[Q] TWRP doesn't replace CWM - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm having some trouble with installing a new recovery. I want to have TWRP because I want to install a ROM that requires it. At the moment I have some old CWM but when I flash TWRP and reboot into recovery I still get into CWM.
So how do I replace CWM or at least boot into TWRP?

Try 4ext recovery, in my opinion i think its better. Also u cant flash recovery "flash zip from sdcard" u have to either use fastboot command
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Or via PB99IMG method or using the 4ext app but u can only use the app once ur phone is booted.

Enough said. You need stock recovery to do OTA.
Try to locate OTA file and flash it manually

You won't lose root if you have stock recovery.
Do you even have a stock recovery? If so, just place it inside the adb folder, open the command prompt change directory to adb folder, boot into bootloader mode and type fastboot flash recovery name_of_recovery.img The same way you probably got custom recovery onto the device.
Won't lose root because of stock recovery. You'll lose root because of the OTA though, but even then it's easy enough to regain root. You can then either flash back the custom recovery OR boot the custom recovery. I'd suggesting booting the custom recovery that way you can make a nandroid backup of the updated system before you flash anything again.
fastboot boot custom_recovery_name.img If you're using TWRP then it probably won't make a backup of the stock recovery, CWM/Philz will work better for the nandroid. After you made a backup(If you choose to make a backup, again strongly suggested) then you can flash a custom recovery again.
Was it really necessary to post in a massive font?

4ext Recovery, TWRP or CWM?

same problem
Which ROM and which cellphone are you using? You could try re-checking the MD5 and/or fastboot flash boot boot.img again in order to rectify the corrupt booting files if any.

[Q] Recovery not working.

Redmi 1s.. v45 rooted.
I have TWRP 2.8.0 recovery. I can enter in the recovery. But...
1) can't install any zip(tried to install zip of stock recovery and cwm. It shows successful but again boots in twrp recovery)
2) can't backup(it shows backup is successful but no folder or file is created as a backup)
3)tried fixing root permission... But it takes forever to complete the process)
If this can be fixed plz help...... Other thing i did is...
I tried to flash rom in fastboot...
Using Miflash.... An error is displayed.... Can't flash the rom too.
Thanks
There's some problem with the recovery i guess. Try using fastboot recovery to flash the latest version and an rom

I installed CWM recovery via fastboot. Now everything is fine.
But in TWRP I used to see "simulating actions" while performing backup or installing zips.
Didn't get that.
Cwm touch recovery
Everytime im tryig to backup rom , via cwm , it says cant mount backup path.. I installed stock recovery updating via updater then formatted my internal sd , flashed cwm again,, tried back up again didnt work.. Any help?
I had problems with Custom Roms in CWM but for me TWRP worked well. But you can try Philz recovery.

Hope this will solve your problem.

I had exactly the same problem.
It turned out that the problem is in the TWRP settings. Uncheck the Simulate bla...bla...bla...

I can't used fastboot because my device refuses to boot into anything other than recovery, even when I press "boot into bootloader", so HBOOT is out of the question.
Some ADB commands simply don't seem to work in this recovery. I can however use the adb shell to push files into the phone. Just nothing beyond that.
I've tried this to no success, primarily because I can't get into HBOOT.
There is one thing I have yet to try, and that's installing via zip. Would it be possible to install a recovery image via zip file? If so, how? The recovery images I have are all in .img format.
yes, you can

Yes, you can. You can download flashable zip for CWM and flash TWRP or another CWM.

Issue when flashing TWRP

Hi guys
I am trying to install the latest TWRP, but every time that I try to boot into recovery through "adb reboot recovery" the phone restarts and I see the android maintenance logo.
What I did up to now:
1) I unlocked the bootloader following LG site instructions successfully. I have the bootloader unlocked message.
2) Downloaded TWRP to my windows PC for H815. After doing "fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.0.2-0-h815.img", the result seems to be successful as I get the expected OK message.
3) I try to reboot to TWRP through "adb reboot recovery" but every time goes to the maintainance logo. I tried also the button combination but I cannot see the Factory Reset menu or the TWRP menu.
Just to mention that I was completely stock V20d without root at the beginning and that the phone boots fine for the moment.
Please help.
No one had my issue? I am still trying to install TWRP and I only manage to boot it temporarily from the PC..

twrp needs to be flashed from within twrp. First boot twrp:
> fastboot boot twrp.img
Now you install the image as recovery.

I think this was the first issue, but after I should also remove the "read only" from TWRP in order to keep it in the recovery.
