[Q] adding apps to multi window manager? - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

since moving from galaxy note 2 N7100 to this galaxy tab S
I noticed the multi window manager UI has changed a lot.
On note 2, there's edit button and add button.
but now on tab s, there's no "add app" button, i can't even add the built-in samsung calculator to multi window manager.
am i doing something wrong, or it's just the new multi window manager limitation?

Click to collapse
So at the bottom of the MultiWindow manager there's a dotted triangle. Click on that and the edit button would become available.

yeah i hear ya i need calculator and a few others from Play and this is the first time i havent root in so long this is one of those things that makes me want to root.

[Q] change s-pen default app?

Hello all,
Is it possible to change the default app from "s-notes" to autodesk "sketchbook pro" whenever the s-pen is removed from the phone?
I tried to set the "buddy" feature but that didn't work. ... maybe because sketchbook pro isn't officially s-pen enabled?
Anybody know a way to do this?
Thanks!
GP
Nobody?
did you ever find out?
I'm looking to change the same...

You can change the shortcuts on the extra screen that pop up when you take the s pen off the phone just like any other screen.
Ok, so far the best I can do is uncheck Settings > S Pen > Open Popup Note, then turn on Settings > Display > Page buddy, tap the text part of that option to get to the S Pen page option and check it. Then, when I pull my s-pen, it will open a special home screen page that I can at least add shortcuts and widgets to.
However, this only works with the stock TouchWiz home launcher. Still looking for another option.

Can you guys pls tell if its possible to multi-task using S-pen i.e. can S-pen be used open the list of recent apps, the way long pressing home button does?
Thanks

Switch keyboards when removing/attaching pen (Root)

I wanted to be able to automatically switch to MyScript Stylus Beta keyboard when I took my pen out. And then switch back to Samsung keyboard when I put the pen away. I came across this combination of apps to do this from another forum. I *THINK* it was from the Galaxy Note 10.2 2014 edition forum. There weren't detailed instructions though so I had to figure out how to make it work. Here's hoping it helps someone else!
Before I start.. keep an eye on this app: SPenBoardSwitcher (PLAY: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.legendk.spenboardswitcher.installer XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2472801). If it gets updated to work with KitKat, then we would only need the one app to do this.
Install these apps:
Note Buddy: (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tushar.spen_helper) Creates plugin to allow Tasker to be aware of spen insertion and removal.
Secure Settings: (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.intangibleobject.securesettings.plugin) creates plugin to allow Tasker to switch keyboards
Tasker: (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.dinglisch.android.taskerm): set up the task to switch keyboards
- Open up Note Buddy, make sure Enable is set to On in the S Pen tab.
- Open up Secure Settings. Go to the System+ Tab. Enable this. It will ask for Root Access. (Back on the Options tab you can disable everything but Input Method under System+ Actions
- Open up Tasker
Under Profiles, create a new Profile. Select State, Plugin, Note Buddy. When you get to the new window, hit the pencil button next to Configuration. Choose Pen Detached. Hit Save. Hit your back button.
It prompts you to Enter a Task. Create a New Task. Give it a name (i.e. Turn Pen keyboard on). Click the plus sign at the bottom to add an action. Select Plugin. Select Secure Settings. Next to Configuration, hit the pencil button to edit. Expand System+ Actions. Choose input Method. Select the keyboard you want when the pen is being used. Save. Hit back button until you get to Tasker Profile screen.
Do the same thing over again (create another profile and task) except choose Pen Inserted for the first step and select the keyboard you want to use when pen is NOT being used for the second.
Let me know if this is clear enough or not
I will try this later on as I don't have root yet ( waiting for custom recovery) thank you for the instructions

I originally came up with this method, it was adter I came up with a way to turn gmd gesture control on and off using tasker in a similar way. A few other people have posted it since though. The 2014 was done using spenboard switcher which is broken on kitkat for us. Thanks for the share.

Galaxy note 4 smart select

Is there a tweak or mod similar to the smart select when we pull out the Spen, such that after capturing a part of the screen, the captured part can be moved about and the background still operational or responsive? So that one can still have the captured area there while doing other things on the phone? I used to have this on an iPhone. Just wondering
Any one?
Hi
Bump
I can't quite understand what you're asking, but I think you want to keep the selected area as a floating window that can be viewed while other apps are open?
If so, scrapbook kind of does this when you smart select with spen. Just choose to save in scrapbook and it should create a floating button that can be pressed to enlarge.

Pen Window for apps

Hi,
Is the pen window feature missing from Note 7 ?
I can use split screen but where is pen window ?
Thx.
it's now called "pop-up window"
I don't know if they changed it much with the note 7, but on the note 4 there are 3 ways to open an app in a pop-up window:
drag down diagonally from either top corner.
in the task switcher, long press an entry until it turns into an icon and drop it where you want the window.
drag an icon from the sidebar(possibly the edge launcher now)
thanks. that's very helpful.
