Note 8 to LG Smart TV, what are my options? - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooti

I'm currently running rooted stock Jelly Bean 4.1(with plans to flash official Kitkat) and I'm looking into getting a smart TV most likely an LG. The model I'm considering has the following inbuilt 'smart' share options:
Google DIAL
MIRACAST Screen Share
MHL Screen Share
WiDi
The TV has these connectivity options:
WiFi Ready(wifi not built in, needs adapter)
WiFi Direct
Simplink
I know DIAL is a new thing without much traction right now, WiDi is exclusive to Intel devices. I'm particularly keen on wireless screen mirroring to the TV, so my questions are:
-Can I connect seamlessly via Miracast with my Note 8?
-Which currently available android version on our device works best for screen mirroring(4.1, 4.2 or 4.4)?
-Is Allshare any specific app necessary to mirror my screen or is it natively supported by the ROM?
-Will it be beneficial to buy a chromecast? Will it work with the Note 8?
I've scoured through the Note 8 forums and screen mirroring isn't mentioned a whioe lot and often just in passing. There are many posts concerning allshare not working with rooted stock ROMs, but many of these are old posts from last year. There's hardly mention of screen mirroring on Kitkat. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Not sure about LG being 100% compatible... I have a 2009 Samsung with DNLA and AnyLink+
The AnyLink+ connects any Samsung device with automatic turn on and input change. Plus it will turn off the TV if the device should turn off.
From what I see the LG should do what you need as AnyNet+ is really not a requirement.

Thanks, so how is Miracast implemented currently in the stock ROM? I'm on JB 4.1, all I have is allshare. Is Miracast available as a separate feature in 4.2 upwards?

Miracast is the feature called Screen Mirroring on the quick action bar.
As for Samsung Link / All Share, there are some latency issues but with Chinese Miracast/DLNA dongles some provide very fast response to limit latency.
All Share is the same thing as Link... both use Samsung's Miracast... depending on your Samsung updates, you should have an All Share firmware update installed to the tablet. Once you connect with the All Share device the firmware is automatically updated.

I think I have to come clean on something, I'm still on JB 4.1.2, and all I HAD was allshare, I deleted/debloated it after rooting. So I don't have the app anymore but I want to know if the more recent stock ROMs have a Miracast function separate from Allshare that can connect the tablet to a miracast enabled TV.

LG SmartShare

Does anyone know if it's possible to get the SmartShare app that comes with LG phones to work with the S3? Just got an LG smart TV and want to use this feature. I did find an APK, but it just force closes after installation with the message 'manufacturer not match'
I'm not sure on the implications of this and I would check but I suppose you could alter thebbuil prop to saybthis is an lg phone and not a Sammy.
Check first as I have no idea of it's problems etc

No it never will and never was! Works with LG's verry well, don't get the OP's point why he wants the SmartShare app if AllShare can do the same...
DLNA is a standard so should work with ALL DLNA capable products!
Only screen mirror and that kind of (non_DLNA) functions will work per brand...
I actually find BubbleUPnP better than AllShare too as you can assign a different video player app - take a look at that if you're not a fan of AllShare.

No Allshare app is only for Samsung devices for now. Samsung wants to include other brands too eventually but for now all Samsung devices can be connected thru it. My LG smart tv is not recognized on it and just like allshare, LG has their own Smartshare. OP can still use DLNA directly on S3 to connect his TV but allshare would only work with Samsung devices
I have actually patched the manufacturer check but it crashes on my Nexus 7... I will share apk here so you can test it on your device.
NOTE: I do not think this is going to work on any device exept LG becouse of some kernel modules that are developed by LG and included only in their phones.
Does not works :crying:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2676137 report of MHL connection.
I've read Miracast works if your components are compatible (wifi).
"Thanks to AllShare you can also mirror your mobile device screen to the bigger HDTV via Wi-Fi Direct and the widely supported Miracast protocol - that would even allow you to play mobile games on the biggest screen in your living room. You don't need to have a Samsung TV for that to work, but it needs to have Wi-Fi connectivity and support Miracast." http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_tab_pro_8_4-review-1042p10.php

[Q] AllShare Cast

Hi,
I have a Galaxy Grand and a Samsung T.V ( f5500). The TV supports screen mirroring but my phone doesn't I.e. if I go to more settings there is no option for Allshare cast. Since having a galaxy phone is there some type of custom ROM or any way which will help me in screen mirroring ? Because my phone has features similar to S3 like best face, smart stay etc. Any sort of hack or application?
Nope Its Not Supported !

AllShare App is presently called has Samsung Link I guess and the feature u r talking abt is not there in this But u can use chromecast device to do this but it needs HIGH SPEED INTERNET Wifi..
The chrome cast uses DLNA (so shouldn't it be fast?)? And secondly, how fast internet connection do I require. On thing I have heard is that Google doesn't officially support screen mirroring, somebody modified it to do so. So would it be reliable?
Thanks anyways for replying me.

Lollipop upgrade: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal.../rom-cm-12-1-galaxy-grand-duos-i9082-t3073108
Just upgrade Galaxy Grand lollipop (cm12). Then you can get Cast Screen option in notification pannel. Turn on your WiFi and TV's WiFi and WiFi direct but don't connect anywhere. after that go to notification pannel touch and hold Cast Screen option , enable Show wireless screen. You can see your TV name at there. Just tap that name. Now you can enjoy Screen mirroring.

cast screen and screen mirroring on a samsung tv

Hi guys
I know there are threat about this matter but none of them have any solution . As you know Samsung phones have smart view which can screen mirror and control your smart TV.
Nexus 5x doesn't recognize Mira cast devices and with changing build.prop althogh it can recognize the TV but unable to connect to it. Do you guys have any idea to solve this problem?
I'm sure there is a software way. Because there shouldn't be a hardware problem with Nexus 5x .
Did any one connect a Nexus 5x to Samsung TV?
I think it depends on the year of the Samsung TV. My 4K is a 2014 model and doesn't do screen cast or mirroring yet my in-laws is 2016 and I believe does work.

Mine is a 2016 model and can't connect to it. There should be a way for this problem . Is there any way to port samsung smart view app on Nexus 5x?
Any idea?
Miracast was removed with (I think) 6.0. It's a proprietary API.
There's a few people on the 6p forums trying to get it to work, with little success.
You can change the following in the build.prop to get the Samsung device to show up on the list, the phone connects, but it doesn't cast.
persist.debug.wfd.enable=1
You also need to set Allow WiFi in the cast options.
BTW, the Smart View app is just a remote control app. It should work just fine, as long as your phone and TV are connected to the same network.
Edit: really should have read the op before replying, I basically said the same thing as you!

Hmm. Will have to give it a try next time I'm over there. Although, I could've possibly connected via Chromecast and got mixed up.

Yes it works in chrome cast but chrome cast need a router and that slow down the streaming . The benefit from the screen mirroring is that your phone connect directly to your smart tv so you have a smooth and fast experience on it .a 3rd party device like chrome cast is not a good alternative for screen mirroring.

I wasn't saying Chromecast is a great alternative. I was just saying I might've not been directly connected to the TV like I originally thought. While we're on it though, Chromecast does get the job done for the most part though if your router is close and fast.

Miracast kernel?

Hello, I was just curious if there is a kernel that supports/enables miracast?
Thank you in advance
Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk
Mircast is a Samsung exclusive. In Android (before Oreo) you use to be able to make a build prop edit to enable casting to Miracast devices, but no longer is that a option.
Are you wanting Miracast or DLNA to where you can cast your media onto your Samsung Smart TV (I think LG has DLNA as well).
Basically, the way i am able to project my streams from movie apps or the media on my phone to my 3-4 year old Samsung Smart tv with 3rd party apps...no rooting or flashing was necessary to get this working.
I downloaded one of many DLNA apps out there. The one Im using is called: XCast. i just turn on my tv, make sure the tv is connected thru wifi, and then when i choose the player for my media content, I go to "open with," then select XCast, which then recognizes my tv and then im able to shoot my stream onto my tv...basically, wireless hdmi.
If you have any questions, feel free to IM me. Good luck, hope my ramblings made sense

I'm actually just looking to screen mirror my phone to my pioneer radio that supports miracast. I haven't been able to figure out a way to do this. I don't want to be able to watch movies while driving, but instead, when I'm waiting for the wife at places and what not. Thank you

Hi guys,
I'm so excited to tell you that I just enabled Miracast for Pixel 1 running Android Pie.
you can go to the forum Google Pixel -> Google Pixel Guides, News, & Discussion for more details.
I only have a Pixel 1, but I will also build files for Pixel XL/2/2 XL/3/3XL. You can try it if you can replace your system files.
I'm not sure if it can work on other devices, but I really want to hear that it works too!
