[Q] Ubuntu in tab s? - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It's possible to run linux on android (google app store) app. And install ubuntu on the app and run the same using chroot. Will this be possible in any of the new roms that are posted in the developers area? Thanks for your answer, this will be principal factor in my decision to buy this device.

I don't see why not, you could even port native Ubuntu over with a little effort since the 5420 soc already has Linux ports.

Hmm. very interesting thanks for the info... Any hands on experience with "Complete Linux Installer" , "https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zpwebsites.linuxonandroid&hl=en" Running Linux native in the device sounds interesting, but running ubuntu on the same within android is exactly what I need at this moment. In some of the devices that I use to have especially with a original rom this process is not supported. If any body had done this process in the device and could advise will be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

just pull the trigger and buy one of this little tablet. will try and let everyone know if the installer works.

I tried it on the SM-T800 (WIFI) and it doesn´t worked at all because it cannot run the loop mode (?)
I´m trying linux on android for the first time so maybe someone can help me with it!
I need to figure out if it would be possible if i had another Kernel or another rom.
At the moment I´m running ThunderRom 800
Thanks in advance!

Same here. seems to need the ability to do a mount loop. any ideas.

I get "unable to create loopback device" error. Blows..

Does anybody knows the complete procedure to activate loop device on the smt800

Deving on a Mac

Hey guys I have been getting into a lot of modding and such I was wondering what programs you guys recommend using to develop apps, roms, mods and stuff like that on a mac. I just have one request; please don't tell me to get a windows computer. I can't afford it or I would.
Thanks for any help
For apps, you can easily install Eclipse and download all of the Android SDK bits.
You can also partition your hard drive and run Linux .
It's actually better to use a Mac than a PC. You don't really need any special apps or tools besides what comes in the SDK. And on a Mac, you can build android from source. You can't on a PC.
I have a Mac and I've used it for developing
Thanks for the quick replies. Can the SDK tools be used to tweak apks?

Dual boot Ubuntu and Android

As Canonical launch Ubuntu for phone today.. I'm pretty excited about this project and according to what he said, we will be able to download the first release within next 1 or 2 weeks.
My question is, since Android and Ubuntu share kernel and driver, is there any possible way to run dual boot on the same phone?
How would we know? You couldn't wait till it was out so we'd even know the install process?

Not arrogant; straight to the point. And Android doesnt share the same kernel as Linux. If they did, then Android would be in 3.8.x or 3.6.x stable.

There's a way to be straight to the point and not imply that the OP's question shouldn't have been asked. It was a good question. It's too bad that the semi-anonymous nature of the internet allows people to be ruder than they'd be in person. Forums are here for people to ask each other questions. That's the point of it all.
So to answer the OP's question, take a look at this. It's not really dual boot but you may find it interesting. I'm personally really excited about this.
http://www.ubuntu.com/devices/android.
Oh and regarding Ubuntu and Android not being able to share the same kernel, here's a quote from the above website:
"It lets Android and Ubuntu share the same Linux kernel, so they can run at the same time – Android for the phone experience and Ubuntu when docked."
I said android and Linux, not android and Ubuntu.
Sent from my i9250
I have dual boot Android and Ubuntu on my Infinity, and they share the same kernel...
I'm not quite sure what you mean by Android and Linux versus Android and Ubuntu?
Because Ubuntu isn't Ubuntu Mobile. And it isn't actually being run on your device it's being emulated.

How so?
Ubuntu (which is what the OP was about) can share a kernel with Android. This is proven by the post I linked to.
As to dual booting Ubuntu mobile and android, we'll have to wait.
Either way the OP was right about one thing: its very exciting.

[Q] Installing reaver or aircrack...

HI!
Now when it comes to features , the "flo" model is way better than nexus 7 (2012) BUT i saw that the previous model had the reaver and aircrack because of the bcm chipset inside .. are there any other similar apps in FLO except the pwn pad installation method....
When you say except the "pwn pad installation" you mean this method? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2577356.
If so, too bad, it's pretty damn cool.

Whether it is or not isn't the issue, the issue is getting the built-in wifi to go into monitor mode. There are claims that it has been done (assumign the hardward even supports monitor mode, one would have to use a kernel with a custom driver built in, or a kernel with loadable mod support which would load a custom module), you'll have to drudge through google and figure out if that has any merit or not, then work out how to implement it, if it's even viable.

i think it has been done .. after all the pwn pad method also uses elementax kernel .. the only thing which is stopping me is to buy tp-link adapter , which is out of stock for weeks in my country(india)...assuming flo has that hardware , isnt the built in chipset enough?

The same way you install anything else on android, download the apk and install it, it does not matter if you have a supported adapter or not...it just won't be able to open a wlan in monitor mode.

[Req] Windows 8 on Tab 3 10.1 !

Hi guys,
Well after succed running Ubuntu on Tab 3 10.1,
I suddently thought about Windows 8 :silly:
So, I firstly tried installing Windows 8 on KVM under Ubuntu 13. I got many problem, but I succeed installing it
After that, I bought a SDCard of 32Gb since Windows 8 requires at least 15Gb to install ! The IMG is about 20Gb.
Now, time for running on my Tab ! There the IMG won't boot at all !!!
I tried running it using SDL app and bochs.
One thing is pretty sure: The tab is Windows 8 capable since it's a x86 arch CPU
So anyone can please help me making a bochsrc.txt ? :fingers-crossed:
This is a great idea !

did you format card to ...?
does bosch/sdl error log?
just a thought, if you get a hal error/invalid/corrupt message when
you start it you're mostly there, it's the install that's boned.
i ran into that when i was trying to clone a windows install a while back.

Any one??? Would there be any other rom I could use for this device? Please help me out.
To my knowledge there are no ROMS because the 10.1 does not share the same architecture with the 8.4 (I am not a developer). That being said, there are multiple devices out there that use the Exynos architecture (http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/minisite/Exynos/showcase.html) so I believe it is only a matter of time.

Thanks for the reply! So basically there is no rom because there is a differeynt architecture. Could I possibly flash the Galaxy Tab 2 rom or something like that? See the problem is that many of games lag and the tablet gets warm. Home screen also has lag.

dunno about the 10.1, but I'd donate to have a rom for 12.2 (might be possible to share 10.1 with the 12.2 since they have the same processors?).

You can actually "turn off" some of the pre-installed apps without rooting. Go to Settings --> General --> Application manager.
However, not all of then can be turned off. Most of the "Samsung" apps could be turned off.

Hello ik4evr,
I write you here because i have not posting enough to be able to write in the rom section...
I want to thank you, i flash your ROM without problem it was exactly what i need to have a clean install.
I notice 3 points that occurs for me :
1) The google keyboard APK was not in MyFiles folder, so i took it from the net.
2) ROOT was not working, so i root it again by myself
3) When i check i tablet information the kernel seems to be the samsung original one.
Thanks,

I installed the rom after wiping /data /system /dalvik cache /cache. (Selected all except ext-card in Twrp)
Alle went well, but surprise, all my apps were still there.
The system is STATUS SE for Android: Enforcing SFEP-sm-t520-4.4.2_0009. I also have the new kernel which I already had.(cannot check it).
Is this ok?
Thanks for making this rom.
