[Q] Vibration suddenly doesn't work - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Yesterday I noticed my Haptic feedback wasn't working. I tried ticking every setting and seeing if I could find what turned it off. Doesn't work when I receive a text, a call, or even when the alarm goes off. So I downloaded a vibrator app and it doesn't work. Suggestions? Halp?

+1 I've been having the same issue. Running ViperOne At&t with ElementalX.

I'm on ViperOne 1.8 but stock kernel.

Hmm so it's not a kernel issue then. Even when I boot up the phone there's no vibration that usually indicates the boot up. Even in TWRP I don't get any feedback when selecting options. Faulty motor?

Do you have quiet hours turned on I've seen it keep haptic off even if its not the specified hours

I don't use quite hours.

OK but just check its not turned off in quiet hours as it can affect it even if your not using it

Checked it out and it's been off this whole time. Even in Recovery Mode it doesn't vibrate as normally. Will try installing a new rom today.

How long as your issue been going on? Where did you get your device? I'm wondering if it was a production issue.

I got my device from an At&t authorized seller about a month or so ago. The feedback occasionally does come back for a few seconds before dying off again. Very odd. I haven't tried flashing a new rom but I did a factory reset yielding no results.

Guess I'm gonna need to take the HTC advantage.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk

Did you ever flash a new Rom?

No I just made a back up and noticed it wasn't working on twrp.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk

Hmm I'll try flashing another ROM today and if that doesn't work, I'll have to unroot, which is totes lame.

I installed PA Alpha 1 with Furance OC kernel. Bought the Faux Clock app so I can **** with the kernel settings and no go. Looks like I gotta look into making my device look completely stock and get it sent into HTC..

Oh wow. So it seems its a hardware issue. Oh well guess only option is to unroot.

LOL just that unrooting seems like a bit of a tedious process. And I don't really have access to a windows pc, since the program is a windows one. Oh well, I'm just wondering if this is a common occurrence amongst other M8 owners or just happenstance.

Well. You can just take it to the warranty department. My only thing I think they would trip about is the red text screen. I'm gonna s off and fix that tomorrow.
Sent from my One M8 using Tapatalk

My M8 hasn't had this issue...
However, the LG G2 I had a few months back did. It worked great one day, and had no vibration the next.
I wonder if smartphone companies are just buying cheap vibration motors nowadays to save cost, and the cheap motors blow out easy or defect often.

[Q] evo 4g is failing on me

ok guys ive just about had enuff of my evo from all these reboots...it reboots when im texting or surfing the web or on a phone call or using the gps...ive tried everything from flashing different roms to doing a complete wipe with partitioning sdcard. ive ran out of options on this phone..i am thinking of getting a 3D off contract since my upgrade is not till sep. but if i do get the 3d do i still have to unroot my evo or na since this is will b my first upgrade with sprint.....i do want to get the evo LTE tho as my upgrade...either way idk what do to about this situation
Sprint won't even check. If you have insurance, use it. Sounds like a hardware problem. Do yourself a favor and don't get the 3d. Terrible phone. Better off finding a crappy flip phone til the EVO LTE launches. Just curious, did you used to overclock your phone?

I think that before you throw in the towel completely, you should run the RUU for your phone and start over. not sure what base your stock was (I never upgraded mine, ever and have the stock/rooted ROM still), but I think you did the right thing in reformatting your SD Card, but you should have gone the next step and ran the RUU, then just left it stock for a day to see if the problems persisted or not

How long have you had the phone. My EVO did that to me, then it started overheating and boot looping. I called HTC and they fixed it for free. I was rooted S-OFF running FRESH Rom when I shipped it out. They kindly unrooted it for me before it shipped back but no problem there LOL

Depending on the battery, there's some reports of the connection not sitting exactly right, and any little movement or what not will cause relentless reboots.
Saw it in the Amazon reviews for the extended battery I bought a while back, but it turned out my reboots were unrelated unfortunately Haha.

Bricked, or Broken?

I've had a G2 for a couple of years now that hasn't been working. I've exchanged batteries, but cannot get anything to boot. The phone was having problems with freezing prior to the supposed brick, and the phone is completely stock.
As of now, I have it plugged in via USB and I didn't hear any sort of notification that the computer even recognizes the phone, my other android phones will get picked up with the power off.
Long story short, is there a way to get into "upgrade mode", or something similar that HTC might have? Something from ADB that could trigger the phone to power on in the hardware doesn't power on itself?
Thanks.
EDIT: The charge LED does NOT come on while plugged on to the charger.

Stupid thing has water damage..the VOID sticker wasn't where it was supposed to be, but I saw some pink residue from the sticker. I'm gonna take it to see if I can get it fixed. I believe it's worth it, it isn't the first batch of G2's, it was one of the warranty replacements that didn't have those weird issues.
Take a multi meter to the contacts with the phone open. See if any power is getting through.

Bought the SII on eBay for Cheap - Little Problem

Hi guys,
I just purchased a Samsung Galaxy SII on eBay. I decided to take the plunge even though the seller said it was for "parts and not working". He said the problem he was having was that the phone would shut off by itself, no matter what he did. He said this happened maybe once every 10 times he pressed the sleep button.
I got it yesterday and started messing around with it. I haven't encountered the problem yet but I only used it for a few hours. I proceeded to successfully root the device and flashed a custom ROM (CyanogenMod 10 - JB 4.1.1) and it seems to work ok. I'm not using the phone yet and I guess I was just wondering if you think the problem may have just "gone away". If it did, I would feel very lucky. I won't know for sure until I start using the phone regularly, but I needed a reliable phone today at work and that's why I didn't bring it with.
Any thoughts on what could cause this issue and possible solutions are appreciated. I've read some people say it's related to the CPU or the button itself, or perhaps even the battery. The owner had never rooted the phone so he was just running the regular T-Mobile Gingerbread rom.
Thanks and Happy Friday!
Probably the power button problem

Thanks for answering, Teo. If it's that, it should be fairly simple to fix. I'll report back just in case somebody is having the same issue.
Since the JB ROM's suffer from random restarts and sleep of death issues, I would recommend flashing an ICS ROM. This will get you a more stable environment for testing, so if the device suddenly shuts it self off, you'll know it's not the ROM.

+1 to this suggestion. Flash a ROM that is known to be stable so you can confirm the original issue. I'd suggest stock (gb or ics, doesn't matter) for the best test environment.

I bought it used on eBay, I'm not the original owner. And I didn't see the SquareTrade warranty option for this purchase, perhaps because it was under "For parts & not working". I haven't come across the problem yet. I have flashed a few different roms (ICS) but every one of them has given me some type of problem. I'm still using my very reliable myTouch 4G and I'm starting to doubt if I really want to dump it for the SII.

It has inadvertently turned off data use. Mine did the same thing. Flip it into airplane mode, flip it off. I hope the bugs I am finding get fixed along with signal and battery life.
I've unlocked mine and some icon's have randomly moved screens. Not sure whats up with that.
Also today on my drive home I got the wonderful Droid DNA faint ringing thing (Google it). I'm assuming it was a temp warning? as the phone was warm since I was using google maps, streaming pandora, and taking some pictures of the sights every once in a while, all while it was plugged into the car charger.
Annoying thing is it wasn't just out of the handset. the constant faint ringing goes through bluetooth audio also so my pandora and navigation CONSTANTLY has this stupid ringing going on.
I disabled fastboot and shut it down when I got on a road that I needed to stay one for 100+ miles to cool off, powered back on and didn't do as much at the same time (Switched to my iPad to stream pandora) and it seemed to work fine for the next 5 hours. still not doing it as of now.
Anyone have anymore info on that faint ringing?
Wondering if this is a bug or just not something the ONE is capable of.
Focusing well, especially in Macro Mode. My previous HTC phones focused as close as 2 or 3 inches. My ONE has to be at least 8+ to focus.

Does anybody else have an issue with their m8 where on occasion it gets stuck showing its charging after unplugging? It doesn't happen all the time , and a reboot fixes it, but I'm planning to send mine in. Just curious if mine is buggy or if it's a known issue.
