Unless you root and mod the sound is required. There was a law passed that says the provider nor manufacturer can make it so the sound can be disabled. The reason being is so you can't be one of these creepers in the malls taking pictures without permission.

There is an app called "enforced stream silencer" that does not require root. Maybe thus will work I will know at 9 am tomorrow and report back!

I believe if all of your volumes are down, you won't hear it.

Root it
Install xposed installer
There is an xposed app called Wanam that will let you tweak pretty much anything.

Enforced stream silencer tested and works

phone volume off/vibrate silences camera shutter

Wanam doesn't work to disable shutter sound. I just tried.
Some of the Wanam settings do jot work with the Note 4.

^^^^ This worked perfectly for me too.

You can also change the name of the shutter.ogg file in system settings using root explorer which worked for me

The camera shutter sound option in the camera settings menu is a csc feature which only gets enabled if your carrier & country code has it. The actual setting checkbox can be added by a rom dev along with a lot of other options throughout the phone. When I get around to rooting my new Note 4 I plan to get to work on making a custom stock rom with all the bells & whistles including the camera shutter sound menu option. I'm coming from the Note 2. Things will soon pick up for the Note 4 develop section.

Device/System/csc/feature.xml. In feature.xml edit the line in the camera section, "shutter sound menu" from false to true. Reboot the phone. You will then have an option to enable/disable the shutter sound in the Camera apps menu . You must be rooted and use something like es file Explorer

Turn your ringtone volume all the way down to silence the camera shutter sound.

I used that one a couple of years ago. I believe you may have to change permissions for feature.xml to r w through root Explorer if I remember correctly.
Es Explorer will just do it automatically if it's root explorer setting it set to "ON".
let me know how it goes.

Awesome it worked! I didn't have to change anything. I guess somehow it picked up the change I made from before, and after I installed it, it made the changes automagically lol.

How to Disable Camera Shutter Sound! FINALLY!

There is a free app in the market called Shut up!Camera! Download and press the camera icon to disable the sound and THAT'S IT!! *Requires Root to use* You can press it again to enable the sound again, but who would want to do that?!? LOLOL!
You can just rename the sound file in the media ui folder. That will do it as well. However, I can kill the shutter sound but not the beep. Does this do the beep as well?
Nice find.

When I try to rename or do anything with files in that folder, it get an access denied error. Using Root Explorer or Astro with zedomax root.
What am I doing wrong here?

The app kills the shutter sound but not the beep. There is an alternative camera app called Vignette in the market that is better than the stock camera app that doesnt have a focus beep.
it doesn't mute camera shutter sound. sorry. have tried several camera apps that have the option to mute the shutter sound but the sound is still there.
It worked for me, Oh and your phone has to be ROOTED. Forget to mention that, sorry.
I renamed all my camera sounds weeks ago and all parts of my camera have been silent since.
You need root and root explorer, then go and rename all the camera sounds.
can you post the path to the camera sound files?
Thanks,

Can you expand on how to change the folder permissions? I am using Astro and cant seem to rename the files due to not having write access.
The easiest way is to use Root Explorer. Of course in any case, you HAVE to be rooted to do this.
Make sure you remount it to RO when finished. You're playing with the risky stuff if you do any of this.
Why don't you guys just use Potatoman's hacked camera? Much better quality and its silent. Search for the thread, it's easy to find. I don't have time to post a link right now.

This is from the hacked camera post. Haven't tested myself yet.
Additional info:
If you want to get rid of the shutter sound, create a file in /data called local.prop and add the line "ro.camera.sound.forced=0" and restart your phone. This removes both the shutter sound and the focus sound when your phone is on silent, but keeps the sound when it's not on silent. - llBlackenedll
Nevermind I answered my own question.
Ill be rooted tomorrow anyways

Wrong section bro. But yes, there is. Most roms have it built in but you can also search for 'potatoman' and use his mod. Follow the instructions in his post.

After you're rooted, use root explorer and go to:
/system/media/audio/ui/
Rename the shutter sounds to something else (example: rename Shutter_01.ogg to Shutter_01.ogg.bak). If you ever want the sound back, just rename it back.
Also Cam_Start.ogg and Cam_Stop.ogg are the camcorder start/stop sounds.

you'll need to be rooted, and use an app like Root Explorer, or any app that has a file manager that can access system level. go to System>App> and find two files, one is SamsungCamera.API and SamsungCamera.odex either change the name of both of these files (eg: SamsungCameraOLD.API and. odex) or delete them, either way SamsungCamera.API and SamsungCamera.odex should not exist anymore. now that you've done that, use that root file manger to place his hacked SamsungCamera.apk and place it in the same folder (System>App>). then restart your phone.
note* you may need to mount your R/W card, you can simply do that by the giant button at the top of Root Explorer.

If you're on a deodexed rom, then you won't have those files. Just reboot after dropping the apk in there, make sure your permissions are correct, and you'll be good to go.
What are the correct permissions? I tried flashing the zip through CWM but no go. I'm on a deodexed Rom also tried dropping the Samungcamera.apk file into system/app...
Thanks
I hear there was a camera mod that made shooting videos a much higher quality but it only worked for the international version of the GSlll. Perhaps doing it for this would be possible at a later date?

I am actually working on the higher bit-rates also. I have a few versions right now, in testing, the only issue I am running into right now is that when you use the power button for the shutter, it also triggers the power menu. It still takes the picture and all, but its an annoyance.
Has the video recorder always had that click-click sound whenever the ringer volume is on?? That's really annoying. I thought shutter sound in the camera controlled both.

CWM and TWRP installs are interchangeable in most, if not all cases. Definitely when you're talking about a simple script like this one.

Not necessarily true... I side loaded both these apps just fine in EsFile Explorer. Try going into recovery and fixing permisions and clear cache/dalvik, bet you already have install from unknown sources checked, but double check just in case. But in the later, it would prompt for you to change it when attempting to install :/

Yes, install button going disabled is a bug in android systems, not just Lux, or because of any other brightness reducer app!
If u have any brightness reducer app, it results in disabling the install button for installing any saved app(apps from playstore install without any problem).
Disabling this app will enable the "install" button.
