[Q] WiFi issues on Vanir ROM - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Long time lurker, first time posting.
New to ROMs but learnt a lot in the last few weeks.
Tried several ROMs and now wanting to settle with Vanir 2.9.
Flashed it and followed instructions but the wifi isn't working (not turning on).
I first flashed the recommended LX kernel from 3andala's direct link then tried the Optkernel before installing the latest ROM with no luck. I did notice that when the ROM was installing it seems to "install boot.img", something I hadn't noticed before with other ROMs.Is it overwriting the previously flashed boot.img (from LX and Opt??)
Should I be opening the zip and replacing the boot.img with another one (Opt or LX)?
I would have loved to ask in the specific thread but as a noob, forum rules state I cannot ask in the DEV thread until I have 10 posts. I a, allergic to spamming otherwise....
TIA for any help.

[Q] CM7 nightly doubts.

Few n00b questions.
Firstly, how do i flash a nightly on my phone? lets say im running ofw 2.2 SEA edition? Do i follow the same procedure as if to flash RC1... do i also need to flash gapps similarly.
Secondly, are the links on quarxs' CM7 for defy thread up-to-date? or are there newer versions of gapps and nightlies floating around somewhere
Third, i have noticed that there is an issue with network and wi-fi when i flash cm7 RC1 over the nordic sbf. when i go back to official 2.2 SEA there is no hassle at all. Since i live in india i was wondering if that was the issue. I can easily take care of the network problem using "baseband switcher for defy" but it still doesnt help the wi-fi problem.
My question is.. will using the new BOOTSEA nightly solve this problem. I am assuming from the name is boot"SEA" im assuming its built southeastasia specific.
Fourth, ive used CM7 RC1 for a while and apart from the wifi issue i got problems with camera and video... it absolutely doesnt work, wether it be in potrait or landscape or whatever setting... the app just force closes. Any fixes for that.. ive got green lens.
please help!!! and i hope other similar questions can be added by members here so as to make this thread an FAQ for distressed users like me.
Thanks

--> I'd say install RC1 and gapps first, then try a nightly by just wiping cache and Dalvik - no need to install gapps again since they're on your phone now. If you install a BOOT version and want to go back to an earlier CM7 nightly, then you might want to start from scratch, reflash froyo and install RC1 + gapps again.
Secondly, are the links on quarxs' CM7 for defy thread up-to-date? or are there newer versions of gapps and nightlies floating around somewhere
--> mostly up to date, but I don't worry about gapps too much as I believe that the Market gets updated automatically anyway (but I might be wrong about that). On the OP, the link to the gapps should show you up to date versions; but read the comments on there - very important.
Third, i have noticed that there is an issue with network and wi-fi when i flash cm7 RC1 over the nordic sbf. when i go back to official 2.2 SEA there is no hassle at all. ---> same here my wifi DL speed was really bad for the last month or so on CM7; only after BOOT179-4 install, my wifi speed somewhat got back to normal.
Fourth, ive used CM7 RC1 for a while and apart from the wifi issue i got problems with camera and video... it absolutely doesnt work, wether it be in potrait or landscape or whatever setting... the app just force closes. Any fixes for that.. ive got green lens.
---> My camera and video worked on RC1 (and earlier) but video recording had some chopiness at times. Around July 11th nightly, Quarx released a camera fix (in that nightly) that solved the problem for me. But then days later, on newer nightly builds, I got the FC problem on video camera (same as you but red lens here). Then with BOOT179-4, camera was fine again and so the wifi speed; so all good for me.
--------> I really don't know what's going on with the video camera: many poeple have problems and many have it working on every nightly builds. It has been a problem from day one for Quarx on CM7-jordan... You have to try and see which build works for you I guess. And like you said, BOOT-SEA definitely looks like something you should try - many people liked it and many people say yesterday nightly is the best for them so far... so go on and have fun with testing
---> Before you do more testing though, you can always do a backup from the custom recovery so it will be easy for you to restore your current phone state -if nothing improves. I do this all the time: stock recovery factory reset, nordic flashing, RC1 install then restore my (BOOT179-4 now) backup.
Please help!!! and i hope other similar questions can be added by members here so as to make this thread an FAQ for distressed users like me.
---> I did try to help - I hope I did! If so, you can use that "Thanks" button - hehe!
---> Not sure that a thread entitled "nightly doubts" will become a very popular
FAQ thread though

i went thru the whole FAQ but my doubts are regarding the nightlies which it doesnt address hence the thread.
thx for the concern though.
downloaded the BOOTSEA, but there is another file "cm7-110726-0018-BOOTSEA-Jordan.zip.md5sum" mentioned below it. ( there are similar md5sum files for all nightlies...) are they essential ? and how do i use them.
wanted to clarify before proceeding.

Md5 files are to verify your download is not corrupted one. Which you can compare the md5 after downloading the zip file and regenerating the md5 of downloaded file and check against the one in the server.

No problem.
Go read here on the official CM7-jordan thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033654&page=943
And from post 9429 particularily; pretty much goes in the same direction I was pointing at regarding the wifi and video camera...
How's the BOOTSEA doing for you?
The nightly ones is just the output that the ones who are working on the rom ups to us. Normally have all that part on topic that say "next version:..."
If you wanna try the nightly one, use as the *.zip that you download when got the "rc1 v2" for exemple. So wipe the phone, choose install from a zip of the sdcard and choose the *.zip, been it the rc1 or the nightly build.
The md5sum file is the one that contains the 5sum from the file. Its nornaly given when you have to download a big file and have fear to corrupt the file. If you use linux, go on terminal and type "5sum file" when file is the name of any file that you have. It will give you a big number. This is the 5sum. The *.md5sum have the 5sum of the respective *.zip nightly rom.

yup..its 2.3.5

[Q] ARHD 9

1. I think it's really stupid forcing captcha before every post,
2. Stopping legitimate questions about a specific ROM from being posted directly on the specific ROMs thread until you have 10 post is also stupid,
3. I know it's pointless asking this question here SINCE THE DEV WILL NEVER SEE IT!!!!!!!, but have you ever considered incremental updates? The download site is slow and it seem pointless downloading the full ROM when only minor changes have been made.

I fully agree with Ypur first and second point.
Yeah, any idiot can get past a captcha.
There should be a test:
"you've flashed a ROM, but not the boot.img, should you:"
a) ask in the ROM thread why phone is broken
b) ask in Q&A section why phone bootloops
c) ask if flashing boot.img is required
d) tell everybody it's easier with Samsung
e) flash boot.img
I've been caught out by the 10 post restriction on the Developer threads, but usually found the answer after a quick search or just waiting a day or so to see if the same query gets raised.
As for incrementals, good idea for those that are coming from that base ROM, but not much for those that are flashing it for the first time.
Unless you want a new base ROM, and the incrementals? In which case poor Mr Dev does enough work already!
ARHD on my One X is working fine so far. I have the odd issue with not seeming to be able to connect over mobile data, but it is WAAAY less often than when it was stock. Pretty poor from HTC to release their flagship with so many radio based problems.
Meh. Mondays
Phew, glad I'm not alone with my frustration about captcha and post limits. Thought I might have seemed agro.
Incremental only on same base. Ie; 9.0.0 to 9.1.0. Seems silly downloading the whole 500mb for minor changes.

I´ve got the "Point-2-Problem" too
Well, after reading nearly 300 sites in the ARHD Thread, i sometimes saw the same Questions by many Users with XXX Posts.
This let me doubt the 10-Post-Regulation, but i can also understand that the developers are herried about noob Spam...
Anyway... i think every noob can get a custom rom on a HOX by reading the Thread, just some Time is needed.
But it would be really nice when a newbie could also ask or share some experience, even on a brand new ROM like ARHD 9.1.0.
It is just to keep the thread clean is what I feel. Don't forget that everyone isn't a techie and might just post a dumb question upon registering.
BTW, I have never had to post a question since same is posted atleast once. If not, combining a couple of posts definitely answers my question
Trust me, I am on 9.0.0 and it's worth waiting.

[Q] [CM10] [HTC Desire] Flashing has no effect

Hello Everybody ..
I have flashed a new CM10 based ROM from below thread (Elk) successfully a while back. Then I decided yesterday that I want the latest CM10 based ROM from X-Treme thread below as well, so I flashed with no Data wiping (only the caches, which are done automatically from the update script). Well, everything went fine .. BUT NO EFFECT
I don't understand what happened, but it's like flashing does Nothing to the build.
ELK thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1827934
X-Treme thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1795200
if you'd ask .. how do you know that it didn't take effect .. here is how
1. there was no long pause for the dalvik-cache to be rebuilt .. it took actually less than normal time to boot.
2. in about phone section, the build ID is still named elk not KNTXtreme or anywhere close that ..
3. it's mentioned in the changelog that it's using a new kernel .. but in the about phone section, it's still targeting the old kernel ...
am I missing something here?
Notes:
- I have been flashing ROMs for 2 years now, so I am no beginner .. or I think so
- I flashing the x-treme CM10 Pure ROM failed the first time due to an assert statement in the update script. I read somewhere online that I should remove that for it to work, and I did and it worked .. or at least it didn't fail. The reset of the script (printing, clearing, formatting, ... ) went fine .. so I think it worked ..
Any Advice brothers?
Anyone ...

Some Question about this ROM
Hi,
my Ace2 is still running under Stock Android 2.3.6. and I would like to Upgrade to CM.
For me stability and a working phone are more important than having the latest android Version, so my question is - which CM Version would you recommend? CM11 or is CM10.2 more stable? And is the latest version also the most stable one?
Is it correct that the only issue with CM11 is the Live streaming problem and with CM10.2 the memory leaks reported by some users- or are there more problems with these ROMS? A well working GPS is also important for me - is this the case?
And how difficult would it be to go back to stock 2.3.6. if CM is not working well for me?
Sorry for all the question and thanks in advance!

Flash chrono kernel..1014 build got a kernel broken...
@hackstorm1989
I have the GT-I8160L too.
This ROM specifically i haven't tried yet, but I've installed 2 different builds of NovaFusion CM11 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2568105) and now I'm running J-TEAM AOSP (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588054).
As TeamCanjica, both these ROMs are for the GT-I8160, but can be installed on GT-I8160L by changing the lines in the updater-script of the ROM (META-INF/GOOGLE/ANDROID/) where it checks the model of the device. I also read that the tee folder (system/lib/) of the ROM must be replaced by a copy of a tee folder from a running GT-I8160L firmware with SIM and carrier services properly working.
I've followed this guide:
http://brasildroid.com.br/showthread.php?t=23729
So, just by checking the updater-script of teamcanjica CM11, i GUESS it could be installed on GT-I8160L through the same 2 steps that i did with the other cited ROMs.
Also, I remember seeing other members running these ROMs on the L version while reading these 3 threads. I really wanna know what exactly differences are between these 2 device versions.
Please anyone let me know and correct me if I've posted any wrong information.
@soraxx
I can´t post in the main thread yet (10 post treshold), but maybe you read this or someone can copy this into the main thread.
I had exactly the same problem (audio but no video picture) and a simple change from stock browser to firefox solved it - Maybe it works for you too.

Just a little help on picking a ROM

So I recently installed Fulmics 3.7 but found that it still has BT issues on the F400K making it impossible to sync with my Gear Live.
I started searching and found the KDZ files for MM for my phone but was unable to find any simple debloated/rooted ROMs made from them.
What I'm looking for is a ROM that simply works, nothing fancy or flashy. Can anyone point me in a good direction?
I would like to stick to MM if possible but am not totally married to the idea.
I made a post in the Android MM discussions thread asking about whether my SIM would be locked to some Korean carrier if I updated (bought the phone in Asia and now use it in the US, was already rooted when I purchased it and not sure if the original setup was locked to a Korean carrier) so if someone replies and says it will work I may just flash the KDZ and then root afterward.
Anyway, if anyone could put in their two cents I would really appreciate it
@cliffordconradsumner , flashing KDZ will not lock it to Korean carrier. If your are looking for stable stock based rom, I would recommend to download and install below. Found it from lgviet, it is modified by member Tizen. I used all other roms including Fulmics but reverted back to it as everything works on it.
Rom Download Link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-V6jOenWB4sOVNFUmhRcXZSZ2M/view
File Addition : https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-V6jOenWB4sRnRCSTBwdmM2MXM/view
Installation Instructions:
You must be on Stock Lollipop, rooted and TWRP recovery installed.
Full wipe (Date, system, cache, Dalvik)
Install the rom by choosing your variant and reboot. (DO NOT install file addition zip at this point)
Once you complete initial setup, reboot into recovery with Quickboot app (already included in recovery) and now install File addition zip. (downloaded above from 2nd link). Reboot your cell and enjoy.
Thanks so much for the info! I'm doing a search for lgviet not to try and find the rom to read up a little more about it. Is there a thread here on XDA?
