How to remove album art from gallery - G Pad 8.3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My picture gallery is filled with 100s of album covers from my music library. How do I remove these from the Gallery (apart from going through them one by by one which will take forever)?

you should be able to isolate the folder that they come from and disable that folder from showing up in your gallery. If you are unable to do so, then I would suggest using Quickpic which is a far better program than gallery anyway. Look in the settings for gallery to see if that option exists.

a .nomedia file in the root of the music folder might do the trick. However depending upon what music program you use it might also make the music "disappear" from view.

Went for QuickPic in the end - as you say, much better. Thanks!

How do I make photos show up in Photos and Gallery?

HTC's Photos app doesn't show the photos on my SD card and neither does Gallery (the cooliris Nexus One app ported to Incredible). How do I get photos to show up? Arr, it's driving me nuts!
Edit: SOLVED, see below.

I fixed this using the free "Gallery Enabler" app from the Market. I definitely recommend it!

I tried that app and thought it was great too, until I couldn't find any of my music playlists.
I think it hides folders from other applications besides Photos.
If you have problems, open gallery enabler and check all folders before you un-install it.
Then the right way to fix it is to open the Photos app on the phone, clck on the menu button and select "Settings" and then "Default Albums" then select the options you want from there.
If you're wondering how this application works, it probably just deletes/adds the hidden .nomedia files from folders. Those files restrict applications from having access to the media by signaling the android media scanner to ignore them. For instance, if you put one in the root of your sd card, the system would ignore any media on your entire card.
In theory, it's a great idea.
The problem is that all of my music is organized in folders and each folder contains the album art for the album.
So blocking the folder with the album art so that it does not show up in the gallery also blocks the music file from different media applications.

Ah, you're definitely right. All my music stopped showing up. However, once I went back and enabled all the folders and applied settings in Gallery Enabler all my music showed up again and the photos were still fixed. I suppose you could use Gallery Enabler once to "force" Gallery and Photos to see all the folders.
Changing default albums in HTC's Photos app did nothing to make media show up again. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Un-installing gallery enabler brought my music back but not the playlists, I had to manually re-build all of my playlists again.

stock gallery question

hey, guys!
I've owned several htc devices before and really liked the way their gallery was set up to view the pics without breaking them down into folders. Is there any way to make the stock gallery look like that? (just pictures organized by date they were taken, not separate folders those pics are in) Or maybe download an aftermarket app? I've tried quik pic on the note, but that app didn't have those options.
Thank you!

The stock Gallery application should have a drop down menu in the top left corner that lets you sort by Album, Location, Time (taken), People and Tags.

So I put .nomedia in my music folders, now how do I get my music to show up!?

I hate how all my music album covers show up in the gallery, so I put a .nomedia file in the folders to prevent the gallery being cluttered. Well, now my music players won't recognize any music files.
Does anyone know how to make music files appear in the player and have no album covers in the gallery?

Have you tried GalleryExcluder from the Playstore? You can hide any image or set of images with it from the gallery.

It looks like this app is no longer in the play store.
Here you go. I pulled a copy from an old backup.

Exclude Images/Folders from Album

Hi!
installed somes apps, copied some music, etc.
now those images (e.g. albumart / coverart) appear in the album, so it's very bloated with a lot of undesired images.
how can i exclude certain folders from being visible in the album? tried it already with a ".nomedia"-file in those folders, but this doesn't seem to work.
any ideas?
thanks & have a nice day.
There is a .NOMEDIA file in the demovideo folder. Copy that file to the folders you don't want to get indexed, then clear the cache of the album app. Reboot your phone and your set.

sorry, as i didn't find a solution yet...
Use Quickpic app to hide any folders you don't want the album to see. It works fine.

Is it posible that there´s a Problem with the .nomedia file in your xperia z?
Example:
I´ve a .nomedia File in the WhatsApp Media Directory. Right after the creation of that .nomedia file, everything is fine, the Pictures are hidden in the Album app. I´m recieving a Picture in whatsapp, Album app also Shows it, also after reboot!

USE QUICKPIC please. It is (so far) the only quick solution.
You do not need a .nomedia file under your music directory. You do however need to rename the album/cover art jpg files to AlbumArt.jpg (not cover.jpg or other filename), and Sony's Album app will automatically exclude those images.
You will still need to clear the media cache.

Bravia engine not working with quickpic
I've noticed Bravia Engine doesn't kick in when viewing images with QuickPic. Is there a way it enable it?
As I understand it, the .nomedia file doesn't work with JB 4.2+
Check StudioKuma .nomedia manager on PlayStore

Well, I just downloaded an icon pack and added a single period in front of the name of the unpacked folder. This makes the folder hidden. It no longer shows on my album or my widget for that matter.

The .nomedia solution works perfectly fine for me. However it will not exclude stuff that is already in the album so you need to clear the data of the Media Storage (Settings --> Apps --> All --> Media Storage) app. It will mean that it will need to rescan your phone however, but it will correctly exclude any directory with the .nomedia file in it.
This works on XZ and it also worked on my old SGS3 running CM10.1 (JB 4.2.2)

No, be is part of the stock album app.

Quickpic hides them from both galleries. If they're still in your album after you've hidden them, then you either need to reboot or if you've stopped media scanner you have to scan media to ensure they're no longer shown in album app.
Quick pic works perfectly on Z I use it to hide all my wallpapers from the gallery ;-p
It's a good way of seeing what your pictures REALLY look like without Bravia shenanigans also lol

Gallery

Whenever I open the gallery, all of the artwork from my mp3s is mixed in with the my pictures. This makes it next to impossible to find something quickly. Is there an easy way to organize them out or hide them without clicking each individual picture? This seems very dumb. My iphone, nor any other phone I've ever used does this. Thoughts?
In your music folder, put an empty text file with the filename 'nomedia' (without the quotation marks and file extention). Then in settings > apps > gallery , select clear data.

Sorry for being dense, but the hierarchical structure you listed doesn't work.
Did you mean setting>general(tab)>apps?....if so "gallery" isn't listed there. If I go into gallery and try to move the photos, it just randomly moves them around.....no labels or anything. I don't understand. Do I need to go into my windows explorer on my pc to adjust the folders?....that seems dumb that you can't easily do it from the phone.

It normally has to be done on the computer I believe but it might not let the android media scanner find your music or use the pictures for album artwork. I honestly I just use QuickPic and it has the options to hide(.no media) and exclude folders and I just select exclude folders from my main music folder so it doesn't include them.

Hi!
Yes i meant setting>general(tab)>apps. Under apps if you scroll horizontally u will find gallery under 'ALL' tab.
In order to move files, folders or any other operation to a file or folder, you need to use a file manager app. There are different file managers available for android. Personally i use ES file manager. A pretty good app called just File Manager is already there in G Pro. You can use it to manage your folders.
As jesi.james above pointed out putting the .nomedia (sorry i missed the '.' before nomedia in my previous post) file in your music folder will hide the album arts from the gallery but it will hide the music files from the music player as well. I am sorry i wasnt aware of that. i do not store my music on my phone. I listen to it from play music.
To solve your problem, i found that there is an option in the gallery menu to hide/show albums. You can choose the albumd you do not want to see in your gallery. If you have a large music collection, you will have to select the albums one by one. Frustrating.
Next option is to use Quickpic. This is a very good alternative to the default gallery and it gives you options to select folders you want show or hide in quickpic as mentioned by the guy above.
