without root and Titanium Backup, what's the next best for data backup from Note 3? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 4

I'm currently running a backup on my Note 3 using Helium and planning to restore to my Note 4 tomorrow. I want to see if there are anything else better than helium that can backup and restore apps and data.
thanks

I think Helium is our only option for now. It worked like a charm restoring/transferring the apps and data from my Note 1 to Note 4.

Note 1 to note 4. Talk about an upgrade... Lol.
Enjoy it!

Can someone give some instruction on how to backup / restore from an old device to the note 4 using helium... I tried from a G3 to the note 4, and the note 4 is unable to restore. I'm getting no app found on the note 4 to restore. Thanks in advanced.

I heard about that issue a lot. So what I did was a device to device transfer:
1. Install and run Helium on rooted Note 1.
2. Install and run Helium on Note 4.
3. Connect Note 4 to the computer to activate the to backup/restore feature.
4. On the Note 4, select the Note 1 device under Helium's Restore/Sync tab.
5. Select and restore the apps and data.
No need to make any backup on Note 1.

just got my note 4 and tried to restore...now the problem is it can't see my external SD card...stupid kitkat thing...is there anyway around it without root?

You people are more ambitious than me......I'm just going to stare at my Note 4 until I can get root! LOL I don't think I can function anymore without Xposed

work around for helium was to copy the entire "carbon" folder over to the internal SD card, and restore from internal. restoring right now...really missing root already...

I was having a problem with that method, as helium on my note 4 wasn't finding any backups. Anyhelp on that method would be appreciated.

You myst be rooted for this. Use titanium backup to backup everything to your sdcard on the old phone. Then put that card in the new phone and restore. DO NOT RESTORE SYSTEM APPS OR DATA. That will only lead to major headache.

^^^like he said. Titanium backup. I have gone thru 6 phones in the last 2 years and always restore my games data with this app. Totally worth the price.

Slide to the left on the application screen (where you would freeze or uninstall it) in TB, you should see it down towards the bottom.
I don't think TB will move large data files (gameloft games), which I think is what the OP wants.
Ive tried using tb pro and its not working for me unfortunately. Thats with trying to move any size app. Hoping I can find a program to do this soon

Use link2sd.
With root you can probably also use Directory Bind to store game data into sd. I use it on my s3 and note 2. It's not in the app store but it's here in xda. Just Google it.

Here is my thing no one has said they have done it. I keep hearing probably with root!
I just need someone to confirm this, I don't want the gs4 if I can't install appa to a SD card.
DirectoryBind was great on the S3, but doesn't work on the S4. I installed FolderMount (pro) and it works beautifully.
Anyone try link2sd?

When you kick it off it wants to "replace a faulty module", did it ask you that when you first used it?

(1) titanium backup, whereas you might get problems as you already mentioned
(2) apps that support Google play service sync automatically
(3) I don't know
Edit: thanks, forgot that we use handy in German even if it is not really an English word for cellphone if I understand well. Living abroad for too long

@all,
can you say me the different between:
mnt/sdcard
sdcard
data/media/0
storage/emulated/0
storage/emulated/legacy
and many more.
They shows all on the internal "sdcard", is there a "FAQ" oder something whit an explanation?

If I am not wrong, this is related to the Multi User feature (E.g. User 2 will have /1) and hence the change that came with 4.2.2.

transferring data from old Samsung phone to Note 3

You need Kies 3 and Smartswitch.
http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/JSP#versionInfo
Before the migration, you have to use old (2.x) Kies to backup data and unplug your old phone after that, and quit old Kies.
Now plug in your Note 3 and run Kies 3 and use data transfer in tools menu.
Smartswitch will start and Kies will close.
You have to transfer data from other Samsung phone, and locate the backup data from your old Samsung phone (usually in \My Documents\Samsung\Kies\(your phone model).
Start data transfer.
I much prefer a selective restore using the SD card and titanium backup. Forces me to do a little house cleaning rather than transfer a bunch of junk. Fwiw.

I used paid and it works like a charm twice
Nandroid manager will restore your texts and call log and wifi and blue tooth pairings as well as apps. Just nandroid on old phone to external card and put the card in New phone and there you go
Easy method is http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/. I used it on my wifes phone and it did a backup of sms, pictures, media, etc and restored them on her new phone.

Kies would not see my note 2. Kies 3 saw my note 3 with no issue.
TWEAKED 2.5
restore data from note2 to note3
I used Kies to backup all data from Note 2 to my PC.
Then tried to use SmartSwitch on the PC to restore the date to my Note 3 by directing it to the proper directory on my PC.
However when pressing the transfer button the message says the files must be version 2.5.3 or above?
Any advice please, this is rather frustrating that Samsung can make good phone on hardware and software but NOT on the Utility Manager, unbelievable, this is where they are lacking caompared to Apple I suppose.
