[Q] Using Tempered Glass and SUPCASE Unicorn Beetle - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What's so special about using Tempered glass? I couldn't really notice the difference (except for the breaking part of it - it shatters as a whole)
I know how it's made specially using thermal and chemical methods, but why is it popular?
Also, I'm getting the SUPCASE Unicorn Beetle Premium Hybrid Protective Case (Frost Clear/Black).
Has anyone else tried it? How good is it? Any better cases you could suggest?

Tempered glass is nice because it gives good protection and doesn't get as dirty as your typical vinyl plastic cheap protectors. They (the good ones at least) come with the same oleophobic coating that comes on your screen that keeps it clean and free off fingerprints.

You also get drop protection so in the event you drop your phone on your screen only the tempered glass will shatter and your screen should be fine.

Glass screen protectors do tend to cost a lot more than regular screen protectors. I have never used a Cruzerlite screen protector but their cases do have good reviews, Hopefully this screen protector is good as well.

hmm that's cheaper than the spigen and some others. i may order that and give the rhino sheild that's yet to arrive to my brother, being he's destroyed several phone screens.
#1 reason I don't use glass protectors is because they're hard and trapped dust can't be removed easily. This might actually make me switch to glass in the future. Too bad I already purchased a 6-pack of matte SP's for my N5 which will last me till I dispose of the phone.

I get it but glass make the phone feel so nice
Im hoping someone does a video comparison of the tru glass versus the spigen nano slim. The spigen is 0.23 mm and the truglass is 0.25mm. However I do not believe the spigen protector is flexible like the truglass. I'm sure that helps make it shatterproof if it truly is glass. Because it is soo flexible it makes me think its plastic and not glass. They do have flexible glass screens on phones nowadays but it is technology that is just hitting the market so I would suspect if this were truly glass and this flexible it would cost more than the spigen but it is cheaper !!
The rounded spigen nano is still not out yet so there is still some time for people to get this one and test it out.....cant wait to see the results. One more major thing I'm hoping to get with either one of these glass screen protectors is true smudge proof/oil resistance. That is the most important feature to me...so which ever one is more oleophobic is the one I want.

Who here has a spigen is 0.23 mm nano slim?
By that logic, the gorilla glass screens used on all phones and tablets costs $20+ to make? That's more than the cost of the processors in our devices.

oh my bad I haven't used a screen protector in about 5 years. But 2 weeks into having my HTC One I got 2 huge scratches in the center of the screen. I hate screen protectors, because I love the natural feel of my screen. but when I get my Nexus 5 I'm definitely getting a glass screen protector. I presume these screen protectors work well with their cases.

The Mime glass protector is pretty smudge/fingerprint proof, for me. I just get dust on it, which wipes away with my hand.

It moved a little bit and had some flex to it. It definitely is a rigid piece of glass though. I think it flexes more because of the thinness of the glass piece.

OK guys so I placed this Tru Glass protector and it is awesome, I had a SPIGEN Glass TR on my phone before I put this one (glass tr is the one that has the issues), its super slim just like the Glass Nano TR, it feels great to the touch feels just like the naked screen.
It was easy to put on no bubbles or anything like that.
So I really recommend this protector its awesome, its cheaper than the SPIGEN protectors and in my own opinion its as high quality as the SPIGEN brand.

glass screen protector w/ oleophobic coating and fingerprint resistant?

Does anybody know if there's a glass screen protector out there that feels like the naked htc one screen and is also fingerprint/smudge-resistant? Is there any that comes even close? or is it even not possible? I know matte ones can be anti-fingerprint, but doesn't feel like the naked glass...
Most likely would have to go matte to be fingerprint resistant IME

thank you for the reply. i am still hoping some random person on this forum would know of one from like on ebay or something. for now, i'll just add the MIME feather glass to my wishlist since i still prefer the feeling of glass over the feeling of a matte one.
I have the MIME ghost glass on mine. Don't get alot of prints on there unless my hand is oily and sweaty. Wipes off easily, so I don't mind if it has smudges or finger prints

I heard the oleophobic coating, eg anti-fingerprint wear off after a couple of months faster if you are a gamer.

Matte anti-glare tempered glass screen protector

Okay so here's the deal, I was using the orzly tempered glass screen protector and I missed the feel of the matte screen protectors. I didn't want to just remove the orzly one because I spent $10 on it and its still in prefect condition. So I had an idea, LAYERED SCREEN PROTECTORS! I got 6 matte screen protectors on eBay for $3 so I didn't really care if I messed up.
now before anyone complains that its a stupid idea, I know that it could affect the touch responsiveness and so far, it didn't.
Worst case:
-remove both screen protectors
Second worst case:
-remove the matte screen protector from the tempered one.
Best case:
-everything works properly.
CAUTION:
-The only hard part about this is you have to layer them PERFECTLY or you'll have a an uneven finish.
-There will be a border where the matte screen protector hangs off the tempered one since its slightly bigger. Thus might cause the screen protector to lift off if you have a tight fit case.
I'll keep this thread updated on his it handles in the upcoming weeks.

Honestly it worked well but after a period of about a month, the edges of the matte one wouldn't stick anymore since its bigger than the Ozrly protector. I have heard that some tempered ones cover edge to edge but then I assume a tight tpu cases wouldn't fit correctly.
Anyway, I ended up taking it off and am currently using only the tempered glass. The main reason is when I took of the matte, I didn't realize how beautiful the screen was and how much crappier the matte made it look. So I decided to just get used to the tempered glass one which took a little time because my fingers usually drag on the screen. But I honestly did get used to it.

I was a big fan of the matte protectors but since putting the nillkin tempered on, I don't miss the feel of the matte protector.
I also now see how much nicer the screen looks. Matte was great for minimizing reflections but it definitely reduced the image.
Any pictures with both protectors on?

It looked exactly the same as on the regular screen except that the top right and tip left corners hang off the ozrly and over time it won't stick anymore because dust eventually gets underneath it.

Oneplus 2 nillkin glass question

Hello!
I chose nillkin case, but looking to buy nillkin glass, and have a question: they have new H+ Pro and PE+ glass, not only H like it was for Oneplus One.
Did anybody try it? Any recommendation?
btw, H glass was awesome for oneplus one.
Links to actual products:
PE+
H+ PRO
H
Thanks for suggestions.
What are differences between them?
From what I can tell...
PE+: blocks blue light from screen (filter of sorts), is 0.3 mm thick, no claim for light transmittance, nano oleophobic coating.
H+ Pro: 0.2 mm thick, 99.9% light transmittance, nano oleophobic coating.
H: 0.3 mm thick, 99.99% light transmittance, nano oleophobic coating.
Not sure how they have 99.99% light transmittance in a thicker screen protector, but whatev.
Am I right that H+ Pro is the preffered option?

Definitely, for glass the thinner the better because its less noticeable and at 0.2mm it will still offer decent protection.
But personally I'd just get a few of these and call it a day, they all come from the same place any way if you know what I mean.

Ok, great, thanks.
cr0wnest, also thanks for a link, either I understand what you mean, I will go with nilkin, they recommended themself by great cases for me + glass for my previous phone (oneplus one) was pretty good.
Will order 0.21 (H+ Pro), ty.
I'm expecting a pe + buy in aliexpress.
I hope that the home button is not too deep.
I received my Nillkin H+ the other day and I can say there is a huge difference between this and a Bepak glass protector I previously owned.
Nillkin will be a risk-free choice!
Hey how was your experience with nillkin h+ pro? I am confused between nillkin h+pro and original one plus 2 temeperd glass. I want to use it with otterbox back cover
Bought this a few days back and it's really very good , looks beautiful , is resistant to everyday usage and is very thin . the oleo phobic coating really works , the display is always clean unless your hands are very oily .

Oleophobic wise, I think the CHYI glass is better. http://www.aliexpress.com/item/2015...tor-protective-film-Original/32438566718.html
But in terms of transparency and fit, they are exactly the same to me. Though I'd get the chyi glass in this case.

Matte glass protectors are same in thickness as the normal ones, but with the anti glare matte quality on the screen. Its exactly the same feeling as the matte plastic film protectors. It is less prone to fingerprints as well. I only had it on for a while before switching back to normal clear tempered glass, I prefer to have clarity.

Sorry to bother so much haha. But I noticed that it is 0,26mm.
Maybe I should look for 0.2 mm or the difference isn't so big?
Maybe nilkin h+ if it really is like both combined can be the best option

Those that say 0.2mm is actually 0.26mm or maybe even 0.3mm. After using so many tempered glasses, all that talk about thinness is BS to me.
@mantiyeah i got the H+pro
I was tipped off by a friend that the Nilikin H+ Pro tempered glass have a better oleophobic coating than normal tempered glasses, and they only cost slightly more. I don't have a H+ Pro to test so I cannot say. Can someone confirm this?
Oh yes the oleo phobic coating on the h+pro is much better than on regular ones .

Poor experience with glass film

I applied the glass protection of the brands Mocolo and Amfilm on my Pixel 2 XL. And what I realize is that, the black level is decreased somewhat giving way to gray color. These glass films look shiny. I wonder if these films of malleable plastic that needs a liquid to be applied, if it keeps the color faithful to the screen.
The last film I used was this ..

There is another plastic film option as well. Even though it protects little compared to glass, I prefer plastic because of the faithful color levels. For greater protection only use a case that has larger edges than the screen. I use a Spigen liquid crystal and its edges is above the screen, so I already have a good protection.
