[Q] Constantly Reboots - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got this phone yesterday. I rooted with HTCDev and then I got S-Off with firewater and SuperCID. Ever since I installed Android Revolution 8.1 it reboots constantly. I have wiped cache, did a fresh install even tried to flash CM, but the reboots are still there. I am on 2.xxx.xxx framework and have TWRP recovery. Any help? I think it might be related to memory leaks, but I am not entirely sure.

Did you do a full wipe before install.

I always do. No matter the rom I am flashing or where I'm coming from. My OCD doesn't handle dirty flashing at all.

Have you tried to flash img file from your Rom via adb. Did you make a backup ?

Are you on Verizon ? I don't know much about HTC One M8 variants but it seems some complication there. Maybe a restore to Verizon ROM/firmware can help you.
Anyway .. here is the Verizon thread if needed : http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-htc-one-m8
You mentioned that you installed ARHD 8.1 ROM ... which firmware that you installed ? I know you are not a noob but sometimes people confuse the different of a firmware and a ROM

I'm not entirely sure. I will keep this thread updated, if I have anymore random reboots. I figured just doing a clean install would be a good start to resolve the problem; it always is.

Just had my first reboot. I think it might be due to greenify. Does anyone have experience with this app and the HTC One M8

Greenify wont cause reboots. Are you running a custom kernel and undervolting by any chance?

Try to downgrade your firmware to 1.54.x.x...or if you stick with 2.x.x.x try ARHD 9.1 to see if it makes any difference

Installed AOKP custom rom, phone constantly reboots

Okay, I've gotten the bootloader unlocked, Team Win Recovery (which is the only one that works) installed, and AOKP installed. My phone is constantly rebooting. How do I get past this?
this is commonly seen when you have the OTA Updated radio. probably best to RUU and get stock radio back on and start your unlocking and rom flashing all over.
I'm sorry, but what does this mean?

I got everything working myself.
Good ol' RUU exe and rom.zip in the temp folder.

Stuck on 4.4.2 or what?

So I got my m8 htcdev boot loader unlocked, with twrp, rooted, S-on, 4.4.2, only to realize that in order to flash ViperRom I gotta update my firmware. Not exactly sure what to do. Any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Any additional information would be greatly appreciated. What software? Any particular reason you're just not updating via the OTA, 4.4.3 is already out for what, 2 months now? Also, why not do a search for info on how to do firmware upgrades? [2014.09.07][GUIDE] FUU and Firmware flashing
I attempted to do the ota but it didn't show up and for some reason I have to wait 24hrs before checking again. Is it okay to do a stock ota update even though I have a custom recovery with root?

No, you must be stock. Root is fine, you'll lose it though but you can flash it back afterwards. Recovery on the other hand needs to be stock.
Alright. So can I just flash the stock recovery again and it will work?

Correct, assuming you made no other changes to the system, or didn't make changes to build.prop or deleted apps like Facebook, Twitter etc. If all those are "as is" when you got the device then yeah, only flash back stock recovery and you're good to go :good:
Haha alright thanks a ton! I was totally lost with what to do. I just have one last issue. When I attempted to flash the stock recovery through fastboot I got an error about "target max download size" would you possibly know a solution to this?

Should be interesting though. You got a screenshot of that?

[Q] GPE 4.4.4 flash problem

Hey guys I flashed the GPE HTC One M8 4.4.4 ROM as listed in this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2706441&page=6
Before this I had CM11 M10 - I did the usual factory reset and so on / wiped data etc and then flashed the ROM via TWRP recovery. Problem is just after the Google animated logo when I get to the setup screen the device powers off and reboots after about 15 seconds. I've tried flashing twice.
Anyone any thoughts on this? I have the international GSM HTC One M8 so my device should be compatible?
Thanks,
Fintan

Great thanks, I'll give that a try

Please help with TWRP access

I recently converted my unlocked m8 to a GPE and everything works perfectly. I'd like to flash the Skydragon GPE lollipop rom, but when I go into the fastboot screen and select recovery I get put into a screen with the red triangle dead android. I can reboot the device back up as normal, but can't seem to get around this into TWRP.
Any suggestions?
That's stock recovery, flash twrp then it will work

If you flashed TWRP before RUU conversion to GPE, the conversion overwrites recovery with the stock recovery.
If you flashed TWRP after the conversion, maybe it just didn't flash properly like you said.
That's definitely the case. I'll reflash TWRP. Thanks guys!

Obviously I'm still a little new at some of this. I know to make a backup before flashing the Skydragon gpe 5.0 rom, but I'm curious; whenever Htc releases the gpe ota update, could I flash back to my current state and then do the OTA? Would there be any real benefit to doing that?

Any Information On 6.0 Update?

Supposedly we'd have it by the end is the year. That's only 8 days from now.
I'm trying to find status update on T-Mobile website but it's junk and can't find what I'm looking for.

I've already found search there but no matter what phone you click it's highlighted as "T-Mobile testing" but you're able to click any of the three stages and it changes it so it's not very clear.

That wasn't 6.0, that was a software update to prepare for the 6.0 update. That's the second one in the last few months.

Weird, I just put my phone back to the Tmo version from being converted to EU and the last OS update I got was 4.20.531.4 and then came the 3 little updates for preperation for Marshmallow. Nothing after that. Should that matter that I didn't get the Stagefright 4.20.531.5 update?

You're right, I should have paid closer attention before posting.
Assuming the update does come soon, and I get impatient, how would I go about returning to stock/unrooted in order to receive it OTA? (I'm stock, rooted, s-on)
Short story, you need to restore a non-root backup and the restore to stock recovery. The version of stock and the recovery need to match. Also I believe ( but could be wrong ) the version will match the hboot that you have. This is why before you root, you grab a copy of the ROM and recovery and save them.

What will happen if I simply update when it does roll out? I'm on stock rooted but never took a backup before root.

The update will fail. OTA the updates from T-mobile need to have you on the non-rooted, non-modified stock ROM with stock recovery installed that matches the version of the ROM.
That is why before I installed TWRP - copy the recovery and ROM and note the version in the filename. Also because I run stock more often than I run rooted, custom ROM, etc. I usually leave the stock recovery inplace and use the command 'fastboot boot twrp.img' command to boot into TWRP. This way I use TWRP but not have to restore my stock recovery when needed.

How do I revert back to the normal recovery? I installed the custom recovery to root the phone.
When the update rolls out I will need to unroot and reinstall the normal recovery?
Wow... @moversi finally posted after ~ 20+ days of being MIA...
Say's they're currently on target for a 1/25 release for 6.0 on T-Mobile...

Getting frustrating now. I'll end with with a new phone and only get to enjoy MM on the M8 for little to no time at all.

Seems like the carriers are pulling the update. Sprint has and I think I saw that Verizon too but not 100%. My thought is too many bugs still with MM.

Hopefully they are fixing any bugs that plague Android 6.0, if that's the case, they can take all the time they need to make it right.
@uoY_redruM, why don't you just convert your phone to who has MM? Or you can't?
