Post #1 also now updated with a full in-depth REVIEW, enjoy

Very nice s7yler, that'sa good and interesting phone. When you sucessfully got root it, maybe I can try to theme the phone for you. Also made it on my HDC Note 3.

just ordered mine from DHgate, Excited:fingers-crossed:

Poor 3G reception.
Hi,
I've received my S2 4 day ago.
It's wonderfull, very little, fast enought...
But I've big problem with 3g reception: very very poor!
Only if it is closed to the cell bridge you have a good signal, otherwise it change in GSM mode.
Compared with my ZTE V970 (not a champion!) it have 15 dB less in 3G mode!
So it's unusable!
GPS and WiFi is weak too.
No problem in GSM mode.
Have you same problem?
Thanks.
EDIT:
SOLVED!!!
I've opened my phone, and view that internal side of film antenna for GSM (that's for 3G too) was a little crooked; I've detached and re-attached it properly. NOW MY PHONE WORK PRETTY-WELL IN 3G NOTWORKS!
It's not a champion of reception, but it's usable now!
I'm happy...
:victory:

3G depends on what frequency/network your carrier uses. It can be different from carrier to carrier or country to country.
Mine is always connected to 3G (here in Germany), but I agree that the signal is stronger with GSM only. GPS is ok, not the fastest though, the same with the WiFi, the range is good enough, but I also could wish the speed was faster.

Hi S7yler, could you send me some files?
The SystemUI.apk, on /system/apps. And the framework-res.apk and mediatek-res.apk on /system/framework, copy and send me if you can

Ok here
http://www.mediafire.com/download/ibcps7yv6sdwbmv/SystemUI.apk

Thanks S7yler, i've themed the SystemUI, to have the G3 look on Toogles of status bar.
If you want try, simply put this modded systemUI on the same priv-app folder, and set permissions to rw-r-r, maybe during the process the phone will reboot before you put permissions, but will but normally. Anyway, if you wanna try this. Have a good backup of your Rom in hands to flash if something goes wrong, and also backup the SystemUI.apk, you already has it on mediafire, btw it's up to you.
If you try this, let me know if you like, and show some screens. You can theme more the notification bar, with the XBlast tool for Xposed.

firmware ?
hello, anyone has the opportunity to find firmware for this device? and impossible to do root !! someone is successful?
thanks

The rom you can download from here kingsing.hk/services but S2 not avalible, among other.
s7yler how you root your S2 ? I do with difficulties "read back" method to read S2 rom and flash recovery, but I do it. Now I can't boot recovery, only factory mode...
With vRoot install vRoot apk, can't install supersu and root checker says "not root"
TowelRoot not work
How you root it? :good:

It rooted it via this guide from Itxtutor (with the read back method)
http://www.china-devices.com/Thread-100-Working-ROOT-CWM-Readback-your-ROM-with-SP-Flash-Tools
The complicated part can be to find the correct HEX numbers, and connect the phone so it begins the readback process. I did it yesterday and struggled almost 1 hour with it to connect correct and start the process, but it did work in the end. (the tricky part on that phone was that I had to hold volume UP down while inserting the battery and the USB cable, and then the readback process would start without any errors, before that it always stopped up with some strange BROM/DRAM error).
Also in step 8 in Itxtutors written guide, you need to flash both the patched BOOTIMG and RECOVERY, not only the RECOVERY (as his guide only shows). Else it will not work.
Also a tip is, if it SP Flash Tool crashes, then try another version of SP Flash Tool, I have 3 versions to try with. SP Flash Tool 3.1352.01, SP Flash Tool 3.1344.0.212 and SP Flash Tool 5.1348.00, and you can also try another USB port.

Thanks for your advice s7yler!
Yes I follow Itxtutor steps, but I flash only recovery and only boot in recovery line :silly: ... ok ok!
Preloader is no stable, on off constantly, I have tried different drivers ... I have tried volume buttons but not result
I use SP 5.1352.01
Method 100% - Battery inserted, plug USB, appears green battery, (now do it fast) unplug USB, battery disappears, push download in SP, plug USB
I flash recovery and bootimg separately, two times, both times without error.
Now I hope my CWM.... volume down factory mode, volumen up nothing. I try read rom again.
UPDATE
Finaly I rooted, mtk droid tools detected how root green (rootcheker no) and I use it to reboot to recovery (I can't enter only with phone) , without install nothing automaticaly appears supersu 1.86, root explorer,... now rootcheker says yes, I update supersu... root ok
Now I have other problem, when I disable usb debugging, phone restarts

Why disable usb debugging? just let it be on, it does no harm. I even heard that some phones (other models) should run better with usb debugging set to on.

The Jiayu G2S was released on January 1, 2013. It was a significant upgrade to the G2 with a lot of hardware changes. For the price, it had an impressive list of specifications:

GPU: PowerVR SGX531
4 inch QHD IPS screen, 960x540 pixel display, OGS (One Glass Screen)

1GB RAM / 4GB ROM
Supports up to 32gb class 12 microSD card (TF card)
8MP rear camera, 2MP front camera
Supports WiFi a/b/g & WiFi hotspot, Bluetooth with EDR & A2DP, GPS & AGPS
Android 4.1 OS (Jelly Bean), multi-language

2200mah battery
Size: 125 x 61x 9.9mm
Weight: 145g with battery
Overall, I really like the look and feel of the phone. Except for the ear speaker hole, the front is one solid piece of glass, wrapped around with a very solid metal frame. The metal frame is not just a thin piece of sheet metal, but is cast metal, provides for complete rigidity for the whole phone, and should do a good job of protecting that large piece of screen glass. This also means that the phone has a bit of weight, but that feels good in my hand. Additionally, I like the more rectangular design of the phone and the more square edge down the sides that the flat metal frame provides. It is very easy to hold onto.
Call quality is very good for me. Reception seems on par with other phones I've used. The wifi might be a bit weaker than my Huawei G300, but it is fine. The screen is very nice to look at and very sensitive, but you should read below about the "jump screen" problem. You should also read below about potential problems with GPS connection issues. I've now owned two of these phones. The first had the jump screen problem, and was replaced under warranty. The replacement has terrible GPS pickup, but no jump screen problem.
The large battery means that I have no problem getting through a day of use, and I probably could use it for two days without a charge most of the time. (But I do not use the phone for gaming.) The phone runs most of the time at 1001mhz or 250mhz when on, and will only jump to 1200mhz in extreme conditions. "Deep sleep" mode is for when the screen is off, but the phone will run at 1001mhz when charging no matter if it is on and being used or not. That is an issue for phones based on this MTK chipset and not exclusive to the JY G2S.
Jiayu includes a few apps targeting the Chinese market for this phone, but other than that, the OS is mostly "vanilla" Android Jelly Bean (AOSP). The phone comes already rooted, so freezing or deleting unwanted apps is a simple solution for what you don't want. There are a number of modified roms available already, including the Lewa rom (http://www.needrom.com/phone-roms/jiayu/g2s/). But you should note that later hardware versions of this phone have different components. You should make a note of what the rom version is that came installed on your phone so that you know what hardware version you are using.
"Jump Screen" Problem Solved?:
Many of the first batch of phones were plagued with screen problems. Commonly referred to as the "jump screen" problem, the result is that when scrolling through screens of data, the screen just "jumps" to a different location without any apparent reason. The screen also "quivers" when touching it, even if you aren't moving your finger. Jiayu promptly acknowledged the problem and tried to correct it with a quick ROM update released on January 9, 2013. (The build number of the ROM is: G2S 20130108-104044.) This ROM update did seem to work for some, but for others the problem persisted.
At this point, I personally don't know if the problem has been completely solved in the manufacturing of subsequent batches of the phone. My phone had the problem, and flashing the new ROM did not solve it. I returned the phone for replacement under warranty and did receive a replacement phone that does not have the problem. So whether or not there still is a manufacturing problem, Jiayu can replace the phone with one that works. However, see below for the GPS connection problem that I now have.
GPS Connection Problems:
There are also a number of users here who are reporting difficulty with weak GPS fix. My GPS fix on my first phone was excellent, but my replacement phone is not good at all. It has been suggested to install "Faster GPS" from the Play Store, which will let you set your location. Also, you can look at this post from later in this thread for more information: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=39975417&postcount=209. (Please post any solutions you discover in this thread.)
ROM Flashing:
One of my initial struggles was getting the official rom flashing tool to work. I finally got things going, and I hope I can help others who "just don't get it". So if you want some detailed instructions in English for how to flashing a new official ROM onto the Jiayu G2S, have a look at the second post. (If you are flashing a third-party rom, follow the rom builder's instructions.)
ClockworkMod Recovery:
"Thingbreaker" has provided us with a working CWM Recovery. Here's his post link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37521066&postcount=28
There are two ways to flash the CWM Recovery image: using the ROM flashing tool (harder) or using Mobileuncle Tools (easier).
To use Mobileuncle Tools, install it from the Play Store (free). Copy the CWM Recovery image file to the root of your SD card, making sure there are no spaces in the filename. Run Mobileuncle Tools and choose Recovery Update. Choose the recovery image file that Thingbreaker provided.
To use the ROM flashing tool, you first you need to understand how to flash a complete rom as explained in the second post of this thread directly below. After you know how to do that, then look at this post to learn what is different about only flashing the recovery image: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37499848&postcount=23
Conclusion:
I do not recommend purchasing this phone. Period. Until Jiayu can do a better job of quality control, I don't recommend their products. There are other companies out there who's phones are only slightly more expensive, but who have a much better reputation for quality control.
Jiayu, if you are reading this, you need to do better! And you really need to improve your repair department as well. Sending me a replacement phone with a GPS problem causes me to wonder if you are using the "shuffle" method of passing around bad phones instead of repairing them. I'm NOT a satisfied customer.
“Unofficial” Guide to Flashing the Official Jiayu G2S ROM
Disclaimer: I’m just one guy who got this to work after a lot of trial and error. I’m only telling you how I did it. I don’t claim it will work for you. I don’t guarantee you won’t brick your phone by following these instructions. And you should understand that if you don’t bother to read carefully and do exactly what I say, you really can brick your phone. Also, it seems there has been an upgrade to some of the components in later versions of the phone released in March 2013, and you will want to verify which version of the phone you have before installing any roms. You should be able to check the rom build information for the date on your particular phone. This guide only describes how to flash the official rom from Jiayu for the G2S. If you intend to install some other third-party rom, please follow that rom builder's instructions.
Pre-requisites:
You need a PC running Microsoft Windows 2000 or higher.
If you haven’t previously installed msxml 6.0 and .net Framework 4.0 or higher on you Windows PC, do so first. Get them directly from Microsoft. (I assume you know how to search.)
Download the following:
Latest Jiayu G2S ROM update; the rom I installed was the G2s_20130109-104044 stock rom: http://pan.baidu.com/share/link?shareid=157669&uk=839171988 (Note: the build number of the ROM after installation is: G2S 20130108-104044; don't be confused by the name of the file.) Use Google Translate if you need to see which button to push to start the download. Also note that there is a newer official rom for newer versions of the phone. The rom date is 20130306. I don't know what happens if you install the newer version on an older phone.
This zip file contains the Android USB driver, VCom drivers, SP Flash Tool, and a document of these instructions (ReadMe.doc): http://www.mediafire.com/?tc4q3wy5eabowhf
Unzip the files you downloaded and move/copy folders and files where they need to go:
Within the rom zip that you downloaded from the Baidu website, you can find the \G2s_20130109-104044 sub-folder. This folder contains the actual rom files (14 files). Move this entire folder onto your desktop. The reason for doing this is that there are folders within the zip file whose names contain characters that your version of Windows might not be able to read, even if you can see them in Windows Explorer (the filemanager). This will cause you trouble when you try to flash the rom.
After unzipping the driver and flash tool zip file, you will find the \USB-VCOM-Drivers folder with \INF and \SYS sub-folders. In the \INF folder there are three other sub-folders: \ 2K_XP_COM, \Vista, and \Win7.
Copy the \INF\cdc-acm.inf file into your C:\Windows\inf folder. (You may have to give permission to do this.)
Based on your version of Windows (2K-XP, Vista, Win7, 32-bit or 64-bit), locate the one correct usb2ser_????.inf file and copy it to your C:\Windows\inf folder. (You may have to give permission to do this.)
Copy both the \SYS\androidusb.sys and \SYS\usbser.sys into your C:\Windows\System32\driver folder. (You may have to give permission to do this.)
Install the drivers:
Plug your phone into your computer with a USB cable. If you had not previously installed the drivers, the system will start trying to install them.
If the system asks you to choose to install the drivers, click on “install the software automatically” and proceed.
If system is unsuccessful in locating and installing the drivers, you can try to go back and locate the drivers yourself by pointing to the individual files, but this should not happen if you properly copied the drivers over to your C:\Windows system folders.
BACKUP YOUR DATA NOW!
Proceeding beyond this point is going to mean that EVERYTHING on you phone is going to be deleted and a new system will replace it.
You have been warned!
Warning!
Attempting to install a rom that does not use the correct “scatter” file (see description below) will brick your phone. Don’t do it. If you aren’t sure a rom is made for your phone, don’t attempt to install it.
Install the updated ROM:
1. Turn off your phone, open the back, and remove the battery.
2. Plug your USB cable into your PC and phone. If your PC attempts to install drivers, let it finish.
3. Unplug your phone from the cable.
4. Start the SP Flash Tool program by clicking on the Flash_tool.exe file. If you get a security warning, allow it to run.
5. Click on the “Scatter-loading” button on the right side.
6. Browse to your \Desktop\G2s_20130109-104044 folder and choose the MT6577_Android_scatter_emmc.txt file. All other files will be chosen automatically.
7. Click on the “Firmware -> Upgrade” button.
8. Plug your USB cable firmly into the phone. The Flash Tool will automatically start flashing your new rom. Wait for it to finish and show you the green circle.
9. Unplug your phone from the cable.
Rebooting the phone:
1. Install your battery.
2. Very carefully, without touching the screen, push the power button.
3. Do not touch the phone as it boots!
4. After it has completed booting, you may again use your phone normally.
Following the advice that it might help if the phone is very cold when updating to the new rom, I tried putting it in the refrigerator. Unfortunately, that did not seem to help in my case. The phone still has the "jump screen" problem.
Of course, any other ideas would be appreciated as well.
Has anyone yet been successful in creating a Recovery mod (i.e. ClockworkMod Recovery)?

twrock: Make sure you do not have screen protector applied and you do not touch the screen during the first boot after flashing.
Thanks for the advice. But I'm not using a screen protector, and I am being very careful about not touching the phone. Nothing seems to help.

Have you identified production date of your phone? Is there a sticker anywhere? We might come to a conclusion later on, of which date onward the factory has solved the problem... It might be a hardware problem after all.
Still waiting for mine to arrive...
hi there, for those who already have in their hands the g2s is it possible to give more reviews about its gps and the camera especially at night? thanks
Hi.
I have just created a ClockWorkMod recovery image for the Jiayu G2S.
I don't have the phone yet, it is still on its way, so I can't guarantee that it will work.
Download: http://db.tt/vFO4S6Mc
When flashing this recovery, use the same scatter file as for the stock rom.
If you don't have the scatter file here it is: http://db.tt/Z4TWPowQ
Please try it at your own risk, and give me feedback.
I received mine today. I am stunned. This thing is amazing. After all the HTC's I have this is a dream.
Mine doesn't seem to have the screen problem, but has the 20130108 firmware. I will wait a couple of days and see how it's running and the flash it.
CWM for this would be amazing and unabridged CyanogenMod would be even greater. Wonderful times!!!

I'll give it a try.
What method did you use to create it? Did you use Koush's "builder"?
I also tried to make a CWM Recovery using the builder. The builder said it was successful, but the resulting CW recovery would not boot.
I'll let you know when I have the time to try it. Thanks.
Anyone know how to get rid of the Google search bar at the top of the standard Launcher? I'd guess that Google doesn't want us to be able to get rid of it.

I don't know if my experience is much help. I live in Taiwan, so I suspect my GPS satellite locks were about the same as they would be in China. So for what it's worth....
My first GPS use locked in less than two minutes. I was outside in a parking lot on a clear day when I started. I got into the car after about 30 seconds and put the phone on the dashboard. It was locked in before the screen shut off (which is set at 2 minutes). I did not have Wifi connected, so no help from that. Subsequent to that first use, locking in took less than 15 seconds.
I haven't taken any pictures at night, so I can't help you there.
I'll mention here that if I decided to order this phone today, I'd find a way to get it straight from Jiayu. I ordered mine from Etotalk.com (and wasted money on their "Etotalk mod rom"), and they aren't being very helpful with aftersales follow up. I finally gave up on them and am now talking straight to Jiayu support. But I have to wait until after Chinese New Year to send it back. They said that they would not be able to replace the phone until after Chinese New Year anyway, so sending it back now would only mean I would be without the phone longer.
hello, i'm G2S first batch too, what do you mean about shaking problem? is it shake hard ? i got the problem while charging the phone, but if it's unplug, it's seems to be normal.
i'll try the new firmware from this thread, thanks for the link
by the way, i've ported the CWM recovery for G2S, i'll upload it if you need it
For those who already have the phone, is the signal strong even if you are inside buildings?
I'm asking this because many users report that jiayu g3's signal is very week when you get indoor, and i'd like to know if it was corrected in this version.

I also tried to make a CWM Recovery using the builder. The builder said it was successful, but the resulting CW recovery would not boot.
I'll let you know when I have the time to try it. Thanks.

Yes I have used the builder.
So did anyone try my CWM recovery?

Optimus F3 ROM

I can not find a forum for the Optimus F3, and do not know if this is the correct place for this. I rooted my phone and started cleaning out some of the bloatware that shipped with it. I managed to delete a few things that were important to the device. What I am looking for is a copy of the original(LS720ZV5) ROM that shipped with the device.
Thanks,
Buddy Ochoa
Please let me know what you deleted that was important im ready to delete the bloat on mine right now lol.
Here is the doc I wrote up on another site to restore the image. Note this is for VM/Sprint.
Flashing your LG F3 to Stock ROM. This will wipe out all data and applications and restore to out of box.
1) Download and install the stock drivers from LG’s site
http://tool.xcdn.gdms.lge.com/dn/downloader.dev?fileKey=UW00120120425
2) Download and install the LG F3 Flash Utility. Do not run the application after it installs. After the installation there is a MegaLock.dll file in the zip. Copy this over to the installation directory of the flash utility (C:\LG\LGFlashTool)
http://oudhitsquad.com/android/LGE/Firmware/LS720/LS720ZV5_00.zip
3) Create a folder on your desktop called LG
4) Download and then extract to the LG directory the Dll for the Flash Tool Utility
http://tool.xcdn.gdms.lge.com/dn/downloader.dev?fileKey=CT109876368442163684421/[LGFLASHv151]LGLS720_20130509_Download.zip
5) Download and then extract to the LG directory the stock ROM
http://oudhitsquad.com/android/LGE/Firmware/LS720/LS720ZV5_00.zip
6) Power off your LG phone
7) While holding the up volume button, connect the phone to your computer via the micro USB cable. You should hear the USB connection activating and if this is the first time connecting it, will see a configuring device message (at least in Windows 8). On the screen of the phone you should now see “Download Mode” DO NOT UNPLUG the device until the process is complete.
8) Open device manager and expand ports (COM & LPT). Expand this and you should now see your com ports. Double click the “LGE Android Platform USB Serial port”.

Click the port setting tab, then the advanced button. Change the COM Port number to 41 like below. Click ok twice and close device manager.
This image has been resized. Click this bar to view the full image.
9) Next Launch the LG Flash utility. On the pop-up for the model config, click the “Select Manual Mode”. For the Dll, select the LGLS720_20130509_LGFLASHv151.dll that we download to the LG folder on the desktop. For the S/W select the ROM that we downloaded to the LG folder LS720ZV5_00.bin. Ensure that the connection mode is set to USB and the Upgrade DL is selected. Click OK.
10) On the main screen of the LG flash utility press the yellow right arrow button. When it says “Ready!!” in yellow, disconnect your phone from the USB cable. ***LEAVE THE LG FLASH UTILITY RUNNING ****
11) Disconnect the USB cable from the phone. Wait 5 seconds.
12) Connect the phone back to the USB cable. The flash utility should start updating the firmware and show a percentage. Once it hits around 85% the phone will reboot. You can now disconnect and close out of the Utility.
LG Tool
Hello,
Would like to know is anyone can help me out with this problem. Please not I am running Windows 8.1 pro 64bit laptop
I have installed the LG Flash tool kit. Followed directions. put phone in download mode and changed pot to 41 and MagaLock.dill was not in the download but checked and it was installed. Opeded LG Flash Tool and it says LG USB/Parallel Lock Key is not detected. So I click ok and brings me to a login box with country, ID and password.
Just do not know what went wrong. Thanks in advance for any help.
Hey Cris, I'm sure you've solved this by now but for anyone else, with the LG Flash Tool, you get prompts upon opening if you DON'T copy the MegaLock.dll into the application folder. Also, the first part about the Optimus F3 not having a category is a good point, it has enough posts to warrant one. Anyone know how to make it?
The url link to get your copy of the stock ROM for the Optimus F3 (LS720) (Sprint) on oudhitsquad.com is broken because the domain name is gone. Can you please re-post it somewhere else so we all can try it out? Also, any problem with using TWRP to install the ROM instead?
Yeah, can someone please reupload the LG F3 Flash Utility? Looks like http://oudhitsquad.com/ isn't coming back. The only other place I can find LS720ZV5_00.zip is some Chinese site where you have to pay to join.
I'm looking for a stock FreedomPop ROM also, my LG Optimus F3 LS720VSLR (LS720ZV8) is bricked and my backups (3 of them!) are all corrupt.

Hi everyone. I have everything to get these phones up and running again uploaded to https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=127434
Flash Tool w/megalock, LG Driver, Stock ROM (v7, take the OTA to v8, then root/install NoQ-Slide APK in place of original apk in /system/apps if you want)
You should also be able to just flash the stock rom and install the FreedomPop Apps to get back to the freedompop functionality. (these are the Virgin Mobile phones I have.
I've never bothered with TWRP on these phones - didn't have much luck with it a few years ago.
Hope this helps Let me know how things are going. I just dusted off these F3s and redid them for little handhelds. I have way too many phones ;(

Thanks for your uploads. I actually already found a stock FreedomPop ROM elsewhere. My FreedomPop phone came with TWRP 2.8.0.0 installed - the FP phones are already rooted. I don't know if any later versions of TWRP support this model.
Interestingly, I found that FreedomPop got a little too aggressive with de-bloating. Some missing lockscreen functionality (independent wallpaper and variable position pattern lock) can be recovered by installing the appropriate system files (LockScreen3.apk and LockScreen3.odex) from a Sprint ROM. This is a good security feature that IMO should not have been removed; if your lock pattern is always in the same place, it eventually becomes easier for someone to get into your phone by "reading" the pattern from wear on the screen or screen guard. I also restored a few other missing standard apps that I find useful, such as the generic email app, alarm clock, memo, voice recorder and weather apps.

According to the European legislation a terminal may be rooted without so we lose the warranty, but instead to use the phone we have to accept LG conditions that say that we can not customize the phone.
As it seems, commented by Spanish users that took your phone Technical Assistance Service (T.A.S.) still this rooted and with installed CWM, T.A.S. spent in warranty, so this method is not necessary, but you never know with whom you can bump sat, so here you have remove the ROOT and leave the phone as something out of factory.
UNROOTED METHOD
INFORMATION
This method serves to take the phone to the T.A.S., or if you want to leave it clean.
Download a ROM to your terminal, operated and country, use this link LG Phone Firmware G2
It enters to the CWM or TWRP Recovery.
Now get from:
CWM - Wipe Data / Factory Reset
TWRP - Advanced Wipeo, and the beams all but the SD.
Go to the reset menu or advanced and click on turn off.
While you press Volume+ connect the USB to the PC, enter Download Mode, as the images above
It runs Windows and follow this LG G2 Stock Firmware (Go Back to Stock)

one problem with all that - "UNROOTED (White) = The phone was never rooted." should read "UNROOTED (White) = The phone isn't rooted at this time."
my d802 always returns to that state after I unroot and go back to stock I have to do 2 x full factory reset and using the power button down and vol down trick then if you go into download mode it always shows as unrooted in white.

basically I cannot talk for any other model apart from d802 as this is what I have. but basically all you need to do to get it to show unrooted is to download the lg mobile support tool > open it > plug in usb while holding power and vol up with phone OFF to get into download mode > open the LG mobile support tool > go to options (top right) and press upgrade recovery.... the tool will download the original stock firmware onto the pc then install it on the phone. DO NOT unplug it until 100% on the PC. the phone will reboot about 80% on the pc but phone will have reached 100%. next do 2 factory resets using the power button and vol up method and you will find the unrooted status re-appears if you go back into download mode. Its also worth noting that it works best and flawlessly on com port 4 some ppl have experienced issues on other com ports.
obviously I accept no responsibility for you breaking your phone if you try it but I have done this at least 70 x to get out of bad fashes and it works every single one.
takes you about 30 min for the file to download but without that file downloading its probably about 5 minutes user input the longest/hardest bit being getting into the factory reset screen. lol.

ok so if press the start button on windows then type in device manager in the little box at bottom and press enter it will open up.
now put the phone in download mode (be sure to use a rear usb port too, then when the pc recognizes it go to your device manager, it will show Ports (COM & LPT) in the list and when you press the little plus sign to the left of the name you will see the phone and the port number being used. i.e. LGE AndroidNet USB Serial Port(COM7).
right click it and press properties > port settings tab > advanced > the COM port number is at the bottom of the box click it and select 4. it will probably tell you something else is using it but that is fine it makes no difference click ok then yes and ok again. Now your phone should show as COM Port 4 in the device manager. now close device manager and carry on using lg support tool.

OK, I have personally tried port 5, and 45 port and not have had problems, since this method which I intend to use the official program, with the difference that we say you must firmware flasher.
Thank you for your information, I used the method proposed for some years with my KM900 and my P990, and I have to say that it works perfectly, and not only that, also the firmware that is installed is suitable to the country, model and telephone operator.
The two methods do the same thing, but his left it because I sometimes giving problems, there were times that said that the firmware that had was the more modern and wouldn't update, I am referring to below the D802 models

Hello! Does your method work with a custom recovery and after the reset will it be gone?
i unrooted my D802 and when it was done my storage reduced from 32gb to 10gb . do you have any idea how to fix it?
What are differences between 10A-10B-20A-20B? I have a 16 GB Italy H3G D802, which rom have I to download?
I've checked a logs and found that com.lge.hiddenmenu.RCT_Check/RootingCheckActivity is running during that flow.
Then, dumped all framework and app files and searched for that activity.
Founded in HiddenMenu.odex file, deodexed ...
Actually they are reading value from that file: /persist/rct.cfg
There is second file that this activity cheks: /persist/rct
There is a logic there if file not exist /persist/rct then show RCT check disabled.
May be that will permanently disable root check?
There could be some other application (service or script) that actually doing root check and write this rct.cfg file.
---------- Post added at 03:59 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:15 PM ----------
Tried to remove that two files.
But device restoring them after rebooting.
Needs to find a way how to log who is accessing that file.
Excuse me, I cannot understand.
I have to:
1 - Install CWM or TWRP
2 - Make a Full Wipe using CWM or TWRP
3 - Update firmware using normal procedure wich downloads and install the correct firmware on my phone
Is this correct?
I ask because doing only the 3rd point I still have "rooted" in download screen.
Perhaps I am missing the full wipe in TWRP.
Any help appreciated
OK, found description for rctd tool
Some workaround:
1. If you create two folders in target folder with the same names as that rct and rct.cfg names than rctd won't able to overwrite then, and from hidden menu device won't display rooted status;
2. Remove rctd tool and put clean files rct and rct.cfg from the unrooted device. Files could be found there.
But still OTA detect root

Ok, looks like from 4.4.2 rtcd no longer exists but you need the files in /persist folder.
So this should not be a problem.
You root only adb, you take the files and put them in a safe place.
You do whatever you want.
You restore the 2 files (while you're root)
You do a full wipe and a firmware recovery.
Thos should take it to a total unroot phone.
Am I right?

First Look Video
Full Review
Welcome to another "First Look" on a china phone. In this video we will have a look at the 5.5" Cubot X15. A very stylish chinaphone in good quality. In the video I also compare the Design with the LeTV S1, so check it out
Cubot X15 MTK6735, 5.5 FHD, 2.5D Glass, 4G LTE, OTG, SmartWake
The manufacturer Cubot are not exactly known for visually beautiful smartphones. But the new model called Cubot X15 is a whole new story. It is built very sturdy and has a very solid aluminium frame, so there is no way to bend it. The backcover is made of plastic, but this can not be opened, so you can not remove the battery. This is a dual sim dual standby smart phone. In general, the smartphone looks very nice and cool and almost like something from LeTV. Nevertheless, it is quite heavy in the hand, because it also include a large battery.

It is not waterproof
I have had this phone for a week now and its actually really good. The screen is quite responsive there seems to be no lag on even when there is a load on it, the brightness control and auto brightness is quit reasonable and in my opinion better than my previous phone the s4. The shut down and reboot times are very fast even when booting for the first time. Battery life is really good, when just normally using it no games just the occasional looking stuff up on google, using facebook all day and texting and calling it last be 61 hours. Gaming on it and heavy used produced an up time of 37 hours. The speaker shocked me since there is a grill for a second speaker but there is only one on the bottom, but sound quality is great. Call quality is pretty good people who normally used sound mumbled come in more clearly and i can actually make out what they are saying. Gaming performance is very good, hardly any lag from actual graphics or processing only lag for me came when my wifi was being bogged by my roommate. The screen itself is fairly water resistant but not water proof and i dont plan on testing that any further. The only con i really have found so far is that i cant root it whether it is my own ignorance on this type of phone or there isnt a reliable method out yet it still upsets me. My personal overall rating would have to be 8.5/10 I would definitely recommend this phone to people whom are on a budget and want a nice phone
Still no root access anyone? Or even a Snapchat fix? That's the only reason I want root, sad I know. No lenses on Snapchat is doing my head in
McMCC in the russian forum 4pda rooted his Cubot X15.
He used Pack-Flashtool-v5.1528.00.000.rar what seems to be the flash-tool of mediatek.
Maybe someone can try if he reaches to root his phone with these tools.
Sorry I can not post links yet.
That's good to know. I literally have no idea how to do that but thanks for giving me hope.

Finally got a Successful ROOT!
So after rooting I installed Nova and deleted the stock launcher and it improved responsiveness tenfold. I also started ripping out other apps that I know I'll never use like hotknot, Launcher, and have installed 3C Toolbox which after setting up TRIM and turning on all maintenance on boot has really helped. Droidoptimizer is awesome as well.
Everything you need to RooT
Alright, So this is everything that I managed to find, compile, tweak, and finally get to work on my Cubot x15 which should work for every other cubot x15. I'll tell you exactly how I managed to get root working and provide a link with the working cwm and drivers and the stock rom and a way to flash back to it. I used the stock 5.1 x15 scatter file to map out CWM and it works for me so far. Sorry I'm not too much of a writer but I'll try my best.
1. Every thing you need plus probably some you dont, https:// www.dropbox.com /sh/4iskxmmzxvj48z9/AACIs5Vm3Q_2yxGMIqktKadGa?dl=0
2. Now this is going to be how I did it step by step, if you know a better way or can see how i'm setting it up then help us if you know a faster way. I installed ADB-setup-1.4.2.exe first, hit yes on the 3 things that it asks. now these drivers won't detect the x15 but it installs all the ADB where it needs to go, mainly in C:\ADB and users\.android so if you know how to do it you can skip this part but if not I would install it.
3.Okay, so on your cubot go to settings, about phone, and tap on build 7 times to enable developer options. In developer options turn on USB debugging and OEM unlocking. Now OEM unlocking is going to wipe your phone back to stock, backup what ever you can like pictures, music, and so fourth, if you have a microSD card in your phone it won't wipe that so migrate what you can to your SD. Now this is the part that I got stuck on for a while trying every MTK tool and adb command so I'll save you some time. After you turn OEM unlocking on, power off your phone and then turn it back on while holding VOL + or up and power together, this should bring you into to a black screen with the choice to boot into Recovery/FastBoot//Normal, volume + changes choices and Vol - selects. Well need to manually put it into fastboot mode after the next step. so go to normal for now and reboot.
4. So download Nicks Cubot x15 root TooLs, there are the cubot drivers that we need in adb_fastboot_utils, what i did was unrar'd that folder into C:\ADB and replaced that adb drivers that we installed in the last step with the new ones we need for the cubot, it works pretty well. Install them by replacing the other ADB drivers but if it doesn't take then you can right click on your computer, go to manage, device manager, click in the window where you don't select anything , like under Universal Serial Bus controller when it's closed, you do this so that the action tab will then let you select add legacy hardware. Go to Action, Add Legacy Hardware, click on next, select install the hardware that I manually select from a list, Next, show all devices highlighted, Next, Have Disk, then browse to C:\ADB and find the folder, I'm using windows 8 so I ended up in C:\adb\usb_driver_mtk_win8 and click the .inf file. If windows gives you **** about not being signed and fails then you have to reboot while holding shift, go to advanced options and reboot without driver enforcement, i think it's number 7. if you do have to do that just repeat the device driver install steps and it should work. Now, after you get all this installed you can test it by opening CMD and typing adb devices. Your phone should show up but it will say unauthorized, if not make sure USB debugging is turned on in developer options and that your phone is plugged in via USB cable. if you get the unauthorized message open your lock screen and your phone should be asking you to authorize your computer, check always remember computer and authorize.
4. So now for the fun part. If you did it correctly you can now see your phone by typing adb devices in CMD prompt. If you can then make sure you saved what you wanted onto your sdcard and go to developer options and tick OEM unlocking again. now you should still have your ADB CMD prompt window open with your device being seen, if thats the case type, cd C:\adb, which should change your command directory to C:\ADB, after you switch directories type, adb reboot bootloader, your phone should reset to a black screen with some options, VOL + changes options and VOL - selects, if you have the option, select fastboot, if not then type fastboot devices. If you don't see your device serial number, and instead see "<waiting for device>", fastboot is not configured properly on your machine but if you do see your device type, fastboot oem unlock. Now go to your phone and it will prompt you to make sure you want to unlock your bootloader, VOL + to accept or VOL - to reboot. hit VOL + and CMD prompt will let you know when it's finished. After it's finished. Leave the CMD prompt open and your phone in Fastboot mode. and read the next step.
5. Alright so your phone should be in fastboot mode, now in my included root tool kit I have included recovery images, recovery.img is the stock one and Cwm_recovery.img is the one we want to flash. So copy cwm_recovery.img into C:\ADB if you installed the adb drivers in step 2 or the cwm recovery to where ever your sdk tools are. RENAME cwm_recovery.img to just recovery.img, if you're lazy just select rename and delete cwm_. So it should be sitting in C:\ADB\Recovery.img along with fastboot and adb that you copied.
6. So after moving the new cwm_recovery.img that you renamed to recovery.img into your c:\adb folder you're almost done, type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img and after a couple of seconds Fastboot will flash the image and give you a success/failure notification. If successful, you're all set. To check out the new recovery image you have to reboot by typing fastboot reboot or just holding the power button down. Now hold VOL + and power to reboot to the options screen with Recovery, Fastboot, Normal. VOL + until you highlight Recovery and then press VOL -. You should boot into your new CWM recovery. I have included SuperSu.Zip, BusyBox.Zip, and Xposed Framework.Zip. I flashed all of these but not at the same time. I did SuperSu first and rebooted to see if it would boot and it did. SuperSu rooted the phone enough to where I installed busybox.apk but you can restart and flash busybox.zip. Now with Xposed after I flashed it, it took a minute to boot and it started optimizing android apps, it restarted 4 times or so before completing optimization so don't freak out, it will optimize them all and then boot. You should now have a fully rooted Cubot x15 complete with xposed framework.
If you have any questions or if I wasn't clear enough on a certain part please feel free to ask and I'll try my best to help. I'll even reflash my phone if you get stuck and need help, we'll figure it out. Any ways, I hope this helps you guys and it has been working stable for me so far.
Hello, thank you for your detailled instructions, but i can not open the dropbox link. so i could not get the cwm_recovery.img. Please shre it once more. Thanks

Android tablet, how to disable kiosk mode or install new firmware

I am new to the android programming world. I own an iQR70 device from MLS that is using -if I read well- the kiosk mode for its own application called MAIC (something like Amazon's Alexa virtual assistant).

The real pain with this device is that the application is buggy does not get any updates and overall does not work properly.
So, my questions are, a) is there any way to disable the kiosk mode and work with it as a normal tablet? or desperately b) Can I install a compatible firmware? I don't care for the data inside.
You can check for update. Look for android version of tablet. You can check their site for any upgrade of software.
You can flash other firmware. Find compatible firmware as per your model.
You can disable apps same as you do on android mobile.
My tablet currently Is dead boot and I am trying to find the test points. Anyway, I have no access to the android os to disable apps. The virtual assistant is the only app I can use, all others are forbidden.
Hi sdancer,
I got the same device and it's stuck in bootloop as well, after I experimented a bit too much. Stock recovery ist not working (when I select it in the boot menu it just reboots again), I can only get into Fastboot mode, but the PC won't recognize the device at all, because I guess I don't have the necessary drivers, USB connection never worked.
Did you manage to get it back on? And does your PC recognize your device?

Can you send commands under fastboot from your pc; if the drivers are the problem then try to fix them. In my case I deleted the Preload partition so I can not even power up the device. The only solution in my case, is the hardware reset using kolo connection pin shorted with ground and immediately flash from a stock Rom or a previously saved backup. I didn't find time to try it yet.

No, I can't send any commands, unfortunately. I can't finx the drivers either, because I never had them. The MTK drivers I installed did never work. I could never connect it to the PC before, because it was never recognized. Did your PC recognize device at all? Or does it recognize the other one you have, which is working?
I opened MAIC and tried to find the test spot, but there is really NOTHING written on the spots (No GND, no Kcolo, just nothing at all). I tried connecting some of the spots, but it didn't work.
If you try it and find out, would you be so kind to share?
By the way, I was able to get into the developer options by chance. When you press the small sun (swipe down on the main screen, and tap on the small sun on the right side, where you set the display brightness, several times)
Usually a prompt will pop up and ask for a password (which I couldn't find anywhere, not even their support would tell me)
But I was lucky once and got into these settings when there was some kind of bug in one of the previous versions. But I couldn't flash anything onto it, because as I said, my computer wouldn't recognize the device.

Hi, the developer mode is very essential to use the adb (Android debug bridge) and finally disable the kiosk mode. Can you explain how to enable it, because I am not sure if understand well.
My device is dead boot, does not power up currently, but I have another one that works. Before that, yes it connected with my windows, that's how I flashed it and finally bricked it. I have the drivers and they works just fine. In you case you don't have dead boot device, cos you can power it on and use fast boot.
So you don't need hardware reset. Just fix the drivers, if you need them, I can send them to you.
PCB does not have any indication of kolo pin joint. I didn't find anything either, but I am gonna use the mediatek pinout diagram I found, and proceed with test & trial method.

Well, basically just try this, (for the one that still works):
- You just let it boot normally until you see the MAIC woman on the main screen.
- Swipe down from the top of the screen, so you can get to this menu, you know, where you can access "Home", "Music", "Video Call" etc.
- You will see the brightness adjustment bar with a big sun and a small sun. Tap the sun on the right side of the bar about 9 times
- Now you'll see a message pop up, which asks you for a password
And this is where I got stuck for a long time. And usually you can't get past this point I guess.
But one day, when they updated the software to V 4.01 I just could access the developer options and enable ADB and stuff. I have no idea how that worked, it must have been a bug within the version. After another update of the MAIC software (V 4.02), I couldn't access it anymore either.
Maybe you're lucky and you'll be able to get into it too, if you didn't install the latest update yet.
What I did was, I installed a launcher (I was able to use the devices browser and access the apk) and then I could switch between Kiosk mode and the "normal" android display. If you could manage to install any launcher (I used Evie Launcher and it worked great) you can use it like a tablet (it's slow as hell, though).

That would be soooo great, if you could share the drivers! It would help me a lot. Because like you, I would try flashing a stock ROM, too, and maybe we'll find a way to enable ADB with a modified ROM.

Well, let me know, if you find something! I gave up already, because I really didn't find the right spots. On the small PCB on the left, if you unscrew it and turn it around, there are several more gold points, btw. Maybe you'll find something there. And on the small board (where the Buttons for Power, Volume + and Volume - are located) there are some golden points too.

No problem at all, I will attach them (drivers) on Monday when I return back to my office. I will attach you also screenshots from my device manager to know how windows recognize them.
This is all you need in your case, don't bother with the hardware reset.

That's awesome! Thank you in advance.
Yeah, I guess the hardware reset really takes some time and a lot of trial and error.
But if you manage to do it, let me know, I'm just curious in general, if that's possible with this device.
To Flash your device,
1) Install the drivers
2) Press Download from SP Flash Tool
2) Connect USB
3) Connect the power outlet from your device (in this case) or connect the battery
****WARNING: DONT FORMAT THE PRELOAD or you will get a DEAD BOOT device, use ONLY DOWNLOAD and not download+format

Hey @sdancer, thank you for the drivers. But I must do something wrong, because it's still not detected. It's not showing in my device manager and nothing happens in SP Flashtool.
I tried the automatic install and the manual install, but still nothing :/
Could you maybe explain how exactly you installed them? Maybe I'm making a mistake there.
1) Check the USB cable and make sure it works fine for data transfers (some cables are only for charging and does not contain the data wires inside)
2) Download the drivers https://mega.nz/file/ePITwCbA#DvF-SAOA8_nI0vFReV_fR1JuDJa_1us_SDnQKUstoZ4
3) Follow the instructions I recorded for you at

Hi again, sorry it took a while to reply. So, I tried, and it does find the device now, but only as "Unknown device" and not as "Android Device". I tried several drivers but it won't connect, when I try SP Flashtool.
Really tough thing, this MAIC, haha.

Hi
I suppose that this is a driver's problem, you should try to fix it someway.
Hello good people! I did a factory reset because this device was not working good and it was really buggy, I did this before when i had problem with the device, but now I'm stuck at location selection and can't pass it! Please take a look at my pictures, to clear the situation.
I'm seeking for help for months now, so, if anyone can help me, I will be really grateful
Thank you, Marko
