Internet slowed to a crawl on T-Mobile... - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've had this phone for awhile now, I want to say since April and it's been fine for the most part besides 3 other bugs I've been meaning to post about on here, but I've gotten rock solid internet with an unlocked phone from Amazon on T-mobile with the stock Android, including through all updates to 4.4's most recent. It flies on LTE and HSPA+.
Out of nowhere yesterday my data slowed to a crawl. I Speed Test it and I'm getting literally 0.04MBS down and around the same up.
I'm not being throttled. Although stupidly through procrastination I'm still on a month to month from an old contract where I get unlimited but get throttled after 5gig's use, I'm literally only 2 days and maybe 100mb into my cycle and even when I'm throttled they keep me between 1 and 2 megs down.
I'm really unsure what has happened and would really appreciate if anyone could lend a helping hand here with suggestions or the outright known issue and fix.
Thanks,
Cliff

I've been pretty busy yesterday and today so I haven't even had a chance to call them yet, going to call tomorrow.
Maybe it's something as simple as a bad SIM Card?
Maybe I have to enter something into the settings under network?

Or a problem with the network which is why it's best to Phone them first.

Working On A Guide For Flashing Incredible 2 Over To Straight Talk

Hey Guys,
I'm currently working on a guide for flashing a Incredible 2 to Straight Talk Service. I've hit a huge snag though. If anyone with experience with CDMA Workshop can PM it'd be greatly appreciated. When I get the phone completely flashed over I'll happily help anyone else flash their phone over I don't see paying 50 - 100 dollars for someone to flash it when I can figure it out and use the flashing cost to pay for service

Sorry I did not realize i had a reply to this posting. Well I know how to flash the straight talk prl to the phone and etc... I just can not get Incredible 2 to be recognized by CDMA workshop which is a major part of getting this phone running on Straight Talk, since straight talk doesn't allow phones other than their phone on the network.

Yeah, Ik the feeling bud I've been trying to get my phone running on Straight Talk for ages, as soon as I figure it out I'll help ya out!
Wish I could help because I'd like to do this as well. Hope you get the help you need.
I hope so too... cause the only other option for me in the area if i want to use my Incredible 2 is cricket and the service, stinks around here.
I hear you. The least expensive, seemingly reliable, option I have found is $50.
Yeah, and at least with straight talk its on verizon so we know it'll be reliable, it unlimited everything and we get verizon data speeds all at 45/month which is a lot better than the 103/month i was paying on verizon for 450 minute, unlimited txt, and unlimited data.
From what I gather reading about it, ST unlimited data on the $45 plan is actually capped at ~2GB.
An alternative on the Verizon network is PagePlus who announced they are upping the data on the $55 plan to 1GB beginning this month (was scheduled for the 18th but may have been pushed back to the 25th).
Edited to change the PP plan from $40 to $55/mo. Apologies.
Yeah even with it being capped off its still the best choice for the price, and even throttled speeds aren't to bad on ST.
I can probably help you guys out if you are still interested. I do not have the incredible 2, but I have done this with another android phone.

I can use some help flashing the original incredible from Verizon, PM me or email dalethefarmer at gmail dot com. Please.
Well, currently I'm on hold on flashing my Incredible 2 over the charger port has broke, second time I've had it happened
Has anyone figured this out? I currently am using my Droid INC 2 on straight talk and am able to send / receive texts calls and all that but cannot get 3g. Anyone able to help me out?

Sometimes it takes 72 hours to get 3G, IME. Are you using a 3G capable donor phone? If so and you wait that long and still don't have it, call ST support and tell them you aren't getting 3G speeds, without mentioning the swap of course...
I'd hate to revive a month old thread but I did come across this guide for flashing it for Cricket. If someone could adapt it for StraightTalk that would be awesome!

I'm getting about sick of the Verizon service in my area. I'm about to can my contract for good, but I like my DInc2 a lot. I'm running cm9 4.0.4 and its truly incredible now. Does anyone know if the straight talk sim cards will work with the GSM radio in thus phone on any rom?
I'm tempted to get one to try buy I just wonder if someone already has...
it will work just fine for text and talk but the internet will be slow because the phone get only 2G Edge so that's the only problem if u don't care about the speed it will be fine for u
I have the Droid Incredible 2 Global on the Straight talk Network through the Sim Card.
The only problem is I can only get Edge network. Any ideas on how to get the 3G?

No Connection Sprint

I'm just curious to see if anyone else is having the same problem. I have sprint and about an hour ago my connection completely went out. I can still connect to wifi as I am right now. I live slightly southeast of Dallas.. theonly reason I bring it up is because I know that ICS was released today and I'm running cyanogenmod 9 which is ICS. I'm worried that sprint now can somehow tell who is using clean versions of ICS and who is using one like I am. No, nothing is wrong with my account and all bills are paid. I've been multiple places in which I always get a signal so I'm thinking maybe someone else may be having a similar problem.
ICS was released today? show some proof, cause it hasnt been released.
i would say billing issues, but you seem to have that covered. probally just a local issue with a tower in your area or something.
I do not see where ics was released today

Well first off... ICS for our S2'S (ET4G) has not been released. But if you have a link saying otherwise....
Now, a couple of things to look at first...
1. Do you have any friends or neighbors on Sprint??? If their service is messed up to... Its Sprint, give them a call. If their service is fine... Its your phone. If its your phone... Move on...
2. Your rooted and romed... Have you flashed or Odin anything before this happened???
3. You may need to update your profile with Sprint... But I think you need to be on a TW based rom to do that...
And just so you know, Sprint can't tell what rom your running over the air. WoW!!! Can you imagine... Talk about Big Brother!!!
Let us know if any of this helps out.

It happens somewhat regularly lately especially on some of the ics modems. Try a different modem. Fe22 seems to be working well for me the past few days

Sprint can see everything in your about phone section under settings over the air. I've had them tell me what rom I'm running and suggest trying a different rom when I was having data issues on my Evo 4g. They said the info is pushed to them when you refresh a data connection or update your profile. They don't just randomly look at it tho, only when you call tech support for issues does this come up on their end, and they don't give a rats ass if you're rooted and rom'd I've had many a conversation with the phone employees about which roms are cool, what's new and etc. Most of the guys I've talked to are members of xda or other android forums. The only time sprint really cares if you root and rom is if you obviously fubared your phone doing something with flashing and try to get it replaced and even then they only care when its blatantly obvious you screwed up and then try to weasel your way into a free replacement. If you're honest with them they usually just do a warranty replacement and charge you $35 or send you to assurion if you have it. I had one tech tell me how to hard brick my phone so he could swap it and no one could see it had been rooted =-O talk about an odd conversation.
We are legion, for we are many.
I noticed that you are in Dallas. I too am in Dallas and for the last several weeks service has been spotty at best. I am running stock gingerbread now but have had almost all variations of ICS with different modems. The service just sucks in Dallas right now. I have called more than once and both times I was told that we are experiencing upgrades to all of the towers in the DFW area. My 3G and 4G suck donkey balls right now.
I would say it might be a tower upgrade. I had this issue last week and after a few phone calls I found out they were upgrading a tower near my location and had to take it down. I would call Sprint and see what they say.

slowed data speed

Hi i am having this problem my download speed is extremly slow 0.35 MB but my upload is better 1.56 MB. I tested my sim card on 4 different phones giving me the exact same result slow download speed can't be coincidence. I tested the sim card from those phones on my phone and they we're awesome 8 MB to 10 MB on the same place. Is not my phone cause I made the test so I replaced my sim card bought a new one $20 and no luck still the same slow download speeds. I have the new Unlimited Nationwide 4G data plan so I can't be throttled. What can be causing this I am kinda upset with this called and went to costumer service several times and all they say is ''everything is ok on your account''. No something is not ok. If somebody could help me with this I will appreciate your help thanks
I've been getting intermittent speeds. I'm also on the unlimited 4G plan. I don't know what's going on. It has been happening to me for about a week now.

Well, initially I was thinking that maybe you were throttled for taking over what type unlimited plan allocates to you...but I imagine that they would have told you when you called their customer service line. So...with that being said, I suggest you go into any t-mobile store (assuming that you're on t-mobile) and request a new SIM card. I'm guessing that your card is just beginning to go bad...it does happen occasionally. Getting a new one is free, the last time that i checked...so it's worth a shot.
Good luck!

I posted a thread similiar to this thinking i was getting throttled. I called Tmo and they reset my phone onto their network and that did the trick.
But also remember, data speeds will be inconnsistent due to the number of users on the network

We have an ongoing issue with our data speed as well. We have always received crappy data speeds no matter where we are. We just thought is was the way it was. However we are seeing on all our lines less than 1Mb/s speeds no matter where we test. This inlcudes 4g areas 100s of miles from our home and in several other cities.
Our issue was supposed to be escalated to an engineering team 3 days ago but i suspect from the cut and paste response we received that they haven't even checked on it. "Upon checking, we already received a feedback from our engineering department for the service request that was forwarded to them last 10/25/2012 and the result of their investigation is that the coverage in your area is less than what you're expecting to have."

Anyone have an original 4.2.2 nandroid or stock rom I could get?

So finally fed up with Tmo, not by fault of their own but Asurant insurance is destroying me and I have a $500+ phone bill for the second time in a year.. Not really trying to stand for that anymore so I am trying to attempt my first unlock.
Pretty comfortable with rooting romming etc but with unlocking I keep hitting walls. Main one being not having a non knox rom.. I have tried http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2780006 but still cant get the right rom and every old school one I try doesn't have the proper "PERSO SHA256 OFF" options in the debug menu...
Sorry if this is a little long winded and I am open to any suggestions anyone might have if I'm coming off noobish and there is another way..
Thanks
Update 1 : Found the odin firmwares (happy to share if anyone needs for whatever).. Still open to suggestion or input if anyone has some..

I'm at a bit of a loss as to what you are wanting to do; if insurance is killing you, then opt out.
If you're looking to change carriers, from what I remember a law was recently (within the last few years) making if illegal for carriers to charge to unlock a device (after all, its yours).

I was unaware of this law
but currently making so much progress and headway with getting this thing unlocked.. I have it down to stock and I am working out the debug alright getting closer..
All I'm trying to do is get my phone working on net10 (any suggestions on other good carriers?)
I was a G1 homie, been away from this for a bit but having a lot of fun diving back in..
Update : pretty sure im unlocked now, is there any way to check without another carriers sim? I don't have one handy and don't wanna buy into net10 and get a sim if my previous mission wasn't successful

I think without another carrier's SIM you can't be completely sure. I say that because, if I remember right, back when I unlocked I had all the right info in all the right places in the service menu. When I put my Net10 SIM card in it was still locked. I ended up having to buy an unlock code and revert the settings back to the "out of the box" state before the unlock code would actually work.
On a related note; Net10 has done me pretty well so far; been with them a little over a year now. Been all over NW Florida, Alabama, and most every state between here and Minnesota; only dead spot I really hit and stayed in was about an hour on the interstate between Iowa and Missouri. I am running off AT&T's towers, so wherever AT&T has LTE, I also have it.
With auto-renew set, Net10 is almost exactly the same price as Straight Talk; and I still get unlimited everything; though I've never gone much over 2GB of data, so I can't say if they definitely throttle or cut data off completely after a certain point. Speeds vary between 15-30Mbps down and about 10-15Mbps up on LTE, but lets be honest; unless you're using your mobile data as a hotspot or routinely download large files, do you really notice a difference on a mobile device?
thanks geiss
Thanks for the info.. I just ordered a "Tmobile micro sim on ATT network" from net10.. I think at the end of the day I'll go with the $50 plan.. I use my phone for music in the car but that aside from browsing reddit I don't use bandwidth..
As for IMEI checker, my phone is not blacklisted BUT I don't think its working accurately considering I am not getting service from Tmo.. I told them I was gonna jump ship and my phone was cut off maybe an hour later.. Really sucks cause I like Tmo (compared to VZ etc)..

NET10? lol you couldve got the newly priced prepaid $40 a month unlimithed everything plan from T-Mobile... unlimithed talk, txt, and internet, 500MB at LTE speed then throtted down to 2G but still unlimithed... no tax.. $40 flat...
and your IMEI will be blocked, it takes up to 2 weeks to get blacklisted.. something that sucks because thays how people steal/find phomes and still are able to sell on craigslist before they get blocked.. search craigslist for IMEI repair arrownd you when that happens, itll cost you $40-$50.. people are able to flash that now days..

Hotspot out of the box on straight talk

I'm able to use hotspot on straight talk (AT&T). Is this the norm with unlocked phones like OP3? I've looked everywhere and see that straight talk has hotspot plans to activate. Anyone familiar with straight talk know if this will be ok for me to use or could it occur extra charges? Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I've searched and searched and have come up empty. This would be a nice bonus if straight talk doesn't kick you too the curb for using hotspot. It works, I used it for a min.
I've hot spotted on at&t straighttalk for years with no issues.. just gotta watch your usage is all.
