Maybe have to press Sony for more information on that, after the Android 4.3 end of life statement.
The above statement made by Sony over two weeks ago, may come to nothing after recent developments.
A fix from Sony would be rewarding, but if Sony are no longer able to provide one, it is reported that CM11 does correct this problem.
Update:
New firmware certified for Xperia M and Xperia M (Dual SIM) (11-SEP-2014)
Certified update 15.4.A.1.10 for Xperia M (C1904/C1905)
Certified update 15.5.A.1.6 for Xperia M (C2004/C2005)
Xperia M, you're back, I thought you were dead.!!!
Opps, Sorry @Sh0m1 I didn't read your link and thought you were pointing to the BLE post that mentioned an upcoming update. ..My bad.

What a great job sony.. :silly:

you know, sony might be smarter than we give them credit. It's impossible to keep updating every device because cost constraints, so the leave custom rom devs the freedom to carry on by providing unlockable bootloaders

Atleast Sony makes decent low-range devices. Just look at samsung and their c*appy phones. 5 versions of the same phone and almost no updates at all.

[Q] [q] Xperia SL Worthwhile purchase in August '13?

Hi Team,
I've broken my HTC One X and am considering purchasing a Sony Xperia SL. I understand that it is no longer a top of the line device, however all of the new phones that are are 4.7"+ which is too large IMO. It seems that the S has a fairly active dev team, though I'm not so keen on flashing new roms so often these days (have been using the same rom on my HTC One X for about a year). Having said all that; are there daily driver ROMs available for the SL that I can stick with for an extended period &/or how does the update roadmap for the device look; is JB likely the final update etc.
Thanks in advance,
Try Xperia sp or zr

Thanks, I'd probably consider the zr over the sp but both of these handsets are still probably a bit too big, and they don't really have the 'premium' look.
Xperia v and HTC one mini are 4.3 inch so same size as Xperia s
Sent from my heart
I would recommend Xperia V but not SP (the 0.2 Ghz difference doesn't make so much difference, u can overclock if u plan to unlock bl and modify the phone with flashtool. The camera on XV is much better too)
Xperia V is even cheaper than Xperia S/SL in Hong Kong now (where i live)
The only thing that make V weaker is the 0.3mp front camera, while XS/SL got 1.3mp (SP seems got 0.3mp too, not sure)
Even XSL got 1.7Ghz cpu, the XV will be still much faster becoz the CPU on XV is snapdragon s4 but the CPU on XS is snapdragon s3
(s3 actually isn't that bad, it is just supposed to be a bit slower. but s3 actually overheat so much which will make it very laggy, s4 is much cooler)
but if u got money, XZ/XZR ofcoz
Xperia SL - a good choice
IMO xperia SL is a good choice considering the specs it has got that still many latest phones lack behind easily...
12mp camera, very nice screen and screen quality, hdmi port, 32gb inbuilt memory to list a few...
plus speaking of the developer support it has got a great developer support...
already got JB 4.3
Please give me a link for xperia sl jb 4.3 rom download

Why didn't the single-SIM get updated to 4.2.2

I've been reading this forum lately and I noticed that C2004/5 users got updated to 4.2.2 but I am still at 4.1.2. I suppose it is compatible with my C1905 and if so why didn't Sony push the update? Also is it worth flashing it or should I wait for CM portç

While KitKat will be released in a month or two?
From what I've read yes the M will get kitkat but wont be till mid/late 2014
Sent from my C2005 using xda premium
Kitkat is miles away as far as our phone is concerned and there's been no official announcement as of yet.. The one you are referring to in Q1 in 2014 is an android 4.3 update for Xperia M.. I doubt if Sony will release an official 4.2.2 for single sim.. There were talks afloat that it'll directly upgrade to 4.3
Sent from my C2005 using xda app-developers app
If you have a Nexus, sure, you get any new Android versions the day it is released itself. But on the other hand, if you have devices from Samsung or other Original Equipment Manufacturers, then they will first have to skin that particular Android version before they release it for your device.
Skinning is often a tedious job, and making things creative in the new Android version will take some time. This is why we are getting 4.3 Jelly Bean in the first quarter of the coming year for M.
Since KitKat has done away with fragmentation, it has the potential to even run on older devices (devices released after mid to late 2012). The Xperia M is sure to get a KitKat update, but that will be a long time in coming. It's pretty obvious that we will get CyanogenMod or its derivatives or AOSP and its derivatives long before the official one.
Ok thanks guys. Wish I could give you a thanks but the app won't let me

[Q] Would you like CyanogenMod on Xperia M?

While visiting family over Christmas I had a lot of time to relax and be merry. But being away from my usual assortment of computers and gadgets that keep me occupied, I also had a lot of time with not much to do.
I also noticed that Xperia M forums are really quiet, so after our 'traditional' fried fish and potato salad I used nothing but my Nexus tablet to create a very basic CyanogenMod repo.
I quickly learnt that doing dev work on a tablet is really hard. I was just about able to create a few basic files and copy over content I know will be the same on my other Xperia device.
However if I'm to continue, I need to know how many of you want this. Xperia M has all the right hardware to run Android 4.4 KitKat, but if nobody uses this phone, then why bother?
P.S. Don't forget the poll above!!
This would be good for devs to start and produce custom Roms as there is very little development, yes there are kernels available but need a good base and cyanogen mod would be fantastic and I'm pretty sure all users of the M would really appreciate it I know I would and 4.4 would be fantastic

Sony will have a big presentation at CES, which is less than a week away. We'll soon see if there is anything on the horizon.
If the Xperia E2 does turn out to be MediaTek, and no other Qualcomm based devices get announced, then I'll likely stick with Xperia M, probably the dual SIM version. I prefer how it looks compared to Xperia L, which is the same price as M here.

I would love to see CyanogenMod on Xperia M as I previously owned the Arc S and was running it from CM10 through to the recent CM11 that was being released for the device.
Im also interested in helping develop the rom for the device as I own 2 Xperia M's one for everyday while the other is for development purposes so im not worried if it gets bricked and would like to join anyone else willing to bring CyanogenMod to our devices and get more people interested in the power of this phone

Mobile World Congress is at the end of next month. I believe the Xperia E was released in March 2013, so we should see the Xperia E1 by March 2014 this year.
After that it all comes down to specs and price. My assumption is that Xperia E will not have better specs than Xperia M, but I think they will be very close.
I predict the Xperia E1 will have the following specs:
Snapdragon 200 chipset, with Adreno 302 GPU - dual core msm8x10 or quad core msm8x12
512mb RAM (probable) or 1024mb RAM (hopeful)
Android 4.3, with an upgrade to Android 4.4
Resolution of 480x320 (probable) or 854x480 (hopeful)
The most important spec will be the processor, I want something compatible with Android 4.4. The above chips are brand new, they have support for Android 4.3 and above, I didn't see any Android 4.2 support on CodeAurora Forums.
If it comes with anything MediaTek, I will not buy due to lack of available source code. If it comes with the older Snapdragon S4 based on msm8x25 or msm8x25Q, I will not buy as it will only ever have Android 4.1, support for its Adreno 203 GPU was dropped from Android 4.2 due to missing hardware functionality.
The other specs I'm not too worried about, but obviously the higher the specs the better.
After all that it then comes down to the price difference between the Xperia E1 dual and the Xperia M dual. I assume the Xperia E1 will be cheaper, but if I happen to find a really good deal on a discounted Xperia M, I might be tempted by it, though I would prefer to work on the new msm8x1x chips...

Answered my own question.
I personally don't like these small updates. Why Sony keeps releasing a lot of small updates to an outdated version of Android instead of focusing giving us KitKat, which our phone is more than capable of running?
Take a look at Xperia L, for example, that phone is identical to ours (the only difference being internal memory and main camera) and was released with Android 4.1. They got a major update to Android 4.2.2 and now all they get are a lot of small updates and nothing more. I mean, Xperia L is veeeery similar to Xperia M, so why they didn't get an official 4.3 or 4.4 update too?
If this history of updates repeats with Xperia M, we'll be stuck in Android 4.3 forever. Sony will keep releasing small updates to us instead of bringing new versions of Android and when our phone support ends we will depend only of custom ROMs, not to mention Xperia M dual users (like me) that need to choose between having second SIM functionality or using a custom ROM to get KitKat

I agree with you bro..., Sony is just irritating the user with these small updates and even those updates aren't checked properly before they are released., those updates are released to fix a bug, they do fix it but the problem is that they are creating a new bug..
And bro I read somewhere that xperia m both single and dual won't receive Kitkat, and it seems that we ll be stuck with 4.3 forever unless we use unofficial roms.. I think that this ll be the case for all the Sony midrange phones....
I am a great fan of Sony, but now I am starting to hate it...

The xda portal has quotes Xperia S by mistake. There is no developer preview of M by Sony for Xperia S, it is just that the page has link to older binaries(Jelly Bean I think) which caused the confusion.

We might get the android M, developer mickybart is looking through it. Although expecting anything now is very early, as these are just developer builds.
I read on the news on xda that xperia s is one of the listed devices
Will that mean it maybe has a chance to get an official updat?
