The G3 is a great phone, but for the logical and rational people out there who value more than specs on paper, or aren't sold on the stupid-high resolution and its pitfalls, what would you like to see in a G3 Mini? I think this is a grand opportunity for LG to make the first "mini" phone that doesn't need to suffer from sub-par specs.
If anyone from LG is reading this, your high-resolution display is actually the main reason I will NOT be buying the G3, next to being slightly too large. I own a G2 which I find is already pushing it.
The high-resolution display is just not worth these pitfalls:
BATTERY: Life is good, but could have been even better with a 1080p display; or could use a smaller battery resulting in lower cost for the device
HEAT: Device runs hotter because of the power draw on the display. When phones get hot, the processor underclocks itself. This is why phones often get laggy when they get hot; 1080p would be at MUCH lower risk, if at all
COST: No doubt that the R&D (optimizations) to pull off this high resolution will make the device more expensive; 1440p display materials also certainly drive the cost up over 1080p
I respect LG for this technological feat, but it really only appeals to the nutty enthusiasts who get off just knowing they are running high specs, or the uninformed masses who are just too dumb to know. I know there is not much else to compete on in the smartphone space, so please bring a Mini that doesn't suck.
Here is my wishlist for a potentially perfect phone (LG G3 Mini), and it's quite simple.
1080p
5", but keeping the same sexy dimensions, materials, and design
Smaller battery is understandable since there will be less power draw
Keep the other key specs the same! (camera, Snapdragon, RAM)

I think he hits it right on too for the most part. Might battery life be almost TOO good with a 1080p display? Thing would run for days and days. On a smaller device there might not be as much space for it.
5' 1080 screen, everything else the same (okay to nudge the battery down slightly if necessary, due to the smaller package).
I don't want mini performance, simply a smaller screen/package. I really don't want 5.5 screen, I have a 7" tablet with BT kbd/mouse for things that take more real estate.
I want compact, not mini. Mostly because mine is a excuse for selling low performance for premium dollar..

It does, but because it's not removable.
The Korean G2, which has a removable battery, is only 2600mAH instead of the 3000 of the international version.And surprisingly enough, it makes a big difference in battery time (or maybe it's because the firmware is different?)
I love the G3 (I mean I'm ready to love it, as I don't have it yet), but I think it's slightly too big for me. A G3 compact with the same size as the G2, only a bit thinner would be ideal (G2 is the perfect size for me). While retaining the removable battery and SD slot of course...

I'm also looking forward to that. My next phone is either going to be the G3 or the Moto X+1, but that really depends on the X+1. Can't wait to get some real news on it. Hopefully it has a battery to die for.

I'm starting to wonder if the X+1 will have native Android L which should automatically give it 20-40% battery life improvement. Looks like August is a solid date. I hope they can deliver where the G3 failed.

Coming from the Note 2, I'm impressed with the screen size to phone size ratio. One thing that has bothered me, is how small the LED notification indicator light is. Can barely tell if it's blinking or not. Might just be me, but I loved how easy it was to see the LED notification on the Note 2.

I thought after the Moto X, everyone would jump on the ActiveDisplay. Motorola must have a patent on it or other manufacturers are still blind to the great value it adds. LED notifications feel archaic after using a Moto X.

Good point. Haven't really explored Moto phones too much, but that's some very useful/practical tech.
I'm surprised almost half the voters believe that 5.5" is more practical than 5" for a smartphone!
Looks like the newly announced 5" G3 Beat will be as good as it gets for us. Not ideal specs, but I'd still take 720p over 1440p any day. If they had made it 1080p, snap 801, and same camera, this would have made it to my shortlist.

Pondering the same... Samsung galaxy s 6 would've been great if it included a removable battery. I like to know whether I can use a phone long term without fear of the battery dying.
This is my experience with the phone so far. I've been using it for about 3 weeks and I don't have many negatives to complain about.
I came from a Nexus 5 and I was quite reluctant to buy a phone with a heavy skin on top of the android OS.
First of all, you will really appreciate how LG was able to fit a 5.5" screen into a phone that is not as large as other 5.5" phones. It is still a fairly large phone, but not to the point where it's difficult to use.
Secondly, the lollipop update has been pretty great. It feels snappier and smoother than it did on kitkat. I don't think the phone is as snappy as the S6 since it has an older processor, but I don't personally feel the quad HD screen affects the processor and graphics whatsoever. On top of that, the G3 still has one of the most pixel dense displays on the market, even being almost a year old.
If you are concerned about not being able to replace the battery, the G3 is still a great option as most manufacturers seem to be going with sealed-in batteries, unless you go with the Note series.
As mentioned earlier, I don't have many negatives to complain about other than the screen being dimmer than other displays, but that's just me nitpicking because honestly it isn't a big deal to me.
I've had the opposite experience from Yaminashi. I've had the G3 since it first came out. I have not had a smooth experience. It was livable, but barely. I just moved to something else. The thing I miss the most about the g3 are the buttons on the back.
I would say no this phone is one of the worst I have owned, it heats up so much and performance is so slow compared to other phones. They should have made the screen 1080p and it would have been great.
I am on the fence to get the G4. I love LG because I owned the G2 for the longest time and loved it. I dont like the G4 size (even compared to the s6 or g2).
I love the specs of the s6, but feel as if the G4 doesnt stack up.
I do love the fact I'd be able to root and flash roms without worry of samsung knox.
What are your guy's take?

I have a S6 and my G4 comes today so I will let you know. I've had the G2 and G3 and the only reason I moved on was because the screen broke on the G2 and my headphone jack broke on the G3. Both of those happened from me being clumsy so it's not the phone's fault. I had a note 4 and hated the lag when opening recents menu or opening dialer/answering calls. Got a S6 and I keep experiencing lag with it as well. I'm very excited about going back to LG.
I had a few G3s (16GB models) and they all lagged like hell. I'm finding the S6 pretty smooth, aside from the occasional stutter in Chrome.
Took ownership of a brown leather G4 today and I'm not that smitten with it so far. Camera doesn't seem much better than the S6 at all - in fact it seems worse in many instances, and my camera sometimes shows a pink tint in the middle which the S6 doesn't (under the same scenes).
Overall I don't think it feels anywhere near as premium as the S6, nor as nice in the hand. The glossy plastic around the edges is disappointing as it will pick up scratches and scuffs easily and overall I just don't feel like I enjoy the size and shape of it like I do the S6. The screen also seems to have a wildly inaccurate white balance.
I like that I can stick an SD card in and that it has a replaceable battery but other than that I'm going to struggle to justify NOT taking this back to the store. I'm a bit disappointed to be honest as I've read really good reviews from some critics whose opinions I trust.
Will see what tomorrow brings but personally I'd say hold off for now, especially if you already have an S6.
If you guys already have an S6 and you still want to buy a G4 as well you have too much money.

No, I've had issues with all my s6 warranty replacements. So T-Mobile is letting me jump again. So im deciding if i should or hold out.
I used jump to go from the s6edge to the g4 mainly due to the battery life on the s6. Its God awful. Plus, i nuts some of the lg features. The g2 was the best phone I've ever had.

At the same time I do want a nicer premium device.
I just wished the g4 had the 810.. 808 doesn't seem impressive. If the G flex 2 had the 810 then why couldnt they tweak an 810 to perform better like they did 808?

Hardware limitations > software tweaking.
I'm on the same boat, have the S6 but considering the G4.
I know without question the S6 is the better phone. My only gripe with it is battery life. Battery life is abysmal, and if the G4 is a significant improvement then I'm all for swapping out to the G4.
I'm just holding off and waiting for what the feedback is on the T Mobile branded G4... But I have a feeling the abysmal battery life on all current flagship is Android 5.0.2. Which even the Nexus 6 suffered from bad battery life before it was updated to 5.1

I have an S6 (4 days old) and now I have the G4 (leather). I would stick with the S6 at least that is my opinion after half a day with the G4. The G4 may grow on me, but most likely not enough to keep it over the S6. Biggest factor for my preference of the S6 is build and looks. I will probably end up keeping both though, not sure yet.
Price isnt a factor. Almost the same price.
64GB S6 memorial day sale plus 50$ mail in rebate = 629.99
Leather G4 = 599.00

Both cameras are good. I prefer that when I quick open the camera on the S6, it doesn't auto snap a photo. That drives me nuts on the G4 and I can't find a way to turn it off.
I prefer the fingerprint reader wake over knock code or knock on wake. It's just better.
Screens are both good, but brightness and sharpness are better on the S6. I like Amoled vibrance. Screen size is nice on the G4 and I'm sure many people out there will prefer it.
I have 64 gb of storage on the S6 and I prefer internal storage over removable storage. Internal is faster. All my media and files are in the cloud so I don't need over 64GB. I still think SD is a nice bonus, but I would prefer a higher internal storage amount on the G4 over SD. I can see why sappable storage may attract others though. I just don't need it.
Battery life has been good for me on the S6. I average 4-5hrs SOT. Regardless of the S6's performance, the G4 comes with 2 swappable batteries and has a huge edge on the S6 in the battery department. This is the biggest positive for me regarding the G4.
Touchwiz beats LG's software in this instance. It's just smoother and better looking with more funtional features. Both phones software have occasional stutters, but LG has far more. It could be the 808 and the Exynos at play here, but I doubt it. That's not to say that some things arent better on the G4 (camera app), they are. Just not enough to sway my opinion.
No quick charger in the box for the G4 is silly. I don't understand that decision.

I enjoy flashing roms, double tap to wake and rear buttons. And with expandable storage would be lovely! Just wonder if some things are worth the trade offs.
Will wait for more reviews and feedback.
It's all relative and a matter of personal preferences. Just choose what you think you want.

You can turn the picture feature off and just double tap to bring up camera.
Fingerprint readers (from S5 at least) are horrible as you have to do it just right and it takes a little while
Weird, I've noticed the bright/sharpness is better on the G4. Just a matter of personal experience and opinion I guess.
Should never rely on cloud storage. Look how well that has worked out for Apple. The G4 can support up to 2TB of storage (even though the largest SD card is only 1/2 a TB). I would never trust non-removable storage, personal reasons.
Nothing to counterpart here (batteries)
I've heard the new Touchwiz has been better than the previous ones. I will find that out tomorrow when my wife gets her S6 setup. I personally am tired of it coming from several Sammy's. I believe the biggest issues is Lollipop issues messing with the phones rather than each UI. Nothing an update can't fix

Changing that camera setting made the double tap camera feature much better. Is there any way I can activate with double tap camera from the homescreen? I've een playing with the camera in low light for a few hours now, and the G4 has proven to be much better in auto mode than the S6. I'm impressed.
The S5's finger print reader was terrible, as is the reader on my Note 4. The S6's reader is flawless for me.
You can't really compare brightness/sharpness if you don't currently have an S6 or had an S6 as you mentioned. (See bold) The S6 has a considerably higher brightness. That isn't opnion, it's fact and I believe that almost every flagship is brighter than the G4. Sharpeness is negligible though. Both screens are sharp.
When I was referring to the cloud = Cloud would be Play movies, Netflix, Google Play streaming, Hulu etc. Relying on those for media consumption doesn't seem risky to me. I save pictures with Google Photo's and One drive. Seems redundant enough to keep my pictures safe.
Everything is dependant on the user's needs and perception like other users have stated. I can see why someone would choose either phone depending on needs. The S6 just fits my wants/needs better. My oldest kid likes the G4 though, so It won't be going back to TMO now. We can retire his G3 instead.
I don't know if updates will fix everything with the G4. Updates never fixed the G3's stuttering (forour unit at least).
True, not having the Quick charger isn't a big deal especially if you already have a few laying around. I believe we have 4 or 5 of them in our house. Plus the spare battery really makes it useless. Still, I would have liked to have another anyway
Can you tell me if your G4 has a pinkish hue in the middle when you use the camera in low light with certain backgrounds? Seems more noticeable on grey or white backgrounds, and is not noticeable at all in normal light.

So you found the change setting? I'm not sure about the home setting. I currently don't have the phone until Monday (I've researched/read reviews about the phone and played with it in the store)
If they finally fixed the fingerprint issue, that's great! Just from watching the videos online I see you had to sorta long press the finger, rather than a few knocks on the scree. All a matter of personal preference which you like for this
I can compare this by Monday. Wife will activate her S6 later today and I'll be able to come back with this then! Do you have it auto-brightness or all the way up for both when you compared? In the store, the G4's seemed a tad better. I've seen the outside test (from numerous videos) when it's bright outside, the G4's was more superior being able to see better.
Ahh OK, miscommunication there! I still just prefer external SD. Can take out phone, swap between phones, tablets, computer etc rather than physically having to hook up and transfer/view.

I will be able to properly tell by Monday the pros/cons of daily usage and everything between the two. I've always been a Sammy guy, this will be my first phone in years that's not them. I like to have BL's unlocked and being on Verizon, I have a 99.99% change this will happen on the G4 (as G3 was within a couple months) than I EVER will on the S6. One thing I might take some time getting used to is no physical "home" button as well as the other symbols for recents/back.

Maybe a lot of G5 maybe returned but I doubt the S7/Edge as they have a lot more advantage over the HTC 10 such like water/dust proofing, fast wireless charging, much better re-sale value, screen quality, potentially a faster and reliable camera to name but a few. The G5 was just a rushed prototype, perhaps they'll get it right next flagship as I like the modular concept.

I used jump on demand for lg g5 from s7 edge and now i think i will jump again to htc 10. Only reason i jumped from s7 edge was hifi plus module but it looks like it will take a long time to come to us. In the meantime, the idea of buying module kinda died on me and now i am thinking why should i spend extra 200 bucks for module if htc 10 comes with a great audio? So yes as soon as htc 10 becomes available i am jumping again. I have to say if i have to choose between s7 edge and g5, i will pick s7 edge fast. I regretted jumpimg to g5 and that was the first time i felt regretted while in jump on demand program lol. S7 edge is that good, it has most of things right and i only wished they had an extra good audio. Only the idea of getting module resisted my thought of returning.
Sorry you wasted a Jump from the S7E to that poor excuse for a Flagship named the G5.
I actually still have 1 more Jump on Demand left to use before it resets in June. I have the S7E right now bit I've been debating on jumping to the HTC 10. The only reason I'm debating it is because I've always been an HTC fan and i prefer a better audio experience.
What I'm worried about though is the following when compared to my S7E.
1. Inferior display

Why I'm thinking about jumping to the HTC 10:
1. Better audio through speakers and 3.5mm jack.
2. HTC Sense is much better and less bloated than TouchWiz
3. Lower display response time and less input lag
In regards to design/look and feel. I think they are both nice looking phones. The S7E might get the edge due to the curved display. I also like the way the HTC 10 looks. It's a very simple machinist look if that makes any sense.
At the end of the day I am happy with my S7 Edge but am thinking about using a jump on demand for the HTC 10. Please give me some reasons why is should just hold on to the S7E or jump to the HTC 10.

You are like me lol. I liked the s7 edge probably the best phone i ever used but i want better audio experience too among other things. Also i am addicted to phones that are somewhat unique and i believe htc 10 is one of them haha. Just jump to htc 10, that is what i will do.

Yea. I figure if I jump to the 10 and don't like it that much I could always jump to the Note 6 and then the next Nexus being how my jump on demand restarts in June. Then I get 3 more upgrades.
I love Jump on demand. I feel bad for those who couldnt get it in time.

1. Don't be so quick to judge, I'd wait for Anandtech's full review. So far Joshua hasn't said anything majorly negative about it[1][2]. All I've heard is that it has a reddish tint if you look at it from non-realistic angles. Same applies to AMOLED displays. I'd personally be more concerned about getting a bad AMOLED with blotchy, uneven colors or green tint with the shades of grey..

Just saying "inferior storage speed" doesn't accurately describe the storage speed differences.They're whole different beasts.
And if you're complaining about the storage speed, then you MUST be talking about it in context of file transfers because I cannot imagine what you could possibly be doing on your phone that would need faster sequential read speed, because that's where the S7/S7E is faster where as the HTC 10 has faster sequential write speeds thanks to the SLC write cache.
Here's Anandtech's storage speed numbers from the HTC 10 battery life/storage speed article[2].
Of course this is just sequential reads and writes, what's important are the random 4K numbers because that's what using the phone is.
Unfortunately AndroBench 3.6 is borked on Android 6 and AndroBench 4 is just not consistent enough. So only sequential numbers for now..
But what we can do is look at previous random 4K read/write speeds.
And then we can guesstimate the random 4K speeds of the iNAND 7232 inside the HTC 10.
The previous version, iNAND 7132 boasted 2800/3300 IOPS for random 4K read/write respectively according to specs. But again, not sure in what circumstances you can get these numbers.
That's MBps = (IOPS * KB IO size) / 1024
(2800*4) / 1024 = 10.9MBps (plausible)
(3300*4) / 1024 = 12.8MBps (uhm, this seems a bit inflated)
iNAND 7132 was eMMC 5.0 where as iNAND 7232 is eMMC 5.1, the reason I mention that is because

So in theory we should have higher random 4K read speeds on the iNAND 7232 IF your workload has an I/O queue higher than 1. Multitasking would be one of those scenarios.

Actually the LG V10 uses the iNAND 7232, notebookcheck.net has random 4K numbers for it. 30/16MB/s read/write respectively, but I'm not sure of the settings they used with AndroBench 3. So take those numbers with a grain of salt.

I've found that in the move from AndroBench 3.6 to 4.1 that the test has become far less stable and results can vary significantly from run to run, so I usually take the mode of multiple runs to get a result to report.

On top of that, your S7 Edge has USB 2.0 which in real life tops around at 40-45MB/s while the HTC 10 has USB 3.1 Gen 1 (=USB 3.0) interface. Which is mind bogglingly fast compared to USB 2.0.
Which means that with the HTC 10 you'll be able to read/write to the phone at pretty much as fast as the storage allows, where as with the S7 Edge you're limited by the USB 2.0 transfer speed.
Aaaaaand inb4 someone mentions "but with 2x2 802.11ac you're going to have 867Mbps...". No. Just no.
You're going to be looking at ~600Mbps of real bandwidth in the best possible scenario with an excellent WiFi implementation (like iPad Pro) which is without anyone else sharing airtime with your device and standing right next to the access point. Add another device or more to the scenario or increase the distance between you and the AP > and you've dropped below USB 2.0 speeds.
Let's also throw in there the fact that HTC is going to allow us to use the Adoptable Storage feature of Android 6 > we can have truck loads of fast storage on the phone, assuming you buy a fast microSD card that is
We don't have confirmation yet but I'm hoping that the HTC 10 would have UHS-II bus interface. The A9 has UHS-I U3 so that's what we'll have at minimum (95/90MB/s cards) but it would be really nice if it would be UHS-II U3.
3. In what ways? Dxomark ranked the camera quite high. Of course it's not perfect but I wouldn't call it "inferior". It's certainly on par from what I've seen and heard.
S7/S7E auto focus speed is of course miles better and ridiculously fast thanks to PDAF but how often will you be shooting photos in perfectly lit conditions where PDAF reigns supreme?
In photos the two are very evenly matched but if video recording is more important to you, that is where the S7 is better, stabilization and noise wise.
Although the audio portion does make the 10 a bit more appealing in the video recording side of things. Stereo recording with noise cancellation is pretty freaking nice, wouldn't you agree?
Of course I would like PDAF for video recording on the HTC 10 because PDAF is freaking awesome but you can't have everything.
4. Pretty much inline with it's size. Sure I would've liked a, say 3200mAh capacity but they would've had to make the device slightly thicker, which I wouldn't mind of course, but in this day and age thinness has been

That NAND argument is only viable in file transfers, specifically from computer to the phone. I personally dont transfer filesvia wired connection, i just use airdroid and give it time to transfer. But in real world performance, The S7 has much better read speed which equates to better day to day use (app opening times etc...)
I am thinking...unlocked boot loader? If the s7 had unlocked boot loader I would have kept it. But I simply want custom roms and can't have it with the s7. The main feature of the s7 that hooked me was ip68. I mean i can just toss any phone in a zip lock baggie and use it but Still. G5 is out. I am still curious the next nexus devices and the note 6 but honestly I am tired of wielding such large phone single handedly it's getting old. I was smaller phone with huge battery, ip68, stellar audio and decent camera and display. I would choose the 10 over the s7 at this point because of boot loader. If that doesn't matter then s7.

Screen vs S7 is subjective.
For me the S7 is AMOLED, so is automatically pants, lol.
Having seen the HTC 10, I'd have definitely returned the G5 I had on order, if it had turned up, but the order was delayed to 22nd April - clearly meant to be.
You guys get a bit to technical for me (no offense whatsoever meant), but am I missing something with the screen? Sure, AMOLED is amazing in bright light situations, however I can't bear the over saturation in colors on AMOLED screens. I also read that AMOLED has a much shorter lifespan in comparison. Maybe I've been away from AMOLED too long, but I never liked them.
With regard to cameras, I shoot a vast majority in low light situations, so Ultrapixel wins all day in that respect.
I'll admit I'm a HTC fan boy, but with the M9 I was so disappointed I went to a LG V10. The sound (phones, not speaker) are very good and the camera IMHO is the best all around on a smartphone. The 10 has me itching to make the jump back to HTC. My only disappointment thus far is that they moved a speaker to the bottom. Everything else seems like a major step forward.

There has not been a phone were verizon left the bootloader unlocked. You'll have better luck buying the unlocked version and hoping it works on verizon.

Damn where do you ppl get these infos from, i have friends using the S1 and it still works with no burning what so ever. That is 7yrs.
I bet I could spot burn in on a 7 year old AMOLED phone, unless it's never been turned on.
It's just the display tech, the notification bar will almost certainly be ghosting on a phone that old.

Again, everything is subjective, but for me most important is color reproduction and saturation, which AMOLED quite frankly sucks at. I remember on my older Notes and S phones, half the pictures I took of family, skin displayed as orange on the phone, but accurate tones on my laptop or LCD/LED displays.
Add me to the club of G5 owners who ditched it. Battery life wasnt good for me. I could never get higher than 4hr sot. I never had bt running or gps either and brightness on 35-40% because auto was always too dim. Device was very fast though. Didnt have build issues but didnt feel like a $600+ phone. Preorded HTC 10 in glacier wooot wooot

Well even that is no problem, they stil look pretty good, no problems whatsoever. AMOLED is the most color acxcurate display on the market if you use Photo mode in the settings
I have used a G5 for the most part of this year. Then I upgraded to V20 for a brief period (mostly for the free projector and T-mobile promotion ). V20 was a great device, but was too big for me. Then I upgraded to G6. While it was a nice phone for average consumers, I felt like I have downgraded compared to G5 in many aspects. So, after using it for a month I am back to my good old G5! I am just gonna list my reasons below.
1. Camera: No real improvement in camera performance. Just some more megapixels in the wide angle one. I use the wide angle camera a lot, so it was a good thing, but not that important. G6 is using phase detection autofocus, compared to the laser in G5. While this is good in some situation, G5 takes much better macro-mode pictures due to laser focus.
2. Infra-red: Gone. How come they decided to remove a feature, rather than upgrading?
3. Display: G6 got a nice display, but this 2:1 aspect ratio is simply wasted real estate on top and bottom. At least on V20 the extra space was used for something useful (the second display)
4. Notification LED: A big minus. Always-on-display is good, but a LED is a lot more functional and visible. The AOD also takes a toll on the battery. Despite larger battery in G6, on my usage level the battery performance was no better than G5.
5. Removable battery: I was a big fan of the samsung note series until they ditched the removable battery in note5. Since then I used all the LG flagships, because they kept the battery removable. I hope they keep the removable battery in V30.
6. Root-ability: As of now, G6 is not rootable, and I believe there is a good chance that it will never get root. Performance improvement in SD821 is unnoticeable compared to SD820, specially when I can use a custom kernel in G5 to suit my preference.
With G6, LG basically made an eye-candy targeting a consumer base who buys Samsung and apple for the flashy looking phones. For me a phone is about functionality, not a fashion statement. While the glossy look of G6 is aesthetically pleasing, the trade-off in functionality was simply not for me. I really do hope that LG doesn't target the same market for V30. In that case G5 might as well be my last LG phone. But my G5 is going strong with zero issues, and I believe it will serve a good long time.
Agree with you on most counts. I've had every LG "G" phone since G2 and like you, V20 due to the good promotion on price and minibeam projector. V20 I too found was too big, though that quad-DAC really does make a difference. Audio is superb on it. Just got G6 and on my first week of usage. I like it so far and in hand, it feels great, as it feels like a "candybar" again, not the overly wide feeling where your hands feel stretched with G3, G4, and V20. G5 was a nice sized phone with tons of features and a seriously underrated phone. I will say this, performance on G5 and V20 was topnotch at the beginning but they too underwent the typical Android slowdown after a few weeks of use. I'm talking programs that crawl, camera super slow to open, general navigation slow, and twitchy, stuttery browsing... none of which is really apparent on an iPhone... unfortunately, Android still can't seem to figure out the buttery smooth part (maybe Pixel?). The battery life on G5 did really stink though and there's no way I could go an entire day without changing out the battery, which becomes a ritual and it's not like it's hard, but it is annoying (I had 3 batteries). My G5 wasn't without problems though - it has that notorious GPS issue... GPS signal is absolute garbage (there's an in-depth XDA thread on it) and even after sending back the G5 to LG for repairs, it developed the problem over time... so GPS is really crippled on this phone (for me and many other unlucky ones) and as most can agree GPS is one of those crucial features, I can't go back to my own copy of G5.... maybe I can pick up another used one for a good price with a good GPS unit... but that's too much trouble. I like G5 but I don't love it THAT much to go through all that trouble... if I am honest, V20 really has got it all... except the size part. V20's wide angle camera is I think slightly less wide than G5's. I like G5's wideness better.
G6 - just beautiful... but you're right. No more replaceable batteries... and LG gave the US people a normal (stinky) DAC, not like the one in V20... oh boy, you can literally hear the difference. But I also noticed LG's own music app stinks - install a 3rd party - I installed Pi Music Player and the audio quality is noticeably better than the stock music player, despite the stinker of a DAC. LG says the US customers wanted wireless charging over DAC... c'mon seriously? With USB-C, charging is so easy... I'd rather have a better DAC. And removal of IR really hurts. Maybe most didn't use it but I travel a lot for work and stay at hotels... I find myself using IR quite often to change the input source of the TV (for plugging my laptop via HDMI, using Chromecast, etc).
LG... please don't go along with the "norm"... You will not win and you will no longer have any key differentiating feature.
I have to agree, I've had my G6 about a month now and I'm not that impressed. I've had several random reboots​, and the screen freezes. If we had root, I could work with it but since we don't, I tend to use my G5 more and more..

Stock rooted with Asgard kernel.
If you don't need WiFi calling or VOLTE, Fulmics rom is a good option.
H830 and H850 are the only variants that can be rooted right? Does the 830 have all the bands necessary for ATT LTE? Or do you have to go with the 850?

i installed another main camera module and didnt work
so i have a G5 with non working main camera and the wide angle is not good for everyday pics
i like the G5 so much but that ripped my heart appart
