As I have experienced first hand, T-Mobile's wifi calling feature works amazing on my Note 3. The problem is, where I live, work and play we do not get any T-Mobile service above 2g, and mostly nothing at all. I'm actually confused as to why local stores are even selling the service. It simply doesn't work here. Anyhow, I had purchased a month of prepaid service with them because I don't get ANY service from any provider at my home (except Verizon, who comes in at 5 bars in my basement). The wifi calling feature was amazing for this one reason. I never missed a call, or text and life was good. Of course, the moment I left the house my $800.00 Note 3 turned into a very expensive makeup mirror for my wife because, like I mentioned, we don't get T-Mobile here, at all. I still have 2 weeks of the service active, and put the sim into my i-747 S3 for testing.
I'm currently running Hyperdrive RLS3.1 (NB4) on AT&T Go-Service on my Note 3.
What I'm asking is simple, or maybe it isn't -
I would like to know where I could find info on a REAL wifi calling service. Not these 3rd party apps that give you a new free #, etc. I'd like something that integrates into the phone, like TM Wifi calling does. After searching this topic on XDA, I found a few threads on SIP VoIP. I'd even be willing to give that a shot. If I have to invest a few dollars, that is also ok. Has anyone else successfully done this? Any better idea's or suggestions? I'm tired of not being able to make calls from my cell phone at home. I have looked into repeaters, extenders, etc, but that is for another thread, I suppose.
I know that the native wifi calling on my Note 3 will not work with AT&T, but there must be something that can work....

Real WiFi calling has to be supported on the back end by the carrier.
You are going to be limited to a 3rd party solution.

I also started using magicjack on my phone. After trying out several voip SIP services with the native android app, I realized that it would never have the sound quality I needed.
This is all null and void now though. I retired my N900T and bought the Verizon Note 3 and never drop signal or lose LTE, even in my basement.
100% not possible. It relies on servers at T-Mobile's end. Plus the settings in the Wifi Calling app are set to T-Mobile's servers on top of that.

Not really sure how to properly start a bounty thread, and direction is appreciated. Also don't know if this is even possible as I know porting wifi calling has proven to be nearly impossible on other devices, e.g. Nexus S. However, doesn't hurt to ask and I know it was done on Nexus One. Am using Galaxy Nexus on TMo, if that makes any difference.
Really, desperately need wifi calling for reception purposes in my apartment. Left TMo's Galaxy S2 for the Galaxy Nexus, love everything about it except lack of reception in home.
I know I can utilize Google Voice, but I need to be able to use my TMo number for both incoming and outgoing calls as well as texts, and not interested in porting my mobile number to Google.
I'm willing to fork over $100 for working wifi calling, if anyone is up to the challenge... if even possible...
Also, if anyone has alternate suggestion (not Google Voice, something that utilizes TMo mobile number, would be GREATLY appreciated!!

I use Groove IP app exclusively for calls, both over wifi and 3G/HSPA+. I am on the T-mobile $30/unlimited data/100min plan, so it is a must for me. It works great! and only a few bucks on the market. You will need a Google Voice account, and to set it to ring Google Talk, and maybe a little other setup, but it is pretty simple.

Verizon has a network extender that plugs into your home internet connection. It gives you a cell signal in your house and routes it over the internet back to Verizon. There is no monthly fee just a charge of the device. $250 i think. Maybe TMo has a similar device.

TMo does have a signal booster device, but it cannot be implemented in shared-wall structures (i.e. apartment buildings). Also, have many places, such as family homes, with lousy in-door coverage where wi-fi calling makes all the difference in the world.
i called tmo last month i fact complaining of a low signal in my town home. they sent me a signal booster for free.. from 1 bar downstairs to now 5 bars

Well I'm not scared of the signal booster police!
Unfortunately they check your address to verify. NO, I don't know if/how they can verify ALL shared wall structures, but for someone like me with "Apt. 5J" attached to my address it's not difficult. The issue is you need to register your address in case of emergency, as 911 cannot definitely and accurately determine your address if making a call using signal booster. So the issue is that if a neighbor picks up your signal without knowing and makes an emergency call, 911 may not be able to identify address. I know it's a long shot but it's not MY rule. And afaik, you cannot lock the signal to exclude others as you can with wifi.

CM team has used it a ton. Maybe they'll implement it in their CM9 rom. But I suspect they'll be busy just ironing out the bugs for a while.

You're correct that wifi calling is very proprietary to T-Mobile and from what I understand (I'm not a developer whatsoever), is extremely difficult to impossible to port. I've been watching them try it on Nexus S since its release a year ago.
Unfortunately T-Mobile won't make it available to a non-branded TMo phone so unless Galaxy Nexus is released directly by TMo (which I doubt will happen), it won't happen even when they update it for their own ICS devices.
ALso, TMo did in fact change the implementation of their wifi calling- it's already been released on new devices such as TMo Galaxy S2 and HTC Amaze. However they are not and will not be charging for it (in fact they've again enabled free calls that don't use plan minutes when calling on wifi), it has just changed the way it's handled (better performance). Little to no noticeable change to end users.
Would be great if CM team get it working on Galaxy Nexus!

The problem on the Nexus S has nothing to do with the Wifi Calling app (which is actually made by Kineto), the problem is the radio interface layer (from Samsung) which is a binary blob. It does not support what the Wifi calling software requires to work (authentication calls mainly). Kineto blames Google for not "requesting" this feature from Samsung.
Getting the Kineto app up and working was really not that difficult. The only thing that needed to be changed was an audio library because the constructor was changed from Froyo to Gingerbread. That had nothing to do with the Kineto/Wifi calling software other than it used that constructor.

I use my own asterisk box, but I'm sure a pbxes account would work for you. Just use the built-in sip client on the galaxy nexus.

Hello- I live in a crappy area for reception to say the least! T Mobile seems to be the best option as I have a great Ubiquiti WIFI network setup up at the House- For whatever reason I have been missing a ton of calls and text's when on WIFI calling with the S6.
I didn't seem to have the same issues with the iPhone 6? Any others experiencing the same issues? Do you guys have any suggestions?

Yes, I am not rooted and my S6 edge shows "missed calls" when on Wifi. The phone doesnt even ring. It happens most of the time.

I am rooted. TWRP installed. Stock Kernel. Absolutely NO issues with WiFi calling. In fact on all my older Galaxy devices including my S5 I always had issues. So far call quality superb. No WiFi calling issues.
At this particular hour I'm not rooted, wifi calling has worked fine except for one glitch, when I initiate a call overseas it almost invariable fails but if I dial again it goes right through. No idea what to make of that.
Alright, I am rooted now...let's see if that does anything to Wifi calling. Still have stock recovery and kernel.
Yep, two phones, both have them. Tried to get a replacement, but the guy was being a corporate line tower and it really irritated me that I spend 2.5 hrs dealing with him and driving 38 miles to and from just to get home with nothing. I refuse to pay a restocking fee. Nobody had a white S6 Edge 32 GB. I got stuck with a Black on Thursday due to a lack of stock. Great customer service, right..... The idiot manager asked me "what do I get by giving you a phone from my inventory and lose money and get in trouble for it?" I said it's a customer satisfaction thing. What kind of a person think it's reasonable to lose 10% battery life with a 1 hr phone call on Wifi calling?
If you're missing calls it's because of your WiFi connection. When you have a bunch of devices using the same WiFi they kinda take priority over the phone so you miss calls. Go into a Tmobile store and ask for a FREE WiFi router. It is designed to prioritize WiFi calling over everything else. I have one and it works great
My issue is that no one can hear me and sometimes I can't hear them. It happened on my iPhone 6 Plus too and not just at my house.

I have just received my third Galaxy S6. I am unable to receive calls about 90% of the time on WIFI. I have the tmobile wifi cellspot router; it makes no difference. I am 4 feet from the router with a perfect connection. My 3 year old HTC One S has no problem making and receiving calls on the network or on the WIFI connection. None of my phones have been rooted. I also tried the SIM card replacement. No dice. This is discouraging.

It's my understanding that these features (advanced calling, like WiFi calling and VoLTE) Doo not work on unbranded devices like Pixel and others. This was the case with my unbranded SM935F or Galaxy S7 Edge until we got some files, an appropriate CSC, and also had AT&T switch our account to an IMEI of an AT&T branded device that had working WiFi Calling (others have apparently just called AT&T and had them provision WiFi Calling)
Note: for me, I have a business account so I could just go into my business portal and put in an IMEI that I got from an S7 Edge model in an AT&T store
I am attaching the files that we needed to add to our system to get WiFi calling to work on AT&T. I think I remember all I had to do was to add them and make sure permissions were correct
Here is an IMEI that I saw on another post that may work ..... But I do know that the AT&T system needs to recognize your phone IMEI as an att branded device that has working WiFi calling. So if you aren't business customers it will require a call to customer support.

I obviously could be wrong ...... But I'm 99% sure that what you are saying is not true for AT&T and maybe even other USA carriers!
I KNOW that I'm right for S7 phones and ROMs .... And the problem is so pervasive that they have even been able to get unbranded S8's to obtain WiFi Calling on AT&T or other USA carriers (even though WiFi calling works great on branded S8 phones)
AT&T users a different mechanism to provision WiFi calling than other carriers

You are correct that AT&T does not allow unbranded phones to use those features. It's all BS too. I have great LTE coverage but many times I will go to make a call and have crap service because they have canabalized a lot of the hsdpa towers for LTE. Then the switch back to LTE can take forever. And I don't care what they or anyone says AT&T's hspa+ is no where near as fast
None of this works, as AT&T blocks access to VoLTE on Pixel phones. Denies me the use of Numbersync for my tablet and android wear 2.0 watches. AT&T service techs keep promising to fix it and try to force it to work, but still blocked. It is simply a situation for Google to get the Pixel certified for the AT&T network, which is problematic, as AT&T uses a non-standard protocol for HD Voice that is unique to their network. So, as best I can tell, AT&T has to release the source code, for a price, I presume, to Google to add to the phones and then pay for the certification process with the FCC. Seems a stand-off as long as Google has an "exclusive" arrangement with Verizon. So for me, I'm pissed not to have numbersync for my devices, but unwilling to give up all the advantages of the Pixel phone.
That's why I switched to T-Mobile.
So there is no way to get VoLTE on the Pixel XL with AT&T then?

I doubt it. They only support advanced features on devices sold by them so it's not as if older Pixels will suddenly be grandfathered in just because they start carrying newer ones.
This annoys me to no end... If I buy a phone from att, do they have to give me an unlock code when the phone is paid off? I really need WiFi calling for a trip I make multiple times a year

I was able to get the code the same day or next for the att Note 8 that was bought from Samsung. The device is paid off.

Yeah according to a rep I spoke with, the pixel 2 will support Numbersync even though att isn't selling them. There are, however, no plans to change the restriction on the original pixels.
I'm in the same boat but I'm genuinely curious - if I don't need wifi calling - is it really a big deal not having VoLTE? I'm taking in terms of better signal or faster LTE internet speed. Or does VoLTE is just having clearer phone calls? I guess what I'm asking is what other benefits are we losing (on a technical standpoint)

Late response but as far as AT&T goes besides VoLTE what I experienced on my Pixel XL was random issues with group text (MMS) reception from certain individuals from other carriers.
In particular it seemed as though if senders of MMS texts to a group chat that I was participating in sent a text from a carrier like T-Mobile and they were using Samsung devices with VoLTE and enhanced LTE stuff enabled on their end I'd not receive the text. I would instead receive texts from others in the conversation. I could freely text any of the same individuals in a separate standard SMS conversation just fine, and they could send me an MMS text like a photo, but as soon as we were in group MMS I'd lose the ability to receive their texts and no amount of APN changes or combinations of texting apps would fix it.
I can't tell you how many times over the course of the first 5 months of owning my Pixel XL with an AT&T SIM in it I missed out on half the conversation in group MMS. Doing nothing to my phone other than porting number to T-Mobile and putting in my new T-Mobile SIM all of my group MMS issues went away (replaced with ****ty signal LOL but that's a different story). I'm now on Verizon with my XL and am a happy camper, albeit poorer having wasted money jumping around.
Someone has confirmed wifi calling working on the 3 XL on ATT, if that's true shouldn't we be able to get it working on the 2/XL? Is it IMEI related? Even if so, if I were on a rom that had wifi calling and swapped a sim in it from a Note 9 or something it would work at least until the system detects the imei and updates it, which isn't always the case or all that fast to happen.

I think it's garbage that At&t ran this whole campaign "Google Pixel works on At&t" yet they won't release all their features to the users. I had to beg them for HD calling. Finally after a week they activated it. This stuff should be automatic and available to everyone. I pay the same amount as an iPhone user
This has me sitting with mixed feelings. I have really bad AT&T reception in my basement and really need WiFi calling. I don't want to spend so much money upgrading from a 2 XL to 3 just for this though.. (granted, I like the non-XL 3 form factor better..)
Seems like poor customer perception to enable this finally on the 3 phones when the 1 and 2 fully support this other than AT&T flipping a switch on the other end. I'm glad they finally are allowing the 3s.. but..

Two steps. Took me a while to figure it out
Contact ATT and ask them to enable it on your IMEI (that's the critical part). Eventually you get through to someone who logs it and puts you through to the right department, and it takes a few weeks, and eventually you get an SMS saying your issue is solved. (I dont kow why they make it so difficult, as an unlocked iPhone gets it)
But that's not enough.
You then have.to then put your SIM in an iPhone and enable wifi calling. For some reason, it provisions the system. If you dont have an iphone, go into an ATT store and ask to do it on one of their iPhones. But it can be any iPhone, locked or unlocked.
I now have voLTE and often I see HD come up when I'm on a call. You can test it to see if it is working. When you are on LTE - dial voicemail and if your data drops to H then you dont have it. If it stays on LTE then you do.
Occasionally I lose it and have to put the Sim in an iPhone again, and re enable wifi calling just to get it back.

Thanks. I have an SM-N975UI.
I've contacted ATT 2X on this, and went up to a Level 2 Tech the second time. Both times I've been told that they can't provision it on my unlocked Note 10+. That is really sad on such an expensive phone; and I've been with ATT for about 30 years.
Now, my wife does have a locked ATT iPhone. If I put my SIM in her phone, will it provision my SIM? I just want the HD Voice. No interest in WiFi calling.
You can but try!!! You may not want wifi calling, but it seems it's the provision of that which enables VOlte. I don't know why. Hence why the iPhone is the route as it has a setting to enable WIFII CALLING that takes you to an active E911 form.
Be persistent with ATT. Try their chat app. Don't give up! I don't think it's a technical support thing. Ask for account manager and tell them you want to leave ATT. They react much faster and more active responses.
