[Q] Upgrade Software on Unlocked AT&T LG G3 - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have searched and haven't found any info on how to do this, so please bear with me.
I recently purchased an AT&T LG G3 with the intention of unlocking it and putting it on T-Mobile. I unlocked it and it is now, for the most part, functioning. There are only a few issues: my MMS doesn't work at all and it has all of the AT&T stuff pre-installed. I wan't to download and install the base KitKat kernal on my phone, but I don't know where to get it and I don't want to risk bricking my phone.
So my questions for you are these:
1. Where can I get the base kernal for the LG G3?
2. Will installing that kernal cause any problems with my phone?
3. Are there any suggestions for something else I can do?
Thank you all!

How are you planning on flashing anything on a d850??

You cannot flash anything on the D850, because the bootloader is still locked. The kernel is stock so there is no need for change. Check your apn settings to see if there is a T-mobile apn, Google is your friend if it is not there.

The bootloader on this phone isn't stock. It has the AT&T boot logo, AT&T bloatware, and some AT&T configurations in the settings.

Your bootloader is locked. Sell your d850 and buy the d851

That is stock D850 from AT&T.
Unless you figured out a way to unlock the bootloader, which, someone asking these kinds of questions wouldn't be able to..

I'm new to this, but I'm not incompetent. I found this tutorial www dot androidrootz dot com/2014/07/how-to-unroot-lg-g3-all-variants dot html, my only question now is if I install the T-Mobile firmware will it in anyway damage the device?

Can't flash anything other than stock at&t firmware unless you wanna brick your device

I think what they are trying to tell you is:
1. only T-Mobile G3's have unlocked boot loaders
2. so only T-mobiles can be rom flashed
3. AT&T boot-loaders are locked, so you can not flash the rom.

Lol the irony. So he/she bought the at&t phone that comes with a locked boot loader (nothing to do with root) and wants to put it on T-Mobile that already have unlocked bootloader? Lmao... Read read and understand what you are asking before talking back to people that are trying to help you.

icon sets defined in build.prop not the bootloader. If you had bothered to look around here you would have seen at least two methods to change them back to stock. As for bloat, that is not bootloader either, just system apps.

Seems like you are very, very, very new. A bit less self confidence and more humility will help.

[Q] Can Cyanogen be installed on the AT&T version(Already unlocked)

hi guys,
Kindly advice if the E980 AT&T version (which is already unlocked) be flashed with another ROM. Will flashing any other ROM reactivate the Lock or create any other bootloader related issues????
I am planning to buy the At&T version from Ebay and the seller says its already unlocked. but i definitely want to update it asap and am unsure of LG's updates.
I live in India and the phone is from AT&T USA(Unlocked).
Sorry for a such a simple question.......but pardon my ignorance.

I think whoever you bought the phone from means it's NETWORK unlocked so it can be used on any carrier. You'll probably have to go through the steps of installing a custom recovery before you can flash other ROMs.

Thanks Neroga. Yeah you are right its Network Unlocked and I will have to install the Recovery(I guess its got to be the Lokified recovery).
My only concern was if the Network lock would get reactivated due to the installation of a new recovery or a new rom etc. and I have got my answer that it will not get reactivated by any such tweaks.

Hey there, I am thinking of getting the same unlocked phone. Are you getting it from the "merawireless" seller located in Kolkata? Let me know how the product is when you receive it.
Thanks.

[Q] Unlocked LG G3 Question

I have never unlocked a phone so I apologize if this is a dumb question, but if have a T-Mobile G3 but am on ATT will installing a Rom for ATT model brick my phone or do I use D851 Roms and change APN settings to make it work?

Flashing a rom for a diferent model will brick your device. Flashing a rom (in generally - e.g. CyanogenMod) will not affect the carrier (sim/net) lock. If your phone is sim/net locked you need a valid unlock code to use it with another carrier's sim.
Thank you and sorry for the question here I realized they asked to have questions placed in Q&A section I won't do it again.

do you understand your own question? Are you talking about sim unlocked phone? You are sim unlocked at this moment because you are on ATT. Are you asking about rooting your phone then? The bootloader is not locked on TMO G3. But like the answer given, you can not install a rom on an TMO phone that is not specifically developed that TMO phone. I have TMO G3 and swapped over to ATT several months ago. I was running a custom rom well before I switched to ATT but its a rom developed for TMO G3.
I suggest a lot of education before going down the rooting path and custom roms.
I have flashed a AT&T Rom on my T-Mobile phone. I had to flash the T-Mobile kernel after flashing the Rom, but it did work. I also had to go and configure the apn
I've done this on other phones, but have been scared to try it on my G3. No offense, but I need someone with more then 4 posts to verify this

You should probably ask in the questions section. You can find official firmware in sammobile or updato (Google search)

Yea it does. I also need to downgrade to sum unlock since tmo is screwing me around.
Downgrading will allow network unlocking using a free method?
As far as I recall, there is no way to force a bootloader downgrade from mm to kk.

I'm not on MM I'm on LP 5.0.2
My mistake, I meant to say LP, not mm as I know the note 3 never received mm from Samsung.

How do I network unlock then? Do I need just the baseband or how do I go about it? Tmo is lying and jacking me around and I'm poor n can't afford a unlock that costs
Flashing different bootloaders or modems will not sim unlock the phone. The cheapest method I know of to unlock would be to buy an unlock code via eBay.

What I'm asking is can I flash the baseband for 4.4.2 and do the service menu unlock as I would if on stock 4.4.2?
I have never heard of a service menu unlock method for the note 3. Do you have a link?

That's my plan for the unlock is the service menu unlock. Can you please get me the KK modem/baseband to perform it please? Or a working link to the modems foe n900t for kk?
Do you have a link to the service menu unlock method? I've never heard of one.
There was a service menu unlock method for the s3 and possibly the s4 but never heard of one for the note 3.
The stock kk modem would be found in the kk stock ROM which can be downloaded from Sammobile.com.
Before flashing anything, I would confirm that such an unlock method works. Playing around with the service menu can wreak havoc with a phone.

I can't use sammobile. I don't have the patience to sit n sign up for it plus out takes, ungodly time,to download anything lol. Would, you or anyone have the files needed on deck? Say Android host sites or a,Google drive maybe?
You could search the general threads for the files you need. Not sure if they are there, but the 4.4.2 service menu may need a 4.4.2 bootloader? If the phone had a 5.0 bootloader, you may not be able to downgrade the bootloader.
How do you use the service menu to network unlock?
I never had a T-Mobile note 3, only the Canadian note 3.

*#0011# I'm guessing. I need the mj2 baseband or before and only the baseband. I have a s8 plus and a s5 but I needs this unlocked so I can resell for more
Are you aware of anyone who successfully unlocked using the service menu? If there was such a method, it probably would have been posted on XDA.

I've only seen and done it myself on a Samsung S II (hercules) on stock firmware and read that it was available on other similar Samsung phones but I never tried it on the Note 3 as I thought Samsung eliminated that option (even though it was pretty hidden)
The option was also available for the s3 on 4.1.1 but it has never been done with any note 3 on any version of the stock ROM afaik.

Is "SM-N920T" Firmware ok, on a "SM-N920A" Phone ?

Hey guys, just had a question. I have a SM-N920A phone. Will it brick my phone if i flash it through ODIN with "N920TUVS5ERC1" thats meant for the SM-N920T Tmobile Note 5. I hate the AT&T bloatware and would like to have the Tmobile Version of the Note 5. Just not sure if the Tmobile Firmware will brick my AT&T phone. Will it work ?
Thanks guys

It will not work. Locked bootloader for AT&T signed software. Maybe it will flash but virtually no chance it will boot. Even if it did boot, there most likely won't be any cell service.
Oh ok, i see. Yeah you problaly need the same basebands or something for the firmware to work. Well, thanks i appreciate it
If you did get it to boot, using an unlocked modem firmware would be the trick to getting cell service again.
Please, please, don't flame me if I bumped this as it's been inactive for a while... but I wanted to know if there was any progress with this?
I also have a Note 5 N920A that I'd basically like to make into a N920T. I understand that the bootloader is unlocked, but where keys exist, is there not a way to unlock it? I've been out of the development community for quite a while and will catch up a little but I hope someone would have time enough to explain a little.
I unlocked this phone and use it on T-mobile but it doesn't get service where the almost identical T-mobile version of the phone does...
What if I left the bootloader alone and just wanted to take full advantage of T-Mobile's LTE bands? Can I just flash an unlocked modem from _____?
What're the workaround options for this?
Please and thanks in advance
I've been searching for the answer to the same, if not similar, question. I'm trying to find a way or work-around to get T-mobile wifi calling to work.

Sprint SM-A505U Odin flash T-mobile SM-A505U1

I am thinking about buying a SM-A505U that is locked to Sprint network. Anyone know if I can just use ODIN to flash SM-A505U1 T-mobile firmware to get it to work on T-mobile? I am hearing from other people that the Sprint variant currently does not work on T-Mobile out of box and that they are paying for carrier unlock services to get it to work. While I know carrier unlock is an option, I also reads somewhere that it may be possible to flash the t-mobile firmware and that would essentially turn it into a t-mobile phone and lock it to t-mobile (Which I am Okay with). Where as a carrier unlock service would allow me to use any sim.
Anyone know if this is feasible? Is there an actual hardware difference between the SM-505U and SM-505U1? Or is it purely software?
