[Q] Should I get it? - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Currently have the S3 on Verizon. Upgrading to the Note 4 seems nice. Things I will miss include the unlocked bootloader that I highly doubt the Note 4 will ever get, and I doubt it will get safestrap either. My other concern is the current method of rooting the Note 4 (Yes, there is already a way. Unfortunately, it will trip knox and void warranty, where as on the S3 you could use Odin to flash stock image and fully reset it. Will there be evolved root exploits? Input needed, thank you.

My opinion, Note 4 is the best to date device. It's so fast that you probably can live without custom rom for awhile. By then, we should have root and able to enjoy more customization. To tell the truth, after a few years from now, I think custom rom will be obsolete or limited due to unbreakable locked bootloader.... unless some magical thing happened and they decided not to lock boot loader anymore.

I understand the desire for custom roms and/root but custom Roms will no doubt impact one of the main reasons to have a note, the s pen. I say get it if you are okay having sick phone, but ultimately they will have at least a safe root for it. They did for Note 3.

Yeah. I am getting this phone because of the features. I was impressed with the S5 but couldn't go without the note 3 screen size. Now I get the best of both worlds. Between the water proof and an otterbox that makes the phone a little more ruggid for my line of work. I will miss my Xposed modules until there is root!

wait man.note4 has just arrived.it takes time to do other method.wait till some days.will be there someone who migth be working on it

Droid Turbo seems promising. It's all on you. I want the Note 4. I've owned the Note 3 twice, and got rid of it cuz of how sluggish it was. (Bit of a perfectionist) The demo Note 4 seems responsive enough for me and Touchwiz looks a bit better this time around.

I read that the turbo won't have expandable storage, which is so close to a deal-breaker for me

Ok, honeymoon's over and I'm falling in love MORE deeply.

To the community -
This device is frikkin' SA-WEEEEEET!
I'm now starting to have this thing truly mastered (Touch Wiz, that is...I came from Motoblur) and the speed of this cpu is truly astonishing.
I LOVE MY GN2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(Sent from the hands down best device yet: the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, using XDA Premium. Ahh, the JOY of GREAT DESIGN, hard-, firm-, and soft-ware included!!!)
we all feel ya!
Came from the razr maxx myself. I feel the same way. Truly amazing phone!
Why it's the door on the right always locked?
Amazing phone indeed. I am coming from a One S, and I must say I miss some features from Sense, but Touchwiz ain't bad. I don't need need to root.
Came from Galaxy S3, which is also a great phone, but I like this phone way more. Bigger screen, faster, multi Window etc etc
Came from gs3 then iphone 5 and this phone is sooo amazing. I usually get bored with phones always wanting something better but I haven't had that feeling one time since buying this on release day.

came from s2, and just bought it today. .. can't wait to find out what its all about...

I've been a tech and computer junky for most of my 34 years, and this device has wowed me more than anything else I've ever built or purchased.
And to think, we're just getting started with the mobile revolution...
The honeymoon period won't even begin to end for me until something, anything makes this phone feel slow or out of date.

SO this is tmobile gn2 forums. anyone have recommendation on ROMS for the sgh-t889? I LIKE my note 2, but i cant love it unless i can fine tune it with a ROM that will allow me to get rid of the tmo bloat but RETAIN the use of the SPEN. I have tried hyperdroid which i thought was fantastic, uses the resolution of the screen as it should be used (icons, fonts etc) but it rendered my SIM card as "undetected" and disabled the SPEN altogether (which is wierd because Samapps where already loaded)
So, what ROMS are you guys using, what is it lacking or, which one is perfect for tmo sgh-t889?
This is the first phone I've not installed a rom on. Touchwiz has VASTLY improved, imo. I did still root it and uninstall some bloatware, though.

Bloatware. This thing cant't bloat!
Have you modded Multi Window so you can put in any app? That alone is reason to root this device and have a proper version of what Multi Window should do....
But on the whole, Touch Wiz is fine. I like it.
(But the speed, the speed of it, man!)

Jedi Master 8 is the best Rom around. Super fast and stable. Definitely worth a try. When you root, install TWRP recovery and do a nandroid to be safe. You won't be sorry if you flash it right!
Couldn't agree more. Ive owned dozens of phones and tablets dating back to the 90's and I've never loved a device like this. Samsung is freakin magic.

[Q] Is note 10.1 same as note 3 when it comes to knox and rooting?

Hi,
Is it same problem with note 10.1 if you root? The Knox status is changed?
I had first notes and now I have note 3. I really need note 10.1 for school as I write much with spen in classes instead of papper.
But i really hate my Note 3 as I want to root to just remove samsung bloatware and use adblock.
Thanks

It's the same. I rooted my Note 3, and Note 10.1, removed Knox apps, and did some debloating, and other minor tweaks. I'm happy with the results, so far.

note 10.1 is a tone down note 3 and missing quite a number of features from note 3, the most significant one is the usb 3.0 is missing thus the charging is not as quick as note 3, no nfc, no improve touch sensitivity toggle and no temperature sensor.
But knox is a pain in the ass same as note 3.
Ohh
Thansk guys.
I will not buy this then.
Don't know if there will be a nexus 10 anytime soon.
Yeah battery charging time was aweful on my old note 10.1 and slow after just some months use. Didn't help how many times you reset or clean etc.. Never tried custom rooms.
I am now not a samsung lover^^ I want freedom we had and better products for our needs and not sammy needs. We should get what we want not what they want to sell us.
And I don't know which tablet to get. Any one have a recomendation for me? A tablet that makes you feel good with it and not outdated alleredy after one month. A fast one for school mainly for reading books and taking notes, and watch movies on the go^^
Sorry for my nice English

To be clear, the 10.1 can be rooted, and the knox files, can be removed. You will trip the knox counter, when a recovery is installed, and there is no way to reverse the tripped counter. The tablet is perfectly functional, after rooting, and tripping the counter.

This Note or the TF701 if you want a 10" 2560x1600 screen, or a cheaper Nexus10. The next Nexus tablet will surely be sweet, whatever it may be. If you're looking at Windows tablets too, there are lots of decent BayTrail-based ones with full Windows8.1 released now or coming soon, though none with anything higher than 1080p screens yet.
Asus is strict about bootloader unlock = voided warranty, worse than Samsung I guess. You just have to risk it!
Sorry if this is a noob question but from which firmware version did Samsung begin to have the restrictive Knox bootloader that trips the Knox flag? I just bought the 2014 Note 10.1 for the wifey as a Christmas present and I want to root the tablet but also don't want any potential warranty issues.

I'm not 100% sure of your question, but all of the Note 10.1 2014 versions have Knox, and as far as I know, all of the Note 3s. The Note 2s are receiving updates to android 4.3, and for the first time, on the Note 2, Knox is being introduced. So I'm guessing Samsung is using 4.3, to introduce Knox. I can't speak for the S4, and Knox.

My Note came pre installed with MK1 and in Settings, it says SELinux is Enforcing. So if I root my Note, it will probably set off the Knox trigger. This just sucks.
As for the GS4, Samsung began doing this crap starting with the 4.3 update (MJA for the Sprint gs4).

Still worth picking up a note 3

Looking for new toy AMD I've always been intrigued by the note 3. Was considering grabbing one from T-Mobile is it still worth it ? Sure they will be announcing the note 4 soon .
I currently have the nexus 5 and like it but crave a bigger screen .
Is there root for the note 3

You're at the half way point. Have a phone that's been half a year out... or wait half a year for the Note 4. Your call.
Yes, there's root out. It's XDA after all.

Wait for note 4 boot loader / Knox situation . if it's locked and Knox situation has not changed then either get a note 3 or stay away from Samsung all together . note 4 will have that dual WiFi antenna thing which is the only feature worth getting other wise I do t see them slapping 4 g of ram of 64 GB memory . faster CPU is useless and redundant as of now specially the way google is lowering requirement for their OS. The wrap around screen thing is useless to me because my phone is always encased
OP I was in the exact situation as yours. I've been using Nexus 5 and wanting to get a bigger screen, namely a Note. I weighed in the current trend, and am convinced that Samsung isn't gonna make Note 4 super interesting, so i decided to get a Note 3.
So far I am not disappointed. Touch Wiz has matured and there is no need to deviate from stock based ROMs.

Samsung has been crap this year. I really wouldn't have my hopes up for their next upcoming flagship. After all, it's just a phone. I waited a whole year for the damn s5 and it turned out to be a disappointment. I got the note 3 instead, and I totally recommend it. It will feel huge at first, but you will eventually adapt to the point of no return. After all, it's just a phone.
Just picked up the note 3 ....um wow just wow

Awww my good friend. Do it, do it, it'll make you feel good good good.
Really, do yourself a favor and get the 3. I did last month and oh boy, everything is great and no you don't really need to root, I did because I can't live without Viper audio and cerberus and remove bloat to clear up memory, ( not just disable them). Using a custom rom, it was wicked but I've changed to hyper drive rom, both fantastic. So long story short get it, and become happy for ever, until next year at lease.
Or do as I did and get the Note 3 and pay the extra $ for Jump! and when the Note 4 comes out switch

Had it since day one and there is nothing better out there now. No S5, HTC One (M8) or IPhone can beat this beauty and the beast phone. Only the Note 4 can surpass it when it comes out.
You will not regret getting a Note 3. May want to wait till S5 comes out in case you can get a Gear watch bundled for cheap if interested in it.

I kinda agree that there really isn't anything out there better yet. I mean things like 2k display (not needed and bigger battery drain) 2gb ram is a step backwards, and no stylus (if you use it) and the Snap Dragon 801 is only 200mhz faster with the same gpu. So at the minimum I probably wouldn't even look til the 805 SoC came out or 64 bit (which isn't even needed yet).
That not even mentioning someone has to come up with something really innovative or significantly better like the isocell with OIS. At this point, we're really at a point of saturation.

Alright, Tell it to me straight. :)

I am between purchasing a Nexus 6 and a Galaxy Note 4 in December, currently leaning towards a Nexus 6.
But this is the deal, because of my employer, I will not be able to root my phone. Yeah, I know there are some xposed modules that can hide root, but everytime my work apps update then I'd have to wait for the xposed module to update and basically don't want to deal with that. So my question is, how is the Note 4 stock unrooted? I've heard some negative commentary regarding TW lagging. I'm also concerned about waiting forever for the Android L update. So basically, Android L and lagging are the two biggest reasons I'm leaning towards a Nexus, but I definitely want to do my due dilligence in hearing user feedback regarding lagging, specifically with TW.
Thanks all.
PS. I had to switch to an iPhone earlier in the year due to a work agreement, but now I'm allowed to go to Android if I want, so can't wait to be back.

I ran unrooted for two weeks, and performance was fine. The only reason I finally rooted was to kill the ads in some of the apps I use. Personally I have no issues with TW, not laggy at all and I think it adds some useful functions.
I think the choice comes down to features. Can you do without an SD card, removable battery and fingerprint sensor? If so, then having pure android and fast updates may be worth it. Since I keep 50 gigs of media on my card and use the fingerprint sensor it was an obvious choice
I've only experienced lag since I rooted and installed xposed, there's a fix now, but if you're unrooted it shouldn't be an issue. The only reason I rooted this time was to kill the home button wake feature and take advantage of greenify.
Thanks guys. Makes me wonder if the people citing lag issues are just anti Samsung. I think it will come down to how it feels in the hand. The sd card isn't a big deal since I'll subscribe to Google Music.
Personally, I want Android Lollipop pretty bad, but I think where the Note 4 has a lead is that the features support the size of the phone better than the Nexus, which is just huge.
Note 4 has am SD card n removable battery nexus gets direct updates ...

I haven't. It looks cool but I get a little scared of gimmicks like that.
Looks like the Nexus 6 is getting some pretty unfavorable reviews and played around with a Note 4 at Sprint this evening. I think I'm leaning towards the Note now.
My reasons for getting the Note 4 over the Nexus 6 is features. The Nexus 6 is a big screen phone but the Note 4 is really a phablet.
No multi window, fingerprint scanner, no S-Pen and no S-Health features.
Would love lollipop but otherwise very happy with the Note 4
I've read some great reviews about the nexus 6. I couldn't give up my note, though. The multi window and the s pen are a must for me now. I think there's always somebody who complains about lag on every phone. The only lag on this phone that bugs me (3/10) is when I click the recent apps button. It's a 2 second lag. I can count it every time. I'm just getting used to it because of the 1000 other reasons I love the phone.

ofc it is.. you dont need root for the phone to run beautiful, i never rooted mine, and it's' flawless, even tho mine is international unbranden F version
It's worth it. I'm using the ATT Note 4 and yeah, there's what I mentioned above, but the phone is fully usable and runs pretty great. Battery life is pretty good, it has more cpu power than you'd probably actually need, and the phone is pretty fast. Lollipop is a bit of a hiccup though, but we should be getting 5.1.1 soon, which will fix many bugs, and Samsung has already announced that Note 4 will be getting Marshmallow.
Also, you can disable most bloatware via the system. What can't be disabled can be done via a command line prompt using a computer. Super easy to do (I've done it; search this forum for "debloat").
No root =/= Note 4 is horrible.
