best app to mask wifi tethering - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

I am an att n3 gu,y but just bought a rooted 900t for a friend on jb4.3.
this is the end of 2014, whats the best app at this time to mask wifi tethering (I don/t mind paying/donating)

anyone tether their unlimited tmo plans?
I have to turn this phone over in an hour and would really like a suggestion or two :good:

I'm on effortless rom and there's unlimited tethering built into the rom. You can also use an app called FoxFi ($7). I also use a VPN called private internet access to hide my tethering just in case.

OK, I downloaded pda+ (w/foxfi)
rebooted, and turned it on.
it must be connecting through the T-Mobile hotspot cause it is still metering data, (so I went back to playstore for a refund).
no one on the internet can even find tmobile hotspot to freeze it w/titanium backup.
My N3 (which is an unlocked 900a) is unlocked and I tether all day though a separate app, (no tmobile hot spot app on my 900a)
The phone im talking about in this thread is a 900t and I need to freeze/uninstall it, (but no one can find it).
The tmobile hotspot is just a meter to let them know how much data is being used, (I need to get rid of it/freeze it, turn it off some how so I can use a 3rd party app

If it's rooted just install Wifi Tether Router.

You need to create an alternative APN and select it before you enable foxfi. The name and apn is all you need to fill out. Leave everything blank. This is mine below.

T-Mobile's $15 tethering option??

Engadget had an article that states Tmobile will now charge for tethering starting sunday Nov. 14th. I am wondering if us who have been able to root the G2 get charged for using the tethering option? If so i can always use wireless tether but the built in android hotspot is much better in my opinion. If anyone knows the answer that'll be great as i dont want to get charged without knowing.
No. From what I've been able to gather, there's no way for T-Mobile (or anyone else) to tell the difference if you're tethering or just using standard(phone) mobile data.
Well something I just noticed today was a redirect to an upsell page. This is using the G2 with PDAnet, I have had no luck getting the native tethering to work. I will keep trying and see if I run into that same issue. I'll also post a pic of the page that it'll take you to.

here's the lovely site you'll get trying to get you to buy the subscription to tether. I have also noticed that G1 and MT3G1.2 and they're still able to tether just fine.
Well I just tethered without getting that message so I guess us rooters got around their trap!! Niiiice

tmo probably made and agreement to not remove pda net from the market if they made it to where tmo could check if the user is tethtering with pdanet
Actually, I am rooted and I was using PDANet, followed by Wifi Tether and I got the page both times.
this sounds like either they are filtering for user agent(easy to bypass), but then again i could be wrong. i used to use pdanet, and even paid for it(didn't like wifi tether on G1 because battery temp would get too high) and now if i can't use that app i'm going to be very upset. try changing your user agent to "Android" and see if you can tether
they will only notice if you pass the 3gb - 5gb limit, refrain from downloading while using tether.

Uverse App Does Not Work On Verizon GNEX?

I have my GNEX on Verizon. I have been trying to get the AT&T Uverse App to work since I downloaded it. Regardless of whether I am connecting via wi-fi, 4G or 3G, I cannot get it to work. I have uninstalled and reinstalled to see if it was corrupted, but that failed as well.
Attached is a screenshot of the error (Unable to connect to Server). Is anyone else having issues with the Uverse App? Is this being blocked by Verizon?
The app worked on my Blackberry (course the BB was on AT&T).
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Here is another screen shot with full wi-fi.....
....when I have 4G or 3G bars showing, I get the same message as my original post. I am able to do every other task imaginable on either of the three data connections except for the Uverse app.
Well apparently there is a compatibility issue with ICS which is causing the connection error. I am sure AT&T will not be to hard-pressed to update their app until they are ready to offer an ICS device.....oh well....
any workarounds yet for this perhaps?
I'm having the exact same issue. I really hate AT&T.
Same....
I am having the SAME exact problem. Use to work fine on my Droid Charge, then I upgraded now I get the same thing all of you are getting. :-<
They haven't even updated their freaking app since August... They're pathetic.

It's AT&T. Their corporate physiology is just do the bare minimum. They built an app, some people can use it, that's good enough for them. Same goes for their network.
BTW: I am able to get to my DVR via the web browser:
http://uversetv.att.yahoo.com/wra/uverse/
I called att today about this. They put me through to the app maker who in turn blamed att. First they hung up on me after they told me it won't work on every phone and I called them lazy for not wanting to update it for new phones. The second time they blamed att. Idk...

I think it's an ICS issue. It worked fine on my non-at&t Nexus One on 2.3. I think there's a thread on the official u-verse forum about it.

WIFI tether

i cant seem to find anything on this and if im just missing it im sorry for the thread...
Is there wifi tethering available for rooted gnexus cdma/lte?
I know it is built into some of the available ROMs. I use Gummy and I can verify that it has wireless tether and that it works just fine.

Ok, gotcha. Thought those were tracked by Big Red. (and whats the difference between tethering and hotspot?)
Teathering is, technically, any form of using your phone's internet via an outside source (USB, WiFi, Bluetooth.....serial..etc).
Hotspot is, specifically, WiFi, and can have multiple users.
Elixir 2 widgets make a hotspots toggle and it works on unrooted nexui too

Actually similar to the T-Bolt if you are stock then hotspot requires a separate plan which the application will tell you when you try to run it.
If you are rooted than the hotspot runs without any additional plans. I'm on AOKP and the portable hotspot works very well.
Yeah I'm sure verizon knows when another device is shareing their connection because each device leaves a different signature on their networks. However, there is an ongoing debate on whether Verizon's blocking of tethering apps outside of its service is in violation of the terms of the purchase of the "C Spectrum" aka 4G LTE they acquired at the auction years back. Read here: http://www.dailywireless.org/2011/11/04/hotspot-tethering-fees/
Hello,
I'm about to switch to Verizon from the ET4G. Can someone help point me to the closest to stock root that allows me to tether? I'm not sure if it is the same on this phone but for the ET4G there were some close to stock roots that I could put the wifi_tether from http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether on my phone.
Since I'm brand new to ther GN, feel free to recommend a better route.
Thanks in advance, this site was extremely helpful with all my ET4G inane questions.

I didn't see this before here so I guess I'm free to go ahead,
The wifi only thing is a bit of a hindrance to the tablet unless you pay for WiFi hotspot, well here's an alternative, FoxFi
This app, allows you to use your android phone as a FREE WiFi hotspot access point. And you DON'T even have to be rooted!
Play store link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.foxfi&hl=en
If link doesn't work then get the app from here:
Foxfi.com/bin

Not sure why but my Motorola Photon doesn't work with any wifi hotspot apps I've installed. It's rooted so it should work, but it dont. I have to use bluetooth pan, which works perfectly fine. Just check the box under the bluetooth connection's setting for sharing internet connection. Works great.

Sounds like you have the same issues as us here in Japan. I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 and when you turn on a rooted or non-rooted devices WiFi hotspot app, it actually goes in and changes your APN, to one that charges you.
There is also another thread on Docomo Samsung Galaxy SC-02C forum that discusses changing the settings to none instead of internet, but I forgot what that was.
I am not sure if this is what is happening with your phone but thought I'd share this.

T-Mobile blocked my HotSpot capability today.

I'm not on an unlimited plan. It worked just a week ago but today I noticed that when I tried to enable Tethering and Mobile HotSpot it says:
Service upgrade required
Your current rate plan does not support sharing your phone's data connection with other devices using USB tehtering or Mobile HotSpot for internet access. Do you want to add the Smartphone Mobile HotSpot service to your rate plan now?
This is a stock Android 4.1.1. The only thing I did recently was request an unlock code for this phone. Was that what tripped the HotSpot block?
No they're just cracking down on it.

You have a tethering plan? Call them...
This is exactly why i flashed a custom cyanogenmod os because the stock os prevents you from tethering and if you get a custom rom which by default tethers without tmobile knowing, then tmobile will see your user agent on your laptop as a desktop user agent and block you from the laptop side so the laptop will see a captive portal. So the way to get around the captive portal is to just install a useragent plugin on teh chrome or firefox browser on your laptop/pc and set useragent as googlebot then your good to go, happy tethering.
I got all you can eat true 4g which is not at all limited unlike the other 4g plans that are limited, mine is true unlimited, i can use 16gigs or a 100 gigs and it will always be 4g so i'm glad I can tether.
Cracking down...

They'll cut you off pretty soon if you don't stop, or figure out some other way of tethering.
I got the same message, but what makes it different, I was not tethering. I was only watching video on You tube using the stock browser. Now whenever I go to You tube on my browser, I can't watch any video anymore, I have to use the you tube app. I prefer watching over the browser. So I will call them and see whats up with this deal.
