[Firmware](Upgrade+Root/Downgrade/Unroot) Files+Flashing Guide [TOT/KDZ/TWRP] 7/07/19 - T-Mobile LG G3

This is for LG G3 D851 ONLY
TOT/KDZ/TWRP Untouched stock restore
IF YOU WANT TO USE THIS GUIDE WAIT UNTIL I HAVE THE LGUP METHOD UP
Who can benefit from this?
Anyone who softbricked with access to download mode [KDZ RECOMMENDED]
Anyone who wants to use the OTA function after root [TWRP RECOMMENDED]
Anyone who needs to send the phone in for repair [TOT RECOMMENDED]
Anyone who wants to be on the most recent firmware [TWRP RECOMMENDED]
Anyone who wants to downgrade *After you update to 20B it is recommended to not downgrade. If you do you WILL have connection problems
Anyone who wants to return to stock from aosp or aokp
Tip: Most of the time TWRP will do what you need without the troubles and baggage TOT and KDZ bring. It will downgrade, upgrade, root, fix soft bricks or just give you a fresh untouched operating system (no personal data left on the phone if you follow instructions). It will also get rid of any proof on the phone that you were rooted (my t-mobile reports root to a remote server nothing can be done about that).
Strengthens and weaknesses for each method click here

(This is a WIP)
Download your preferred choice of D851xxx-Untouched_Stock_Restore.zip HERE (Perfect 1:1 image unlike most roms)
Also download and copy superSu & twrp to your external sd if you want root and custom recovery SUPERSU DOWNLOAD AND TWRP-2.8.6.0-d851.zip
Copy D851xxx-Untouched_Stock_Restore.zip to phone (external sd if available)
Reboot into twrp
For firmware update do not wipe! skip to step 8. If you want untouched stock continue with step 4.
If upgrading from kitkat to lollipop wipe system before flashing.
Click [Wipe]
Click [Advanced Wipe] (For full wipe stock restore only)
Select dalvik cache, system, Data, Internal storage (only if you use external for downloaded file) and cache
Click the home Icon in the bottom left
Click [Install]
Select D851xxx-Untouched_Stock_Restore.zip (make sure you select the proper sd card)
If you want root and/or twrp add UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.37.zip to the queue by touching [Add More Zips]
Repeat for TWRP-2.8.6.0-d851.zip
Swipe to install [====>]
Install will now begin, pure stock: system, kernel, recovery, modem and rpm will be installed
After completion click [wipe cache/dalvik] (do not skip especially if you dirty flashed)
Swipe to wipe [====>]
Click [back]
Click [reboot system] (it might say no os but it is wrong you do have a os click restart anyway) [dirty flash will not have that problem]
If your sending for repair or jump do a factory reset with what should now be the stock recovery just to be safe.
DO NOT INSTALL ROOT UNLESS YOU WANT IT TO BE ROOTED

Correct it also gives developers a chance to start making stock roms even though we don't have root or a recovery yet.

what operating system are you on?

Great guide! Just what I was looking for. 2 questions though... Will this unroot your device? (I would presume untouched stock means that, but you know what happens when I presume. I make a pres of you and me). (I'm looking for a reliable to way to uproot, just in case I want to get an OTA). Also, could you link to the G3 drivers in the OP? This is gonna be my go to post if anyone asks me about it...

Worked for me on 8.1 so it should work for you. Install Microsoft c++ runtime 2012 or 2013 then try again. Also make sure you have the proper drivers installed. Ill upload both runtime and drivers when i get home so if you cant find them check back around 6 or 7.
*Edit
Also make sure your running as administrator.

Thanks!
It will unroot you and it already saved my butt after I accidentaly formatted most of the partitions on the phone. I plan on uploading the unified lg drivers tonight along with c++ runtime. Im also going to hunt down a nice guide and link to it for flashing via the lg suite if this fails. The lg suite way is a pain in the a** but should work if this one fails.

UPDATE
1- I downloaded 2013 Runtime 2013 from here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40784
2- Rebooted my PC
3- Followed the instructions in OP, performing the CSE flash.
4- Received a timeout error really quick but it started to flash.
5- Around 80% the phone went black and never booted to the LG screen, after it hit 100% I unplugged it, removed the battery and rebooted it.
Booting up it entered some mode for a split second and rebooted itself.
Once on homescreen, it rebooted itself one last time.
I'm UnRooted now
I guess i needed to install C++ Runtime
Thanks

[RECOVERY][ROM]Huawei U8500

Hey,
I recently bought this phone Huawei U8500, and I had a long search on the net where can I get a working recovery, finally I found a modified clockworkmod recovery.
It seems that this phone is highly unpopular.
I just wanted to share my finding.
Here you can download this modified version: Download
Steps to install recovery:
1. Download the clockworkmod
2. Unrar it somewhere on your computer
3. Turn off your phone
4. Press & Hold volume down key + call end (red) key and then press power key.
5. Launch the .bat file on your computer + connect your phone via USB
6. When it's finished, take out the battery and wait 5 seconds before putting it back in
7. Then you can access the recovery by holding volume up key + call(green) key
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One thing I can recommend If your phones android build version doesn't end with "712", I suggest you to update it to the beta release, you'll have more functional dual-touch.
Here is the beta froyo update: Download
To install it:
1. Unrar it to your computer, and find a folder named "dload" with the biggest size.
2. Copy that "dload" filder to root of your SD card
3. turn off phone
4. Hold volume up key + end call (red) key and the press power key. Wait for it to load, it will say something like "Updating system" Wait for it to finish, if it says fail, just try again
5. After it says "Update complete" or "Update successful" just restart your phone and you'll have the new beta firmware.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the Russian site I found some unofficial ROM's too.
I haven't tried them yes but if someone is willing here you can download them:
Firmware 2.2 29.01.2011 by Pavlo78
u8500_mao_rls7b2
u8500_mao_rls7++by_march_2
u8500_mao_rls8_by_march
u8500_mao_rls8_by_march
To install one of these ROM's do the following:
1. Copy the ZIP file on root of your SD card, the ZIP file, not RAR.
2. Boot up your phone in recovery mode (by holding volume up key + call(green) key)
3. With your optical trackpad select "Install zip from sd card"
4. From the list choose your ZIP file
5. And then just wait till the installation is complete and then just restart the phone!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I highly recommend you to back up the original firmware before installing new ROM's
You can do that in recovery mode, just click on nandroid and follow the on screen instructions it will backup your current firmware + your currently installed apps.
I'm not responsible for bricking your phone, if something doesn't go well. By doing the things I wrote, you may void your phones warranty.
Don't forget to thank me
Kind regards
xcoder_123
Bro, may i have to wipe all data via recovery like slash, cache and dalvik cache before i install froyo beta?
This is really helpful...a lot of Bangladeshis will be needing this. Telenor just launched this phone here.
I am using Huawei U8500 (Local branded as GrameenPhone Crystal). I have backed up my current ROM using ROM Manager. Can anyone confirm that the back-up ROM contains all the information including the Customized Branding???

So no worry about Warranty. just load it when you need to go to gps Customer care.

10x a lot, monirr, I waz searchin this stock rom ... & do u kno if itz upgradeable 2 Android 2.3.4 or any1 upgraded?
hey im thinking bout buying this phone as i live in bangladesh... can anyone confirm me about the froyo upgrade does it work???
I did download the beta firmware.
And updated the phone's firmware a few minutes ago.
I have the dual touch now, yay (and a little better keyboard).
Many thanks from a Droid noob.
This should be enough for all your stock rom needs.
http://wiki.modaco.com/index.php/Huawei_Firmware_U8500
BTW: If you install the clockwordmod, you will lose the GP stock bootup screen (not the boot animation). So if you are going to claim warranty make sure you flash the GP firmware before you go to the GP centre.
Someone was asking how this phone is...the only issue I have is knowing that I'll never have flash on this thanks to the arm6 processor.

There is a thread in the port section of the Cyanogenmod forum. It started with a lame question but later a lot was discussed about gingerbread 2.3.4. There is a Chinese developer (Slax) who has been working on the rom. However, this rom does have a few issues.
I don't know Chinese and google translate is incomprehensible. You should be able to find all the links needed in the cyanogenmod forum.
here is the link.
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/21467-huawei-u8500/
for froyo try trial and error with all the official roms. if you don't like one change it. eventually you will find one that meets your need.

Dear bro,
This link doesn't work. Pls, help me with a active link.
Thanks in advance.
Hello XCoder, and all!
I try this steps, but i stopped after 4th step...
I get a boot logo, and the XP can't recognize droid, unknown device.
than the .bat file just wait for connection.
i try lot of drivers (original U8500, Original Android, and the SDK's driver too) and still "unknown Andoid device"
If i get out battery, take back, and standard Power On, the XP recognize the "Android Composite ADB" device, and bind the SD card, and CDROM image, and works perfectly.
but i can't upgrade in Standard Mode
can anyone have an idea, how i can access the Droid under Recovery Mode?
and all links of huaweidevice.com are unavailable
have new link?
regards, QSoft

[TUTORIAL] Transfer F180L (20s) to E975 (EUR10h/other) - working signal

Hi,
I was working on "reincarnation" of F180L (20s) to E975 (actually EUR10h) for the last few days and I didn't find one 100% usable topic.
I had either Korean symbols/language and working signal or my language (CZE, ENG) and no signal - so I decided to have "Czech language with working signal".
I got the phone to working state yesterday, after reading about tens of topics and downloading about 7 GB of ROMs/basebands etc. and about 3 days of trying, combining, flashing, drinking a lot ... water only etc.
I put many topics into this one and I will hope it will helps to someone else.
Phone infomation (original):
F180L with 20s FW
HowTo "reincarnate":
1) Get KDZ file you would like to use - Stock Firmwares:
Link: LG Optimus G [E975] Roms/Kernels/Mods & Tools/Root (Daily Update) or Google
2) Get this package:
Link: F180LtoE975 (FlashTool and Root APK)
I RECOMMEND TO INSTALL THESE FILES/DOING FLASH ON THE COMPUTER WITH WIN XP OR IN WIN XP MODE (UNDER WIN7/8) (I had still PROGRAM NOT RESPONDING in WIN7 64bit - even in compatibility mode)
3) Install all files (3) from "F180LtoE975/KDZ_SW/KDZ Flasher.zip" archive - B2CApp, LGUnitedMobileDriver and MSXML and extract dir "FlashTool.1.0.54"
4) Switch off the phone - connect to USB
5) Turn the mobile on in DOWNLOAD MODE - phone is off and connected to USB - you see battery icon - now HOLD BOTH VOLUME BUTTONS (+/-) and POWER BUTTON (it takes about 3 seconds, then release - I tried to time it well many times, so be patient )
6) Look in the DEVICE MANAGER (in XPMode you have to connect the phone through upper bar first) and there should be "LG something" in MODEMS (if you don't see it then there is probably problem with drivers/connection - try to check points 1-5 again)
7) Now you have:
- downloaded your KDZ
- installed drivers and extracted folder "FlashTool"
- connected phone and DOWNLOAD MODE on it's screen
- "LG something" in DEVICE MANAGER-MODEMS
8) WIN7: in "FlashTool" folder set Compatibility Mode for both EXE files to WinXP SP3 first:
WinXP/WinXP Mode: just run as writen below :
- now run "WindowsEnabler" and click on icon in tray - you have to see ON icon in tray
- next run "UpTestEX" and set flash to (check image "01" for sure):
!DON'T BE RECKLESS AND CHECK YOUR SETTINGS BEFORE CLICKING ANY BUTTON!
----- TYPE: 3GQCT
----- PHONE MODE: CS_EMERGENCY
----- SELECT KDZ FILE: <CHOOSE YOUR KDZ>
----- NORMAL WEB UPGRADE TEST
----- UPGRADE START
- CHOOSE: DIFFERENT COUNTRY and language <WHICH ONE YOU WANT>
9) Wait and pray :
- phone should restart itself near the end (about 95%) - !IF YOU ARE FLASHING THE PHONE IN WINDOWS XP MODE THEN YOU HAVE TO CONNECT PHONE AGAIN THROUGH THE UPPER BAR IN WINXPM!
- you should se something like "FLASH COMPLETE/SUCCESSFULL" and "FINISH"
- it took about 25 minutes to me to complete whole process
- I recommend to do a HARD RESET of the phone after flashing
----- HOLD VOLUME DOWN (-) AND HOME KEY - THEN PRESS AND HOLD POWER BUTTON
----- release the buttons when you see LG logo (or try different timing/holding/releasing power button)
----- with POWER BUTTON confirm (twice) the reset
10) After boot your "reincarnated" F180L to E975 comes the part what took me 97% ot time to successfull "reincarnation" - get the signal (now you have iPod
- in the phone enable UNKNOWN SOURCES (in SETTINGS-SECURITY) and USB DEBUGGING (in SETTINGS-DEVELOPER OPTIONS)
- connect the phone to USB - choose MTP and wait for the phone to connect (you should see him in "MY COMPUTER" as a device E975)
- from archive "F180LtoE975" (downloaded at point 2) extact folder "ROOT_OK" and copy "FramaRoot-1.6.1.apk" to SDCARD
- through file manager in the phone run that "FRAMAROOT.APK" file and ROOT your phone - only GANDALF works for me fine
- restart the phone and find and there should be added SUPERUSER in apps (if it's not then install some SuperUser app from Google Play (I am using this one)
- for sure you can install RootChecker
- next install CMW/TWRP- FreeGee works very well
11) Now you should have:
- phone with FW you choose (for example E975 EUR10h - check in SETTINGS-ABOUT PHONE)
- ROOT checked and working
- wrong baseband = no signal
12) Download this file:
Link: F180LtoE975_BB
13) Extract folder "BaseBandF180L_OK" (there was no problem in WIN7 with this procedure) and then:
- connect the phone to USB in MTL MODE and copy "BASEBAND.IMG" to SDCARD ROOT
- check "DEVICE MANAGER-ADB INTERFACE-LG "something"" (it should be OK - only if hou have installed drivers in WinXPMode and you are connecting the phone in WIN7 then you have to install those 3 files from point 2 and 3 above)
- so if you see ADB Interface for LG, you copied the IMG file to SDCARD and your phones ROOT is OK then ...
- just run "FLASH_BASEBAND.BAT" and wait for restart
- now you should be asked for PIN (if you use it ) and you should get a signal
Phone infomation (reincarnated):
E945 with EUR10h/<YOUR CHOICE> FW with F180L baseband + OK SIGNAL + ROOT + CWM/TWRP
Hope it is works ... thanks to all who made topics which I read a which helped me a lot.
Thanks for even a small donation ... if there will be any ... there will be more experiments.
Sorry for your trouble and long thread, but it took 10 mins max to do it. Don't know what guides you all are reading all over the internet.
Instead of all this, simplest is
1. Flash kdz 10x less than 1GB
2. wipe the phone
3. Root the phone
4. Use freegee to unlock and get cwm/twrp
5. Flash modem for f180
All this in 10 mins

I'm facing the same problem too. My phone went dead few days ago. Suspected on the battery problem. My wife accidently drop my phone at 1mtr height and suddenly my phone went dead.
At first i suspect softbrick. So i try to flash f180l kdz but failed due to error. After reading in thread i notice dat u cannot flash any kdz more than 1gb. So i downloaded hongkong kdz and succesfully flash my phone. But my phone still cannot switch on.
So wat i do is, i open the case and remove battery and put it back. After dat magically i can open it but no signal. So i root and then freegee and afterwards flash f180l modem.
Finally its working like charm now.

Its true as you wrote...
It looks easy and I found these steps too but:
- many KDZ links didnt work
- I wasnt sure to use freegee (and didnt try, cause there is chance of hard brick) - only CWM/TWRP without freegee and that "killed phone"
- I downloaded about 9 basebands/modems for F180 and only one has worked
- thats why I wrote it so detailed - and with own links and in the one topic
If anyone could please verify edge usability on his/her rom for f180, there seems to be a special kdz / baseband which unlocks international edge on korean(f180) device. I am in dare need of edge since my gprs network signal die out, where as edge signal prevails on my other device using same sim. Or if theres some other way to unlock edge i would be thankful

You need to unlock bootloader for recovery.
There is a very good post here about how to extract your modem iv done that to use the latest if you don't want to use Houston's.
You see everything you need already in here, no need to go out and search and get into trouble.

i flashed my f180l to e975 months ago..and bricked it several times..but i always find a way to restore it.
it seemed hardbricking is non existent anymore when flashing roms.
my phone is now an LS970 after flashing the miui rom..which is great.

Just flashing modem doesn't do anything to imei. It's the other partitions that do those things.

Never happened to me on my several phone's in 4 5 years.
It always the issue when the baseband.img is accompanied by few other files. Or if you flashed the baseband on wrong partition.

Problem flashing Indian KDZ image
Hi has any one been able to download and flash the Indian KDZ file E97510E_00.KDZ
which is provided here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2320817
I have downloaded the file 5-6 times but i am getting error while the Flasher unpacks the file.
I have been able to flash European KDZ on my Phone but not the indian one.
Anyone faced similar problem or has any solution would be very helpful.
Thanks for this detailed guide! I am a n00b to Android and found it perfect. Agree with OP that many links/files in other posts are dead and it's confusing. Good to have it all in one place. Thanks :good:

2) after converting the phone, can I use roms for lg e975 for this phone?

complete guide to update to bone stock 10m

I think many users have hard time to update from 10c to 10m if the phone was rooted with Purpledrake (with TWRP).
After I have done some trial, I find out rather safe and easy way to update.
There is another method to go right to 10m by flashing with Zone ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-g3/development/rom-zonerom-07-24-14-deodex-t2827304
However, if you would prefer bone stock right from LG, here is the instruction:
Prerequisites:
Download all required flash tool and stock 10c ROM from below (don't worry about drivers if you have PC Suite installed).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-g3/general/firmware-t-mobile-lg-g3-t2818667
LG PC Suite installed.
Latest 7Zip installed.
Phone battery should be 80% or more (this will be a very long process).
A micro USB cable.
A Windows computer.
PHASE 1
1. Extract flash tool and ROM with 7zip and locate the unpacked ROM.
2. Turn off the phone and take the battery out and put it back in. Press and hold volume up button when plug in USB cable to enter download mode.
3. Run the flash tool and flash in regular mode (no wipe). You will see another window and leave everything intact.
4. The phone will be flashed. Don't worry, your data will be OK.
PHASE 2
1. After the phone has been flashed, you will lose root. DO NOT root again until phase 4.
2. Run LG PC Suite and wait until the phone is recognized.
3. Click backup/restore tab and backup EVERYTHING. The phone will reboot in backup mode and wait until the process finishes. The phone will reboot after backup has finished.
4. Disconnect the phone.
(Optional but recommended) Copy everything from internal storage to host computer.
PHASE 3
1. Repeat step 2 in phase 1.
2. Run the flash tool again, but this time you will use CSE instead and the phone will be fully wiped except data in memory card.
3. You have to do same procedure as a new phone. It's recommended to setup Wi-Fi because Google will do restore the applications, but this is not enough.
PHASE 4
1. After the Google restoration has finished, you can update the ROM over the air (OTA).
2. Connect the phone and run LG PC Suite again. This time you will restore everything and it will reboot after restoration has finished. Copy the data back to the internal storage if necessary.
3. After the restoration, you can root your phone with your favorite method.
If everything goes well, you should be able to have rooted 10m with all data intact.

i was rooted stock with manual method(forgot to completely unzip purple drake)...used lg flash tool to flash back to unrooted stock 10c, updated, and used the unzipped purple drake to re-root...all told it took me maybe an hour(that's counting the 45 minute download of the update since i was on a craptacular wifi connection)...also...purple drake claims to not trip the rct, but it does
After rooting with Purpledrake (w/o the custom boot), I wanted to test clearing the root flag.
Originally I used the LG Mobile Support tool to reset to Stock v10c. It did take a little while because it downloads the software. At the time, 10c was what
was available. With the OTA out now, I wonder if this wouldn't download 10m, install it fresh, and get you to 10m stock unrooted (and then run Purpledrake)?
Another method I tried that was quick and easy, was ThePagel's method (similar to LGG3root.com's method in using the flashtool):
[Firmware] (Back to original untouched stock) T-Mobile LG G3 D851 + Flashing Guide
Wouldn't the first be alternative method to take you straight to 10m stock. The second back to 10c, allow for the OTA, and then re-root?

Root + twrp + bootloader unlock + twrp flashable stock rom - marhsmallow

If you are on Lollipop, this guide is NOT for you!
Almost none of this is my work, I just collect it and put it together in one place and I'm writing a small how-to get things done.
PLEASE ONLY PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!!!!!!
ONLY FOR ZX551ML
Bootloader unlock:
Currently the only way I was able to get ROOT on the phone was by installing it from TWRP which required an unlocked bootloader, so the first step is to get the bootloader unlocked, to do this please follow this steps:
1) Enable USB debugging - If you do not know what is that and how to do it, you should probably STOP right here.
2) Download and extract: Unlock 6_ZX551ML.ZIP
3) From the extracted folder run unlock.bat (This will restart your phone into fastboot mode, downgrade the bootloader and unlock it)
4) When step 3 is completed, you need to run restore.bat
If everything went on correctly your boot screen should be inverted (white background, black Asus text). This was the most risky part. I only have my phone and it worked, but if something goes wrong here you might end up bricking your phone, so please take extreme care, always read the messages on the screen!!!!!
Custom Recovery:
1) Now to get a custom recovery, please download TWRP-3.0.2-M1-Z00A.img.
2) Put your phone into bootloader mode, if your phone is currently in use, just use the following commands:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Alternatively you can power off the phone, remove the USB cable. Power it back on while holding the volume up button.
3) once your phone if in bootloader mode please use the following command:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery TWRP-3.0.2-M1-Z00A.img
4) Use the vol up & down to select "RECOVERY"
5) Use the power button (short press) to reboot to TWRP
ROOTING
1) Download BETA-SuperSU-v2.74-2-20160519174328-patch-by-shakalaca-for-zenfone2-6.0_(1).zip
2) In recovery select Advanced -> Sideload
3) From your computer use the following commands:
Code:
adb sideload "BETA-SuperSU-v2.74-2-20160519174328-patch-by-shakalaca-for-zenfone2-6.0_(1).zip"
4) Once it's completed installing, restart the phone to system
FLASHABLE STOCK ROM
If you have TWRP installed and you want to flash the latest stock ROM, you will need to, make sure you un-root your phone from the supersu app, reboot to recovery and sideload the zip. You can also copy the zip to your phone and install it from twrp. When installing the stock rom, your bootloader will be locked again, so you will need to unlock it (if you wish), also you will need to root again, because the root is lost. However the modified stock rom will NOT remove the custom recovery giving you freedom to flash whatever you like in the future...
XPOSED
Xposed on our device won't work if we have SuperSu installed. If you want to use Xposed modules you will need to use PHH's SuperUser instead. All files required for Xposed/Magisk/Phh's SuperUser are available in the Xposed folder.
Available modified stock rom versions:
UL-Z00A-WW-4.21.40.141-user-TWRP.zip - Updated: 2016-Oct-07
UL-Z00A-WW-4.21.40.197-user-TWRP.zip - Updated: 2016-Dec-16
Files can be downloaded from: here
Again, please proceed on your own risk.
Special tanks and credits to all the guys who made this possible, namely:
@sorg @social-design-concepts @shakalaca - For bootloader unlock
@jrior001 for the TWRP
@shakalaca - For the modified SuperSU package.

Yes I'm using Magisk, but even with it I wasn't able to use Google Pay. To get back to non inverted, you will need to flash the locked bootloader.

While essentially true the user can always use a different boot animation by flashing one via twrp. There might even be one somewhere of the unmodified asus screen.
Can anyone confirm the flashable Rom mentioned in Post #1 is MM 6.0.1? I ask because my phone upgraded itself right after I booted it up and I wondered if it was on a newer version than the downloadable one. Pretty sure the update was only security updates given it was only around 80mb.
The actuall boot screen is only a couple of seconds long while the boot animation shown

Well as usual the linux users drew the short straw. The shell script is for mac users. I decided to see about running the lines manually but never even reached the "danger zone". As soon as I did an "adb reboot bootloader" I followed up with "sudo fastboot devices" (some linux distro's need sudo..some don't)....and nothing shows up although I can clearly see the device is hooked up and in fastboot mode as well as the fact the adb reboot bootloader worked. I swap out one of my other devices and check things...they show up fine in fastboot....ok...so what's missing from this picture?
*update* solved by updating the ubuntu adb and fastboot binaries from here: https://github.com/simmac/minimal_adb_fastboot/tree/master/linux
*update2* bootloader unlocked, supersu flashed and verified. Much appreciated.
I ran the bootloader unlock and it appeared to work. Now it keeps booting back into the bootloader. I can't seem to get it to boot normal. Suggestions?
Nevermind, I didn't realize that I needed to run restore.bat while still in the bootloader. It is booting now! I was able to follow your guide and it is now rooted.
Regarding the marshmallow zip you include. I have a couple questions.
- For the modified stock version that will keep the recovery do I just need to flash it from recovery?
- Do I need to unroot before flashing this modified stock marshmallow?
Thanks!

Regarding the zip, yes flash from recovery and you don't need to unroot before, but you will need to root after flashing.
However I do suggest you make a backup before flashing jsut in case....

I'm assuming the file is just for folks who are on lollipop who want to upgrade? Didn't see any need to flash it since already on 6.0.1 and have it rooted...unless I'm missing something again.
I read this after I went to 6.0.1 from Asus's manual download and update process. I can't get ADB to connect in the OS (developer mode never displays, even though it tells me I'm a developer after doing kernel ver. button process). I tried to get adb devices -l in fastboot and recovery, and it wont discover it. I've tried multiple windows drivers (including the one that worked when I flashed the firmware the first time) to no avail. Any ideas?

If windows doesn't see the phone when in recovery there is something wrong, this can be:
1) Wrong driver
2) Damaged USB cable
3) Damaged USB port.
When you are in recovery you should see the phone with adbm if you are in fastboot you should see the phone with:
Code:
fastboot devices
If nothing works you have the nuclear option.
Manually download the original firmware from Asus website: https://www.asus.com/support/Download/39/1/0/26/BXbNqJplzZiLmk6G/32/
copy the zip to an Sd card.
1) Now Turn Off your phone and boot into recovery mode by pressing Power+Volume UP.
2) Now in recovery mode choose to apply update from sdcard.
3) Now select the zip file.
4) Now wait until the process complete and then Reboot the phone.
5) Done!

More or less true, but somehow I was on a 6.0.1 version which is now gone from the firmware list of Zenfone, meaning I have updated from 6.0.1 to 6.0.1
Again now I see there is a new firmware released yesterday if I have the time I will patch that system image as well so it can be upgraded with TWRP.

Actually most if them can be. Here is a print screen of the ones I have disabled on my phone hover I have a zenpad z380c which I use as my car dashboard and on that one o have disabled almost of all of the apps, except zenhome, audio manager and the file manager.

I'm actually enjoying mobile managers auto startup managing...it's done a good job of keeping 10000 things from running at startup that don't need to although "Startup Manager" would do a similar job for free. I'm liking the zenui launcher and calling screen so don't want to break anything related to that...the phone's been performing exceptionally well for days on end with no required reboots. Been very impressed. Previously been fighting with a T-mobile V10 and an Alcatel Idol 3...the v10 had spontaneous reboots...the idol had a stock rom with a bunch of lag in it....tiny to nothing development on both of those.
What about Zentalk, ZenChoice, PhotoCollage, MyAsus Service center, Clean Master, Audiowizard and Bug Reporter?

I use tasker for that, but yes I agree as a whole is not bad, this is my 4rd Asus product (Zenfone 4, Zenfone 2, Zoom and Zenpad) and overall I'm quite impressed with how they perform, just the support from Asus isn't really the top of the cream... they released MM when other were releasing N... so yeah a bit of sour taste, otherwise happy. And the camera, I think it's brilliant, not the best on the market, but the optical zoom is cool, as well as the camera app which allows you to do some nice manual shooting.

I listed a few apps in my previous post I wondered if you had looked at..it was a last minute addition so you may have missed it. I own tasker...I'm unaware of using it to stop tasks from running at bootup although I have used it to MAKE some apps run after "Boot Completed".

Generally tasker can be used for almost anything.... but I'm doing most of the thing with root+shell scripts, but yes nothing wrong with the app provided by Asus. I think everybody uses the setup/software he/she is most comfortable using... and there is no right or wrong.... that's until you are NOT and iCrap user, because that is the ultimate WRONG! )

Well from the lack of posts it appears you and I ARE the zenfone zoom community. Any idea where the system updates get stored after downloading? I thought in /cache based on regular zenfone posts but was unable to see it. I've got one available but it has to be modified for twrp compatibility as well as unrooting temporarily.

[GUIDE] Official updates on a M2 tablet with root/changed recovery

Official updates for our M2 tablet,
although having installed another
recovery and root access, already.
- Disclaimer
Well, whatever you do with this guide is all up to you and in your own responsibility. You
should have basic knowledge about ADB and flashing, which is explained in many other
threads here on our beloved XDA.
- Issue
When you used this guide (https://goo.gl/r04XjJ) or any other one to give your M2 tablet
another recovery and therefore root rights, you have now the problem, that EMUI will show
you new updates, but you are not able to install them, because of the missing stock recovery,
of course.
- Solution
So, you have to flash back the original stock recovery, getting the official update and then you
can flash back your TWRP recovery.
- Guide
1. You should start your EMUI update programme/app and start the download of your update.
When it is finished, it will ask you to reboot into recovery and install automatically. As you have
no stock recovery I strongly advise not to do so. Usually nothing happens, but there is one case
reported, where it somehow ****ed up the guy's tablet. I am not sure, if that story is true, but
well, I have warned you.
2. Just turn your tablet off after you have finished downloading the update (it will wait now in
the directory "HwOUC" on your tablet and it is called "update.zip" - just let it sleep there).
3. Start the tablet in the fastboot recovery mode, meaning plugging in the USB cable (connected
to the computer) and hold the buttons "power" and "volume down", immediately, until a white
screen appears, which is the fastboot recovery screen. It should tell you, it has the bootloader
unlocked, which is normal, because you did that earlier on with any of the other guides (see above).
4. Copy the downloaded stock recovery of your choice to your ADB directory. In my case this is
"c:\ADB", but this depends on your way of installation.
5. Now open up a command line in Windows (with Windows key + R) and type "cmd") and go to
your ADB directory, using commands like "cd .." and "cd adb".
6. When having arrived in the ADB directory, you have to enter these commands one after the other:
fastboot flash recovery stock-recovery.img
fastboot reboot
If you renamed the recovery file, then you have to consider that in the command, of course.
7. The device will reboot directly into the recovery, because it "sees" the update in the update
directory et voila ... you are getting your awaited update. Sometimes it will boot not into the EMUI
recovery directly, but then you hast have to start the tablet normally, open up the EMUI app and
download the update again and do the OTA update properly with the reboot it tells you to do,
when it is finished.
8. Okay, now you have received your update, but if you want to have back your TWRP, you just
have to turn off your tablet and boot into the fastboot recovery again (see 3.).
9. You have to copy your TWRP recovery to your ADB directory (in my case "twrp.img" in "c:\ADB").
10. Now open up a command line in Windows (with Windows key + R and type "cmd") and go to
your ADB directory, using commands like "cd .." and "cd adb".
11. When having arrived in the ADB directory, you have to enter these commands one after the other:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
fastboot reboot
12. The tablet will reboot and you are back to a working lovely updated M2 tablet.
- Root:
If you want to have root rights, I strongly recommend flashing Magisk within TWRP, because it is
just a nice and more modern approach to having root. It works very fine on my M2 10 tablet. The
link for the files and guide is here:
https://goo.gl/UXYk4d
It is very easy. You just flash Magisk 12 in TWRP and then install the Magisk Manager app from the
Play store.
- Files for M2-802L and M2-A01L:
https://ufile.io/0df492 (all four recoveries here)
https://files.fm/u/aajdmadr (all four recoveries here)
https://www.file-upload.net/download-12438839/HuaweiM2recoveries.rar.html (all four recoveries here)
Have fun with your updated tablet. ... and I am happy, if I could help you - any coffee appreciated.

Additionally, I can offer you the updates B007 and B010 (most current one) for the
M2 10 LTE (M2-A01L), because I managed to save them/back them up. These are the
European versions of B007 and B010 with all language files, I believe.
So, who is having a M2-A01L and is still sitting on B006 or B007, might try a manual
update, which is as easy as pie. It is just one simple step.
Also, an update from B009 to B010 might be possible.
Of course, I cannot give any guarantee for Huawei's update files, which you will
understand, I guess.
what android version ?? M2-801L, thanks

M2-A01L, not M2-801L. For all 8 models you find your ROMs here:

I'd greatly appreciate it, if you could share. Got the problem that my A-01L got corrupted. The only official ROM I've been able to find has been B005 what is somewhat old. As it seems to be a pre-release version the tablet doesn't find any updates. Thus I'd like to try to upgrade to B007, or even B010 manually when I'm back home. Currently I'm on a weekend trip as friends of mine are going to marry tomorrow. Thus I'd be able to download them on Sunday evening if you'd provide them.

Tried Magisk but can't pass Safetinet test even with Magisk hide enable...
is it working for you?

I have Magisk running on several devices, including the M2-A01L, but I must admit,
I never got the Safetynet passed, even with Magisk hide enabled.
I just use it as systemless root and with systemless Xposed, which is great.

After enabling magisk hide, you have to reboot your device. Got the 801L working with that and safetynet passes.
Noob Question on recovery files
Hi, and thanks for a incredible well detailed guide for updating. Came here because I haven't found any good recovery files for the wifi model. I've been trying (unsuccessfully may I add...) to install TWRP and magisk. So, my question is: can the recovery files for the LTE model be used on the wifi model? (M2-A01w). Thanks for your help!

Sorry, I have been on vacation.
To be honest, I am not sure, if the recovery for M2-A01L works on M2-A01w, too, but you can just try it.
I think, there should not be that big a problem, because the recovery has nothing to do with Wi-Fi or LTE, at all. It is just important, that partition tables and drives are accessible the same way and well, I really think, there is not much difference in between the M2 10 models.
From M2 8 to 10 there is a difference, of course. That is why I uploaded both recoveries (for 802L and A01L).
Just use that guide (https://forum.xda-developers.com/mediapad-m2/how-to/guide-unlock-bootlader-twrp-root-huawei-t3322340) without the SuperSU flashing and my recoveries in this guide.
Hi guys,
I need help, I have a M2 10 LTE previously modded with TWRP for root and I've just followed this guide to update from 007 to 010 version.
So I've flashed the stock-recovery, rebooted the tablet, requested the firmware update (I don't know if I got any error during the process) and the tablet has rebooted. Now it's stuck on HUAWEI logo..
I use this tablet for work so I really need to recover it asap.
Please help.

Could upload the B010 fullstock ROM/firmware. Thus you could reset the device to the latest stock ROM using the /dload method and gain a factory rested Huawei, as if out of the box. Just quote me if you'd want me to upload and I'll share the link asap. Took that way myself as soon as I found the full stock ROM.
