Mi Band: Xiaomi's fitness smart wristband - General Accessories

I'm not sure whether the right forum to post this thread.
Does anybody know about the new wristband that Xiaomi launched yesterday?

You won't see any screen on it, even no LED screen to show the time.
But it doesn't mean Mi Band is bland or worthless. I think it's quite powerful.:good:
- Unlock your phone via bluetooth without passcode (using BLE)
- Fitness monitor: track various health metrics and sync with your phone
- Sleep tracker and smart alarm: vibrate to wake you up during light sleep
- Notification: vibrate and flicker when you receive a new SMS or call
- Waterproof with the rating of IP67: you can wear it when showering
- 30 days standby when full charged
And the most awesome thing is, it's very cheap: only $13! It must be one of the cheapest smart band on the market.
But there are some cons:
No screen. However this makes the battery life longer.
It's only compatible with Mi 3 or Mi 4 with Android 4.4 based MIUI (It's the worst thing! )
Any ideas about Mi Band? Will you buy one if you had a Mi 3 or Mi 4?
Useful additions for Mi Band

Unlock and call reminder features are only for Xiaomi phones, is that right?
And how about whole wristband, does it work work on "normal" Android phone? My common sense telling me that it should - there is no restriction, it is just a bluetooth transmission. But maybe I'm wrong?

This looks brilliant. I was actually researching BLE technology and considering making something like this to unlock my phone. Seems I don't have to, at least if Xiaomi makes it support other devices.

I think it should work on other Android phones, but it couldn't, Even the older Xiaomi phone's like Mi 2S is not compatible.
Xiaomi is too "closed" now. Xiaomi will lose many potential customers if they keep doing that.

Yeah...I hope the next generation (Mi Band 2?) can support more devices.

Xiaomi is following Sammy's footstep, trying to get new customers by releasing phone specific gadgets. The only difference with Gear - that one got rooted, but with something as simple as smartband - most likely it will be locked to their phone. The same as they announced before about release of MI pressy-clones. Also, you have to realize that $13 is heavily subsidized price, they are giving it away at the cost or maybe below the cost, just so they can get new MI customers. Similar to what Amazon does with their tablets (hoping to get more Amazon shopping customers) or Google did with Nexus 7 (trying to jump start Android tablet business to take away share from iOS).

I heard a rumor that the cost of Mi Band is only CN¥ 49 (about $8.5)

i think in europe it will cost triple

where have people pre-ordered this from?

It starting to show up on websites that sell xiaomi and even aliexpress (although the price is higher than announced, but still a good deal considering).
Im just wondering, this does work with other android phones or just with xiaomi? Anyone knows yet? Its still new, so there probably isn't much info on that yet

It is supposed to work only with mi3 and 4 but I guess it shouldn't be difficult to make it work with any Android gadget as it works with bluetooth

HTCMania discussed in that it can be used with any Android, a user has been tested with a Nexus5 ... I have installed the apk without problems, but this in Chino, hopefully soon be translated into Spanish or English.
They have the apk file, but being new I can not put link.

Good to know!
We will probably start seeing more development on these as they start to get to more people.
But the function that it was to unlock/remove pin or pattern when you grab the phone/close to the hand with the bracelet probably won't work, right? Unless someone comes out with an android mod that will allow that.
Still, as a fitness tracker you can't beat the price

When in stock?

Hi!
This is the official link of the MiBand app -> http://m.app.mi.com/#page=detail&id=68548
And here is the apk modified by myself, I only changed a word so now the app will show you in english (if not, it will show in chinese by default). There are only a few sentences in english but Im going to try to translate more.

Does anybody have one? What are your thoughts? Does it work well with the Evo?
i read some feedback from people in europe who have them already as well as people who bought from europe and had em shipped here (wasn't on this forum) and unfortunately all the feedback was negative..people said the device has all kinds of issues right now with not staying paired with bluetooth and other random stuff...
kind of a bummer because i really wanted one until i read the reviews...hopefully they make it better with future updates and hopefully when they do that they'll release it in the US...the device looks like it has so much potential, would be a shame if it went to waste..

I have the device, and although it has a lot of potential, SE f*cked up. Connections are unstable and without a stable connection the device is useless. The firmware can't be updated, so thats, that.
the firmware can't be updated? are u sure?
that blows! gg SE
I've got one now boxed up and ready to go back. Problems... won't stay paired, locks up, battery only last a day, not a true touch screen, no built in clock, easily falls off wrist band, not firmwear updateable....
Great idea, terrible implementation
I also have their older traditional bluetooth watch which is solid as a rock and looks "normal".
i heard an update was suppose to come out in january.. any better after the update?
I did the latest firmware update and I would say that 90% of problems are fixed. My device stays connected and now has up to 30plugins instead of just 5 - lol!
It is my daily watch and it really inst sensitive to water as i have accidentally done dishes with it on!
It is very useful for business or prosumer crowd. People who get a lot of emails, calls, etc but do not want to be rude and constantly having a hand on the phone or Bluetooth in their ear.
Go for it, best watch for the money IMO!
Hi, just got one, charging it now - can you tell me best apps?
cheers.

awesome, thanks for the info .. think i'm gonna go ahead and order one
Question, for the people that have this. what ROM are you using? i'm using it with mikFroyo v4.6 and i have a hard time keeping the bluetooth connection going. i have to constantly turn off bluetooth and turn it back on. I already removed liveview manager which caused other problems, and i did update the liveview to the latest version.
thanks

Same issue even after the update on CM7. So I don't use it much
It looks cool but I would rather just mess with my phone instead. I think it would be just as rude to be checking your watch every so often as it would be to check your phone......just saying
Genuinely pissed off with sony
So TODAY. I pop the watch off of the band like normal and a PIECE OF PLASTIC popped clean off. I calmly explained and sent several pictures of what it was. there is no other damage (not even scratches) to the Device. I explain how it is a cleave in the plastic because it was not properly tempered and mixed, just something that happens because of factory defects. I also explain a bit of how I know this and some good common examples.
Here is the picture that shows the damage the best:
Now companies like HTC, Motorola, and Apple recognize mechanical defects and fix them. If this was purposeful damage, more would be damaged and something would be every scratched instead of a piece of plastic with a clean cleave.
This is the quoted response from Sony-Ericsson:

This "damage" is a materials defect. Honestly I cannot wait to hear how they justify this and sent them another email. 3 months of use popping it on and off to charge only. Screw Sony at this point. The whole Geohot thing, their lawsuits have been everywhere, phones come out a year or two too late, have terrible software support, and quality has gone extremely wayside. Sorry, just when you think they are going to do something worthy of the Sony from 20 years ago you quickly find out that it is the same cheap Chinese crap with a japanese label they switched to 18 years ago.
Maybe we should all fill out their survey. Even though a couple XDA members are working on fixes, I'm still PO'd about the display and battery in my MBW-150 and SE's refusal to repair or even provide part numbers.
Just a toy
I brought it from ebay just for $20 bucks only. It is not a good practice since you will find at least 5 defectives after using it for 2 hours.
However, it is a good try and I believe a real smart watch is coming very soon later this year.
This thing is awesome! And sony just opened up dev. And a solar watch strap will keep it running forever.

Android 4.4, KitKat !

Hello,
Has anybody seen the announcement ?

It seems that Key Lime Pie was not the favorite dessert for Google.
It's our goal with Android KitKat to make an amazing Android experience available for everybody.

So basically they say: We want to make sure Android has an amazing experience on all devices.
AKA: Performance optimization, less RAM usage by system, faster app loading. At least, that's what I guess
so, what are the odds of the Gnex getting this? even with the possible performance optimization.
Does the fact Google didn't jump a full version number bode well for us nexus folk?

if I get this correctly, Google is working on something that would be available for all, or at least for the majority of devices? How can this possibly take place? Is Google trying to establish one version of its own OS for all, same as the iOS goes for all iphones, and then evolve that? Maybe with some small code changes for different type of phones? Kinda confusing statement but I guess its good news. Boy, I can see how the upcoming update will put XDA forums on fire. And definately this is going live by the end of this year.
PS: Judging by the name Google must have paid a great amount of money as using a name/brand of chocolate that popular is a great deal.
Android 4.4 should use Google's 4.8 toolchain! :good:
where is the OTA ?!?
That's the next question for the next days
And mad props for google in breaking the main news of the day.

apparently, google went to nestle (or who ever makes KitKats) and they reached a "no money changed hands" deal in 24 hours.
its a good deal for both IMO.
google would have to pay for the kitKat name, KitKat gets free advertising, everyone is happy with no money.
I think google just wanted the name, and it happened to work out that KitKat was OK with that and happy for the advertising.
i would personally never buy a KitKat, but now that i have a chance to win something android, i am going to be buying up the stores
I wouldn't put much stock into the "available to everybody" phrase on the KitKat Android page.
The closest we've had is the slow trickle of apps being unpaired from the system core and launched on Google Play instead.
That's assuming we're even talking about software, that line is so vague it could mean anything (and possibly nothing, just marketing talk due to the 1 billion device activations).
for me what matters is "an amazing Android experience", I think something about a better user interface probably
in my opinion it's still not sure if we get it or not
Ps: on the bottom of the page it says: "Sign up to learn more when we launch the release", so it's not going to launch soon..1-2 months?
Pps: http://kitkat.com/ website is down, too much visits probably, they are having a break

That website is interesting. I know they are playing with the idea of the KitKat having a whole phone spec thing. But I wonder how much of that could be little hints to what is coming with android. We all know how Google likes to tease and play with our minds.

I bought one yesterday, unfortunately it doesn't sync with iPhone waiting to look after a rom! It has a great and easy fully functional android menu, although on every watch face it doesn't show steps n heart rate so you hahave to access them through menu. If you have any other question, do not hesitate to ask me.
In addition to your impressions of the overall build quality of the watch, I'd really like to know if it has the 1900 MHz band as advertised. This is critical to using it as a standalone device in the US. If it has both 850 and 1900, its a game changer in its class.

It doesn't work at all or just message notifications? I've heard this problem many times on chinese smartwatches, iOS just doesn't allow it.
I bought a cheap huawei mobile phone to sync my doogee smart watch but still it doesn't get any notification, it works standalone.. However it says that is waterproof ip67, yesterday when I was cleaning the dishes its screen flashed white twice, and from then it doesn't work at all.. I suggest you not to buy it
I'm sorry for your loss. I assume you're going to request a replacement? Keep us posted...

Are they finally going to let people order without the invite system? Looking to replace my phone, but was never able to get the One or Two as I never got an invite.

oh, i am so sorry to hear that, it is said it will not need to invite in some stores. you can inquire others.
Right now i have read the news about Oneplus 3 possible specs from the Oneplus fans. According to the meeting with Oneplus fans in India, Pete Lau expressed that they will let the fans say what’s the ideal hardware it will be about Oneplus 3.
During the talk Pete offered the phone with either RAM 4GB and 128GB rom or 6GB RAM, 64GB rom,
Possible OP3 specifications;
Full HD AMOLED screen
Thinner phone size
HDMI connectivity
128 GB internal memory
A 16-megapixel camera
24-hour battery life on full charge
Curved screen like in Samsung Galaxy S6
Stereo speakers in front
Near field communication (NFC)
It’s said Oneplus 3 will be released in July. I hope most of specs are right, especially ROM 128GB. So what do you think of these specs? Will it come with these kind of specs?
they will be happy their fans?
i don't know... i think the specs will be change

The invitation system is past.
After some test OnePlus 3 is a big surprise. Finally a high-end phone with a snapdragon and 6GB of RAM. No worries screen calibration.
Some site speaks yellow problem, but its failure would be a qualibrage. I greatly recommend this smartphone
A camera very powerful, despite the limited functionality available currently.
The fingerprint sensor is very responsive compared to competitor phone.
I've had word from oneplus that you need to have the dash charge charger for that feature to work, but they never said whether you need the dash charge cable or not (is it just a standard type-c cable?)
Anyone got any info yet?

The latest OTA is version 11.2.8.8.LE15AA, I think that one in the screenshot is the full version download preceding the latest OTA updates, but IDK for sure lol
Edit - my default kernel was built on Jul 8 2021, and android security date/level is 7/1/21 ... HTH
I read about OnePlus getting new people to make a team to work on Open Beta for 9/9Pro.
I like that!
New team is not something to like. It might be good but also be a disaster. Questions should be asked like WHY????? are they getting a new team? What happened to all the revenue they made and how are they using it? Who is controlling the company, One Plus or the Chinese government? Why the delay to begin with. I realized DP1 was developers preview and not beta but why not allow Google updates for DP 2 and three. Who cares that Oxygen was not on it yet. Now that stability been reached with Beta, let's us Early Adopters adopt. I refuse to buy a Google Pixel love my one plus but was so excited that it allowed BL to be unlocked but I feel let down by OP. Perhaps my expectations were unrealistic to begin with

This update is from June. (end of the month)
There's an update (11.2.8.8) from July. (end of month)
So, following this logic, this week OnePlus might release a new one.

I'd be more worried if the US government was running it like apple with the new back door.

Lol US government and Chinese as well because even though apple says they are all American blah blah but they are manufactured in China as well. Just all marketing etc
People get married, have kids, no more time to spend on Android. Priorities change.

People get married, have kids, no more time to spend on Android. Priorities change. I also think not only priorities of people's lives but also Android itself and the huge slowdown of phone evolution. Actual since smartphone sales slowed companies like apple and Google created smart watches to help increase revenues. They first used the old nostalgic movies like knight rider or James bond to sell them even though Smart watches cannot do anything close to what the movies portrayed. You can make flippable phones but you won't see hologram s coming out of your phone. I know we love to always think of our technology being limitless but that dam law of physics keeps getting in the way. So now they will start with AR glasses with WebView capabilities. And when that fails, which it will because who wants a HUD I'm their line of sight. In 30 years we will events have implants and chips that will help the brain and technology link. Isn't it Neurolink that exists now. That technology is decades away. Because again we do not know how the body/brain will react and now I'm having flashback from the movie Black Mirror.

Ain't no updates that can save this POS.
the support update page is only updated from time to time, it does not repesent the actual stage of the software.
At this point 11.2.8.8 is up 2 date. OnePlus updates bi-monthly.

There's closed beta testing so maybe devs are focusing to it. Sad to see no fix for Gmail notification bug...

I think the gmail app just sux. I've experienced the late notifications across quite a few devices personally.
Oxygen sucks because of google. The more google on it the more bad Oxygen will be.
Also the King of Bloatware, samsung already gets Androis 12.
And OnePlus release 9R or something...
They are starting the ultimate consolidation of Oxygen OS into Color OS. How is OnePlus going to manage all these phones? Do they even have enough staff to manage all these phones?
Unfortunately they only update bi-monthly.
I saw a user suggest on their official forums basically say "hey guys, how about monthly updates like your competition?" in a friendly way, and a mod basically said **** off and closed the thread. I wasn't impressed.
This was my first OnePlus device, maybe my last.
That 12 Beta debacle was ridiculous.
After having the 7, 8, & 9 Pro, I will be leaving the building as well!
Is this a joke? About month last update and now ppl are think this is over. How do u even can survive this life?
I like how people actually think theres a decent alternative to oneplus these days. At least not in the US. Maybe google if the pixel 6 is actually premium/flagship this time. Otherwise theres no other brand with an unlockable bootloader, which is how they get away with so much bloat. Personally im fine of oneplus becomes a little more like the others as long as the hardware is premium and the bootloader is unlockable.
9 Pro is my first and last phone from OP if they can't get they BS sorted out. The phone has horrible battery life, scrolling issues, and it doesn't get better with next updates. Also, wtf is that BS with the bi-monthly update scheudle? A device like this should be fixed ASAP, the users are experiencing problems and neet to wait, the hell is that policy? Would they wait 2 months to release an update if someone would find a security bug too? So stupid. Get your **** together OnePlus.
