Problems using Linux Firefox and Chromium to create/edit forum posts - About xda-developers.com

Today Firefox decided not to let me edit one of my larger posts. When I selected edit, it came up blank. Nadda, nothing. Also tried to edit another one and it no longer does WYSIWYG.
Am I missing something new?
Also I can't really use Chromium to edit either because it doesn't support WYSIWYG at all. And when I pasted my newly edited thread content in, I lost all my hyperlinks...:silly:
I'm going to install Chrome to see how that fairs...
Edit: Tried Windows Firefox and Chrome also with no results either. Guess I'll just have to keep my post small and simple....

Hi
I am on Xubuntu 64 bit running firefox from unpack bz2 rather than from repo.
Also unpack is on its own data partition so I can image using fsarchiver.
try right hand clicking the edit button and there should be an option to "inspect element"
post that element when you can.....maybe there is a little fault in the javascript?

Actually it's too late to check. I got frustrated and cut most of the content out and put it in a text file for anyone needing the information. It was mostly background stuff anyway. I think there is a character limit, but it doesn't give a character count, so you just end up finding out when it happens.

Ok as a work-a-round on your next big post
prepare it on Linux text editor
show the format as ....but change img to u r l with no gaps....my post count too low to show it
Code:
[img]imagesrc[/img]
good luck

Sounds strange, haven't heard of this. Check which plugins you have installed, I have seen some block proper editing. If you have the issue again, check to see if you can inspect with Chrome or FF to see where the mistake might be coming in.

I've had the same result with Firefox in Windows also. I must have been a character limit thing...
From my Debloated Stock LG-G3, VS985 4G VZN

Also Firefox and Chrome editors are different. Chrome doesn't allow wysiwyg display. The button is literally missing.

[Mort] M IExplorer - html skinned menus for Mortscript

So here's a new topic i am gonna be making shortly.
We r gonna use Pocket IE to edit Mortscript variables.
This will allow us to skin the choice statement, etc. Because we r running IE in kiosk/full screen mode we have 100% of the screen real estate.

"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
(Would look nicer with some graphics...)
This means we can use all the html form commands as mortscript variable selectors. Text Input, Round and square check boxes, pull down menus. Not to mention javascript form processing.
Enclosed is a working example.
Next update should include the javascript url interpreter to "hint"/fill the html form statements. I will of course find out how many variables we can work with on the url line.
Let me know if this does not work for u.
What u will see:
Run it, then IE will open and hopefully open full screen
then u will see a page asking for a text box and radios. fill em and click submit. It will go to a new page and then pop up with the url/form data.
If anybody wants to proceed further i have a much further developed code. IExplorer is easy to work with. I am just working on the Opera version.

Javascript to make the magic happen
Javascript
The easy to do: IExplorer is a pushover
IExplorer works no holds barred.
url is in the title. ? and & passed arguments show in the title.
Passing ? and & to a static web page works just fine
The not so easy: Opera is ok
Opera 8.65 and Opera 10 hopefully function similarly.
Full screen mode is great. Is there a shortcut to open the browser full screen? there very well may be.
Opera will not show the url in the title, BUT we can set the page title to be the URL and tada.
Now passing URL to a static page is turning out to be a like a bull fight.
How to pass the variable data in and out?
Third browser set?
Third browser set?
We might as well look out for additional browsers. Some may function perfectly right out of the box as long as we check.

And btw.
I had thought for a moment that IE was not installed on certain ROMs.
I did decide not to bother with the other browser types... no reason.

Firefox and the Thanks button

I guess my html code issues were only the tip of the iceberg. XDA made some changes sometime within the past weekend that has made the Thanks button invisible to me. If I switch to IE Tab I can see it, but in my native Firefox, it is gone. I've cleared the cache, browsing history, everything, and I can't get it back. Any help would be appreciated, I can't stand Internet Exploder
Same here. I don't have the thanks button.
Firefox 3.5.16
Did this just happen to you this weekend, hav0c? I am on Firefox 3.6.13.
I'm on FF 3.6.13 and I can see the Thanks button

That's good to know - so it's got to be something going on with our own installations. I see when I switch to IE Tab that there are many ads I'm not seeing on FF (there's a reason for that - I don't do ads, I contribute) I wonder if that has anything to do with it? I use AdBlock Plus.
ETA Ha! It is there, it just isn't visible until you hover over where it should be! Veerry interesting......but stoopid (only old folks like me will recognize that quote )
For the record, the Thanks button has magically reappeared. Nothing was done on my end to make it so.
i can't see it but pointer changes to hand from arrow when i hover in the right place... had to look this thread up to find the right place!
google chrome v 9.0.597.102
mac os 10.6.6 snow leopard build 10j567
a mystery to me... although I feel a little better to see I'm not the only one - was terrified for a moment there that I was losing my mind!

No, you haven't lost your mind, and it will magically reappear at some point - no one here will explain why, though. It seems to have something to do with server load, from what I can tell.
iam on firefox 4 with windows 7 and i cant see "thanks" button either.............any progress in solution for this?
on my iPad i can see thanks button so i think it is firefox related problem ???
If you can see this image then you should see the button...

If neither of them show you the thanks button then there's something strange going on.

To the website developers

Please remove the force IE8 tag from the site. It is making a lot of features go a bit crazy. The edit box cursor does not like to move over in some cases. Also IE9 keeps saying that it is blocking some javascript to prevent cross domain scripting. I think there is a rogue advertisement or something.

Why are you trolling? There is nothing wrong with Internet Explorer.
No seriously. I'm not trolling. I'm genuinely asking why you are still on IE. Is there a specific reason? i'm asking because basically every other browser is better (UI, user experience, security)wise.
Because from a security standpoint Internet Explorer 9 is safer than the other browsers. Do some research into SSL spoofing on firefox as well as cross site scripting attacks.
Alright! Another IE9 brother.
And we've sent this up the chain to our server admin.

Chrome? Too used to it already
I use IE mostly for compatibility, I know, sounds strange but most of the important sites I go to work best in IE.
Otherwise I use firefox which is nearly as good in that respect and better in others.
Chrome I found to be a huge resource hog, and Opera often fails to display pages properly, either getting the layout wrong or failing to show images hosted on my webserver used in my sig.
Although unlikely, our server admin is testing this right now to make sure it doesn't break any other versions of IE.

Having a few images missing here and there but not such a big deal... until today.
I noticed the computer was overheating and checked the task manager to find this:
12-15% CPU time and over a Gig used memory on several tabs (already closed in this image).
So I wandered what could be causing this, so I had a quick look under the hood to find this:
It seems the domain of the logo http://forum-lw-1.xda-cdn.com/images/2015/xda-logo_newcolors.svg is down or blocked.
Code:
net::ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED
and both Chrome and Firefox keep trying to load it forever.
So taking that in account I used Hola to proxy my way around the problem and sure enough it worked!
I flushed my dns settings just to be sure that the problem wasn't on my side:
Code:
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /registerdns
netsh winsock reset
Now I don't know if there is more issues with the pages I didn't debug the page since using a proxy resolved the problem for me but I urge the admins to look at this problem bot client and server side.
PS:I'm in Portugal

I've checked DNS, seems like all is working ok now: http://dns.squish.net/traverses/0b468a92af80738117500774a3a72e76
I don't know if this was just a temporary error on your end or what, can you check to see if this is still a problem?

Sorry for the late reply,
It seems that all is solved now, yes.
The only errors that I get now are these and they seem irrelevant.
It's weird because I saw the same problem a month or two before I made the post but now everything seems fixed.
Anyways thanks for looking into it.

I hate the "Insert Quote" as preview (and not markup)

With the latest site software change when you insert a quote it appears as a format preview in your markup text box.
I would prefer that there be only markup in the markup text box.
Maybe you could have straight WYSIWYG for those who like it.
Me? I like markup.

I see what you're talking about because it did for me too at some point but now it's gone. Test it with this message and tell us what you got.
I just did a Reply and it pops up in shaded box instead of pure markup.
I'm used to splitting up quotes the easy way by copying the [quote] & [/quote].
