Rhino Shield Owners - ONE Accessories

Has anyone been able to put their Rhino Shields to the test? Any near-death OnePlus One experiences where the Rhino Shield has saved you? Drops? Throws? Scratches? Etc..?

More or less the only impact where the Rhino shield will protect your device is if
a) your phone falls flat onto a piece/rock on the floor
b) you hip-bump your pocket+phone into the table
Most impacts will be sideways and the Rhino will not be able to rescue your phone. Only a good case might.
I do have a Rhino but rather sceptical about it's real-world benefits in most cases.

I realize this doesn't answer you question, however, I had one on my OnePlus One and it severely hindered touch screen responsiveness. Peeled it off after a week because I couldn't stand having to touch the screen multiple times for it to notice a touch... Scrolling through pages was even worse. Won't ever buy another Rhino Shield.

I agree. Expensive and won't buy again, but since I have it on I am leaving it because I want a screen protector. Are the other tempered glass ones any better/do they actually protect? (I am skeptical of rhino's claims, but it's better than nothing or an unknown)

Rhino Shield is better from direct impact. You could literally hit it with a hammer and I'm sure it wouldn't crack. But for side impacts or anything less severe, a tempered glass protector will be just as good. Plus you won't lose that glass feel.

Really? That's extremely weird. I had one on my iPhone and I currently have on my OnePlus One and I have absolutely zero touch issues. The reason I made this post was just to see if anyone has tested the actual durability of the protector.

I can't comment on how well they protect compared to any other screen protector. I always buy screen protectors for scratch protection and nothing else.
My buddy has a tempered glass protector, brand unknown to me, on his G3 and its awesome. Perfectly clear, does not interfere with sensitivity at all, and the best part, IMO, it doesn't feel like theres anything there being that it's glass.

I'd like to think I had one from a bad batch or something. Ill leave it at that. If I were to guess, I wouldn't expect it to save the screen from a common drop. They appear to be more designed to withstand a direct impact from something above. Like if you were drop something on top of it. I doubt it would save a screen if it landed on its corner.

If you're in the market for a tempered glass screen protector for the One, look into Orzly. I have one and have had no touch screen sensitivity issues whatsoever. The glass is crystal clear, and is oleophobic so it will do its best to resist oils and water that you may get on it, and anything that you do get on it along the lines of oil, etc. can be easily wiped off with a rag, shirt, etc.
This is my first tempered glass screen protector, and having used it for about 3 weeks now I can safely say that I'll never go back to anything else.

I have to disagree, I don't believe their marketing claim that it will withstand a direct blow from a hammer, sure the screen wont break but the energy goes somewhere. My issue with rhinoshield is its ability to get scratched up and look horrible. In that respect tempered glass or gorilla glass options outshine it immensely.

Rhino Shield Review

Got my Rhino Shield in the mail today and promptly applied it. Here's a short review of my experience with it thus far.
Fit
Coming from a Spigen Ultra Clear, which fit the Nexus 5 screen perfectly, I would say the Rhino Shield is not very accurately cut. It doesn't cover the glass entirely and this makes the application a bit more difficult as you struggle to center the protector on the glass such that hole on the screen protector aligns with the speaker hole. I gave up after a few tries and left the screen protector slightly misaligned to the right.
Furthermore, I noted that the curved edges (top and bottom) of the screen protector does not have the same curvature as the phone. It was slightly less curved than the phone, but doesn't cause any issues as the protector was cut smaller than the screen anyway.
Touch
After applying the Rhino Shield, I kept experiencing touch issues where the screen had issues tracking my swipes and multi-touch. Swipes in the app drawer would accidentally launch applications and trying to zoom in and out in the camera app using pinch zoom often triggered the camera settings circle menu instead.
Not sure if I need to let the protector settle or something as the protector is relatively thicker than normal polymer screen protectors. Will update again if touch responsiveness improves.
Conclusion
All in all, the Rhino Shield was quite a bit of a disappointment for me. The fit was not the level of quality I would expect from such a highly priced polymer/plastic screen protector, especially after having to remove a relatively fresh piece of Spigen Ultra Clear to make way for it.
Also, being tough and offering superb shatter resistance is pretty much meaningless if it causes issues with the touchscreen.
No pictures??

I saw some pictures of the rhino shield on a nexus 5 here: http://m.imgur.com/a/DsSqP
it seems to me like the fit/cut is near perfect. Maybe there is an issue with yours... You should contact them with a picture of your problem.
I would not be surprised if they used a Spigen Glass.t Slim to cut the Rhino Shield because it has the exact same cut. Thankfully Rhino Shield supplies good stickies for removing dust, unlike Spigen. Why, Spigen, why?
The Rhino Shield really shouldn't be compared to the Spigen Ultra Clear which offers minimal protection...and people who are "glass only" must have had some bad experiences with Zagg shields.
Removed the shield. The touch problems made it impossible for me to keep it on. So much for my money.

Not sure... I had some suspicions that it might have been my phone... but once I removed the Rhino Shield and put my Spigen Ultra Clear back on, touch was flawless again.
Wow, this sounds horrible. I ordered one after mentions on XDA about it. I really hope yours is a rarity, sorry about your loss.
Call/Email them, for the money they should make good on their product.
Anyone else having this problem?
I dont know but i have zero of the problems you mention here?
My rhino shield fits perfectly and i have no touch issues.
I love this protector. The surface is like glass and no fingerprints like with the cheap protectors

Hmmm. Strange how the majority of negative reviews I've seen around here are from accounts that are brand new or have super low post counts. I would definitely take these with a grain of salt. Keep an eye out for reviewers credibility before forming personal opinions.
No.....I dont work for Rhino, lol.
You are making me feel worried... but how could a 0.29mm thick plastic sheet hinder touch, while a 0.4mm thick glass does not?
Plus I've never read that RS has this issue in other phones.
Anyway you should email them for help. From their history they will very likely be sending out replacements if there is indeed an issue.

hate those troller!
My sister has a Rhino Shield on her black Nexus 5, and tells me that touch is definitely affected, although nowhere near as described by CubicU07. Multitouch, swipe still worked flawlessly. I've got the Spigen Glass.t Slim on my white Nexus 5, and did a little comparison. I only had to apply a tad little more force into touches on the Rhino Shield than the Spigen Glass.t Slim. Day to day use is uninhibited in both cases.
Not so smudge free...
After using my rhino shield on my nexus 5 for two weeks, the smudges on the screen are dissapointing, worse than before.
I've not checked the impact protection, fortunately.
Nicks
I've had the rhino shield for almost 3 weeks never dropped the phone and it's the only thing in that pocket, now I have a nick on the screen... which really sucks.
If it's worth anything, I just got mine today and applied it to my phone replacing an iSmooth HD protector (which was very highly rated on Amazon) and was a very decent screen protector.
I would have to say that application was one of the easiest and dust free experiences I've had on a phone (and I've installed tons of screen protectors from various vendors on my different phones).
So far, I don't notice any sort of "fit" issues -- everything lined up nicely. Also, no noticeable loss of touch or sensitivity. In fact, the screen seems a bit smoother than the protector I just replaced.
I don't have any experience with the Glass screen protectors, so I'm not sure how this compares - but in comparison to the the regular screen protectors, this has to be one of the nicest ones available -- plus with the added impact protection make this one a winner.
Pure rubbish. After 6 months of use, completely scratched. No drops, no keys in my pocket. I discourage it.

[Q] Ever use a tempered glass screen protector?

Well, I had to learn the lesson the hard way. It was night time and my niece wanted to catch some crawdads from the small creek in my brother's back yard. I put my phone in the pocket that had my keys (grr!) and crawled along the creekbed catching some crawdads for the kids. Well, the next day I noticed a small hairline scratch about 1cm long. Bummer! So my previously perfect M9 picked up it's first noticeable defect. :crying:
I read that the tempered glass screen covers will tend to make small scratches less visible and provide protection from future scratches. The one I am looking at is 0.33mm thick, so it will still create a bit of a "lip" at the top and bottom of the phone, but the case I use should cover the sides. I never put a screen protector on my M7 and after 1.5 years it was still in very good condition. Perhaps I should just be more careful in the future.
A couple questions:
Does anybody have experience using them with the M9?
Are they easy to remove?
Worth $10 and the hassle?
Thanks
Tried Tempered Glass on my G3 and never looked back.
Unparalleled screen clarity, easy to remove, easily worth the money. Just fit it slowly and carefully
Can't comment on it covering scratches though
I would say the money is worth it. I have one on my M9. They are easy to install just follow the steps. I personally, even if the glass protector on, never put my phone in a pocket with my keys or change or anything. the only thing in front right pocket is my phone and nothing else. this is the one I used http://www.amazon.com/Tech-Armor-Premium-Ballistic-Protector/dp/B00U6EZGCC hope this helps

I use tech armor as well and used cailifu on my s5. Both work great. And haven't gotten a single scratch. Even when trying. Plus the warranty is awesome. My wife's broke 3 of them and I haven't even paid shipping for the replacements. And her phone still looks brand new.

The first thing I did when getting my M9 was to order a Spigen GlasTr screen protector. Though I tend to be careful with my phone, and I have a Seido case/holster, if it weren't for the Spigen glass protector, I would have surely broken my screen. I accidentally 'bobbled' it and the phone landed screen down on my (tile) countertop, chipping the protector. Had it not been there, I would definitely have a chipped or broken screen.
I can't say if applying a protector to your screen will help. I would just rely on the 'Uh,Oh' protection and request a new phone... and then immediately put a screen protector on the replacement. Yes, they're very easy to remove, but not so easy to install. See my guide here: CLICKY - it might help.
Just my two cents.

Solid feedback. I try to not keep the phone in my pocket as well, but given that I would be leaning over water, the shirt pocket (a common place for it) was out of the question and I didn't have convenient spot to set it down (outside around a fire). The good news is that the scratch is very minor (I've stopped noticing it) and I have a feeling that the screen protector will diminish its appearance. I'm going to hold onto the Uh Oh protection in the event that something really bad happens.
I'll review your guide for tips on the install.
Thanks again!

Not just that but thankfully HTC haven't curved their screens, so there is no halo effect, for example, my last phone the Note 4 had the halo effect, absolutely horrible design floor.
I had the 9H brand on my M8 for the whole year and definitely worth it, so I ordered the 9H again same day I ordered my Dev Edition and installed it soon as I opened the M9 Box.
But I can't speak on the removal as I have never had to take it off for nothing..

as above. It's just like you're using the standard glass screen of the phone. I was worried that due to its slight increase in thickness it would perhaps affect the usage of my dot view case (being able to make calls to last few callers etc) but it works as it should. perfectly definately recommend them over plastic ones any day.
You guys have convinced me. I am going for the tempered glass next time I pass the shop.

Lol, this is a weird thing to read. How does a glass screen protector hurt your eyes? Unless you get it stuck in your eye? If a screen protector has been fitted correctly and its not super thick then you shouldn't have a single problem.

Tempered glass touch sensitivity - the truth?

Hi Guys,
Quick question. I realize I didn't go for an expensive tempered glass protector, however, looking for the most honest answer on losing any touch sensitivity with even the high end, tempered, curved tempered glass protectors... Do you lose sensitivity when you installed yours?
On flat screen phones in the past, I haven't had this issue, however with this phone, I notice a significant deal of touch sensitivity, especially when I'm trying to use it when it's laying flat on a table and I'm trying to swipe at it at am angle.
Looking for honest answers... No matter how expensive your protector yours was... Thank you!
Depends on how well the TGSP sits on the phone.
I haven't heard of any touch sensitivoty issues with full adhesive ones like the whitestone dome.
The ones with only adhesive on the borders, you might lose sensitivity if for example the glass in the middle lifts/not sitting flat or if the vendor used some crap material.
I have only had experience with the Olixar and some no name brand from the local shop, both side adhesive and both were fine on sensitivity
Tempered glass touch sensitivity
Probably, this might depend on the quality of tempered glass screen protector that you are using. Its installation also matters the most. See to it whether it has fit your phone perfectly or not.
So far I haven’t heard any such issues and I personally haven’t faced any such problems.
Try the TGSP from Otium on Amazon. It's cheap & pretty good. It's also case-friendly.

Got it, thanks for reporting your experience bud.
Guys,
This is the best solution I have found (for the price), a full screen adhesive TGSP for £9.00.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Samsung-...341497?hash=item2f0d1b14b9:g:CFIAAOSw3WxaRXwn
No loss in sensitivity no dot matrix on screen, and is case friendly too. Although this technically is for the S* with their identical screen dimensions, this should work on the S9 too.
And no, its not like the other cheap TGSP on the market as this one sticks entirely to the glass with no gaps.
Give it a try.

Is it really adhesive across the *whole* screen? It's an amazing price. Is it real glass or some sort OF Tough plastic? Can you scratch it with something sharp, like a knife? Do you have a manufacturer website URL?

Yes it really is full screen adhesive, and yes it really is glass.........but.......it is some sort of glass/plastic composite, which has the hardness of tempered glass (so no, you can't scratch it), but a little elasticity and flex like plastic, which is actually needed to fit the protector to the phone. I know its definitely glass, as this is my second one, and when removing the first one (phone fell out of my pocket whilst cycling and TGSP shattered on one edge) the whole thing shattered like TGSP are supposed to. Will post some pictures later today when I get the chance, but after almost a year of trying different varieties, TGSP with glue around edges, TPU ones, PET ones etc, I have to say that for the money this is the best solution I've found. The only one I can imagine that is better than this would be the whitestone one, however, this is easier to install, and a fraction of the price too!

Question Just installed a glass screen protector and FPR won't recognize

I did the steps people have said to do like increase touch sensitivity and re add all the fingers I would use but it still won't work. I don't know who made this protector since I got it off a marketplace site and when I met with the person all he gave me was the screen protector. It was only $5 i got it for so no big deal if it's ****.
Other than that it feels good and everything else works fine.
There are some other threads on here about glass screen protectors. The majority don't work with FP, but there are some that do. Check those threads for info.
In general you need to go for the UV glued type..... All the ones with just glue on the edges will leave an air gap between screen and glass, this heavily impedes with FP functionality.....
Is the brand on Google's approved list?

The air gap has nothing to do with it, the Pixel 6 with its perfectly flat screen has the same problems, my wifes Spigen one has rendered her FPS useless.

I'm not disputing that, i was just clarifying the Pixel 6 suffers the same problem even with a flat screen.
Never had a problem with a 1+ phone using a glass protector over the FPS even with the cheapest crap i could find so as far as i am concerned all the reasons Google are coming out with are absolute cobblers.
So should I just take this thing off or wait for a software update from Google?
I for myself have installed a TPU screen protector presently, awaiting delivery of a UV glass protector as I like those more
I'd hope Google improves the behaviour of the FPS, in how far however I don't know.....
I am currently using the below TPU screen protector and could not be happier with it. My fingerprint scanner works nearly every single time and I have not had an issue. Once the screen protector has been properly applied (I admit, I screwed it up the first time) I cannot even tell that it is on my screen visibly or by touch.
Having said that, I am a little concerned that a TPU screen protector is not as good in general as a glass one. I have not had an issue yet, but I also have not had an accidental drop or anything.
I will also say that I have registered each of my thumbs twice. I will get an occasional "longer" read, and by longer, maybe a half a second longer. However, I have noticed that when that happens, my thumb is slightly out of the read circle. When my thumb is dead center, it reads it every time really quickly.
I am not all that excited about a UV glass protector as I have read horror stories of discoloration and some users not being able to get them off.
Supposedly Google has released their approved screen protectors list. I am not about to spend 50 bucks on a Zagg. The one for Panzer was more reasonable, but it disappeared off their website. The Otterbox is another TPU and I like the one I have:
Amazon.com
I might just take this off and use nothing. I didn't use a protector for my s7 edge or s10+ and didn't get a single scratch. I only got it because I wanted to preserve the oilyaphobic coating. This thing only cost me $5 in the end

yes, it makes zero difference.
Typically with curved screens, you need a full-screen adhesive in order for the FPR to work after installation. Either that, or one with edge adhesive with an area over the reader that also sticks to the screen, but I personally think those are kinda ugly. For the regular P6, my girlfriend ordered a brand called "TOCOL" for a glass protector, which is working great all around.
If/when Whitestone Dome releases one for the P6P, that will be the only really good option. It's either that, or buy an edge adhesive style one, buy LOCA glue and a UV lamp, and DYI it. Only way you're going to have glass and a working FPR.
I'm using a TPU protector and a case. TPU has come a long way tbh, the dry install ones I got feel like a naked screen and give me some piece of mind in regard to small scratches. The case does the rest as far as drop protection. Victus Glass is pretty good for shatter resistance generally, but crap for scratches.
OP, I would remove that one if you want to use the Fingerprint Reader. There isn't a software update that's going to solve that problem unfortunately. I'd just use a decent TPU for now and if you really want glass after you try it still pray for Whitestone Dome. There's another thread on here dedicated to working protectors, I'd check that out and pick one.

Hi all, I have a few questions around tempered glass screen protectors for curved screens like the Pixel 6 Pro, I was wondering if people had any answers to: Are there any known brands that do good quality curved tempered glass screen...

If you prefer the 9H glass protectors, you'll have to find a glass protector that is "Google certified" to work with fingerprint reader.
These are glued to the screen to make 100% positive contact with the glass protector.
I'm guessing you have a 9H glass protector like mine that has a very small air gap between the screen and the protector. Even with the enhanced fingerprint reader setting, my fingerprint reader doesn't pick up anything.
The TPU flexible protectors supposedly work well, but I like the 9H glass protectors.
The Google Certified 9H glass protectors that I've found are between $15 - $39 per protector, and many of them are "out of stock" at the moment.

The air gap has nothing to do with it, the Pixel 6 with its perfectly flat screen has the same problems, my wifes Spigen one has rendered her FPS useless.

Yeah it's only the Pro model that has curved screens and requires UV glue protectors, which there is currently none available until Whitestone Dome releases. I managed to get this and it works perfectly but it's already out of stock [3 Pack]Google Pixel 6 Pro Screen Protector,Akcoo Liquid UV Tempered Glass [Full Screen Adhesive][Edge to edge coverage][Compatible with fingerprint sensor] for Pixel 6 Pro 6.7 inch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09KC72DW...abc_YW4QX456AX8GJ33BV928?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Have you tried to delete the finger print and add a new one?

Accessories Screen Protector for OnePlus 11!

Suggest me a good quality screen protector to get for the OnePLus 11 which I'm going to get on 7th Feb!
As always for, a real good quality is glass screen protector from Aliexpress, 2pcs for around 10-15USD, glue and UV light.
I have used cheap chinese glass protectors for my Iphone 12, OP7Pro, OP 8T and always was very happy with them.
The only other and real alternative for me is a synthetic sapphire glass protector for ~100USD. All the other protector between them are pretty much the same in the long run.

Isn't that the UV and glue protector sticks completely like a superglue and it's very hard to remove it, saw some videos about them.
I've seen the Sapphire glass protector it is great but too expensive for me! I've my eyes on Spigen, Gadgetshieldz screen guard, and ESR but I want a user experience so I can buy one for my phone.

Not at all, they are quite easy to remove. At least Mocolo ones.

I believe the screen is exactly the same size? The protector fits perfectly on the screen.

Nice, I'll check out some tempered glass brands, or else I'm going to get a film protector from Gadgetshieldz because the tempered glass on a curved-display phone will break more easily than on a flat-screen phone! I've seen reviews on drop tests where the glass breaks because the case will not fully cover the curved edges.
I don't use screen protector.
After 4 years using a 6T, i just got a very thin line only visible under light and close inspection. Moreover, a 45Kg dummbell fell exactly over the screen phone (it was on the floor) and....crystal clear, not even a single mark or damage/deformation on the screen. ¿The almost invisible scratch? Carrying both phone and keys toguether, or even worse but it's plausible. I also owned the Nexus 4/5 and Moto Z Force and don't remember any scratch, at least no one to be concerned.
It's not the answer to you question but just a suggestion, don't spoil the touch/slide feeling, cleariness, and clean look of a naked screen. Of course you can get one of those stupid pseudo-"tempered glass" 9H (it's actually cheap polymer plastic), ... or a simple plastic one wich will be always shady due to have dozens of fingerprints (it's oil after all) without remedy) and will left a yellowish tint over the surface of the crystal (this is a fact, not my subjective impression).
Oh, i remember my Nexus 4, i also thought screen protector was a must, well after a year, i gor rid of it (the tint left by the plastic was there) and never looked behind.
And now we (I) have a more shadows fae beyond like turning a 799$ high end phone (Apple/samsung/former Huawei/etc consider OP10 not a high end (i don't want to say flagship) a mid range ) in a 206g brick.
Bumper case is another story. Now using the 1+ Sandstone and the same issue as with OP6T again, ****, the slider is almost unreachable to be operated propertly. I have been using a generic silicon case while i was waiting the new case, and slider hole was fine, hey, 1,89$ in AliExpress. I just bought it (the same) from Amazon for 10€, of course returned it with a random excuse when i got the new case. I will probably order half a dozen from Ali just to try.
I wass expecting the horror with ColOrxygenOS, but for the moment i havent suffered a stroke

I've never used screen protectors either. I've got 2 front pockets - one for my keys and one for my phone. It's not that hard. Anything that would actually damage the screen would shred the protector and damage your screen anyway. I've never had any scratches on my screens and a screen protector is not going to save you from an unlucky drop. I really don't see the point.
Stopped counting how many times I dropped my phone and it was saved by a glass screen protector - I would probably say dozens of time and I usually go through 2-3 protectors on each phone in average, depending how long I can live with a look of cracked protector before replacing it.
With typical, accidental drops the additional glass layer absorbs the impact and the phone just bounces of the impact area. In my personal experience for last 10 years with HTC M7, M9, Oneplus 7 Pro, Oneplus 8T and iPhone 12, I have never encountered a drop forceful enough to penetrate the protective layer and damage the actually screen glass under it.
Sure, it is possible but never happened to me when dropping phone from front jacket pocket heights, pants pocket height, going in or out of the car with a phone in the hand, pushing the phone from shelf or the bathroom sink etc.
Last week I removed my uv glass screen protector from OP7Pro that I was preparing for a trade in and it looked perfect and if I would want to trade it locally I would get a slightly better price for a mint condition screen rather than a used one for 5 years.
I've had pretty good luck with film over the years and the ONLY reason I started using them is they don't attract finger prints as bad as glass.

For some reason I started using tempered glass ones for the year I had an iphone 12 pro. I broke like 4 of them, it was ridiculous. I stopped using them after a few months and never did manage to hurt the screen, even though I broke the "protectors" left and right. And I use my phones in industrial applications (Im an industrial maintenance tech), they take some abuse.
Fwiw this phone comes with a film protector already applied out of the box. I haven't removed it yet and it's been fine so far.

Exactly. I'll leave the pre-installed screen protector on until it looks like ****. But when it's time to take it off, I won't replace it. Did the same with my 6T.
I see here people have said the 10 pro screen protectors fit, now that a lot more people have the phone has anyone tried this with any tempered glass ones with success?
Any OnePlus 10 Pro screen protector will work on the 11 since the screen (in physical size) is the same.
I use film protectors for a couple of years now and pretty happy with them
SmartDevil on aliexpress released good film protectors for a fair price

4 days ago I ordered the SmartDevil glass since it seems to be a chinese copy of Whitestone glass with the entire bundle (minus the glue foams for the bracket).
I ordered also 2 no name glass screens on 9th of February but it still in shipping, no idea if it will be delivered.
I was curious about the SmartDevil bundle so we will see how much does it actually helps and what is the quality of the bracket.

Yes, tempered glasses always break often so as I said before a film protector and a case covering the edges of the screen is enough for protection!
