What the Difference between paid and free app - Design, Prototyping, UI, Graphics

Hi all.
Ive created a theme for GO Locker. There was nothing difficult but! i've faced a very strange problem!
I have two vertions of the theme. They are just the same except of color. The blue one is free. Ive published
it on Play market long ago and it works. And the red one is paid. As I've already said the
difference only in color of the pictures. The have absolutely identical structure, and the manifest file
is also the same except the name etc of course. I've published it on Play market as paid app
Ive tested my apps many different ways. Using Android emulators, using real phones with diferent veriosn fo android.
And everything workes fine!. But sudenly ive discovered that paid version after installation from Play market
says that file is broken or wrong!. Why? WTF!! So i've decided to explore the problem
I've just made my paid app free! And installed it again from Play marked. And it worked!
So what is the problem? What ive missed? I dont use any special features like in app purchase etc.
So what? Why while my app is paid it doesnt work, but after making it free it works?

Where are you from ? Do you have merchant account? Maybe your country does not support paid app publishing.

Yes I have everything necessory. I used the same keystore for both can it be the reason?

Possibly

I got the same thought as macaronlover. I published FREE and PAID versions on Google Play but with different keystores. They are working well. I am not sure you are allowed to change your keystore once you published your app on Google Play store.

According to me there is not a big deal, whether you launch your app as paid or free. May be you should be mailed to Google's Play store to find out the exactly problem behind this issue. It may be that Google's some filter has created the problem.

[Q] Android Market: What is your Market version?

Today I found this news:
http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2010/10/android-market-new-country-roll-out.html
In particular:
"For users to make a purchase of paid apps in these countries, they must have the latest Android Market client, which we have started to make available as a self-update and should reach all users within the next few days. This is a silent update; users will not see a notification and will not be prompted to do anything."
Then I found this:
http://market.android.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=190860
And its say the latest market version is 2.07..I tried that procedure, but why my Market version is just 1.82?
So I'm curious to know what is your market version on the Desire?
****EDIT 22 Nov****: Market version is now 2.12!
No one interested on Market updates?
Mine says 1.82 as well, Debranded WWE FroYo.

Mine says exactly the same, but I am able to see paid apps also so why is the update for. I am trying to update it as the link you sent but seems not to work
No, it doesn't seem to work. Seems an odd way to make an app update itself too.

Edit again.
--------- this reason is invalid--------
Edit: I figured out what this update does. Those on 1.8 with paid apps AND in countries which has JUST gotten paid apps only have a top free and just in tab. This one adds top paid. (compared to my friends x10 mini). U can see paid apps in 1.8 but can't see top paid.

I am on 1.82 and can see top paid top free and just in. So I dont think that is what the update really does.
Must be my friend's x10 then.
But wait... are you from one of the countries that JUST got paid apps? There's a reason why I capitalized the AND. Because the market update was intended by Google to allow those in other countries to get paid apps. So those in countries like mine would get it first, I assume.

Should I revert back?

I can't seem to find it in the market, on my Archos. In fact, there are loads of apps I can't seem to find that others are finding just fine, free apps as well as paid. Have done the whole "market fix" thing several times, but no joy. Am accessing the market in UK. Any other fixes people have tried.

Remove Amazon App Store and keep apps?

Not sure that I like the Amazon App store running all the time.
While I like the free apps they give away, it requires you to have the appstore on your device.
Any way discovered to remove the appstore and still use the apps?
I don't have the amazon app store. (Not sure I want it now!!) I seem to always read the posts about whatever they gave away for free the next day!
Anyways... Just thinking here- What if you either back up the apk for whatever app you want to save on your PC? or Maybe try backing it up with titanium, then uninstalling amazon (I assume your "freebies" would go bye bye at this point too) and then restore them?
Love to know if this works or if you figure out a viable solution! Good luck...
Nope. The APKs have DRM in them that connects to the Amazon app, which then checks with Amazon to make sure you're authorized to have that app and run it. You're SOL unless you want to unpack and hack each and every app and its update.
Apparently it's up to the app maker whether or not they want to have the DRM, but all of the free-app-of-the-day's have had this DRM.
Blah, that sucks.
Don't know if I like to have Amazon App store on my phone.....
What's the big deal with having it installed? Seems like a small price to pay for the paid app giveaway. Granted, it takes a couple megs of storage, but other than that I don't see all that big a problem.
yeah really, imigine if you weren't rooted youd have tons more apps you can not get rid. Amazon wants to give away apps every day hecks yeah i'll keep their app
I've had the Amazon app since it came out, and cannot notice a difference in performance or battery life.

If it causes battery drainage, try freezing the amazon app via TB and see if the free app still works?

I can live with the Amazon app store. I have been getting the free apps since Angry Birds. I have a lot of apps. I use it to store the apps until I find a use for them or download into a different device. It also is the only way you can get app updates.

+1 on that. I was initially hesitant to keep amazon app store. I realized it aint a big deal keeping it there. It gets me some of the paid apps for free that i really want... and also provides updates. i think its totally worth it.... even more if you play games on your phone coz most of the featured apps are games.
I like the amazon appstore for the free apps and also because you can load the free apps on more than one device. My wife has a rooted Nook Color and I put the amazon appstore on there, now she can have the same games on her phone and the Nook Color.
I still use the official Android Market when I actually buy an app though.
Is this the Amazon MP3 store? I tried to look for it in the App Market but I have no idea what it looks like lol.

You're not gonna find it on the android market, it's a direct competitor to the android market made by Amazon. The reason they're giving away a paid app for free every day is to try and build a userbase and lure people away from the android market. A lot of the paid apps on there are also less expensive than the same apps on the Android Market.
You can find it here: http://www.amazon.com/mobile-apps/b?ie=UTF8&node=2350149011
Wish there was a fix...all of my valid apps from them continue to tell me I need to reinstall (Guess the validity check has failed?)

Install Cerberus anti-theft if you are rooted, I have it installed and set up to survive formats and it even survives ROM flashes, and can be set up to be uninstallable from play store, and even be hidden from the app drawer and accessed through a dial code And it has an awesome array of nifty features in the Pro version, at only £3.49 I believe.
Edit, nevermind It is a paid app by default but you get a full week trial.

Then you aren't going to get nearly as good protection, if you don't wanna fork out a measly four bucks, which is a one time payment and is cheaper than a monthly payment for insurance, it's your loss, for about $4, it is the best app I have ever purchased, especially with all the options available at my disposal should the phone be stolen/lost.

Package disabler pro works for me on my note 10. It's not available in the play store and hasnt been for some time. I purchased it directly from the dev site. Believe its 3.00 usd. Just installed it today and it works perfectly, even after the new software update
Devs behind Package Disabler Pro are scam artists. The apps work, but they are always deleting them then releasing a new version a few weeks later. Usually after a new phone comes out.
They've probably done this 5-6 times since I got the my first app from them. I asked them about giving me a license since I already paid, and they basically told me it's Samsung's fault it gets removed and I have to pay again to make up for the trouble.

Wait, so you need a PC in order to disable or enable an app through adb but yet you can't picture a use case for apps like package disabler pro?
What about apps you don't use often? Isn't it better to disable them until you need to use them so android don't have them running in the background for no reason?
So what if you're using a different launcher than the stock launcher wouldn't it make sense to disable stock launcher until you need it?

I don't think you even need package disabler for that, you can just go into developer options and disable auto update from there. Or in package disabler in system apps you should see one that is called "update" or something like that.

Actually it's Samsung that requests that Google block the app in the playstore. They plainly tell you to buy it from their website because that way Samsung or Google can't block it. So instead of paying 5-6 times why didn't just buy it from their website once?

No need to get defensive. It is better to disable so android isn't running them in the background, I just can't think of an app I'd ever need to enable/disable on the fly. Certainly not the stock launcher, that can stay permanently disabled.

If you read reviews about them, they are notorious for doing what I said. Not once did they ever tell me I could get the app directly from them by the way, it's always been to rebuy it from the app store. They don't list a website on the play store and the email address is where they told me to keep rebuying it in the play store
Not to mention, they always name it the same thing. I can't for a minute believe that google keeps allowing them to re-upload the app with the same name over and over again if Samsung is getting it removed. lol.
yes, let us just keep covering for shady companies who find a way to force additional sales of their product through "forced" rebuys.

Not defensive/aggressive in the slightest. It's just that I use it all the time and I disable pretty much every app I'm not currently using as in every app gets disabled until I need it, with a few exceptions. Android/Google/Samsung services are not killing my battery in the background. But to each his own.

So you are saying they also made you pay twice? I still wouldn't be happy with that. I paid for the license, it's not my fault Samsung got their app removed. I'd have to dig, but I have the emails where they told me I had to pay again because of Samsung causing them trouble. They could easily issue a code to let me claim the license I already paid for.
I don't think they really want website sales, but will take them as a last ditch effort. Can't claim Samsung made you delete it off your own website.
If they wanted the sales on their website, then they would have their website listed on google play. Then someone like me who searches for the app like today, where it doesn't exist again, could look at one of their other apps and find my way to buy it.
For what it's worth, they do the same thing with the LG version of the app. They delete it at least once a year then release it again. Not sure what excuse they use on that one.
Edit: I will give them one last chance, I sent them an email again to see if they would make good. See if things have changed.
How about a list of apps people have removed successfully without issues.

This is definitely true. I have been re-buying this app almost every time I get a new samsung phone (been upgrading every 6 months to S and Note series since the Note 5/7/S7 Edge, so that is at least 10 different devices. I am pretty sure I have re-bought it every time! However I have always used google opinion rewards money so it was basically free for me, now that they only sell the working version on their site I am done with them.
