Quick Circle question - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to not allow notifications on the quickcircle, like message, etc?

Yes you can customise the apps you want to have....go to Settings/General/quickcircle case (tap it to open the apps list designed for the case) then deselect messages.
If you want more apps, download quickcircle apps from the play store.

That doesn't do it. The notifications still show

How about...
Settings > Security > Notification access
then uncheck the Quick Notifications
is this what you are looking for?

since its the desire z rom, that should work but if not.. if you have the latest version of gmail, it doesnt have the option anymore.. uninstall the update, go to settings in gmail, do what you need then update again

Here's how I set it to do "silent notifications" with the newest version of Gmail:
a) Open Gmail
b) Hit Menu > More > Settings
c) Select your email address under "Account Settings"
d) Scroll down to "Notification Settings", select "Labels to Notify"
e) Select "Inbox", select "Ringtone", set to "Silent". Hit "OK". Back out of all the menu stuff.
This way, the status bar will still let you know when you have mail (so you can check it at your leisure) but will also NOT ring annoyingly when you have mail
(Of note: This works at least through Gmail v2.3.5, which is the newest in the Market (and one version that is shipped in the GApps pack add-ons for CyanogenMod based ROMs). Pretty much one of the very first things I tend to do in setup )

That's rather odd--I'm using the latest version of Gmail available in the Market (v2.3.5) and do have that option--that said, Google seems to have made it explicitly difficult to set the thing to not ring when an email comes in (or at least non-intuitive, compared to earlier versions).
There IS a menu option to turn off notifications altogether (both ringing notifications AND in the status bar)--consists of Menu > More > Settings > Account Settings (select yer email address, if you have multiple Gmail accounts, you'll need to do this for each one), scroll down to Notification Settings, uncheck "Email Notifications".
If you merely want to turn off ringtone notifications for email (as opposed to all notifications--that is, if you don't want the thing blooping at you when you have new mail but DO want the status bar to indicate when you have mail) this gets more complex: Menu > More > Settings > Account Settings (per account) > scroll down to Notification Settings > Labels to Notify > Inbox > set Ringtone to "Silent". (There is also a checkbox for "Email notifications" in that same section that you can use to turn off the status bar notification--if for some reason you want it to bloop at you but NOT notify you in the status bar.)
(I am in the "Non Blooping For Email" camp, and with the newest version of Gmail this gave me minor fits until I played with it a bit and found out how to do it )
Thank you for the replies everyone. It was rather unintuitive but at least its possible

For some apps, I do not receive any notifications, until I open the app

Hi,
As stated in the title, for some apps (for me it's Wordfeud, Gtasks, Slack, but I've searched and seen that other apps can ben concerned, WhatsApp for instance), I do not receive any notifications, until I open the app and discover that there is something new.
How can I solve this ?
Thanks for your help.
I answer to myself because this solved it in my case :
- go to "Manage apps" (on the launcher, left side zone, choose "Manage apps"
- choose the application you want notifications from
- uncheck "Restrict to launch"
You may try disabling Battery Optimization for the selected apps.

Messages app notification sound settnigs

Cannot find option te set notification sound in messages app settings. It is possible in general device sound settings but causes the same notification sound in all apps. Is it solution ?
Open your message app
Next tap on the person message you want to customize the notification sound
Next tap on the 3 dots on the top right corner and select custom notification and tap one more time to enter the customized field
There look for sound
Thats it
Hope this helps
Unfortunately when you delete a thread with an individual where you have set a custom sound, the sound goes back to default.
You can also use Textra App. Amazing UI and customization with that app. Support Dev with pro version to unlock other useful features.
Only if you don't use RCS (well I can't find anywhere that third party apps support it).
If your looking to change the message app notification sound it self then do this

Yes that's it.
I didn't notice in first look that "new messages" and "general notifications" could be double tapped with further possibility to set sounds.
Thanks for that and for previous posts as well.

ADB disable app settings

I am trying to disable notifications on all app:s except 4.
And I am also trying to disable battery optimization on the 4 apps.
How can I list settings on a specific app? Like i do with "adb shell settings list system"
Any one having ideas to make it work?
Samsung S20 SM-980F
Thanks
Just go to the apps info page on the phone and you can change permissions and notifications from there
Long press the app shortcut and hit the (i) information icon or access it from settings > apps

Question Little dots on Apps missing on new messages

Hi there!
I don't know how they are called in the english original, but on my P6P I really miss the little dots e.g. on the Mail App when there are new messages.
In my options it has this option and it is on, but there aren't any of these dots. I really miss them, cause so you always have to pull down to see where there's something new when you are already using your phone.
Anyone a conclusion for me?
In the GMail app? I can't picture the dots.
That's called "Notification dot on app icon" and can be found in System Settings --> Notifications, down near the bottom.
It can also be turned on and off on a per-application basis by going into the application specific notification settings at System Settings --> Notifications --> App settings --> {whatever}, and switching on/off the option to "Allow notification dot" at the bottom.
But personally, I dislike this "feature". If the application notifies you, then why not click it instead of running around through your menus trying to find the one with the dot?
Thank you for the right name of what I'm looking for
But no I don't run around looking for these dots, I just open the phone and mostly there are WhatsApp or Mail news and I always have to look inside to see if there's anything new when I don't want to swipe down for my notifications.
The Settings are all set, but there are no dots for me!
Don't know if this matters, but I use the Nova Launcher.

You need to allow notification access in Nova for the dots or badges to appear. Go into Nova settings > Notification Badges and then tap the message at the bottom of your screen to enable read access to notifications.
You can also check if notifications have been disabled by going into System Settings > Notifications > Device and App Notifications and checking if Nova is enabled or disabled.
The hint with the settings brought me to the solution I think. It seems you need Nova Launcher Prime for the dots
