If you're ON ANDROID KITKAT 4.4.2, download towelroot apk from https://towelroot.com
Install the apk(No virus or anything unsafe here), open towelroot and should take less than 30 seconds to root, then download a superuser apk from play store like from Chainfire, update binaries and reboot and you should be rooted! Hit thanks if you feel you got help! Same instructions put in this video http://youtu.be/AZgEVM2hSnI download links covered! Just watch and install! Happy rooting

[Q] Tried rooting using Towelroot and chainfire but no joy

Hi Guys,
I am having some issues trying to root my Samsung Galaxy S3. I am currently running the stock Kitkat version of AT&T on my S3(SGH-I747) and trying to root it to be able to install CWM and a custom rom.
I have tried chainfire and towelroot methods.
I used the following tutorial of using ODIN and chainfire image for samsung SGH-I747:youtube.com/watch?v=LwsvPO8jVGE
I was able to get all steps to work and get everything same as the video above except when I install "Root Checker" from android play store it gave me message that "Root method is not properly configured" even after odin showed "Success" after rebooting and applying the patch
I then used the towelroot method by going to the towelroot.eu website on my phone and installing the apk. the towelroot app gave me the message that "I have root and do not need to reboot my device" but Root checker still says that my root is not configured.
I then reset my phone by pressing volume up+power and home button and clearing "Cache" and wiping data" and trying the above methods again but still unable to get the phone to root.
I am completely stumped as to what I am doing wrong. And would really appreciate some help from the pros.I have attached a snapshot of my device info and thanks for the great work and guidance.
Matt
PS. I already made sure that my phone is in the "Developer Mode" and "USB debugging" is enabled
tried another method
Also tried using the casual method but that also failed with the error "Unsupported device" here is the url for the log file:http://pastebin.com/vZRvYH3g
I followed the follwowing thread:

After rooting with Towelroot you have to install SuperSU from the store. Then open and let it update its binary.
You dont need root to get cwm.

Hi Doc, I was able to follow one of your other treads at "http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3-att/help/att-bricked-s3-help-please-t2817566/page2" and install TWRP. I think my issue was that the firmware had got upgraded to the NE4 and I was not flashing the correct bootloaders.
I do have one more question and I am not sure if it is a ROM related issue or a phone setting. I will understand if you think I should ask in the ROM thread. I flashed CM11 on the phone after installing TWRP and rooting with superSu. I noticed that the led buttons on the bottom of the phone are disabled(the back and the setting buttons) do you know if this is a changeable setting(pic attached)? I would hate to loose the screen-space at the bottom to the buttons and even though that's standard Kitkat layout I wont mind being able to use the phone led buttons to go back and change settings.
I installled the follwoing version of cm11: cm-11-20140805-SNAPSHOT-M9-d2lte.zip from (http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=d2lte)
Thanks for your help and guidance.
Matt
Im not sure about that one. I don't use CM so im not very familiar with all of its different settings. Someone else may have the answer for you though. If not, then ask in the rom thread like you mentioned.

Found a working root for 4.6.1

Greetings!
I was successfully able to root my US unlocked Fire Phone (on 4.6.1) by installing and running KingRoot 4.0!
KingRoot appears to work on other 4th gen Amazon devices as well!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/kindle-fire-hdx/general/to-root-4th-gen-amazon-device-t3104853
One caveat:
KingRoot installs KingUser as its superuser app, and KingUser appears to prevent the su binary from being overwritten.
Because of this, I have not yet been able to replace KingUser with SuperSU or similar.
Hopefully someone more knowledgeable can resolve this, but until then
I've opted to install the Xposed Framework and LightningWall module in order to block KingUser's network activity.
najoor has found a way to replace KingUser via adb:

Also, hydromän pointed out that HDXPosed is working to enable widgets and block potential updates. Awesome!

Maybe someone more experienced than myself could take a look at it.
Other than that, seems great.

Thanks z64 for the information about a working root for 4.6.1 (US Unlocked GSM) Fire Phone.
I would like to know if KingRoot 4.0 is really safe to use, and if will make a FULL or a PARTIAL root to the Amazon Fire Phone?
I also would like to know if after rooting, you will be able to go backward and UnRoot later the Fire Phone, to the default and normal original state?

Is KingRoot a PC based program or a APK file? I'm Google searching now, just wondering which you used.
http://androidxda.com/download-kingroot-application
Choose 4.0
does this survive a reboot? that would be great news =)
After rebooting root checker report" ROOT" but you are right superSU is not working actualy it got installed but the SU binary upgrade failed
Can I go backward and UnRoot later the FirePhone to Default/Normal Original State??
Please, can someone that has already Rooted their Fire-Phone, if after rooting would be able to go backward and UnRoot later the Fire Phone, to the default and normal original state?

I'm not sure what qualifies as a full or partial root; the bootloader is still locked, so no custom recovery or custom roms.
It is possible to unroot using the included KingUser app.
You have to uncheck "Backup Root permission" first to completely unroot it.
(Still haven't figured out how to replace KingUser with SuperSU while it's rooted.)

I used the latest KingRoot 4 apk from kingroot.net/down
"KingRoot-4.0.0.233-release-201505071219_105001.apk"

Xposed framework is the first thing I did
Hi, i have the xposed framwork installed but not sure what to do with it lol

Not sure why - but after following instruction (after rooting etc) tried to follow the guide for making phone look like normal android and thats when all hell broke loose on my phone. Unresponsive bottom button, wiget's not loading, super su showing nothing then refreshing a while later showing apps in there etc.
Kinda killed my phone so going to factory reset and start again.
This is great! I got the now launcher to work, although I'm not exactly sure how. I tried the supersu replacement and only made it to steps 6 and 7 mostly because I couldn't understand what exactly I was supposed to do, so step 8 didn't work and I'm still using the kingsu. I then d/l the now launcher and the google (search) apps, tried to run it a couple of times with no luck. Then force stopped the home app, restarted, and I was given the choice to use the now launcher.
Its easy. If u have root, convert Google Now Launcher and Google Search with Titanium Backup to a System App... And you can Choose Google Now Launcher.
This is great. I was able to fix my play store/services issues by changing my build.prop to nexus 5 after rooting. Awesome!

no says root failed no strategy now. so not sure what's going on. i have no root can't install safestrap
Was your WiFi enabled when you launched Kingroot 4.1.x ? It usually matches the scheme for the root method and then proceeds until it reaches 100%.
You can even root with KingUser 4.0.5., no need for the Kingroot APK, just leave WiFi running.
VirusTotal rating for KingUser: 13 / 54 which is not new, since KingUser is very aggresive when getting things done.
Don't worry, when you safestrap CM11 it will erase all traces of Kingroot / KingUser.
edit: wjamie30 was successful.

Problem with Freegee

Hi guys, Im using an f180l optimus g (converted to e975 4.4.2). Im trying to unlock the bootloader using freegee but when i open it it goes into a black screen and makes my phone to lag until i close it. I have installed busybox and im rooted. Please help me with this problem or suggest me another way to unlock bootloader for cyanogenmod.
Thanks in advance.
Same Problem here on my LGOG E975.
Tried different versions und even factory reset my phone. Nothing worked.
After installing old APK and then the version from the store it started but couldn't copy the utilities twice. (Something like that.)

So I found the problem. Though every Rootchecker and SuperSU showed me that I have rooted my phone, it wasn't rooted.
With IOROOT I was able to really get root-rights on my phone und Freegee was no longer a problem. :victory:

Hope this helps when someone stumbles over this thread.
E975:
Flash Euro 10H -> Update to Euro 20A, use towelroot to root, instal supersu from GP and busybox installer, open supersu, update binary as normall, next go to settings, uncheck Mount Namespace Separation, reboot, open busybox and install, reboot, install freegee from GP and make backup efs, copy efs backup to computer, next choose twrp Option, mako and thats all, it working for me :good:

LG Optimus G Pro E980 "Unfortunately settings has stopped

This is an LG E980 Rooted with SuperUser installed. I have Freegee which says my LG 98020i version is not supported, so I don't know how to proceed with that. I also have Flashfire and Flashify. Not quite sure about these either.
I watched all the YouTube videos, No Help, I reset to factory settings twice, No Help. As soon as I reboot from reset "unfortunately settings has stopped" I can download various apps that can change various settings for me, (Thank God Google has a back door to get into my home wifi or I would be really up a river) but i cant set anything in the settings menu manually. So I got an app to enable ADB and intalled LG Mobile USB driver on my windows box, along with LG Flashtool, LG Mobile Support tool, and LGUP and my phone Still won't connect except to charge. I went into reboot into ADB, when I connect the USB and launch LGUP it says "no device detected" and "install LG usb drivers" for my device (which I already did). I'm running KK 4.4.2 and at this point I just want to reflash my current ROM and hopefully regain access to my device, although installing a new lollipop or marshmallow version without all the useless AT&T crap is appealing. I'm really frustrated with this whole process. Every time I turn around it's something else that won't work. I REALLY don't want to F this up but I think I'm a little over my head. Can someone give me an Idea of how to make this work? I can't even get an APK that isn't from the play store. What a Freakin" Pain. The more I read, the more confusing it gets, with all the .tots or .kdzs, MMs and EFSs, TWRPs, CWMs, and AOSPs, I don't know WTF to do. Can anyone PLEASE point me in the right direction?? Much love and appreciation....
