[Q] Root access on all Multirom ROMs - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Hi, I have a rooted nexus 7 and wanted to run multiple ROMs using Multirom and have and use root access on each of them. I cant figure out a way to do this and would like a little help. My Nexus 7 is running Android 4.4.4 and fully rooted on stock kernel and ROM at the moment. If anyone knows how to enable root on multiple ROMs please help me and let me know how. Thanks!

1. Download MultiROM Manager From The Play Store
2. Download the files required. Install Them. (This will install The TWRP recovery)
3. Download A Rom.
4. Reboot Into Recovery Mode->Advanced->MultiROM->Add New Rom
A Delailed Guide Is Available. Just Google "Multirom Nexus 7 XDA"

Thank you for your quick response, I already have MultiROM installed but want root access on the other ROMs. Whenever I boot the other ROMs now most Google applications crash instantly and I can't open them without them crashing again. When I open SuperSU it says that Android versions after 4.3 need to re-root to update binary. How would I update the binary and prevent Google Applications from crashing when opened?

Need more info:
Which ROM?
Which GAPPS?
How did you install them?

Most custom Roms are already rooted. Crashes are not normal. Are you using a patched kernel? Are you choosing to share kernel? Like previous poster said, you need to give more info. You're missing something.

My ROM is just a stock ROM. I am using MultiROM and SuperSU to manage ROMs and root access. Here is a screenshot of my main ROM which is the same one as the secondary. Also, I provided screenshots of SuperSU recognizing MultiROM which I granted access to. I don't see a reason for not having root access on both but I am new to rooting and may have overlooked something. I installed the ROMs and rooted using Nexus Root Toolkit. Let me know if you need more information I would be happy to share.

Why not flash a pre rooted ROM for secondary? And ROM management should be handled in twrp. In twrp select advanced then multirom. You can flash zips for secondary rom there.

I used TWRP to install my secondary ROM. What pre-rooted ROM's would you recommend? I'm looking for some new ROMs to run and I don't know where to start.

I use PAC ROM for my secondary ROM. I keep rooted stock as my primary, but I plan to swap them soon once I get it set up right.

Cm does not work right in MultiROM for me. Paranoid Android, PAC, Slimroms, etc should be good.

[Q] Switching to Android 4.2 from 4.1.2

Hi,
I installed Samsung Galaxy Nexus Toolkit V9.1.0 for GSM to root my device and use Team Win Recovery Project V2.2.2.0 to install ROMs.
Currently on Official nightly build of Cyanogen Mod 10 Rom Android 4.1.2 Build JZO54K.
I want to know if I need to update anything to switch to Android 4.2 ROM or should I just download a good rom and flash it using the software?
While we are on the subject, can someone please recommend a good ROM? When will start getting Cyanogen Mod for Android 4.2?
Thanks.
You should update your recovery to the latest version (either CWM ot TWRP) to avoid nested "0" folders each time you flash a new rom.
Other than that, I didn't do anything else.
By the way, I'm using Cataclysm rom.

Just update your TWRP to the latest version 2.3.2.1. You can easily do that via GooManager app which you can find in the Play Store
There is no specific "good" ROM, just try then decide
Good Luck

Hi,
I have GooManager installed.... When I search for TWRP 2.3.2.1 I get 2.3.2.3 version shown as available as well. It's a zip and .img file as well. Am I supposed to just download and flash it? I mean the zip file would be flashed using the current TWRP right and it will auto upgrade?
Also, What I understand is that if I have 2.3.2.1 I can install 4.2 ROMs without having to root my phone using Galaxy Nexus Toolkit V10.1 because the screenshots shows 4.2 in it?
Also to find something I have to use search place on GooManager, isnt there a list of updated list of softwares available on it? I can see ROMs etc very neatly can be seen there but not patches like these.

Please be careful with the TWRP version as 2.3.2.3 seems to be for Nexus 4 not our GNex. Follow the following steps to download and install latest TWRP for your device (2.3.2.1):
1- Run GooManager app
2- Click on the upper right 3 dots for settings
3- Click "Install OpenRecoveryScript"
4- Confirm Recovery Install --> Yes
5- Confirm download, reboot, and install --> Yes
6- A download process will start then it will be installed
7- (Optional) Reboot into recovery to ensure that TWRP is successfully installed and working.
As far as I know, you need root for GooManager app already for many functions. I never used the GNex toolkit nor have an idea which screenshots you are referring to.
I am not sure I got your last point but if you are searching for ROMs via GooManager then it is there in the first option of the app --> Browse compatible ROMs. But honestly I have never used this so can't share you any experience regarding it.
Hope this helps

Very interesting what you are describing since I do not have this issue with cm10.2 but good to know.

SlimROM's come with root, but you need to change the configuration permissions for only apps (default is apps+adb), and problem solved. Don't need to install any other root apps.
By the way, the super user configurations can be found in settings.

[Q] twrp install and dual root / unroot roms

I'm new to this stuff so apologies in advance.
I'd like to root my nexus and run/install sky go (UK TV streaming app) at the same time but sky go does not work on rooted devices. I've searched the forums and the interweb but I can't find a solution to this issue with the latest/tablet version of sky go. It seems that the root detection is quite good in this app. very annoying.
so plan B is to setup my nexus with two rom's that I can quickly interchange. One would be stock 4.4.2 unrooted and I'd use this for sky go. The second rom would be rooted and what I use day to day.
Is there any way to do this? What are the options? I am assuming that I will need to use Titanium backup (or similar) to backup data.
Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated.
second question.
I think I need to install twrp using command line method - for general rom management. It says to download the file but is this to the nexus or the computer that is connected via USB?
It also mentions to 'Run the following command via the command line: fastboot flash recovery recoveryfilename.img'. I am assuming from the computer. correct?
Thanks.
MultiROM Manager might be a good way to go. Have your primary ROM rooted and a secondary ROM installed just for Sky Go.
I'm not sure how you would be able to install a custom recovery without root on the stock ROM. What you can do though is keep the stock ROM rooted and multiboot a different ROM that does not have root built into it. (Those Roms would be the ones where you have to flash superuser)
Sent from my Nexus 7 2013
Forgive me as I'm new to this but soon as you install superuser you will not get sky go believe me I've tried all different ways it simply not gonna happen that's what stopping me from rooting my nexus !! Its a bummer for sure !!!!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Install xposed and this.
Oops, nevermind, I guess it can't cloak from Sky Go, sorry.

Rooting Stock ROM

Guys,
I need help regarding root of Stock ROM Lollipop. 5.0.
I unlocked boot loader, flashed twrp recovery but when it comes to flash rooting tools (Android revolution hd rooting tool) it does not flash and does not root the ROM. In recovery it says failed/ unable to mount cache ...
Am I doing something wrong or it the zip file which may not be compatible with stock rom?
Do you guys have any zip file which can root stock rom or the best would be if there is any rom already rooted but not modified. I like to stick to stock rom but want to get rid of bloatware.
I appreciate any advice, help or solution which may you provide to me.
Please do not ask me to search on google or XDA because I already did it and bother many people in the specific forums. As a result that they could not provide me with the solution I was forced to write in Help& Troubleshooting forum.

Don't use a tool.
Download the update SuperSU.zip from here and flash it in recovery.
After the flash, find SuperSU in your app drawer and open it. You will be prompted to update binaries. Do that.
That's it. You are rooted.

I second that. The tool used by the OP is probably not updated to work on Lollipop.
Also, OP should make sure to run an updated version of TWRP (2.8.7) as anything but the last few (several?) versions of TWRP will not work on the Lollipop hboot.

How to root Galaxy S4 SGH-M919 "M919UVUFOH3"

I'm a newbie, sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong area or in the wrong way, but I have looked all over this forum, and the Internet, looking for a root to my specifice device, but I haven't found any method that is specific to my S4 build. I have a TMoblie Galaxy S4:
- SGH-M919
- Android 4.4.4
- Baseband version: M919UVUFOH3
- Kernel version:
3.4.0-2437203
[email protected] #1
Mon Aug 24 15:32:34 KST 2015
-Build Number: KTU84P.M919UVUFOH3
- SE for Android Status:
Enforcing
SEPF_SGH-M919_4.4.4_0046
Wed Jun 24 15:11:28 2015
- Secure Boot Status
Type: Samsung
- Security Software version:
MDF v1.0 Release 3
VPN v1.4 Release 4
I think that is probably more information than you actually need. I've only been googling for a root for the
"Galaxy S4 SGH-M919 M919UVUFOH3", but I still haven't found any definitive answers. I found many references that clearly state "NOT to use a root for a different model....etc.,", and I've found references to builds for other S4 SGH-M919, but not for the "....OH3" specifically.
What I would like to do idealy is to root my device, do a Nandroid backup, and setup dual-boot with my original untouched Stock Rom (except for rooting it) with another ROM (any recommendations for a ROM based on Privacy and Security would be very appreciated).
If someone can just tell me if my device can use the same root method for a similar S4, or point me to a guide, or just give me a basic outline of the process and suggested methods specific to my device, I would be very greatful.
Any help would be greatly appreciated (sorry for the long post).

Just flash TWRP through odin then flash supersu 2.52beta.zip (recommended). Or if you have no comp near you, use kingroot then push twrp with terminal emulator. Then flash super su 2.52beta and remove all kingroot apps from system or follow guide below but still flash supersubeta.zip.

Thank you for your assistance, it is much appreciated!!!
Just some clarification please:
- I'd like to make a clean backup of my Stock Rom before altering it beyond root. If I flash TWRP I don't think I can do a Nandroid Backup and Titanium Backup to use to revert back to Stock if I ever need to? Is that correct?
- Is there a process for me to backup my stock build after getting root, but before adding a custom recovery?
Also, just to clarify, I've been looking for CF-Auto-Root for my sgh-m919 ... OH3, and although I do find CF-AUTO-ROOT for the SGH-M919, I can't find CF-AUTO-ROOT specifically for the M919UVUFOH3. Does that mean that I should not use CF-AUTO-ROOT for the other SGH-M919 builds (that is my thought, not to use CF for non "OH3" sgh-m919)?
Again, thank you for your assistance!!

OK. Im on MDL so there no Knox, but there are ways to flash custom ROMs without tripping Knox> http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/general/guide-how-to-install-custom-roms-t2852310
1st: not correct, yes you can backup your stock ROM after flashing TWRP through Odin (before or after rooting). Then you can root and use TiBu to backup apps.
2nd: Not really. Just use TWRP before you root it then back it up. Or use TiBu and save your apps then if you need to flash/odin stock again you can always reroot and restore your apps.
3rd:. You can try latest cf-auto for m919 if you want, I would just flash twrp (backup if you want/need to) then flash supersu2.52 beta though TWRP and you should be all set.
Hope this helps.

Sorry about the newbie questions.
I will install TWRP. I've dl'd the files, and I'm looking for a custom rom before I proceed.
I'm very busy at work, so my time is very limited. I really appreciate your time and expert advice.
I can't thank you enough!
Is there a way to "Dual-boot" with TWRP?
I'd like to keep my Stock ROM (not wipe anything except for the cache), and just use Carbon or can you recommend any other very lean ROM's? I'm interested in limiting permissions of apps I install and other similar privacy tweaks. Any suggestions?
Thanks again!

Just wanted to say "Thanks!" again to lordodin912. I finally did get my sgh-m919 s4 rooted using CF-AUTO-ROOT, and successfully installed MultiROM to multiboot MOKEE 5.1.1, and Dirty Unicorn 5.1.1, using the PA Pico 5.1.1 gapps, and love the lean build and performance. MultiROM is exactly what I was looking for, thank you for the link!
I'm researching on setting up the Xposed framework and the Xprivacy, and ultimately AFWall+ too, after I have checked out all the features of these two roms to ensure they're all working.
I am having a problem with the Play Store crashing within 10 seconds of opening it. I have googled the problem and most issues stem from a disabled Download Manager, in android 4.x, but I've checked and my DL mgr seems to be running and there is no "Disabled/Enabled" setting that I can find in 5.1.1 LP.
I've tried clearing the cache on Play Store and Play Services, and reinstalled gapps, and even deleted the Mokee Rom's cache, Dalvik cache, and then deleted the rom and reinstalled the rom and gapps, but Play Store still crashes within seconds of opening. I have the same problem on both ROMs. All the ROMs and gapps, are all Stable releases, nothing nightly or experimental. Everything dl'd from XDA or XDA suggested sources. Any ideas would be appreciated, again: Thanks for stepping up and helping the newbie, it is much appreciated!
