[Q]SM-T211 battery drain problems - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have a problem with this tablet , when i charge it to 100% and use it for like 5-10mins i'm suddenly at 1% battery. But i can still use youtube or other apps for 40mins + So i'm pretty sure the battery is at 95% or something.
Also when i charge and stop charging it can reset the whole thing and say that i have 2% battery.
I already tried to charge 100% > let it decharge 40-50% > power off 5houres > but didn't help..
Somebody said remove the battery for 5mins and problem is gone..
Anyone done this so far?
i'm on STOCK ROM , no root or what so ever.. NO battery save app or something like that.

Hi, I'm having the same issue but it's not as dire as yours. Since you're not rooted or anything, I strongly believe it's a hardware issue, try replacing your device cause it shouldn't drain that fast. I'm using nolekat rom and it takes me 10 hours to charge fully or more but half the time for it to be drained. I haven't tried removing my battery manually but you could try that too. Most likely it's a hardware issue since you didn't mess with it so much. Hope this helps.

Hi,
My tab is getting switched off frequently though the battery is fully charged, it suddenly dies down during any kind of work and im not having battery draining problem in my tab. But when I plug in a charger or battery bank then the tab works fine with out shut downing. Is this problem related to battery or hardwire or software. Kindly suggest if some one facing similar situation

Hi XDA
I have another problem, not too bad as yours, but very nagging and upsetting. What happens is that my tabet takes practically half a day for charging up the battery. It takes like 12 or more hours to charge up from 0 to 100%. I have tried unplugging the battery as you explained many times, also draining it, but nthing changes. And even worse it is when I'm just plugging my device after totally drained the battery, so when I try to boot my device it may boot up, when it does, after one minute it's turning off because of a suposedly 0% battery. Really I might get either that 0% or 1% battery, but after a minute when I just plug it in and boot up, it may turn off even though I turned off the sceen inmediately.
I think. the problen is maybe on the battery or in the USB port, I have tested many USB cables, many chargers, charging from my PC, but the problem keeps going an and on and on. I would like to know why this problems is happening, if I could fix it up by myself, for instance by replacing the battery or the USB port. This device was a gift, and since I got it I was dithering whether it was normal or not, but by asking soome mates and reading your post I realize that this is not normal.
Hope you read this quick reply. Many thanks for your advice and giving me advice on what and how I should do...

Changing the USB flex cable worked for me, try to buy one and watch some good tutorial about how to replace your tablet's components.

[Q] Need help

So I'm currently using the Suarom ROM, and for the most part it's been working fine. Suddenly I have a problem. Last night I plug my phone in to charge and suddenly it won't charge. I tried with two separate chargers.
It's still a new phone, so I can bring it in for warranty work. I just want to make sure I take all the steps necessary to "un void" the warranty. I'm a Rogers customer. If anyone can help I'd appreciate it.
Theres a thread in the DEV section that provides instructions of how to completely un-root and restore your device to factory before you turn it in for services.
The only problem is, my battery is at ten percent with no way to charge. The strange thing is that when I plug the phone in, the charging symbol appears. Just doesn't charge. Any idea why that would be ?

Tried different chargers? maybe plug it up to your PC see if you can get some juice that way? i can see the cable/charger going bad before the usb port on the phone ( but **** happens ) 10 percent should be good enough to get your phone back to stock though, i did it at 7 percent not to long ago, you just cant play around you have to click and run and get it done so it does not die. then if it dies after at least you are stock and can just turn it back in. but to be honest for a charger problem i VERY SERIOUSLY doubt they will be looking at Software and roms. thast a defect, and i think they will just do a clean swap----JUST LET IT DIE so they can not turn it back on in the store..lol
Ya could have a derpy battery and the phones fine.

Yeah, I have tried three chargers with no luck. Haven't tried a PC yet but will after work.
So if I'm getting the lightning bolt charging symbol, odds are it'llbe the battery rather than the port?
take it to best buy or an at&t store....and just say, hey i think i may have a bad battery do you have one i can use to see if my phone will power on and recognize the charger after it is plugged in. then you will know, unless you have an extra battery just laying around.
I had a similar problem like this before. Try charging with the phone off.
OR
If you want to troubleshoot and isolate the problem, try getting an external battery charger and a spare battery.
If you charge your stock battery and it charges with the external charger, your phone may be the problem. If not, then it's the stock battery.
And with the spare battery, try charging it via phone charger.
These are the possible ways I can think of at the moment. Hope this helps!

[Q] sorry for the repeat - Charging Issues

I would like to apologize beforehand for bringing up a problem they may have been posted here several times.
My S3 has taken 4 hours to charge 60% yesterday was fine as usual 100% within 3 hours. Before I start doing any factory resets or downloading calibrating apps, I wanna ask is there anyway to check if this is a device problem or a cable problem?
I'm using the usb that came with it. I also want to ask others how long is the life of their stock cable? is there any soft spots where i bend it once the whole cable may be useless (just like the psp)?
Could be an app running making your battery charge slower? Try charging with airplane mode on or with your phone off...Does it charge regularly then?

[Q] Battery Problem

So there is this problem with my HOX.
Every time my battery goes down below 20% my phone switches off itself if i use more than 2-3 apps simultaneously.
I am not able to use phone below 20% most of times as soon as i plug in, I can use it again :/ weird!
This has been occurring for a while a now.
I have tried flashing different roms but still the problem persists.
Is there an issue with my battery? Or is it something else?
Although the Gsam Battery Monitor shows thats battery is good.
Any thoughts?
Any help is much appreciated!

Don't know if this will help and may be unrelated, but is the battery charging ok? I have been working on a friends HOX which is having battery issues, in a similar problem it keeps shutting down before the battery runs out, and was seming to charge ok, but the battery drained quite quickly after charging. In the end I replaced the battery(as the old one wasn't holding a proper charge) with a new one which seemed to fix the problem and also seemed to charge fine for about a week and then started having charging/shutdown issues. I'm yet to have another look at it but have been trying to find out more about the problem, if it is the charging circuit it can aparently be re-calibrated by holding the vol up, vol down and power button down similtaneously for 2 minutes. Don't know of this will help, but it is the only thing I can come up with that may explain the problem.
Had this today when my phone died and while it was charging on 2% it turned off.
I think it's just the cpu pulling power the batter simply doesn't have though I've never had it on anything about 5%.

[Q] 8.4 Battery Calibration ? Charging stops at 89%

Hello:
My Tab Pro 8.4 has picked up an issue - it stops charging at 89%. Battery monitor - the one built in, as well as GSAM Battery monitor - show the charging increasing charge in a linear fashion to some 85%, then the rate gradually decreases, till the curve flattens at 89%. The phone still claims that the battery is charging.
I just discharged the phone fully, let it recharge - same behavior.
I did root the phone 2 days before, I wonder, if that has something to do with it.
Thanks for any info, Paul.

Hello,
maybe you need to recalibrate your battery. This can be done by deleting batterystats.bin. Search google play, there are some apps, that can do it.

Thanks for the info.
In desperation, I tried few things - first a Nandroid restore to the state just after rooting - that did not help.
Next I performed a hard reset. That fixed the problem for now.
I will carefully put back in the xposed modules I used, an see/hope that the problem does not come back.
Paul.

Hi,
Did you find the actual cause of this?
I have a stock 8.4, non rooted and I find the same thing, I have attached a screen shot of the battery charge and dream. ...
Can anyone help with this please, the battery is bad enough without it topping off at 89%!!
Cheers,
Ian
Hi,
Has anyone else had this issue?
I let my tab run down to a dead battery, plugged it on over night and it is still only at 87% ...
Its driving me nuts!
I am not rooted, so don't see bow it's anything I have done, any ideas?!;
Thanks in advance

I do not have an answer, but I wanted to thank you for posting - your answer seems to indicate, that this is a issue not related to rooting.
While dealing with this, I have put back the stock rom ( but still with custom recovery on the device ) - which made charging work to 100%, then rooted again. With this config the charging worked for few days to 100%, till if failed again all of a sudden, getting stuck at 91% charge, and claiming, that the charging was ongoing for may hours.
While the charging was broken, I put on the CleanROM 1.0, and that fixed the charging problem again.
I do not see a clear pattern of this failure....
Paul.

This does not "calibrate" anything. Any app that claims to fix the battery meter by wiping this file, is making a bogus claim. All the batterystats.bin files does, is indicate how much battery various apps/processes are using since the last charge. The file gets wiped ever time you connect the charger:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/google-engineer-debunks-myth-wiping-battery-stats-does-not-improve-battery-life/
What you want, is to reset the "high" and "low" voltage flags related to Smart Battery. If there is an app that can do that, it might resolve your issue. Flashing a ROM also resets the flags (why you always need to do a battery charge/discharge cycle to get accurate readings every time you flash a ROM). So you might flash the ROM you are already on (stock?) and see if that helps.
But the issue itself is odd. If a higher voltage is achieved, I believe the "high" flag should automatically be reset. I shouldn't just "stop" at 89%.
Yes, I have (had) the same problem. I would use the tab through the day, then plug it in. In the morning, it would almost always be around 89...sometimes a bit more, others a bit less. I loaded battery doctor from the play store and set up a widget to kill all but a few specified apps (yeah, I typically try to avoid task killers, but this was driving me crazy). In my case, when I killed the apps, the battery would finish charging.
Theory (take it with a grain of salt as your mileage may vary): either the charger I am using or the tab has 'intelligence' that slows the charging down when it nears full, possibly to protect the battery. Certain apps running (sleeping?) in the background seem to keep the tab perpetually in a near-full charge state -- just enough of a drain to balance the 'slowing' charge. Every time I have killed the apps, the tab has quickly finished charging.
Again, this is just my experience. YMMV Good luck.
Try running the battery down to below 20% then recharge it. That should recalibrate the battery monitor.

I've been having issues with my 8.4 stopping charging only midway to 100%. If I unplug the cable and replug it, it continues charging.

i have had the exact same issue , mine stops charging at 54% , need to unplug replug and then it starts charging back again, also from 78% it jumped straight to 100, something is really wrong , how could samsung break something so simple and basic
I've got a very similar problem. It stops charging, usually at something like 40 or 50. If I restart it will continue charging, but not all the way, maybe up to 70 or 80. I think I tried just disconnecting the charger and reconnecting it and it didn't work but I'll try it again as that would be easier than restarting...
I sent it for service and after weeks of back and forth they gave me the old "it's rooted, so it's out of warranty".
F U Samsung. This piece of **** tablet has been messed up since day 1. First with the over sensitive screen and now this. Sony FTW.

You need to unplug the battery under the rear cover. Then plug it back in and boot up and charge it. Only way to fix. I never had issues again after doing that.

Can you please take a picture of the procedure or make a short vid please? You open in from the rear (on the fake leather) of from the front( screens bezel) ?
I have the same problem with my SM-T325 , i've tried everything on forums : reset, hard reset( vol menu button power button) nothing works !
Thanks !
Ps: I'm using genuine 2A white charger and even tried with Asus Nexus 7 charger 2A( ridiculously is that it works better than with the genuine samsung, the white one needs 5 unplug/plugs, with Asus Black charger only 3 unplug/plugs )

My battery has the same issue. I'm going to start charging my Tab Pro 8.4 with a lower amp/volt charger. I think the 5.3 volts & 2 amps puts stress on the internal charging / battery regulator circuit. The 5.3 volt makes the usb cable in the tablet reasonably hot to the touch. (a hunch)
Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 Battery Replacement Video
Update: I scraped the 5.3 volt charger for a standard 5 volt charger @ 2 amps. It won't charge while in use but it does charge to 100% from 5%, powered off overnight. I also tested a 5 volt 1 amp charger (while slower) did charge from ~50% to 100%.
I would like to see others test this theory out.
Would also like to note, I believe Samsung included a 5.3V charger instead of a standard 5V so the tablet is able to charge while in use. My guess is the circuitry was originally designed for the standard 5 volts but once they saw the tablet's charge rate while on, they decided to throw in a different charger to make up for their mistake instead of a more reliable circuit design to handle the volt boost. More then likely they did tests to see if the tablet was able to handle the new charger but did not conduct the experiment for enough time to see the degrading results (faulty battery level readout).
If they knew of the issue in production they could have fixed the issue in a batch revision or recall or they flat out ignored the results and are in denial. Shame on Samsung if this is the case. Funny how they released the "better"("revision") Tab S while refusing to fix the Tab Pro. Now it seems to be biting them in the ass.
I still want to completely test this theory out and give it more time, but so far my assumption is seemingly correct.

I had another interesting experience with this tablet.... it charged 100% without notice that the battery is full(I saw this tiny little detail -battery full icon- ensures that it is really charged) restarted it to verify something and shock !!! the value dropped to 62% and the charging sequence stopped ...and even if it shows "charging" while I'm typing these lines, it dropped to 59% ). **** !!!

Battery Issues

Okay I've had my galaxy S3 for some years now. Randomly I started to have a problem with my battery. It started dying faster and faster. After that a new problem popped up where it would only charge up to a certain point, around 35-50% and then stop. Now i did try many things and i feel like theres is nothing left to try. Im not sure if this is a software or hardware issue as i couldnt figure out the problem. I have tried changer the wall adapter, usb cable, and batteries (all official samsung ones). I even got an external battery charger and charged the batteries there and put them back in my phone. What i noticed is even a full charge on the external battery charger would show as a 35-50% same as when it charges and stops charging through usb. The magic number i noticed is 37% for all batteries, chargers, cables. Slowly this started changing and now it no longer charges properly at all. when plugged into the charger the battery drains completely to 0% on charger and if left overnight will jump to 100%. this 100% doesnt last long however and the cycle continues. Sometimes the phone will die and i plug it to charge and it will be at the 35-50% spot. The only thing i wasnt able to do was test with another s3 as everyone i know is S4 and higher. Any help would be appreciated as upgrading is not an option right now financially.

Need more information. ROM/TouchWiz version, have you tried wiping? clean install? etc.
When the problem first started i was on a custom rom but this was a while back so i dont remember the actual name of the rom. I was running that rom for months brfore the problem started so i doubt it was a rom issue. After dealing with the battery issue for a while i started to get annoyed. So i unrooted and reflashed stock firmware hoping it would help but it didnt. I ran stock for a while. After that i decided to try flashing a custom rom again to see if it would help. Currently im running TMS3KK 3.1 TW 4.4.2 and the problem is still there. I have tried factory resets, wiping everything and even battery calibration apps but nothing seems to help. My battery indicator can go from 100% to 12% just by unplugging the charger. Sometimes my phone would die and den turn back on with like 40% or so. Really can tfigure this out i feel like it might be a hardware issue. Also is *#0228# command useful?

I have the same problem. Try using rubbing alcohol and toothbrush to clean out the USB port. Also take a look at this link to remove corrosion from the port.
http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-fix-a-slow-charging-android-smartphone-enh/?ALLSTEPS
I dont think its a port issue as an external battery charger doesnt seem to fix the problem either. Problem seems to be with the phone not reading the right percentage.
I used Kies 3 to reload the firmware to KOT49H.T999VVLUFNH2. Battery is more stable now.
Yea i tried flashing back to stock as well but unfortunately didnt help me.
