Setting to enable wireless charging? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Is there a setting I need to check to enable wireless charging on my Nexus 7 (2013)? I have 2 in my house and neither with charge with the Anker charger I bought. Whether in the case or out of it, it's not connecting. Not sure if I got a defective unit or if there is something I need to turn on on the device for it to work. Thanks!

Nope there shouldn't be a setting you need to enable to get wireless charging. It should just work right out of the box. Try moving it around on the pad and see if you can get a charge. Might be a defective unit.

No there isn't a setting, just place your N7 on the charger and your good to go. I use wireless charging on my N5 and N7 all the time.
EDIT: Make sure you put the wireless charger in the middle of the device for it to work.

Mine is a bit fussy about positioning on a Lugulake Qi charger. "x" marks the spot (the "x' in "Nexus" is where the receiver coil is located) and I have to slide it around a bit to get it properly centered. I don't use a case, but I suspect it charges more slowly with a case than without (greater separation).
Aside from those quibbles, wireless charging works just fine.

there is a fastboot command for auto power on:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2496079
don't know for the reset.
i also have my nexus mounted in my car, and the fastboot trick works for me.
what I'm wondering now is if it works but when using a Qi charger.

thats a very good question. i have a qi charger here. i will try it out. after i do this patch.
cool let us know. i already put an order for it earlier today, so i'll cancel it if its not any better than my otg+charge cable.
also do you have any temperature issues with the qi charger? just saw some posts on that on the forums

just tested the patch, works great in the car. the qi charger does indeed turn the tablet on as well and no heat issues for me. i do have my tab underclocked to 1ghz and undervolted. not sure if that makes a difference in bat temp though

when it auto powers on with the qi and otg cable plugged in, does the tablet also show the "charging" symbol?

yes. says its charging just like normal.
i wanted to go ahead and throw this out there but it seems that when charging with wireless charger and it hits the full marker and the tablet stops accepting a charge, the wireless charger will not start charging again unless its unplugged and plugged back in. idk whats up with that. im assuming the tablet just rejects a charge after reaching full and it cant tell the wireless charger to start again? or maybe the charger never actually quits but the tablet doesnt know the wireless charger is still there to continue taking a charge? not sure but either way its pretty annoying seeing as how i have it glued to the back on the tablet and the power is in behind my dash so i cant just unplug it very easy.
for me it seems really tricky to find the sweet spot where it starts charging.
also, i couldn't get it to charge with any charger/adapter without the official wall plug
is yours working with a car charger?

yea. using a dual usb car charger, with 1 output being 1A output and the other being 2.1A. i have the wireless charger connected to the 2.1 and a bluetooth hands free connected to the other. charger works fine until its done charging. i have mine directly in the middle of the tablet. idk if it really differs charger to charger but i use http://www.amazon.com/UPGRADED-Wireless-Charger-Charging-Qi-Enabled/dp/B00C40OG22 maybe the charger your using in the car doesnt have enough juice? try maybe a 1A or higher charger.

Wireless charging

Anyone using wireless charging on the MI3? It's only possible with a receiver, btw, it's not built in.

I am curious has anyone tried using a wireless charging add on and know if it works properly?
I'm a writer for Qiwireless.com and I use my Mi3 with a universal wireless charging receiver to charge it.
I saw something here: facebook.com/MiuiCzechSlovakXiaomi/posts/10152284167068959
Manufacturer named Lencow doing this type of chargers for MI's. You can find the net for the price.
is it for real that mi3 supports wireless charging??

Note, WITH a receiver. A receiver is a piece of hardware which sits under the base of the phone, and is connected to the charging circuit. Just google the term.
You'd have to be really motivated to take your phone apart, just to attach that. Without considering the space that module would need vs the available space inside the phone, which is pretty slim to start with. Actually with a metal phone back, I believe the module would have to sit outside of the phone, between the plastic cover and the back - so the phone back would not be flat.
I have had a Nexus 4 with wireless charging for the last 2 years, and I rarely use the wireless charger I bought:
- charges slower than a wall charger
- if you pick the phone up - as we all do - you stop charging and additionally multiply the number of charging cycles.
Cables are not as cool as a Qi pad, but a Qi pad also needs its cable...
Anyway, out of the box, the mi3 doesn't do wireless charging - just confirmed that with my wireless charger
stupid!!! pls improve yourself bout the 'Electronic Science and Technology' knowledge~ don't ask such an idiot question!!!

Wireless charging

Hey guys,
Since the OPO has NFC I'm assuming wireless charging will work... What are some good and cheap wireless charging options?
Thanks!
NFC and wireless charging are two completely different things. You could add wireless charging via a universal QI receiver but that's it

Ohh didnt realize that! So would I just need a QI receiver and I can put my phone on it? Or do I need a special case for my phone?
You need a wireless charger receiver, you will lose the USB port, when you want to use USB you will have to take the case off and take the charger plug out.
Since it's pretty thin you can use any case, or none (Maybe not metal cases).
You also need a wireless sender, this is the pad that the phone sits on.
Notes: Since these are only 500ma (have not found a pad > 500) and with less efficiency (so its actually less than 500ma), it will take a very long time to charge the phone. I dont even know if its able to keep up with the power requirements of the phone if it's in use.
Powerbot chargers are supposed to put out 1000mah. I think its partially dependent on the actual charging cord plugged into the qi charger though

that is true. all parts need to be compatible to get a decent charge rate. i had a charger that put out 2amps and a cord that supported it too but most receivers put out 500-750mah which results in a slow charge. and i havent found a decent receiver yet either. Most of them are really finicky and need to have the phone placed just right on the receiver for it to charge.

Q I charging problem

I picked up an lg QI dock and tryed to let the g3 charge off it. Would not work. So found out that the us versions of the g3 do not have the correct back to work on qi dock charging. bought a replacement cover and then tryed to use dock.
the phone would go into charge mode for a few seconds and then stop charging. tryed moving the phone in differant positions and still no charge. then one night the phone charged, but it is intermitant. Is there something Im doing wrong?
thanks
The original back cover should of worked right out the box, I think the wireless charger is defective you have, try another one.

Qi chargers vary in signal strength and have an effective "transmission range" that is dependent on how thick the case of the transmitter is and how thick your phone's case is, if you have one on it. If you have a case on the phone try taking it out before you charge to see if that helps. Otherwise you may need to look for a "stronger" charger (they should have "transmission distance" or "charging distance" listed and anything 5mm or less is useless in my experience).

The US versions do not support wireless charging out of the box, as the OP said. I am waiting on a replacement antenna to handle both NFC and Qi, myself. I really got spoiled to the wireless charging with my Nexii 4 and 7...

Uh oh - wireless charge working on razer 2?

Anyone have a razer 2 can confirm their wireless charge is "on deck"?? Mine is NOT working with my generic "fast charge" wireless Qi charger from amazon. The charge DOES work with my note 9. I've tried placing the razer on the stand up, down, and all around---nothing. Hoping this is just a (somehow) incompatible wireless charge.
Make sure your positioning it correctly. I've found it works with both of my samsung fast charge wireless chargers but I have to position it fairly far back and it only works while laying flat. Seems the charging coil in the phone is in the lower half.

Ah...didn't think about moving it on another axis Levitation is required---has to sit about 1-2 inches from the bottom before the coils start getting some. A tube of chapstick works. Not ideal at all but works. Definitely something for me to consider while my return window is valid.
PS: Mine is a upright stand (does not lie flat)
How did you get the chroma app to work with non razer wireless charger?
