[Q] WiFi Calling - MMS? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

when wifi calling is enable i can't send mms messages nor can i send texts to email addresses. when i try i get "no network connection - mobile data is turned off. this message will be sent when mobile data is turned on." well i can't turn on mobile data with wif-calling enabled, i have to turn it off. so the net result is i can only send mms mesaages with wifi calling off. the problem is i live in the sticks where coverage is weak, so with data enabled and wifi calling off, mmss messages are still a hit.miss proposition, and of course phone calls don't work.
i tested a friend's s5, his carrier is metropcs, and i can send mms messages with wif calling enabled on his phone, no problem, but his phone won't receive mms messages with wifi calling turned on.
i called tmobile tech and the first idiot i spoke with told me that it can be resolved with a full factory reset, which of course isn't true. the next tmoible tech i spoke with said this is a known problem with samsung phones, and apologized for the factory reset directions i was given by the other tech guy, he also said this problem does not exist with google phones and a couple of others. after doing a google search there are tons of complaints about this, but no real consensus as far as i can tell, some s4 users seem to be able to use mms with wifi calling enabled, many, many apparently can't.
so is anyone else having this issue? is there a workaround? how about an online texting service that bypasses phone software altogether? any help would be greatly appreciated!

no one else is having mms problems when wi-fi calling is enabled?

forgot to add, my apn setting:
name: t-mobile us lte
apn: fast.t-mobile.com
mmsc: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
mcc: 310
mnc: 260
apn type: default,mms,supl
apn protocol: IPV6
apn roaming protocol: IPV4
i've also tried:
- changing protocols to ipv4/ipv6, and just ipv6
- changing wifi calling connection preferences to cellular network preferred

i believe i am using the stock mms... i installed the custom rom on top of samsaung's stock rom, and then added different features (mods) to the custom rom via aroma - one of the mod choices was stock or custom mms and i chose stock. or are you saying that all custom roms will automatically make the stock mms custom?

No not all custom ROMs will make the stock MMS turn into custom. Only some. What you can try doing is make a backup of your current system, then do a complete wipe via recovery and reinstall v9 of Insane and don't install any mods the first time. Test to see if you can send MMS over WiFi Calling. If you can, then proceed to install whatever mods you had before but when you get to the selection of which MMS to use, select Stock S4 or if there's an option that says "no choice" then select that.
Basically using a modded MMS, even if its just a themed S4 MMS, MMS over WiFi calling won't work. You need to use pure stock MMS.

i have three other t-mobile s4 (sgh-m919) phones (wife, two kids) that aren't rooted and it doesn't work on any. do you use wifi calling? if so are you able to send photos with your texts when it's enabled? and if so can you answer the following:
1. what connection preferences do you have set in wifi calling, wifi preferred or cellular network preferred?
2. in your apn setting, how do you have your protocols set, ipv4, ipv6 or ipv4/ipv6?
doing a google search this is a big problem t-mobile for s4 owners - a owrkaround seems to be setting wifi calling connection preferences to cellular network preferred. many believe that data (mms) simply can't be sent over the internet, it needs to be sent via the data network, which is what the workaround does, it allows you to keep wifi calling on, but when mms texts are sent they're routed through the cellular network.

Just flash the stock mms again to make sure. I have the fast.tmobile.com apn on IPV4 and I can send and receive mms.. Also make sure you use have the stock mms app as default messaging app, otherwise it won't work

here's nokia's explanation re mms (not sms) and wifi calling:
------------------------------------------------------
FAQ - Cellular data connection or MMS sending doesn't work on my Lumia 521 when using "Wi-Fi Calling"
If using the Wi-Fi Calling feature, check that the Wi-Fi Calling settings are not blocking the cellular data access: Swipe left from the main screen to access the Wi-Fi Calling app (or tap on the live tile on the main screen) and go to settings. Ensure that the option Wi-Fi only is not selected. If you want to use the Wi-Fi Calling feature and still use cellular network when a Wi-Fi network is not available, change the setting to Wi-Fi preferred or Cellular preferred.
Check also that the data connection via cellular network is enabled: Select settings > cellular and check that Data connection is set to ON. Make sure that the airplane mode is not selected in settings > airplane mode. Note that when connected to Wi-Fi calling feature, only plain text messages (SMS) can be sent. If you want to send MMS messages, you need to disconnect from Wi-Fi calling feature. Go to Wi-Fi calling > settings and toggle Wi-Fi calling to off.
------------------------------------------------------
the problem with t-mobile is that when wifi calling is enabled, and wifi preferred is selected in the sub options (connection preferences) as opposed to cellular network preferred, it often breaks the data connection, it often disables it - when you go into network connections and try to register automatically (or manually, or show available networks) with wifi calling enabled and wifi preferred set, you get unable to connect to network errors. anyway some seem to think they can send mms over wifi using wifi calling, but that's not the case as far as i can tell, mms can only be sent through the cellular network.

yes, you can send and receive mms because you have a good cellular network connection, which doesn't have anything to with wifi calling, at least that's how i understand it.

I turned off mobile data and it still sent and I received it.. I don't really think it's dependent on mobile network asfaik.. could be different with windows mobile devices like the lumia

according the t-mobile tech guy i spoke with, google, windows and a couple of other phones have no problem sending data (mms) over wifi, but it's an issue with samsungs... had i known this i wouldn't have purchased 4 s4's for my family.

Try what I suggested earlier I had the same issue with MMS not sending on insane KitKat but it worked after I flashed the stock MMS. I never had a problem sending or receiving MMS over WiFi calling with my S3 or S4, I don't care what that "tech" says

very much appreciate your help but i'm a noob and need a little more explanation. are you saying that i can't use "the sickness" custom rom with the nb4 modem but instead should just reflash samsung's official rom?

when you say "insane kitkat" are you referring to the sicknesss's rom (v9)? if so he no he no longer has aroma bundled with it that allows you to select mod options. so should i instead dirty flash his aroma mod5 zip and select stock mms? if so i already did this when i used his mod5 zip, i went stock with most of the options, including mms. i'll give it another try.
btw i was mistaken - my other 3 non-rooted tmobile s4 phones can send and receive mms over wifi calling, so rooting, the v9 rom, or one of the options i selected in the aroma mod5 pacjage has broken my mms over wifi calling, could it be the kernel i chose (adam)?

Yes that ROM.. And if that's the case then yes, flash the mod zip.. Maybe it is something else conflicting. Did you debloat it, or are you using xposed? Kernel shouldn't affect it, but I use Fenny's kernel

Is this a US Cellular phone? I'm surprised that a CDMA phone works on T-Mobile's (GSM) network at all... But if you can receive calls then I guess it does.
The data setting for T-Mobile -- the APN -- is epc.tmobile.com
So...if you have a place under Settings>Connections>Manage/Edit existing connections for APN or Access Point Name then epc.tmobile.com is it for data.
I don't know about MMS...I don't use it.
Its a CDMA/GSM phone.
MMS is wap.voicestream.com

Anyone know of a CAB that does all this Data and MMS settings like a T-Mobile Carrier Provisioning?

[Q] MMS problem with gingerbread ROM´s

hey guys!
when i flash a gingerbread based ROM (i have tried different gingerbread roms), i can´t receive MMS, when my mobile network is disabled. it works well on any older version.
i was searching for a solution, but the only answer i could find was "check your apn´s", but i´m sure they ain´t wrong.
have anybody an idea?
cheers!
Hi there,
If your mobile network is disabled you won't be able to send MMS as the service uses mobile data to send/receive. GPRS, EDGE or 3G is necessary to send receive MMS.
Most ROM's auto-enable the APN for MMS when the mobile network is off some don't, it may be something to feedback to the Dev?
Hope this helps.
sure, you need any service to send or receive... but i don´t have a flatrate (from my provider) for mobile network but i have one for send and receive mms. (i dont know how they differentiate between the connection for send/receive mms and ne mobile network, but they do..) so i have always disabled my mobile network (i have set a worng apn server number at my apn list. but the secound apn for mms is correct and it have worked with the stock rom, revolution hd 3.xx or CM6...) but it dont work at revolution hd4 or cm7, so i think its some problem in conjunction with gingerbread...
thanks
I'm having the same issue at the moment on my Desire HD with Android Revolution HD 4.0 beta installed. Quite sure my APNs are all correct. Any help would be appreciated as I currently can't receive MMS.
Cheers
I can confirm I'm able to send MMS, however receiving is the issue.
Edit: Was going to attempt to post the issue in the development thread as a possible issue/bug, however due to lack of posts I don't have access. If someone could do so that would be brilliant.
some good news about that problem? i would like to use gingerbread, but not without using mms.. :-/

[q] editing MMS Connection Settings

hi,
how do i edit connection settings in the messages folder to make my ROM usable with my provider's MMS settings? everything is greyed out and inaccessible.
i have the info needed from a working phone...
you need to check your APN settings
i dont have that option in wireless & networks

what option? if you mean "it's not there", that's the whole point, you need to add it >menu >new APN
you need to check with your telco as to what their MMS settings are
in mobile network settings what i get is data roaming, data roaming sound, enable always - on mobile connectivity, and system select (cdma roaming mode). thats it
i see the settings if i go to the messaging menu (inbox) then press menu - settings - connection settings. but they're inaccessible
Do you have a CDMA or GSM phone?
cdma...................
you really should have mentioned that, it's really very significant!
you need a ROM that supports CDMA phones, you can't just put whatever on there

Still stuck here fellas... Using pre rooted stock froyo cdma rom from this site.

MMS not sending or downloading

every since i got my GN it has had trouble sending or receiving MMS, doesnt matter if i'm on 3g or wifi
i have tried clearing the cache and force closing, this works about 20% of the time
anyone know of a fix for this?
From what I've experienced and know, you can't only send/receive MMS through 2g/3g, NOT wifi. MMS is a carrier based service, which is why it won't work on wifi. Some roms have the ability to download on Wi-Fi though, don't know of any here, but quite a few on the G2x.
Anyways, how long do you give it to send/receive till you decide that its a "failure"? It would also help to disable "auto retrieve" in the Messaging app.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
This issue is most likely related to the apn settings provided by your carrier. I had this issue too, and found out on two separate carriers that I needed data on one, even though it said I didn't. On the other carrier, I just had the APN settings wrong, and that my current carrier allows MMS through 3g data without charging for it.

+1. This.
You need to verify your MMS APN settings with your carrier.

Or is this something on my phone?
On your phone.
Settings >> More >> Mobile networks >> Access point names

MMS problems Lineageos 15.1 20190423 starlte

Hi,
I'm in Australia, new Samsung S9 using Boost mobile (Telstra reseller). Out of the box I flashed Lineage and twrp recovery, as well as a gapps pack. Everything works as it should except MMS. I've confirmed APN settings match the telco as specified, although I've noticed there are 2 APNs for each of internet and MMS, in the default APN settings.
When I receive an MMS, my data connection breaks and the MMS gets stuck "downloading" before it fails, and the only way I can fix my data connection is to delete the MMS, then turn mobile data off and on again.
Any ideas?
TIA
Dan
So... Anyone having the same problem? Coz it sucks. MMS is a basic function that surely is not difficult to solve..
