[Q] LG G3 Cracked Lens Problem - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So the camera lens for my G3 broke. I didn't drop it or anything, it just broke. I bought a replacement part just for the lens cover. When I was trying to take apart the lens, I noticed that it has a seal on the top that keeps the lens cover connected. Can i take off the cover or will there be problems because of the seal? I've attached a link so you guys know which part I'm talking about.

Are you trying to take the glass out of that piece you linked to, and attach it to the one on your phone? It seems it would be easier to replace the entire piece rather than just the glass.
If not, I suspect the seal is designed to hold the glass in place and prevent dust from getting inside the assembly. As long as you make sure the new glass piece is sealed somehow (glue?), it will probably be OK. But I've never done this, so to some extent I'm guessing.

Update?

Hi - what was the outcome for this? The same thing has happened to my phone and I see that part you linked. Could you explain whether you installed the part and whether your problem was because you were trying to separate just the glass from the part or whether you had trouble with just removing and then installing that new part. Some pics to help us out?
Thanks.

Different Lens on Evo

My lens cracked today (don't know how) and I want to get it fixed. Can I take it to a camera shop and have them outfit it with another type of lens (example: leica lens)? Any photographers here or people who work in a camera shop?
I have some cameras that I can pull a lens from. Just wanting to know if this were possible.
Sent while sitting on the toilet.
I would suggest taking it back to Sprint and see if they can fix it for you. Not to sure about camera shops but you can see what they say. Give it a try and let us know what happens.

You didn't crack the lens

You cracked the cover. The lens is under the front cover. I've thought about removing mine since I think the cover is causing some of the photo issues that are out there.
Remove the cover and see if the pics improve!
It would cost hundreds of dollars to custom build a lens and mount it to the evo, if any camera shop will even attempt to do that.
I wanted to swap the lens. I don't use a cover with my phone since I did the scraped paint mod. I'm surprised it broke since I don't put anything in left pocket but my phone.
I saw a post on here about people adding a camera lens attachment to the Evo. I'm pretty sure the lens can be replaced and I have a spare leica camera that's not working.
I would imagine the process to be similar to getting the lens for glasses cut to size but maybe more tedious.

As someone already pointed out it's the cover which cracks, not the lense.

Xperia play front housing?

So i have a dent in my front housing as well as a few cracks (from dropping the phone) , I was wondering if I would have to take apart the whole phone to replace it or if the two screws (which are covered) behind the screen will suffice. Thanks in advance.

Bump.
To the best of my knowledge you do have to take apart the whole phone.
Does the play have any warranty stickers?

Replace Chrome trim on SGS2?

I'm trying to find a source on whether I can replace the trim know my phone since it's been dinged from the previous owner as well as myself.
I've found some the link to the replacement screen thread but it doesn't say if the lcd is part of the top or how to get it out? I've seen some oem housings online but not sure if I can remove my lcd which is fine and put it in the newer housing?
Is there glue or adhesive that holds it in?
Thanks for any help.

You just need to unscrew the backplate and exchange it.
No glue no adhesives or something. it just sits there.
It will take about 10 minutes or so..
Here is a picture of the part:
Mine fell out of its place, the last i had the phone opened and i´m to lazy to put it back.
Edit: sorry for that huuuuge picture.. blame our 8mp camera.

Sorry - but I think we have a misunderstanding. I'm talking about the chrome trim around the entire LCD not the camera.
oh.. honestly i don´t think that the part you described is chrome. Atleast not on my GSII
and the thing i posted is the shiny ring around the headphone plug.
OP its not chrome its plastic..
1) replace the whole screen housing with with working parts from say ebay
2) buy a whole SGS2 housing unit and plus top screen ( this option you'll need to remove youe current lcd screen and once replaced in new housing the top screen needs to be bonded to housing. (M3 double sided tape or a thin silcon glue)
3) take it to a service centre
4)keep it as it is..
as par your question
Is there glue or adhesive that holds it in? Yes.
Top screen will need to be heated with hot air to release it from its bond.

Thanks - that's what I wanted to hear. So it's more effort than I'd like to spend on it. Looks like I'll just move the phone to try something else.

[Q] Has anyone replaced the back camera?

I dropped the phone and broke the back camera glass cover. I ordered the part online.. but after a few days, a black spot appeared on my lens (if you open the camera app). Initially, I thought it was a dust or something but after the replacement glass came in, I tried to clean it but it won't come off.. so, now I'm thinking it's a scratch. So... it looks like I need to replace the camera. Has anyone else done it? I want to... but, I don't to bother if a replacement won't be the original quality.

It's not that I don't know how... I've watched tutorials. Quality is the issue.
