[Q] Transfer Files from iPHONE - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
Just picked up the G3 and had an iPHONE previously.
Is there a software (preferably free one) that can transfer the contacts, calender, texts, etc to G3?
Thanks in advance --

If your contacts are stored in your Google account then just add or to your phone any sync them. If not I suggest backing then up via Google for the future(it really helps). Every time I get a new phone it has everything in less than 5 minutes and I don't have to have the carrier do it or my computer. There are many good apps out there as well of your check Google play. Or your could back your phone up to google drive and download all of your photos and such. If you need texts you can do a Sim card back up. The options are indeed limitless. I hope you enjoy your G3.

yes, it is called calendar and is on your phone.
lol, i guess that works(i never use it, thats y i didnt think of it) but i was hopin for maybe something simpler.
Thanks!
Wow!
I'm gonna apologize if I sound like a prick, but if people took the time to play with their phones a bit to learn what apps were in their device, and what they did, we wouldn't have questions like this where a simple calendar app can remind you when you need it to, it comes with all roms and is not complicated to use.
True...
I use Google calendar for all my needs and set it up to send me a text message 15 minutes prior to the event/task. Then I use Oggsync to sync to my phone from the Google calendar. May switch to NuevaSync soon thouh (free).

Google offers a Sync option for free. It syncs contacts and your calendar OTA (over the air)
Does that require a data package? All i have is unlimited text. Maybe it wont be too much to recognize on the bill?

Thinking about moving to android, few questions...

Im thinking about moving from WinMo to Android. If you could help me with few questions...
I dont use any Google services, no gmail as I rather use myowndomain.com... I want to sync with Outlook via usb (bluetooth, yeah maybe but usb would be better); contacts, calendar and tasks... Is there good sync software out there?
The main reason for me to have a smartphone for a cell phone, is so I dont need always have a laptop with me. This brings me to opening and editing office apps; I found "Documents to Go" that seems to be OK, anyone using it?
To me its also important to automatically sync folders while syncing with Outlook, any good programs for that? Ive been using MobSync with WinMo and I guess it could work with this too? I found also Microsoft SyncToy, never tried it though...
Can I get my tasks listed on Android today screen like on WinMo? I need to have be reminded of my tasks, otherwise I would spend ½ of my day reading at XDA and not doing any of the things Im supposed to do...
Any comments and help is appreciated... Thanks!

HTC Sync comes with the phone, I also had some contacts stored on my company mail but I've started migrating to gmail because the really really neat integration and extremely useful features.

Yes you can, there are vagarious free apps on the market that even offer feature widgets/notes for the screens
Hi there!
Did you already buy a Desire? I've used winmob before and you sound like you're totally schooled at Outlook with usb sync. HTC has exchange service support and you can sync through usb, It was long time ago since I ever used active sync but a friend of mine use it on Desire and he was not satisfied.
There is calendarpad that can show on start screen as activities or regular day view. Editing documents are thought to be done through Google docs as it is thought to be faster than a full scale office program on the phone. You can other wise get quick office premium for editing offline.

Have you thought about using Google Apps for Domains, so that you can use your own domain with Google services?

[Q] Will the Desire do what my Diamond 2 does?

I am currently using a Topaz windows mobile based phone, and thinking about switching to a Desire.
However, I use my phone extensively for business, and need to know if there are some things that Android will allow.
First off, I need to be able to access my home network with the wireless. Currently I use Resco explorer, browse to my server share, and copy the files I will need to the SD card. Is this possible on Android? Is it just as easy? I often have to do this first thing in the morning, when I don't have a lot of time. This is an absolute deal breaker for me, so I am really looking for some help before I commit to a new phone.
Non show stoppers but nice to have;
Cookie's Home Tab type display , which allows me to show my next 3 calendar appointments, and 3 tasks on the home screen. Will Sense allow this on the Desire? I like the Sense interface and widgets, so would prefer to keep Sense, but am prepared to apply additional software to allow me to do what I need to. (Paid or otherwise).
The ability to map hardware keys to specific functions (eg I currently have long press on the back key to switch off my wifi. Handy for in the car, when I forget to switch it off).
Ability to edit open office, and ms office documents.
That's it I guess. Any and all feedback very much appreciated.
1) yes you can browse files on your home network using the desire, you need 3rd party software tho also there are apps that will let you controll your pc and or device remotlely from your device and or pc
2) there are loads of calendar widgets on the marketplace im sure one will take your fancy
3) the wifi will switch itself off after x amout of time idle
4) the desire comes with quick office out of the box but there are tons of office apps so yeah
Just a small warning if you think to sync your mobile with the PC (callendar, notes, mails, contacts) via bluetooth - it's not possible in android.
Well, not entirely true, as there is "Missing Sync" in the market, but costs for about $40 - a bit too much.
So, try to love your usb cable
Or sync through the google things and sync your home stuff with the google things. For me it's annoying as I hate the google things, but it does sort of work.

Why would you buy a google thing-centric phone if you hate google things?
On it's way
Thanks guys, you've convinced me.
Ordered from O2 for the princely sum of £285 + VAT, which I thought was a mistake, but it seems not. Be rude not to at that price.
Bit of luck it will arrive tomorrow, as I'm not working, so can play all day

You're not "sharing" with google though. You're just using their webspace to host information such as calendar and contacts.
Do you really think that Google have the time to look though all of their user's data, see your calendar information and contacts?

Most people here swear by Astro file manager and their add ons.
Check out the Sense agenda widget for upcoming appointments and tasks.

Features missing in Ics?

Hi again, just a couple of features I have noticed missing, or not found them....
First is being able to long hold a contact and send business card etc,
And the other one is deleting individual calls from call history, either in batch or long pressing.
Any one else found some features you'd expect missing or if the ones above will be included in a software update?

You can't zoom in the photo edit application, which makes it absolutely impossible to remove red eyes even though there is such a functionality. Tried it several times already, the built in flash almost always guarantees red eyes.

If I remember correctly, stock Android hasn't had SMS business card sharing for a long time. It's no new discovery with Android 4.0
OK, thanks for the help. Seen the delete call option now. But no SMS sharing.
Galaxy s2 had it, so must be the touchwiz.
Phone is amazing all in all tho!

Ics features Missing
update which misses the core features of ICS. Still its getting rolling to many country almost 4 days gone.
Native 3G VIDEO CALL.- why we have a front camera where we cant use it for video call. Its not fair
WIFI-DIRECT- The most welcomed features. Thought its being the highend smart phone we already misses the 4.0 bluetooth which the board can support but atleast the WIFI capable direct transfer technology which most company including samsung incorporated even in GB phone and adding to these the white paper reveales that its has the technology in buit. But why its not implemented in the latest build.
Camera : Burst Mode. Many low end smartphones has that features. Why we dont have that feature. its really a pain that having spent on high end phone lacks basic functionality where a mediocre devices can perform the same functionality at a fraction of price.
I am not pin pointing or complaining. I am just esclating to the right department to notify that these core features which are missing in the XS.
Please take it as a feedback and do the needfull to the owners of XS.
Thanks
The use of wifi direct. Setting an external MP3 as a ringtone without the use of any apps or moving the MP3 to another location on the phone. In the contacts app, choosing to view only people with cellphone numbers (again, without using any other external app)
Sending sms or email to a group. I don't know why such a simple feature is absent.

Major option missing in that. No sharing via text. That's ****ing stupid to leave out Messaging/Text sharing, which is the main reason to share a contact or business card.

seriously guys move on you live in like 90s.... sms? are you serious? come on... There is like 50 or more social platforms out there way but wayyyyy better than sms.... to name some of them: whatsapp, chaton, viber, etc etc etc, you can send any kind of media any size and create groups or whatever and they are multi platform... meaning they run in blackberry, windows phone, iphone, Android, so what's the deal with sms? I personally haven't sent a sms to a person in years wtf
also world wide you only need a WiFi signal to chat or share media with your people

Never even heard of those apps before. Everybody texts still. All my friends, family, and in my business sales SMS texting is very common and popular.
If those apps you mentioned are so great, lets see Android or iPhone incorporate them directly into their OS or some type of version based off them.

Yup yup, it's a bit daft we need to install Skype or something similar. I wish Google would follow suit like other manufacturers and OEMs, and bundle a native video calling app.
Also, a BBM type thing would be nice, preinstalled, so all Android phones come with it. Group chats and the like would be pretty awesome.

I thought Talk was an MSN Messenger type app? You can't use it via the Phone can you? I.e. going to contacts and clicking call - video call. Surely if you want to make a call using Talk, you need to be logged in, and the other person has to be online etc etc?
SMS is still the most common thing, everyone with a phone has it.
Whatsapp? Not all my friends have a smartphone, let alone Whatsapp.
