 extra for a lot more horsepower, but I will probably not enjoy the glass back and the non-removable battery.
I think i made out pretty well lol

Well, you're happy, nuff said:good:
Sweet deal but it would suck if straight talk cancelled your service for their B-S cap or little to no reason on that 1 year of service.
While the s4 pro is nice and all I would have preferred Google had let samsung make a refreshed galaxy nexus 2 with the exynos 5250 and the 8mp camera out of the s3/note ii.

Exynos is closed source, you won't ever see it in a Nexus.
I wanted to buy Nexus 4, but then I (after quite some time) flashed stock Android and realized how fast actually GNex is. N4 is great and all, but just not enough for me to spend any money. I'll wait for the next year...

Its more open than both the s4 pro and tegra 3. And it is in a nexus device. The nexus 10 which had no problems getting into aosp. The s4 based nexus 4 had trouble with licensing. The exynos is not closed it just took samsung forever to get documentation out for the exynos 4. The exynos 5 is used in a nexus device and will have extensive documentation. Much better than what people will have to deal with on s4 pro. Qualcomm is propably one of the most closed soc makers out there.

Glad you're happy with your choice, but a bit confused about the description.... I've yet to hear of a protective layer on the Galaxy Nexus screen that could peel off, unless you're talking about the plastic film on the screen that you are supposed to remove when unboxing the phone. The glass is a"fortified" glass, similar to gorilla glass, hardened based on composition, heat and pressure. There has been speculation about an oleophobic coating, but that would be a chemical bath if anything, not any kind of peelable layer.... I believe you may be the first to report a peeling galaxy nexus screen...
Regarding your observation that it started to lag... there is nothing in the hardware that would age or degrade and cause lagging. The battery is perhaps the only part that ages with use, and that can be replaced in a minute or two. If you were seeing lag, it was likely due to configuration or an app taking more than its share of resources. Apps link Currents like to do background syncing, and when they do, your only indication that it's happening is a lagging UI in whatever else you're doing. A bit of house cleaning, or even a ROM and/or kernel update could probably have made the device fly again...

IMO that's why the Nexus 4 is not in AOSP and why the Nexus4 may not see full AOSP support, but instead a more hobbled form. It probably wouldn't have an effect now, but down the road it will. The only other Snapdragon Nexus was the Nexus One.

"Only other"? You do realize that makes Qualcomm the most popular chip maker for nexus phones right? 2/4.

[nexus 5][if yes then why?]

who are going to update to nexus 5 and why??
I have ordered one though
I'm going to get a Nexus 5 because the 1GB RAM isn't enough for what I'm doing with my phone. With multiple Tasker things, PIE control, Halo, Chrome, lots of constant music listening, Nova Launcher themeing, things keep getting killed, lagging my phone, and at times even rebooting. 4.3 helped, but the hardware limitation is still there. That, and my display is wearing out. I can see lines in many places. I won't dump my Galaxy Nexus, though. It'll become a test device to test the apps I'm developing.
Now all I'm waiting for is someone to let me buy one... Come on either Google, Amazon, or Best Buy!
i have bought nexus 5 because i was waiting for it for a couple of month and and my galaxy nexus is no where good in taking normal daily pictures so OIS + nexus that made me to fall in love with nexus 5
I'm buying because I chose last October to not to buy any phones until the next nexus generation phone came out. So I've been waiting too darn long for this phone to drop. But Google decided to be a pest this year with all the ****ery they decided to do to promote this phone. It's like having blue balls and although there's a chick laying there naked knowing you want it but just won't let you have it yet instead she flaunts the p***y in your face to show you how good you can expect it to be. :'( Google stop teasing just let me get in it already lol.

I've been planning on leaving Verizon for the next nexus. Honestly though, I'm not terribly impressed with the Nexus 5, so I may go Moto X. Whichever has a better camera and battery life.

yeah every time I got a p***y in my face, I gagged. But yes I got my N5 on order! 4.2 was what convinced me that I need to upgrade my 9250 to a faster Nexus.
Not sure if my next phone will be a nexus or.. and Android :|

Because my gnex is getting old
I would get it only if I read that the battery of nexus 5 last for one day with heavy use.

I've been holding off on the phone purchase but now is the time. Black Nexus 5, 32G on it's way. I couldn't beat the off-contract price.
I'm done with VZN, probably going with $30 T-mobile monthly prepaid.
You realize the nexus 5 is just an inferior cheaper knock off of the lg g2 with a crappy camera an battery.

I got slimkat 4.4 on my gnex does that mean my gnex is better than the g2, the g2 has 13mp camera compared yo nexus 5 that has 8mp, the battery is 3000mah on g2 an 2300mah on n5 plus g2 has a slightly bigger screen.Throw a kitkat rom on g2 an you got a better phone than n5 if your theory is correct.
