Root i747mvlufnh2 - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello,
I was wondering if there was any way to root the new i747mvlufnh2 firmware and if it would trip any counter?
Would towelroot work or cf autoroot?

I just tried Towel root and get a "Phone not supported .. ?

Towel root won't work. Just flash the SuperSU package in recovery. Use the ones from my signature. The latest 2.02 is having problems.

I should just install the Superuser_2.00.apk ?

If you used towelroot to root, yes just install the app. Otherwise you will need to flash one of the zip files.

Can anyone pull a flashable modem from I747MVLUFNH2 ?

I'll try to post them in my 4.4.2 modem thread sometime today. Have to download each full firmware to get them though so it may take a little time.
Unless anyone wants to extract the Non-hlos.bin from the firmware and just upload that for me!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T999 using Tapatalk

extract the who from the what and bring it where ?:banghead: lol. still such a freakin newb-head.
err on the side of kindness

Starting with the full firmware .tar.md5 file, extract with 7zip and you'll see all the different partitions that are flashed when you flash with Odin.
NON-HLOS.bin is the modem.
Tz.mbn - Trust Zone
Rpm.man - resource and power management
Sbl2&3 - secondary boot loader
Aboot.mbn - application bootloader
Boot.img - kernel
I don't need that to be done now though. I started the downloads earlier so they should be waiting for me when I get back.

Sent from my SGH-I747M using XDA Free mobile app

You flash via custom recovery, which you'd have to flash with Odin.
A custom recovery will trip the warrant bit. There's no way to root without doing so.

Ah there used to be I think. Anyway my 1year warranty ended 2 days ago so tripping the counter should not be a problem right?
Sent from my SGH-I747M using XDA Free mobile app

Nope. If its out of warrany it doesn't matter at all. There used to be root66 firmware which didn't trip it, but the latest versions had mixed results. And the 4.4.2 builds aren't out....yet. You can wait to try that if/when they are ready, or you can root via recovery as mentioned earlier.
New root66 will be worked on, but I can't give a solid eta as I'm not the one doing the work. Not promising anything either.

Firmware update using mobile odin

Have just rooted using cf auto root and want to update my firmware which is currently on stock 4.1.1. I am in the UK but my phone is a grey import with csc code (AFR), which according to Sammobile is Kenya. Can I just update the firmware using any of the English 4.1.2 files using mobile odin without messing up my phone?
I haven't got Cwm installed as I only want to use official firmwares.
Thankyou..

I think you cant just use otin mobile because you have to upgrade also bootloader and this is possible only with odin PC version. But maybe im wrong

Yes you can update any country ROM for same device.
Just to add if you want to use mobile odin, then keep in mind Mobile odin won't flash bootloader and i recommend to flash bootloader later with PC odin, still your root will remain intact.
PS : actually bootloader need not to flash everytime and only this time there is a fix for exynose bug so you need to do it.

you need to flash bootloader separately only if you use mobile odin to update ROM.
In case you are using PC odin to flash latest stock ROM, that will include bootloader and need not to flash it separately.
This is b'coz as i said mobile odin can't flash bootloader.(safety feature)

[HELP] GS3 Can't install ROM

Yes, you will be completely stock. Keep in mind that with any 4.3 updates you cannot flash older firmware anymore. Roms are ok, just not previous firmware. You probably already know that since you're on MK4. But FYI anyway.
You can flash using Mobile Odin, but it will not update your bootloader and other underlying partitions. They would remain MK4. You could tell it to not flash recovery and twrp would be preserved.

I don't know if it will still work on the latest builds, but you could also look into MotoChopper. Some used it to root in the past, and I know it does not write over recovery, so it may not trip the warranty bit. I have no idea if it would trip, or even if it'd work anymore, but is another option worth looking at.
Check ATT forums too. Their root methods usually work for us too.

[how-to] flash modem/baseband from phone

I have the a way to install baseband if you are rooted, custom, or even on cyanogenmod like I was. When i tried to flash the NE6 baseband i could not get it to work for the life of me. I wanted to flash without PC. This is the little guide I came up with and will post links also so it it easier.
1. Download a Stock NF1 Custom rom. Also download Triangle Away, Rashr, Mobile Odin, Stock Kernel and recovery, and the Modem + NON-HLOS for NF1 Thanks @toastido @Chainfire @DsLNeXuS
2. Now flash stock NF1 rom via custom recovery
3. Once on NF1 firmware and NF1 stock kernel you must flash NF1 stock recovery. I did the via Rashr app
4. Now that you are fully (kernel, rom, recovery) stock rooted you can use triangle away to reset your flash counter
5. Boot back up and use mobile odin to flash NF1 baseband and viola! Updated baseband without having to connect to a computer.
IF THIS HELPED DON'T FORGET TO HIT THANKS.
Thnx, but really, I can wait till I'm around a PC. That's quite the process
Thanks man. No problem. I had to do this as I was on cyanogen and didn't have a PC on hamd

Oe1 stock recovery

Does anyone have it backed up
Good question but how does one do that? Initial OE1 root users only?
Easy way is to root OE1 in Odin but leave stock recovery until Flashify is installed in Google Play (root only devices) and backup stock recovery. That could be shared to install with Flashify easily as well.
A harder way may actually require custom kernel? ADB copy the recovery to sdcard. I don't think that's possible with stock recovery and enforcing kernel?
Hopefully one that reads well before rooting OE1 the first time will come across this and help out accordingly. The adventurous trying the incremental OTA to get the 5.1.1 OTA, whenever that is, could make a short root and unroot quick stop along the way to 5.1.1 OTA to help out those stuck on OE1 without stock recovery. That would be helpful if so bold. And if so willing, root/TWRP/backup everything on 5.1.1 and try to Odin another stock to see if Odin is still broke. If you're thinking, "you first", I'm not that adventurous myself but rather patient, waiting for the tar or all clear on Odin. Regards to unfortunate on OE1, especially if they have to wait for a tar.

Unroot can be done within SuperSU app.

Per the developer, Flashify backups of kernel and recovery are raw .img files.
He says you should be careful using these with compression formats. I would think the .bin extension got placed there by the process of uploading and storage and downloading. For those downloading, to remove it or rename without knowing how it was uploaded is risky.
To answer the questions that followed your upload, can you share with us the process you used? Did you convert it or just upload the original raw file with no extension? I suspect the latter is true since it appears to have no compression.
If uploaded as raw/no extension, I'd say just remove the .bin extension to flash as raw in Flashify before unrooting. (When trying to return to stock.)
Thanks in advance.
