[APP][FREE]ringtext messenger [use phone nr. and missed calls to send messages] - Testing

Hi everyone,
We just published a new version of ringtext messenger, and looking for users who can test and give us feedback. All help greatly appreciated!
Your "missed call" on the receiver's mobile is your free ringtext "message"
Unlike Whatsapp etc, ringtext Messenger does NOT need your 3G/EDGE, Wi-Fi or any other type of (costly) mobile Internet connection to send and receive messages. With the ringtext-offline feature, chat fast en simple with your friends, even offline. And it’s unlimited. So say as much as you want all over the World.
Data packs don't last forever neither does the pocket-money. Yes, we've all faced the times when our smart phones lose all their charm without the data packs. But not ringtext. If offline, ringtext Messenger uses your "Caller ID" and "missed calls" to send and receive messages to your friends world wide and free of all charges!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missed_call
Chat with your friends all over the world as long as they have ringtext Messenger installed and avoid those pesky international data costs. Must have for users in regions without mobile data, backpackers out of data coverage, as well as international business travellers seeking to avoid roaming costs.
All your ringtext messages (missed calls) are routed over Amsterdam (The Netherlands). Just let the phone ring, and watch the blue screen. Answered calls will be charged by your normal rate, so don't try to answer these ringtext calls, it should be free for you and your friends!

FEATURES
- small App size
- languages English, Italian (credits Gianluca Alfarano), Dutch, Russian (credits pavik62)
- 100% free no charge (direct or hidden), no pop-up ads.
- benefits are huge for kids without mobile data, backpackers out of data coverage, as well as international business travellers seeking to avoid roaming costs.
IMPORTANT
Your Caller ID (CLI) must be ON
ringtext messenger will NOT work on Tablets without Calling Facility.
ringtext will work on DUAL SIM devices.
If you have problems using ringtext (for example "CLI error"), please check with your operator the reason for changing your CLI when dialing IDD (International) numbers
In order to chat or send/recieve ringtext messages with contacts, everyone must have the ringtext application installed and activated on their phones.
Your friend's phone number must be in your Android phone's address book in order for you to start a chat. ringtext messenger reads your contacts' phone numbers from your phone's address book and automatically adds ringtext users to "Contacts on ringtext". If you cannot see your friend in ringtext messenger, please ensure that your friend has ringtext messenger installed on their phone.
There is a button "Tell a friend" to invite friends. The invite/accept process could take 2 mins before contacts become black (synchronized) after being greyed out. In "settings you are free to speed up synchronization.
Just "tab" on the contact to start instant chat, or "tab and hold" to choose from predefined ringtext messages, and send them with a Missed Call. All functions are also available from settings
HOW RINGTEXT WORKS
John starts to Call Rohan and quickly disconnects the call just after hearing the first ring tone to avoid (setup or call) costs. Rohan will notice this as a "missed call" from John, but understands his "free message". This is commonly used by millions of people as a way of communicating pre-agreed messages for free, because a missed call (unanswered call) is totally free of charges. In ringtext we use this missed call technique and made it look as visible messages. You get 100 customisable messages specific for offline use and exchange these messages all over the world with a 100% free missed call. When ringtext users reply, receivers get the message in the same conversation screen.
HOW IT COULD BE FREE?
We think that If Your App Isn't Free, Another One Will Be. We developed ringtext messenger for testing our missed call exchange technique in other industries. The missed Call technology is old, but not old fashioned. We still learn everyday from users. There are also lots of applications (yes we have more Apps pending) and our test-users liked it very much and asked us to make ringtext publicly available for daily use. We accepted the challenge, made a cool blue interface, and here it is. There is no charge, direct or hidden, to download or use ringtext Messenger. The App does not install any spy-ware or ad-ware along with it. It does not populate user's screen with pop-up ads. We know the App’s benefits are huge for many audiences, including kids without mobile data, backpackers (out of data coverage), as well as international business travellers seeking to avoid roaming costs.
ABUSE
No one wants to find a sky-high mobile phone bill waiting, because you answered the ringtext Missed Calls from your contacts. If we suspect that account activity constitutes an abuse of our system, the account will be temporarily banned from using ringtext. This user will receive a warning message in the app. We will also inform all his/here contacts. During the temporary ban the user will not be able to access any part of his/here ringtext account. You would be able to use your account again after you have contacted [email protected].

NOTE
All worldwide operators and service providers are involved in handling the (missed) calls and in particular the originating operators and service providers only allow the correct contents of parameters to be transferred in the telephone networks. If you have problems using ringtext (for example you got "CLI error"), please check with your operator the reason for changing your CLI when dialing IDD (International) numbers? Or just turn on your CLI (Caller id)
.
Looking for your comments, questions, tips and contribution for translations in your language. Let's make ringtext messenger available to everyone in the world! :good:

IMPORTANT: if you got CLI ERROR at registration:
ringtext uses your phone number to make messaging with friends and contacts easy. The phone number verification process is designed to be as simple as possible, but if you are having trouble verifying your number, please inform us at [email protected]
To make youre registration successful, it is required that ringtext makes a missed call to our servers located in Amsterdam. This is only to capture your CLI on our servers, the ringtext app will disconnect automatically and we will not answer your call. So registration (number verification process) is 100% free.
We are receiving from users all over the world (most from India) they cannot register because of corrupted CLI.
This is why: If we recieve on our server the number 196585 instead of the full number +919418159976.
It is required that we receive your CLI correctly for the app to work! Of course there is already a user registered for the CLI "196585" (the corrupt one), so the system thinks you are that user and ask you to enter the password. Sorry Its your (India) provider who does not plays the rules correctly with handling CLI format.
You can test your CLI with this site http://www.calleridtest.com/ (NOTE It's NOT FREE if you call from outside the USA). But it works great. I called from The Netherlands and it cost me arround € 0,20
We noticed In some countries you have to add after the 00 or + an extra carrier
To add the carrier in a number not yet build in ringtext.
For example ringtext dials for registration 00 31 20 XXXXXXX in Chile it should dial 00 123 31 20 xxxxxxx
(where 123 is the carrier). check here for more info http://www.howtocallabroad.com/

Awesome. Will try this out

THis is great but yet still I dont understand the logic behind though you made explanations with example. I gotta try it first and will come up with a feedback.

Using Samsung Galaxy S3 with the latest CM. Seems to get stuck at the "please wait" part.
Great idea though, will try again when my OPO arrives.

Free sms message without any connection to everyone in the world ?

I would be hesitant to use an application that can't be explained properly.
How does ringtext work?
Instead ringtext does a "Missed Call" to a regular (mobile) phone, to deliver your message.
We all know missed calls are free - how is the message part delivered, through sms? That's not free.
Example using ringtext
In ringtext we use this missed call technique and made it look as visible messages. You get 100 customisable messages specific for offline use and exchange these messages all over the world with a 100% free missed call. When ringtext users reply, receivers get the message in the same conversation screen.
When ringtext users reply - which user? The caller or the person being called? What conversation screen - sms? That's not free. Exchange these messages all over the world - is it immediate? The phone call ITSELF will deliver a message, really? Or are these 100 custom messages only sent once there is data/wifi connection?
How does this get featured on the portal when no one here has said that it works or how it works?

Ok guys haven't tried this yet but I think it sets a specific ring tone to a message and then on the other side when that specific ring tone is played the message is delivered. May sound foolish but can't think of anything else

I can't get myself registered, while doing it I get the message that my phone is already registered and some unknown email is displayed to fill in the password. Stuck there?
Any suggestions, can't reset as email is not mine.

I will try to explain it this way
Hi, thanks for input.
I will try to explain it this way, it has nothing to do with ring tones, its just using CLI to exchange messages (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caller_ID). If you would turn it off on your phone ringtext will not work.
Hope following text will explain it:
ringtext uses a method of communicating messages between mobiles over a telephony network, in which ringtext automatically maps a message (selected by the user) to an outgoing phone number. This phone number is on our ringtext server, that receives call, and does a call forward to the second mobile (the receiver) and causes the second mobile to receive a missed call from the determined incoming phone number, the second mobile receives the missed call with a CLI from our server, and ringtext will recognize and maps the CLI (incoming phone number) to the message and presents the message to the receiver, where the call to the outgoing telephone number and/or the call from the incoming telephone number is a missed call..
and a missed call is Worldwide totally free of charges.
p.s. the SMS is just an extra option for the user to choose from..

Very cool :victory:

Does it work with other caller identification apps like TrueCaller? After registration I got a missed call from your number which failed to register in your app. TrueCaller identified the number as from Amsterdam.

[AppDev] HowdyKeith's Mortscript Apps for Pushing Progress

Here I am going to reposit the multiple dev topics i am working on and a dev blog and where we r pushing.
Some of these topics will have been discussed before and apps released.
I am going to take 'em and tie em together for bigger goal.
Some of these Mortscript apps were written a long time ago and can benefit from a more robust version of Mortscript.
Also I will post as many script tools here as I can. Some tools are scripts I have written but don't deem their own thread. Other things are the real applications I find indispensable.
Links to real apps...

Wav player - Mort seems not to want to play different types of wav files. This app will let u test them through mort. I will list the types that Mort doesnt play and the types of wav it does play.
bluetooth functionality.
Currently there is no working Bluetooth toggler for phones with the Widcomm bluetooth stack. I made a working toggler with the help of Pocketmax PhoneAlarm. I am pretty sure i can make a stand alone bluetooth toggler now.
With Phone alarm i can have the bluetooth go on and off when I plug my phone in. As long as I can use Phone alarm I have that issue licked. I could Mort that, but Phone alarm is so great that if I can use it, i do. All these apps I work with I am stuck with the trial versions, but since I end up resetting my phone every other week that never is too much of a problem.
The remaining issue is with turning on Microsoft Voice command with my car settings. We're going to take a look at that here. For auto profile switching i can detect if the car is connected AND my computers bt dongle is connected, i am at home: (disable the car bt so i dont miss calls) Also if first connect of computer after being connected to car, auto run ActiveSync and sync up.
Also I can have Voice command msg me with spoken msgs using the SMS sender I wrote. What could work better is to make appts and have voice command read those. I expect to bump into some walls.
After a number that is unknown but the number is available can popup a while pages with the number.
sill want a whois posted to the dialer screen status. will the internet kill the call? no, right?
So my phone cant run http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298279&page=6 but i can make it work with mortscript. also phonelog should do this on my phone can do this, but it is always 5 hours off when it stores it. i have complained about this bug for the last 2 years or so, but since i am the only one with this problem, updates have never fixed this for me. obviously i should just write my own.

internot
A good hard look at the connected to internet detector. Why does iexplore connect to the internet and morts sometimes don't?
One more for the pie.
Issues and walls that are suck.
I dont have GPS, or even rkLocation. WTH. But I do have internet. Which means maybe I could use a web page What;s my ip to get a location. I couldnt use that to drive a map program of course but just maybe I could tell that I was not at home and set my bluetooth and stuff to on.
Some apps use a static location. If i can get a zip it might be possible to inject it for the app to use.
Also, we can't detect how much memory a program takes up, for example in a task manager. but we do know how much memory was available before we opened the app and then how much free after.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=502214
A number of lost phone apps can do certain remote tricks. I don't want to reinvent any wheels, but none of these apps work on my Windows Mobile 5 Smartphone. To tell the truth I already have gotten most of the lost phone functionalities working with StatusTicker. But we can go a bit further than just send back SMS with GPS or even rkLocation (I can do that, sure). Here are some additions I will be workin on shortly:
Remote activation of cameras to take some pictures and remote live video.
http://www.mobiletopsoft.com/pocket-pc/download-mobiscope-video-from-webcams-2-6-15.html
Remote trigger an online backup.
File Forte (Auto FTP backup)
Shozu
Apps that capture documents and upload em to online could also capture the call logs and sms logs.
Evernote
Dashwire (I better hurry while it's free)
Qiik? sends video
Send Back data:
Send me all my SMS Received/Sent
Send me my call history
What's my phone's Ip?
Remote purge
Remote lock
Turn on the bluetooth and annoy the neighbors. It could be possible to turn on the bt and then use it like a range finder with a different phone. Of course we can just unmute it remotely if its muted and trigger an alarm sound.
Downloading on a smartphone
I'm Batman
Here we will look at keycap ing and how close we can approximate it.
Using Iexplore as a config editor.
I am pretty sure I can use html pages to modify config ini's.
By having the page pass itself the arguments on the url, they show up in the page title and thereby can be reintegrated with Mort.
I already set up the html a few years ago on a e-commerce site I worked on. I found my old javascript codes which pass and interpret the ? and & variables you see in the url address bar. This means I can can use check boxes, input boxes, etc...
I am thinking this is going to be very cool.
Poor mans motion detector
So can we make a motion detector?
take picture
take another
compare size.
if size <> image has changed.
What about taking a picture/screenshot and if its black then we can check its size and see that it is dark?
If there is no native camera click option, and we can't access the camera sometimes, we may be able to leave the camera view open and then take screenshots with a screenshot app and then use those picks...
***
Mort doesnt give size of an app in memory.
so we would have to subtract the new free space from the old memory. yikes?
AppToDate - Mortscript support and integration
integrate Apptodate version checking and updating without using apptodate:
AppToDate Subroutine for Mortscript
Hi,
So I have AppToDate support in my Voice command app. So if you have AppToDate it will report whether you need an update and can download and install from there.
I have made a subroutine for your AppToDate supported mortscript app so it can check for an update.
We could have it download the updated cab. I can't use the download command since I have a smartphone. I guess I could make the PPC version and then have my app run AppToDate on my Smartphone.
And to think I hesitated.
Attached Files
File Type: zip AppToDateSub.zip (1.9 KB, 0 views)
Infra red receiver/transmitter
i wonder if i can make a Infra red receiver/transmitter with mortscript?
Well we cant do infra red output. but we could activate the infra red receiver and then use a remote control on it?
Phone Utils
Can we identify the caller and if known, open the contact with that callers name. Yes, I think we can.
Bluetooth
Solution : all system sound in headset
I found a solution for route all system sounds in a non-stereo Bluetooth headset, the microphone still works for calls but at the end of a call the sound is back in the speaker and must restart to make it work again.
Does anyone know what is the problem?
To do this we must change a registry value: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Widcomm\Connections
Choose your device hands free in the right folder 0001 0002 0003 ....
And change the value of BDDevClass 24 04 04 to 12 01 04

Send Twitter updates by text message
If you add your phone to Twitter, you can update anywhere, anytime by simply sending us a text message! Once your phone is verified, you can start sending (and receiving!) updates instantly. Depending on where you are, you may have a local number. You can send a text message to any of these numbers and it will post directly to your Twitter profile, and be sent to all of your followers:
We currently support 2-way (sending and receiving) Twitter SMS via short codes and 1-way (sending only) via long codes.
Short codes for 2-way Twitter SMS:
US: 40404
Australia: 0198089488 (Telstra customers)
Canada: 21212
UK: 86444 (Vodafone, Orange, 3 and O2 customers)
India: 53000 (Bharti Airtel customers)
Indonesia: 89887 (AXIS and 3 customers)
Ireland: 51210 (O2 customers)
New Zealand: 8987 (Vodafone and Telecom NZ customers)
1-way long codes:
Germany: +49 17 6888 50505
Sweden: +46 737 494222
All other countries: +44 762 4801423
We're working on getting more local short codes for other places, and we'll update this list as they become available. If you travel out of the country, check with your mobile provider to see if they route text messages to local short codes, of if you'll need to use the international number instead.
If you use 40404, you can send and receive unlimited messages from Twitter, but we do advise you to check with your provider to make sure your text plan covers text messaging. If you use one of our other numbers, you're limited to 250 messages per week, refreshing every Sunday at 12:00am GMT.
For people using any number other than 40404: once your phone is verified, you'll be able to send your updates to +44 7624 801423 , but you will not be able to receive text updates from Twitter. Find out more on the Twitter Blog.
A word of caution for UK residents using the international number: some carriers don't charge an international fee to use the Twitter international number within the UK, but others do. Some carriers consider it an international number and charge from .15 to .25 per message. Remember to check your phone plan for international rates; be aware that even in the UK, standard messaging rates vary by carrier, and do apply.

Contacts - option to send SMS to landlines

In older versions of Android when a contact had multiple telephone numbers you could only send an SMS to their mobile number.
In 2.1 ALL numbers (including landlines) have the option to be used for sending an SMS. This makes the list really long if you have several numbers (home, work, mobile etc) because you can call or SMS each of them.
Also, when you compose an SMS and type in the "To" box, all the numbers show up there as well.
Both of these make it more difficult to pick the right number, as I found out earlier when I accidentally sent an SMS to a landline.
Are others seeing this, and if so, has anyone got a way to stop it abd revert to only show "Send message" to the mobile number?
zippyioa
Use Handcent SMS. There you can toggle the "Show mobile numbers only".
Already for several years sending and receiving SMS on a landline can be done. This may depend on your provider, the country you are in, and of course the phone itself. Some providers even offer an automatic text-to-voice service for this. All this may help explain why the distinction is fading, or even absent in this case.
If anything it should be an option to configure 'SMS allowed' for each number, and perhaps not for all landlines together. Google Android team, are you reading this?

Thanks, I will take a look at it. That would solve the issue when composing an SMS. The long list of options in People will still be there though, which makes it harder to find the right number when calling.
It's not a huge issue, it's just different to what I was used to. I am sure I'll get used to it!

I know you can send an SMS to landlines, we used to have the voice of Tom Baker (Little Britain narrator) for a while which was really funny, especially the words "balls". It's not something I ever use now though.
I agree, its something the Google team should look at!
How do others feel about it.... would you hide the option to SMS to landlines if you could?

[App Idea]SMS Scriptor - You can now script to your phone via sms!

SMS Scriptor
Ok this is just a basic app and the point of it is for you to be able to script to your phone and send it cooler messages. The point of it is that more people will use it and soon, you can send out 'friend' invitations for which you can send out an invitation for you friend to not use passwords in their scripts (and that way, they can communicate to you by other means than just through boring sms). So...there are a variety of things which I have an idea in this app for:
-Automatically decode "sms-like" messages
ex: "LOL" will automatically convert into Laugh out Loud
-Send out cool birthday wishes through sms-script
ex: HS:Message.birthday.send = "HAPPY BIRTHDAY"
would automatically send out a premade birthday message with your text in it to their phone...other templates will also be embedded in their phone so it will be ready when someone sends them messages
-Start programs automatically so if they are confused on how to use their phone or if they don't know where a file is but you do, just script it
ex: HSrogram.execute = "\Windows\myprogram.exe"
-Can send out "audible" sms's so if they are driving, they can listen to a message from in the car without picking up their phone. The program will automatically announce it or it can let the friend send out an mms.
-Can send out an active link to a phone number so the phone will automatically call the other person when the message arrives
ex: HShone.Call = "13396547893"
and that will automatically dial that number in the recipient's phone.
-Can send out destructable sms's which kill themselves after a specified time
ex: HS:SMS.timed.send(120) = "Hey dude this will remove itself in 2 mins"
-One must have a password in their sms script and unless they are a friend, the other party needs to confirm an acceptance from a person or they can deny it if it is some random dude.
-Will soon work on Blackberry, Iphone, And Android
The next generation of sms talk will be soming soon
Im gonna need a few comments on these existing features or at least tell me i should add something to it and then I will post up a first release.

[Q] Looking for App: Call Block/filter ans SMS auto answer

Hello,
When I used Windows Mobile I had and app that could filter and block call. I could add some phones to my blacklist (so if I received an call from this number it would block it) whitelist and I could also send some pre-wrote SMS when receiving a call.
So if I were on a meeting and someone called me, I could send him a SMS saying "This is an auto response: I'm in a meeting right now and I'll call you back when it finishes." I could do this direclty in the answering screen. I could "Answer" the call, "reject" and "ignore and send SMS"
Does anyone knows if we have a similar app for Android? Couldn't find it in the Android market.
Thanks
I'm not sure about the auto-SMS feature, but the Galaxy S has a built-in feature to block calls from certain numbers.
I m looking for the same. I did found the app AutoResponder whitch sends a predefinded SMS to all incoming calls when the app is activated. Its not exactly what im looking for because im not able to choose on incoming call screen whether i want to send the SMS or not.

Yeah. With this Windows app that I had on my HTC Kaiser (one year ago... after that I used a Blackberry for sometime). I could choose which call I would answer with SMS. I could see who was calling and decide to answer, ignore or send the SMS.
Get Easy filter 1.2 from market or install the other hundreds using "filter" as keyword

Sending SMS to reject call is available on our SGS out of the box. When a call comes through, there is this little arrow at the bottom of the screen. Pull that up and you can see the list of auto-reject SMS messages. Click on 1 and your phone will reject the call and send out the SMS.
You can configure the list of messages under Settings->Call Settings->All Calls->Reject Call with Message
Hi,
for me "call & sms filter" from easyfilter works very well.
I can recommend it. And its for free.
Positive: has not only negative list but also positive list (block all except....).
Try "QSMS To Buddy:FullFeatured" free app from android market
Use "QSMS to buddy" App from android market.
- This app allows you to send sms to missed/rejected calls.
- It also allows you to send a 'default' sms after user specified time period. e.g. you can specify to send a msg after 10 secs
- *** You send sms during "Outgoing" call reject as well
- *** You have ability to messages while sending the reject sms depending on the context. e.g. "I will call back in 10 mins" instead of "I will call back later"
There are other interesting features as well in this app. Watch demo at youtube with key word "QSMS : Quick SMS To Buddy
