Aluminum Bumper Alternative - ONE Accessories

Are there any alternatives to the standard aluminum bumper case that is just a bumper, not a back cover? Nothing feels better than aluminum for a bumper, but there are a few signal issues. I like the look and feel of the screw closed aluminum bumper, but all the other alternatives listed here are full back cover protection, which I don't need.

You mean something like this?
ebay.com/itm/301246319556

That's the one I have already. It's what I was looking for, but have seem some decrease in reception.

I don't think there is any other aluminum bumper available.
I just ordered this bumper, about the signal decrease, Is it so serious ? It is not usable at with the bumper on?
What do you say about the feel of the phone with the bumper on?

Video Review: Tridea Bumper Case!

Hey guys,
Got my hands on the Tridea Tedoori Bumper case, this is a TPU bumper that wraps around the sides and corners of your Galaxy S III to provide a tight fitting but slim case alternative. As a bumper, it leaves the front and back exposed, however you can pair this case up with a set of skins and have maximum scratch protection.
Check out the full review below for more info:
good video mate, check out the bumper beetle too...
Thanks a funky idea... i dont know that to think. It covers what is important to cover, and would make me feel better putting it on table.... but still the back not being fully protected bothers me for some reason..... Thanks for the review!!!! Much appreciated.

TPU w/ Aluminum Bumper? What?

Has anyone purchased a case like this? I am assuming that it is a TPU case with an aluminum bezel thingy around the outside. I would like to see it on a phone to see how much thicker it makes the phone (it looks to be a very thin alternative to a full aluminum bezel). I also am curious as to if it is actually TPU or another material. Thoughts?

P.S. It is also fairly cheap.
It doesnt mention that its TPU.
To me, it looks like a plastic back. I think that if it fell, the clips would break that hold the back to the aluminum.

looks like aluminum and polycarbonate to me, I doubt it's TPU. TPU isn't brittle enough to clip like that, which is why you don't see many TPU cases for slider phones.
That would be sweet though if it were made with TPU along the back with that bezel. Looks nice.

That was my first thought as well!

*****Best Bumper*****

Hey Guys, just a quick question.
You know how their those aluminium bumper and then there's this sgp ones. Well I was just wondering if someone can answer these questions for me.
1. Say for instance i dropped my s3 and it happened to land on its screen would the bumper ( sgp and Metal) prevent the phone from cracking, better than the standard jelly case on ebay?
2. Which bumper would prevent the crack more. the metal or the sqp?
3. is it worth getting a metal bumper or a sqp one?
4. What is the deference between a jelly case, metal bumper and sqp bumper.

not sure about the other 2, but the metal bumper won't help much. it doesn't even lift the camera lens off the surface.
it also has little to no padding, if you can call a few strips of tape around the inside as paddings...

A lot of people cite no padding as the reason to not have metal bumpers. But, these bumpers do, in fact, protect your phone. The real value in having a solid metal bumper is to distribute the force of impact over a wider surface area, therefore lessening the likelihood of damage.
So yes, metal bumpers do protect.
Are You Sure
yeah so the metal bumper would be more ideal? Just thinking if its metal wouldn't create more of a shock than the sqp cause it is metal?
It's hard to say what bumper can absorb greater impact without a controlled lab test.
Keep in mind our phones do not have any moving parts, so the only real impact you have to worry about is the point at which the material breaks or the joined parts separate.
Personally, I think the difference in protection is negligible, and would worry more about the reception problems associated with metal bumpers.
I guess you would wrap a Ferrari with a case too
i'll only buy a metal case ONLY IF the inside is rubberized to absorb the shock when it falls.

1. If you drop it on the screen and there is something there, there isn't anything that will prevent it from cracking better than anything.
2. None.
3. SGP does not effect reception. Aluminum bumpers do.
4. /thread.

I'm not sure there's a whole lot of impact dissipation when it comes to a solid material, though. Pretty sure that's the main reason why cases like the Otterbox and such still use a soft silicon layer, aside from in-hand comfort. ESPECIALLY when just about every metal bumper i've seen has almost nothing separating the phone itself from the metal bumper aside from what looks like slightly thicker than average tape.
I have that exact same bumper as linked in the OP from ebay and I can tell you straight up that it has a few bits of tape and the back part of the bumper doesn't even lift the camera lens off the surface. The power and volume buttons are stupidly hard to press (you can only press them from the back) and the headphone port is narrow enough to the point that you would need a real skinny aux cable.
I don't think it even comes close to protecting anything. it looks kinda unique but that's about as far as it goes.
those little tapes are there so that the metal doesn't scratch the phone's edges, that's it.
I've dropped my phone several times with my metal bumper from 2 foot up to about 4 foot and it's survived every time. I did take my bumper off for a while and accidentally dropped it from about 2 foot and the screen broke lol.
The only issue with the metal bumper is the loss of reception. I get about 10% less reception than when I have no bumper on. I do get GPS perfectly fine, same with wifi and NFC(obviously as the case only covers the sides not the back).

why is this thread named "*****Best Bumper*****" and then for metal bumper, a lesser version is listed? if you want the best, you gotta raise that price, and go DRACO. (unless you want to name this *****SOME Bumpers For people that don't want to spend much*****)

Phone cases - Rubber vs Plastic

I'm curious as to current thoughts on the whole rubber v plastic cases debate. I'd like to go with a rubber case personally as I like the feel and generally think they are less intrusive, but at the end of the day, I'm buying a case for protection over anything else.
What is the current thoughts in 2013 about case types, and who is the leading brand? Is otter boxes still way ahead of most of the competition?
i used otterbox defender for 10 months and switched over to an aluminum bumper on my note 2, which is slightly better because of the bulk

rubber. always rubber.
Actually, a hybrid with fused rubber/plastic is a much better alternative; like UAG cases.
one rubber case saved my phone more times, for 1$ una tantum
very good!
:good:
I usually get cases made of flexible plastic, but hard plastic mixed with rubber is pretty awesome too, like an otterbox
I would go with rubber. Seems to offer better shock protection
Rubber for me too.
I prefer to feel the original cover of the phone. However, as it may fall anyhow i've just ordered a plastic crystal cover to protect it without losing the view of the beautiful back of my white Nexus 5.
rubber ftw
more elastic i think
rubber and plastic
Rubber for me too.
Rubber for me too.
Some rubber cases are pretty much dust magnets so beware of those. Other than that, I'd generally still stick with rubber over plastic mainly because I feel that it absorbs shock/ fall damage a lot better than plastic. With plastic, feels more like crack on impulse. I have an Otterbox Defender and I dropped my phone while holding the door for someone and well, phone was still functioning so glad Otterbox worked. However, i haven't tried any other brands.
I did read about other phone case makers using fancy names like silicone, TPU, and what not. No clue what they are, but would be interesting to see an actual in-depth review of that.

Thin and Grippy Case

I'm thinking about ordering a OnePlus One today and need advice on a case. I rarely buy cases for protection but more so for grip, but the added protection would be a welcome advantage. I've read so many reviews and forums here that my mind is mush. I want a case that offers a tacky or grippy feel on both the back and the sides. So far I've yet to find that perfect combo and think I may have to settle for the Diztronic Ultra TPU Case. Can anybody elaborate on it's grip or another case that might be better? I have small hands and the OPO is going to be a stretch no matter what.
Try to see the orzly bumper fusion cover
It may not offer enough protection for you, but check out the pelosi case. Has a similar sandstone grip as the back of the phone.
