Unfortunately, it looks like I will be returning my Moto 360 - Moto 360

It wasn't the battery life that put the nail in the coffin. It's 4-5 daily disconnects or phantom disconnects from my Nexus 5. What good is this thing if all it does is tell time? I have another watch that can do that.

Misery loves company, I suppose.... That may explain why Motorola support was hardly helpful.

Since Motorola said they would take their sweet time in getting back to me about my issue, I decided to put Android L on my Nexus 5 to see if that helps the situation. If anyone's interested, I will post my results over the next few days.

I have been holding off on Android L only cause everything I want works on my phone.

Lol you guys think that's bad? You can just cycle bluetooth and it reconnects right?
I'm using the 360 with an ancient GS2 with CM-11 on it, and my bluetooth module is dying or something because it will disconnect the watch > then turn off bluetooth > and only way to re-enable is to restart the GS2 lol
My watch is more powerful than my phone... no update will fix that!

20 minutes in and so far so good. Ha!
I will let more time go by before I do a real update. Off the bat, the difference I noticed is that the status bar just says "connected," rather than "connected, running sync loop." Not sure if that means anything.

I've only had one disconnect since I got the watch on Monday. it's been great so far. using it with a G3. Tried it with my M8 and no problems.
But hopefully there will be some sort of update for those that are having constant issues.

Hour 4, minute 9. No disconnects to be reported. An uneasy calmness fills the air.

I had about five disconnects a day with my Note 3. I returned the 360 after a week for many reasons. I just picked up a Gear 2, and it's such a better smartwatch. I have a "That's so cool" moment several times a day, where as I didn't have many of those on the 360. Rock solid connection too. Tizen surprisingly works great. The only thing I miss a little is Google Now.

Sadly, I just returned my moto 360 today. I got constant disconnects on Bluetooth as well, but that actually didn't bother me. For me, it was the battery life. I got tired of charging it once in the middle of the day, everyday.
Also, I think Android wear is just not up to par yet...
My last watch was the Gear 2, & I agree that it's a much better watch and much better operating system. I got spoiled by 3 to 4 days worth of battery life and a beautiful screen- it just happens to be square... Also, the IR blaster is just too damn cool and useful!
I liked the round watch so much, that my next SmartWatch will probably be the LG G watch R. I'm hoping that they learn a lesson from Motorola and fix some of the problems that the moto 360 had. I'm also hoping that it is easier to modify and we can have a better experience with Android wear. I think I'm going to stick with Android Wear- after all, I remember the Android operating system was pretty bad when it first came out too...
Lastly, I just think it's ridiculous to have a watch that has the display turned off most of the time. I know someday in the future (soon) we will look back and laugh at the fact that smart watches had to sit there with the screens turned off most the time!

moto x here. no disconnects.

S5 here and no disconnects either.

I have an N5 and have experienced none of the behavior mentioned by OP. Watch stays connected unless I get out of range and reconnects smoothly when I come back within range.

Do you have an app that notifies you when the connection is lost? If not, you may not even notice when it disconnects. I had an app that alerted me when my phone was out of Bluetooth range. Or when BT was dropped in this case.

I have a Moto X, had a LG G watch for a week and now a moto 360 for a few days, haven't seen a single disconnect with either one.

Only disconnected once over 5 days (other than testing how far I could go before it would, and it's at least 4 walls away), using Moto X. Maybe just your watch is the issue, and try a replacement before a return?

Are you buying one? If yes could you share the points that you think matters for you to own one?
Thanks
I'm definitely considering buying one, or at least asking for it for Xmas if I don't get around to buying it. I've kind of been wanting to get a watch anyways and this brilliant little device would be a nice watch and great for seeing what messages friends are sending to me while I'm working. I'm also an accessory whore so theres that as well. Why buy a fancy watch when I can get something that connects right to my phone and does much more than tell me the time
If it isn't astronomically priced I would consider getting one. Sony made an older bluetooth watch that is still available on ebay for a fairly high amount though.
I amuse myself with the thought of kids in school being able to check their text messages / social networks from their watch. I would have.
I have one since yesterday but display wont work, battery wont load,so bad.

I'm actually thinking of buying this one too. regarding battery life, right now I have my x10 connected to my mbw-150 and IS800 and so far my phone lasts a day, granted I only wear them when I go out which is like 6 or 7 hours a day.
6 hours are the normal battery time for the liveview device!
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
6 hours battery life is putting it a little low. Got mine since Friday 19th and have been using it since.
The battery holds for about 14 hours with on and off (regular) usage.
But as with all new devices, you'll probably drain that thing dry in about 5-6 hours, since you will be fumbling it all the time.
But as time goes and you'll use it normally, you should see a days worth of usage from the thing.
What concerns me, personally is the stability of the Software.
I don't know, how much is the apps fault (fixable), or that of the device (I've read no mention of it being update-able).
I already wrote SE for a statement on the matter.
As it is now, the device regularly quits working.
It wont go further then showing you the watch (time and date).
Nothing else.
After turning it off and on again, it automatically connects again and works though (taking about 10 seconds and two button presses).
With that behavior it's quite unreliable for notifications (it's main purpose).
I hope, SE can somehow fix that.
Got mine from ldlc.com
work nice.
But I'm a little bit disapointed with my mw600 now. I don't understand why the LiveView can display my contact name and my music title and the mw600 not ....
Dear All Thanks for the application
can anybody post the other 7 applications for live view since i dont have the android market in my x10 mini pro

Can anybody please provide the updated version of liveview.apk?

So-so at best. It seemed to run better when running KANG but I flashed Codename Android last night and I can't even get the software to load on the phone, so it does not see the watch.
The problems I had before were with disconnects and reconnects. Sometimes it would be fine for hours, other times my wrist would be vibrating all the time and it came up and down. I think it's the watch, not the phone. (at least until the new ROM) I'm hopping my pebble will be better when it comes

cool i gues ill wait for that too
I just bought one yesterday night. I'm using ParanoidAndroid 2.1 ROM on my phone. Everything's working fine as intended, only complains are the slightly inferior software used by Sony itself. No disconnections, fair enough.
but if you had a choice between this and the pebble watch?
I'm fine with either one but Pebble isn't readily available.
I have no connection issues with my gnex running jellybean and my motoactv. Other smart watched should work just as well.

How to make Google Fit use my 360 not my phone...

I finally put the google fit app on my phone and I like the views it provides but noticed a problem.
In the settings if I don't have activity detection on then it doesn't show anything coming from my smart watch (Moto 360). If I turn it on it seems to only use the sensors in the phone and ignores the watch.
Perfect test - set the phone on the counter jump on the treadmill and run a few miles. Fit app shows no steps during that time and resyncs the moto 360 to display it's #s.
I'm looking to have that style app interface but running off the Moto 360's data not an internal phone pedometer. Is this something Fit can do or does anyone have another app?
Thanks for the help.
I think this might have something to do with Fit not being compatible with the Moto 360 on a hardware level yet. The 360 doesn't appear in the list of connected apps and devices within Fit. I assume in time, it will and that will allow monitoring from the smartwatch and not the phone. Just my guess though, I don't know for sure.

Well that straight up sucks... I guess I'll remove it. Any thoughts on an app that is properly compatible? It seems motorola is trying with Moto Body, but they have nothing on the app side to use.
I had to do exactly this. Not only was Fit not registering my steps, I think that it was actually also draining my battery faster. Since I've removed it, my battery life is up 40-50%. Food for thought.
As for Moto Body, I was loath to use it at first. But, with a bit of time, it's actually grown on me. The HR monitor seems to be faster and I like the presentation of steps, calories, miles, etc. (I'm talking about the new version with Moto Connect update.)

I agree on the battery life thing as well and the phone side of the moto body stuff..... Now if they'd just build the rich app side I'd be happy... Fit started with that but humped the device part.

Right. On the Google fit website, they claim that they sync. I left a comment that it does not.
So if more folks voice their concerns, something will be done sooner.
Wow, and this still doesn't work. ?

update to this. i recently updated my phone from stock 4.4.4 to 5.02, however, I did not install Google Fit. yesterday, I decided to try re-installing it since we got a software update on the watch recently. as soon as I installed Google Fit, I noticed that my phone downloaded all of my steps history from my watch! very glad to see this. so now we'll see how the activity detection impacts the battery on my phone today.
so I'm not sure if the syncing working now is due more to the recent watch software update or my phone being on lollipop. can someone that has kitkat on their phone/device confirm?
thanks!

I'm on lolli and mine still doesn't work
So after 2 years Fit is still broken. I only see steps when I carry my phone with me. Leave it on the counter, and run around with my moto360 I see the counter go up on my watch and in the MotoBody app but not in the fit app. I've uninstalled, reinstalled all of the apps and reconnected them. Fit just doesn't work with connected counters. So I uninstalled it and won't look back.

Zenwatch Wifi

Does anyone know if we have wifi built in. I've heard people say all the Snapdragon 400 have it built in. I know some will not care about this because it may turn out to being a battery sucking update. But a may be a good update for others.

Wifi is not available on all Snapdragon 400 processors. I am sure they used one that does not have it for costs. Even if it was available the antennas wouldn't be there. Would be nice though.
Wifi
Great question! I've been trying to find an answer to it since the article ran on Google turning on wifi for android wear devices. Looking at Qualcomm's page on the ZenWatch, they "link" it to a picture of the Snapdragon 400 (bottom of the page) and say that Snapdragon 400 processors support 4G LTE, and when you look at the following picture of the chip at their page for the ZenWatch (I cannot post links yet), you see that the LTE and Wifi share the same space on the chip. However, depending on where you look you see that the Zenwatch is running either the 8026 or 8226, and the 8026 is said to not support wifi. Then, Techtimes says that the Zenwatch, Gear Live, and the Urbane all support Wifi..
The truly odd piece of it is that according to the article on The Verge- "Most Android Wear watches already have Wi-Fi built in, so a simple software update should activate the feature for them." (I cant post links yet). The only watch that I can see that actually supports it is the Sony 3. Most of the other watches seem to share the Qualcomm 400 chipset, but I doubt anybody will know which actually supports wifi until Google "turns" it on. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the Zenwatch will though!!
Fantastic research.
This may be of interest:
http://www.techtimes.com/articles/3...-gesture-control-and-wi-fi-support-report.htm
"Many smartwatches running on Android Wear, including the Samsung Gear Live, the Asus ZenWatch, and the LG Watch Urbane, are powered by a Snapdragon chip that has a built-in Wi-Fi module, so a simple firmware update should immediately activate Wi-Fi in these devices."
Especially good news considering this:

Hopefully Asus activates it... :fingers-crossed:

I disagree. Not to go off-topic, but I feel like I'm getting a decent amount of utility for the $200 I spent. The appearance is great (and I get lots of compliments on it) and the battery life is good enough. I'm not really sure the wifi feature is going to be that useful. Don't we all keep our phones in our pockets 24x7 anyway?
I am looking forward to being able to draw text message responses. It sounds dumb, but if you're in a loud place (and can't use the voice actions) being able to quickly draw an "okay" or "no" response is going to be great.
I'm happy with the Zen watch; I only have found a few issues, one being the BT range is just a little too short. WiFi would have helped with that, but I'm still very happy with it.

I felt the same way, wifi wasn't advertise but neither was it few a other phones but was still activated when updated. I felt a bit inferior when it didn't work for me and saw that it works for just about every other watch. yes my phone is in my pocket most of the time but I work IT in a hospital and sometimes I forget my phone at my desk and on the charger and my watch is disconnected, I was looking forward to still having connection.
I did pick up this watch over all others due to the look mostly, it was the best looking watch hands down without looking too geeky.
wifi - atleast 24hr battery life without having to dumb it down, and edge to edge screen (not so much bezel) would have made the watch perfect for me. oh and heart rate sensor on the back and not the two finger on the edge bit.
Personally I wish they would have just eliminated the heart rate feature. None of the heart rate monitors on the wear watches are that accurate, and the cost savings on this model in particular could have been used to implement a wifi antenna. Unfortunately everybody is on the wellness device hype train.

There's actually two parts to the update: the Android Wear app on your phone - and the actual firmware on the watch and to the best of my knowledge, the update for the watch itself isn't out yet.
Correct, the watches need the firmware update which hasn't started yet. Given that its only one site reporting I think wed be best advised to see what happens when the update comes
There is an antenna!
Bluetooth and wifi can share the same antenna!!! Most smartphones and tablets do. Looked at the internals of the s3-s5 and some other devices and they seemingly share the same antenna. That's my understanding anyway. Because the wifi and bluetooth are on the same chip, something in the hardware allows the two to coexist on the same antenna. They operate in the same frequency range so I imagine it does some switching in the hardware.
If our watches don't get Wifi, I really don't believe it's a hardware limitation. I wish there was a tear down for the zenwatch, as I've seen it for every other watch. I'm not brave enough to take mine apart.
Someone fact check! Hope I'm not wrong
---------- Post added at 09:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:52 PM ----------
I've read that the urbane has an Snapdragon 8026 and mostly the same innards as the G Watch R. If its getting WiFi then surely other watches using the same processor will be supported.

Is there any way to connect this amazing smartwatch to my iphone.

So I got the Sony Smartwatch 2 a while ago and its amazing.
It's the only smartwatch I have seen that you can text on. That's right it was a wee bit laggy but it worked my watch screen turned into a keypad where you can create the letters required to send a text. I loved this at work where you are not allowed to have your phone on you I could have it hidden away in my pocket and text off my smartwatch.
Sadly I changed from my battery eating Samsung galaxy S2. I was lucky if the battery would last me a day, over to my Iphone 4S which last a bit longer than a day.
Sadly the Sony Smartwatch 2 doesn't work for Iphone.
I am hoping everyday that someone makes this possible with a modified firmware. If that even is possible.
I miss the awesome potential of this watch.
It is NOT possible. You have to buy another watch.
