[Q] LG G3 192kHz/24bit or NOT?? - T-Mobile LG G3

I just got my G3, which I've been eagerly awaiting. Main reason I bought this was my understanding it would support 192kHz/24 bit audio like the G2. However, any attempt to play anything higher than 96kHz, plays back in MONO.
I have just spent 90 minutes with T-Mo support and then LG - both were clueless. So I hoping some of you kind folks would check this out on your phone, if you can.
Hi-res files that play fine on my PC, play in Mono on the G3. The same file converted to 96kHz/24bit format play in stereo. I am using WAV annd FLAC files. Thanks to all! - FRUSTRATED NEW OWNER

Have you read this? http://people.xiph.org/~xiphmont/demo/neil-young.html ?
Apparently humans can't even hear the difference. It's more of a gimmick.
What kind of headphones are you using that you think 24/192 will benefit you?
I'm not sure why it's not working though.

Argh... Why'd you go and post that article? I just spent 15mins reading it all and it's soooooo long.... :crying:
Don't get me wrong, it's informative and predicated on evidence and I was curious, but soooooo long. And I actually read it all. Why did I do that?
Now I think I'm hearing things.... :silly:
Sorry to go OT, but the sounds told me to do it. :victory:

I really don't want to get into a discussion of the value of 24/192 - it's a feature that I paid for and frankly the thing that sold me on the LG. And I am amazed that even LG Tech Support is clueless as to whether this is supported or not... I had to educate them about sampling rates!
So, I downloaded a 3rd party player (Neutron) and another which I can't recall. They WERE able to play my hi-res files in stereo, so it appears Google Play is buggy.

So the native G3 music player is what's buggy? Not the G3 hardware itself, correct?

Yes, my 24/176k files I loaded played in stereo using two different 3rd party players; but in mono using the stock Google play app. :good:

Good point! Hopefully LG fixes the stock app.

Google Play isn't the stock music app. My G3 plays the files in stereo with a hi-def tag for anything over 96k

[Q] Music player with 5.1 ch sound?

I love the stock music player that came with my galaxy s because of it's ability to play music in 5.1 ch.
However, I have now flashed the latest MIUI to my sgs but the music player is not able to play music in 5.1 ch, so I was wondering if anyone of you guys know an app that can do this?
Thanks
5.1ch is just a sound effect. You can get it on any player app with basic tweaks to the equalizer settings.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Ah, I see. Does anyone have any tips on how to achieve this with an eq?
Sent from my Computer using My Keyboard
With 5.1ch people usually mean that instead of stereo (which is 2 channels, left + right) you have 4 additional channels (Center + Back left + Back Right + LFE or Bass (.1))
Your phone only has one speaker so I'm not sure how you want to achieve this.
The audio output is only capable of sending out stereo as well.
A source file with multi-channel audio is usually in *.vob format (DVD video format) but I know of no player that will show this on Android (except for the Archos Gen8 stock video player).
Audio only files would typically be in *.wav or *.ac3 format but same here, I know of no player that will play these multi-channel streams.
Perhaps I misunderstood your question?

The stock galaxy s music player was able to simulate 5.1 ch (when headphones were plugged in) which provided a very nice boost in sound quality. What I'm looking for is either a port of that music player to MIUI or another music player that is able to do the same thing (or some eq settings that does it would also be fine).

That option is a load of bull XD.When you listen you only have 2 speakers assuming you are using earplugs which makes 2.0 the highest you can achieve. You shouldn't bother about it... just a stupid tweak that imho makes the sound sound worse...
your comment is a load of bull.. no offence here. But the guy is asking for something dont tell him if its bad or not. He likes it other people like it some dont like it you find it bull. But he doesnt comment you on that does he?

And yes i find the sound nice to. And like other people said there are ways to get this trough EQ settings but so far i havnt got it the same as the stock player one

All I was saying that the option is stupid and it's fake it doesnt provide 5.1ch surround sound and I thought he was thinking that and I was helping his out of his dream (read his 3rd post... this is the case here..). If this is the case my comment is valuable if this isn't well.. he'll just do nothing with the information... It's a win anyway, he has nothing to lose, playing around with a EQ is way better ;/. Install voodoo sound tbh if you want a good musical experience...

The 5.1ch option was not stupid, even though it was fake. It made the sound much clearer and better on all headphones I used.
Will look into voodoo sound, thanks for the tip.
I had 5.1 available when I was using a gingerbread version I got from here. Now I can't seem to find one Pretty sure it was Calkulon or something along those lines. It was way better sound (with headphones) in my opinion, so I'm trying to find a current version that will deliver that "fake" surround

On a side note, I got Jellybean using a vid a watched from QBking77 on youtube, and he references you guys alot.
There are some bugs with Jelly Bean... For instance my mic cuts out when I hold the phone to my face and the screen goes off. Bluetooth headset... NOT A CHANCE lol. On speakerphone i can talk just fine. Headset, works great too. Sometimes I have to pull the battery because the screen dims. But for the most part, it works great.

Is there something that I can play YouTube and turn the screen off with it still play

The other day this lady at work said "I don't think you should be doing that on office time". I had YouTube on just for the music. I wasn't watching videos. She said, "But I can't even hear it" and I said "I have it low enough that only I can hear it at my desk."
Is there something that I can play YouTube and turn the screen off with it still playing?
I have no interest in using Spotify or other software. I also don't have any interest in taking up my 32GB of memory with mp3's.

What did you have to pay $2.46 for hasn't cost me anything it's free?
Also if you select music mode in settings you can save your band with.
Maybe Plex does the same thing? I have the paid version. It was 99 cents over on Amazon, but I don't use it. Initially I just wanted something to browse my PC from my phone because I had issues with ES File Explorer, but I solved them. Anyway I'm not gonna use Plex.
Why did PVStar cost $2.46? I bought the Pro version.. no advertisements and I support developers if I like something. I've bought a bunch of apps, including supporting ViperOne ROM and the guy who made the Firewater S-OFF for the M8.
Another nice feature is I think the software spoofs YouTube into thinking I am on a fullsize PC! Before videos searches on my PC and my phone would differ. Not so anymore! When I used to search at home I'd get a full concert. When I searched on my phone I'd get a list of 6 or 7 separate videos that make up the full concert. Not anymore. I can just queue up the one video.

No Equalizer (EQ) in Google Play Music App

I'm trying to wrap my head around why LG has removed the EQ functionality in the Google Play Music App. The only LG phone I've ever owned was the Nexus 5 and the built in EQ worked perfectly on that handset, yet I've heard that it's also missing on the G3. This makes absolutely no sense and, as a result, music playback sounds lifeless. I've tried several third party EQ's but there appears to be no rhyme or reason as to when they work and when they don't. And none of them effects the sound over bluetooth. Is this bothering anyone else. If so, have you found an EQ replacement that actually works?
Cm12 maxx audio eq..
I rarely use EQs. Most people just crank up the treble a ton anyways as they think it sounds good when in reality you end up with an artificial sounding turd.
Technically, the EQ was a separate package from the Google Music Play app. Yes, the Nexus 4 and 5's had them, but they do not come prepacked. Every manufacturer has their own version of it, and LG simply decided to opt out.

When/if root is available viper is the way to go. If you know what you're doing you can get some good quality sound on some good quality headphones or bt speaker system with viper.

I bought this one as well. It only worked intermittently. Worked great at first. Then after taking a break from music for a few hours I noticed that it sounded flat again. Went into the EQ and messed with the settings but nothing effected the output. Forced closed everything and started things up again but still no dice. Tried a few others as well with similar problems.

Just got Pixel XL how come it's not playing my M4a files?

I've been a long time android user but for the last 6 months went with the iPhone 7 plus just to try something different, long story short iPhone failed me so I decided to give the pixel XL a try. I love it but I acquired a lot of iTunes music over the past couple months and for some reason when I put them on the Pixel no matter what player I try it wont play them. I have tried Poweramp which was always a favorite, blackplayer, stock google player and nothing seems to work. Any ideas? I have googled the issue and it seems the Pixel can play M4a so what's going on?

Hi... Maybe a DRM issue? iTunes purchased music is protected and can only be played on a device having the same iTunes account no?
Good luck...
Ya, I thought they got rid of that years ago. I know Apple used to do that but the files work on all my other devices like computer, laptop, but I guess it's not the biggest deal. I converted them to MP3 and now they work fine.
I don't think Google Play Music (assuming that's what you're using) supports .M4a natively. You could upload them using the music manager or try a third party app. VLC tends to play just about everything.

In theory, only files downloaded from Apple Music streaming (.m4p files) should be affected by DRM protection. .m4a files should have no issue on Poweramp.
This doesn't mean Apple didn't do something to encrypt the .m4a files so they can only be played on Apple devices. It wouldn't surprise me. This is a big reason why I don't really like Apple products. Apple pretty much tells you how to use the device and almost force you to use it that way just to try to lock you in their ecosystem.

That's right boy am I getting sick of there crap! Honestly I am HUGE into music and consider myself an audiophile and get a lot of my music in either FLAC or WAV directly from CD and the iPhone was always very picky about what WAV files it would support and it doesn't support flac at all, wont even let you transfer it to the device. I've had instances where I would go to my music library and ALL the music that I hadn't bought from iTunes would just be GONE out of the blue. I googled it, and it turns out it's a very common issue and even the guys on macrumors suspect's it's a tactic by apple to get you to only use iTunes purchased music on their devices.

I'm not surprised at all. Since Poweramp is supposed to support m4a, it's definitely an issue with Apple. I remember 10 years ago when my wife had the first or second iPhone and i had to convert songs in mp3 or flac to aac or whatever format to play them. Now she uses my ex N6P

And with the development of USB-C and the state of modern hardware, lossless file formats will actually be lossless on phones instead of just a waste of space. Most apps converted lossless files to lower bitrates while playing and if the app didn't, the DAC did.
It's ridiculous. In my eyes, Apple looks like they are making desperate attempts to hold onto as many customers as possible by making it as inconvenient as possible to switch to a different platform. iOS is lagging behind Android now in settings menu organization and overall functionality, and I think they know it. I'd use to have to root a phone just to do some of the things an iPhone could do until the OG Moto X, which was the last phone I rooted and that was only for hotspot access when I had my original unlimited Verizon plan. I have lost interest in root access on my daily driver now that Android does everything I need plus more. I thought I'd root my 6P once I experienced a limitation but there wasn't ever a time with the 6P that Android let me down (besides a software-based noise canceling mic issue but Google replaced the phone for free because of it). I didn't even root the only Nexus phone I ever owned and still haven't seen the need to root the Pixel.
I was using my friend's old iPhone while I was waiting for my replacement 6P to arrive and ran into so many inconveniences that I kept asking my friend if I could jailbreak it. He didn't want me to so let's just say it was a horrible experience. You can't even put the cursor in the middle of a word to correct a typing mistake unless you use the magnifying glass long-click thing or the spacebar slide feature on the keyboard. On paper, the functionality of iOS and Android is "closer than ever" but the little things make a huge difference.
P.S. iTunes is absolute garbage. It's the modern day Windows Media Player. I feel bad that iPhone users are basically forced to use it to transfer music from a computer to the phone.

General Issues with USB Dongles and external USB DACs

There is another problem with the Pixel 6 (6 and 6 pro) devices. External USB DACs and dongles do not work properly. USB Host API or the DAC offloading and hand-over are bugged. Apps like Tidal, Neutron, USB audio Player Pro crash or can't play music in high res. The problem has already been reported by some users. There has been no statement from Google yet.
A work around for me to get music playing and stop apps freezing was switching off the toggle for "allow all apps use mic" in system/privacy settings.
But this does not solve the issue, as the apps still can not access the USB Dongles or external DACs directly and by pass android system limitations and software processing.
Google skips the 3.5 port and users are forced to use dongles, etc., which do not even work properly.
Google is going the Apple way by certifying hardware that is compatible with the P6P and P6. Their response will be to buy a certified DAC or wait for a software patch

They are all aware. I've talked to Davy (USB audio Player Pro). They removed the app for pixel 6 and pixel 6 pro from playstore because of the mentioned issues. The problems have nothing to do with their app. E.g. neutron and tidal are also not working properly or freezing. Google needs to fix their USB DAC hand over.

The problems have nothing to do with their app. E.g. neutron and tidal are also not working properly or freezing. Google needs to fix their USB DAC hand over.

Wow, that sucks. I hope they fix that pronto! Otherwise, I smell a class-action lawsuit (not from me).
Is it app specific and/or USB DAC specific? Because my FiiO BTR3K works fine.
Which app are you using?
Some apps can play music, but most can not bypass Android Software processing.
If you e.g. use tidal in MQA the app connects directly to the DAC and plays in high res.
Same does USB audio Player Pro. Then you see at the bottom "DAC" + bit...
Actually if I get it to play music at all, it's just direct mode, which means nothing.
Some dongles and DACs seem to be working, but just in low/software-processed quality.
So the problem is playing REAL high res, instead of android software compressed/processed audio.
Therefore the USB API seems to be broken. So as soon as the app tries to get direct access to the DAC it freezes or crashes.

Ah gotcha. I don't have anything playing actual high res audio files.

Yeah, maybe you can play some processed, low quality music through your high res DAC. So the DAC is pretty useless, you could use a standard dongle with bull**** chip, as it doesn't matter.
I know a little bit what I'm talking about.
I did some audio ports and worked with UltraM8 and the other dudes on the Ainur Audio mods.

Yeah I don't even use it wired anyway. I just wanted a very good Bluetooth DAC. For me it's the best of both, using my wired headphones yet not tethered to the device it's connected to.
No issues playing the Hi-Res/Ultra HD music files on Amazon Music through the official Google dongle. Sounds pretty good, can't really tell the difference between it and the V60 that I've had prior.

As far as I know, Amazon app is still limited to phones native sampling rate and does not bypass Android limitations (android mixer). So it does not make use of the external DAC directly. Different story again. But please correct me, if I'm wrong.
But at least it's one DAC that plays some music.

I had a OnePlus 6 with Jack 3.5 and I bought a DAC for the Pixel 6 and I find this problem, I hope they will solve it soon. I can play music but with worse quality

I just read through the conversation and it just baffles me. So the "official" Pixel support forum is run by volunteers who basically tell you "if you have a problem, don't bother us, we just give you pre-prepared text-blocks - if they can't help you, we're out" - if you want "real" support, go and use "feedback form" - meaning you write a wall of text to an known person, won't get any sort of answer or input and have to pray that Google will care?
Uff.
I mean, as a Pixel user you can always try the
-> Settings
-> Tips & Support
-> Contact us
form, that way you can at least write to a person/talk to a human, even though they will most likely also just form a "feedback form" after your conversation, since they are powerless Tier I tech people.
I hope that Google can fix those problems here, so you guys can have fun with your device. Google certainly doesn't deserve the "our phone just works" - status, if they forget to add basic compatibility to common third party hardware.
