[Q] One M8 on EE - OTA update 2.26.61.1 (4.4.3) - Battery Issues? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
so yesterday my phone updated to version 4.4.3, before this update the battery life on this one was nothing short of amazing (esp compared to my one x before) i could use it on and off all day and get home from work with 60ish % remaining.
since this update my phone seems to be eating battery like no tomorrow, it has only been off charge for 2 hours and i have not used it, just checked it and im down to 60% already...
yesterday afternoon i had to plug it in as it was in the red (14%)
has anyone else noticed this? is there an easy way to roll back without rooting? (warrentys and the like prevent me from rooting it)
Cheers
Daz

No way returning to the old version without unlocking/rooting it (with s-off its easy to return to 100% stock though)
But i would back up what you need and perform a factory reset. That is the first thing you can try to resolve the issue.

Have you tried any of the standard things like wiping cache/factory reset?
You could install a battery monitor to see if there are any clues as to whats using up the battery:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gsamlabs.bbm

yes good point a factory reset would be the clear choice, will do that in a mo and see if that helps

Just make sure any data you want is backed up first. You wont lose anything on your external sd card unless you chose to erase it, but you will lose your apps/accounts/settings. I would expect this should clear out anything causing issues, good luck.

I have exactly the same battery drain and the phone is always hot now so its doing something..
Let me know how the factory reset goes..

How did the reset go? I installed the update on Friday night and my phone has been running hot since then.

Just to update on this (sorry for the slow response!) finally managed to get round to a reset and that has solved the issue, battery life is now back up,
the battery monitor before the reset was just saying that the kernal was using most power.... never found out the cause though!
Cheers

I have the same problem with 4.4.3.
How you have solved the issue?

Battery monitor apps, like my favorite Gsam, are pretty useless without root... To see the wakelocks.
Just an FYI. ?

Full reset resolved it for me.

[Q] Help if you can, thanks

I've had my I747 at&t now for 6 months, about 2 weeks ago It started shutting down on me on it's own, at that time I was rooted and had a custom rom installed that was working perfect. It was the HighOnAndroid ROM v0.3 from galaxys3root.com. There were no problems at all until 2 weeks ago too. So I used Kies to factory restore and upgrade to1747UCDLK3 to see if it was my rom I I had installed. My phone works now, but I have a problem with the battery I can't figure out.
here's what it does, I charge my battery at the end of the day to 100% and turn it off, then the next morning it's always down to around 70% even though it is off all night. It didn't do this before at all, have you had this issue or can give me some advice? thank you
Edit...FYI I use this phone on Straight Talk and have reformatted my 32 gig sd too just to start clean.

I never used the plain stock with Keis update. I would normally just suggest to just flash it again. Are you opposed to rooting again and installing a customer recovery or do you want to stay completely stock ?

No, I liked it rooted....just trying to figure out what happened. I just don't understand how the battery can drain that much if the phone is off. I may reroot of I can get past this part, It's seems to run down no matter which rom is on it.
I would reccomend gsam battery monitor and cpuspy. That should help determine the problem. It helped me when I had a similar issue.

Powered off or sleeping?
If you physically turn the phone off (not just sleep mode), then something is up with the battery.
Try powering to 100% charge, then discharge all the way down to 5%. Then charge to 100% again and see if that helps.
My phone was only ever able to charge to 70% for a few days. A complete discharge was able to fix it for me.

It's shutting down, but i cant say I've ever let it get down to 5%, I just top it off. I did charge it to 100% one night , remove the battery and reinstalled it the next morining, It was still 99% by leaving it out of the phone, go figure, I 'll try your tips too

[Q] Cyanogenmod M9 Battery issue

I flashed the M9 snapshot of Cyanogenmod yesterday evening. It installed with no problems. I restored my apps just like I always have, with TM. All seemed fine. Everything was working as expected. I charged the phone to about 90%, unplugged it & went to bed. At around 3:30AM the phone woke me up with a low battery warning. It was at 3%. My phone has never been that low. I usually use C-Rom or the Sprint 4.4.2 port with no problems. Any ideas?
You probably restored something that's not compatible in that version. Check your battery logs and use Better Battery Stats to hunt down the cause.
I'm kind of curious if you ever found the cause to this. I'm getting ready to flash M9 myself, but if it's gonna do a battery drain I won't bother.
Just clean flashed M9 (after doing a "super nuke" - wipe cache, dalvik, system, data, data media) and have been up and running for about 1/2 hour. Phone goes into deep sleep no problem. I'll keep an eye on it for the next while and will report back.
@patcal: I think Doc might be right on this one; though, I do recommend Better Battery Stats to help determine what's going on.

To be honest, I did not try to find out. Since I never had this happen with any other rom, I just went back to the Sprint port for now. I may try again in a few days.
Actually, now I'm finding that 3/4 of my time is in deep sleep and 1/4 is at 1500MHz. BBS isn't really telling me anything so I don't know what's going on.
I know the latest nightly is pretty stable so I'm going to upgrade to that.
Well, I loaded M9 last night with no issues. However, I always leave my T999L plugged in overnight to charge, and unplug it to use with my coffee in the morning. Well, I unplugged it about 40 minutes ago and it was at full charge. Now I'm down to 69%.
So I'd say this is a confirmation of a battery drain issue with M9. @op did you report it to Cyanogenmod yet?
Has anyone else tried M9 and found a battery issue?

I did not. I was going to try flashing again this weekend without restoring my apps. If it was one of my apps I would probably just wait for another release.
I ended up dirty flashing the 08/06 nightly over the M9 - no more battery drain. So, I highly recommend the 08/06 nightly.
Thanks for the info. I just got done re-flashing M8 and re-configuring my phone and apps again on that. I'll likely try out the nightly you suggested on Monday or next week sometime.
Unless there's a way to keep track of home screen settings in Titanium Backup between flashes? Anytime I try to blanket restore system settings it makes the phone hang at the loading screen.
EDIT: Figured out how to backup my home screen configuration, so I might do it this weekend, but I'm done for now. 2 resets so close together is enough for me for now.

Physical battery question - trying to trouble shoot issue!

So basically I am running eragon 6.7 (dirty flash from 6.6~, was a clean install before that) and I have just started to have an issue which I am trying to trouble shoot!
So I upgraded my phone to this version AND dropped it on concrete on the same day so unsure as to what one caused the issue...... but basically since these events my phone won't charge over a certain point (on 3 different chargers/plugs/USB ports). Initially it wouldn't go over 42% and then I wiped the cache and squeezed the battery shield and magically (or coincidentally) it started to charge up to 92% but no higher. With normal use today I went from 92% down to 15 in under 9 hours!!!!!!
Looking at my battery stats it is showing as fine, normal voltage and no issues.
ALSO when browsing the web I noticed that the top of the phone (above the battery, by the camera and top metal edge/screen gets REALLY hot - this doesn't seem to happen when I have bluetooth, music, GPS and maps all open at once though.
So my symptoms are slow charge that won't go to 100%, QUICK depletion, HOT phone when browsing the web/screen on (above the battery) but my battery stats read all OK. Could the battery be at fault here still or is it likely to be another piece of HW damaged in the fall or could it be a flash/eragon related issue (doubt it).
I have stripped the phone down and removed the battery and can see that the bottom edge/underside of the battery's wrapper is 'crinkled' and malleable to the touch (but this may just be the wrapper), also the battery's bottom ~1cm is everso slightly curved upwards. Can anyone confirm if this is normal please? and if the battery wrapper is normally 'skin tight' against it or is some movement along the bottom edge normal?
I would really appreciate any help as I am currently sitting with a dismantled phone in-case I get any suggestions!
Thanks and apologies for the lengthy first post.
I would bet that it's certainly the fall that has caused these issues as the ROM has not changed that much, you can always go back to older ROM if you want to know for sure! I have not opened my phone yet so can't answer your other questions but perhaps someone else might be able to confirm this for you soon. Good luck!
Thanks for the reply, that's what I am thinking!
Update - I upgraded (dirty flash) to eragon 7 and issue still persists, I don't know if it's worth ordering/waiting for a battery only to find that it's another component that's gone or to just scrap it and get a new phone (oneplus 2 most probably)
Well, for the price and with the Eragon ROM the p8000 is very good value. The oneplus2 is a lot more expensive so you would hope that it's worth the extra money

Update
So I upgraded to Eragon 7.0 and now the phone is charging to 100% but still draining very quickly!
Strange.... could this be linked to the Rom afterall?
Can you flash a stock Rom and see how that goes?

That was going to be my next try but before I did that I done a backup with Titanium, full wipe, clean install of 7.0 and a restore and I think this may have actually resolved my issue!!!!! the phone is currently saying 68% with 13 hours approx left!

Issues with partial resets after GPE conversion

Hi guys
Recently I converted my HTC One M8 to Google Play Edition, after achieving S-Off. I really liked it, but there was one major issue every time my battery would die, after switching the phone back on, some of the apps (mainly stock) and settings would reset to default. Also battery indication became really bad, most of the time it dies indicating 20-25%. So after trying factory resets couple of times without any improvement, I decided to go back to stock Sense. I did it successfully, updated to marshmallow... but the issue with app and settings reset after battery dies still persist, as well as poor battery indication. Just wanted to ask if any of you had similar issue? is there any way to fix it? would be good to know, cause I really love this phone, especially since they keep updating it, would be a shame to sell it as faulty and get some ****ty mid-ranger as I don't have enough money for a flagship beast atm. Thank you in advance, guys.

Hey there
Have you tried doing a full cache clear / wipe / stock RUU installation? This sounds like the battery is no longer holding charge, and is actually precisely what my old Blackberry did once the battery was in its dying throes. Hopefully this is not the case with yours, and simply some funky issue lurking in the depths of your device

Sorry for the double post-- It looks like, on some searching on my own, that the batterystats files can have something to do with your phone displaying the wrong % / being async with actual battery life. There are multiple ways to rebuild / wipe this file, though I cannot walk you through it currently as I haven't had to do it myself yet. Give this a look, maybe it'll help

thanks, man. I tried to re-calibrate my battery by discharging and recharging to 100% without switching it on, repeated couple of times, no help. but i can live with faulty battery indication, the real problem is setting up all those apps and settings that reset every time battery dies... it's very uncomfortable, I even stopped setting stuff up, just keep it on default for now....

My battery is dying :(

Hello everyone. I think my Butterfly 3 battery is dying. Does anyone know how to reset the battery gauge if this is possible? I've searched for a replacement battery all over the internet but with no luck. A link is also ok. Regards.

So I'm not trying to self promote... ok, maybe a little. What you need is a factory reset and perhaps a reversion to true factory software.
I had trouble with battery life with my japanese rom, and a lot more stuff was messed up too.
Follow my guide and feel free to ask any questions, this is the straight from the factory rom, ZERO bloatware, only cost is NFC. (Make sure you make backup with twrp and store on your PC)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/butterfly-3/development/stock-rom-stock-5-0-2-cure-t3356875
With stock it runs super efficiently with the standard power saver making this beast last the entire day no sweat.

I didn't. Simply the problem appeared after I installed the taiwanese rom. Now i received marshmallow and everything is ok.
By the way with the taiwanese rom everything works like a charm, text included, and bloatware can be uninstalled. You'll only lose nfc.
