Replacement SIII - What to capture/record before activating and or rooting? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Hi. My original S3 stopped charging and I just received the replacement. My plan is to use it for work since it is clean. They force us to use airwatch. Getting a Note 4 for my personal phone. Is there something that I should save off or insert before I activate it?
Thx

so you want to activate the Sprint or Boost Mobile of Virgin Mobile S3? and what is Air Watch?

I'm going to activate it on Sprint. Airwatch is a BYOD administration application. It detects among other things, whether the device is rooted. Then it invalidates your device. There doesn't seem to be a workaround. They fix every exploit as soon as it's implemented.

The air watch developers read xda and Google hired the root cloak developer.

You're not alone. This morning I couldn't see my funds and when I tapped on the prepaid card it said that it couldn't connect to the bank or something, so I also reset the app and now can't add a new card either. Hopefully it'll be resolved soon. Just got the Nexus and Google Wallet is pretty sexy.

I was bored enough to try.
When I called they confirmed it was down and they're currently "working on it."
Google Wallet has been down for at least 15 hours now. No response from Google on their Plus page or Twitter.
This is the service that they claim will replace our physical wallets?
1) Even if it was taken down intentionally for maintenance, there should have been a warning beforehand.
2) If this is unexpected downtime, they should've responded within 15 hours. It's a monday for Christ's sake, and I'm not aware of any US public holidays.
I'm going to be submitting this story to the tech blogs, and I hope you do the same. I've stuck by Wallet through all the negative press, but this episode demonstrates with absolute certainty that Google really aren't invested or interested in Google Wallet.

Day one with my S3

I've never loved a device so much. I think...I think i'm in love. From the gorgeous screen, to the amazing NFC...to the fact that google just randomly gave me 10$...to the ease of use of the toolkit in the dev section, the simplicity of rooting...the BUTTER smooth interface...its just...its just...ITS JUST TOO MUCH!

did you have to add a prepaid card to get the $10 or just activating activating google wallet?
Yeah, I loved it when google gave me $10 free for google wallet. I got like 6 sodas from a paypass enabled vending machine after that lol.

I'm coming from the Evo 3d. The S2 came out a little while after the 3d did so i was already stuck. I wasn't disappointed because i loved my 3vo. It was a great phone. Dual core and all. The screen on this new phone is just insane though. Watching 1080p movies and the way the colors just pop is unlike any mobile screen i've seen. I love the NFC too and how you can link nfc stickers to tasker profiles. i know you could do this with the s2 as well but its new to me. Theres just a bunch of little things ya know?

[Q] [Answered] Use Device Without Sprint Activation?

I was curious if the phone is useable without activating on Sprint network? I plan on purchasing a used one on eBay for use as a music player/movie player and for some casual games and retro gaming, but I did not know if Sprint required activation before you could use the phone. And if there is any way to effectively unlock the device so I don't have to worry about Sprint, that would be great too, although I realize CDMA is a strict network without using SIM cards, so it isn't as simple as removing the SIM card to get rid of Sprint. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Forerunner23
Yes... all you have to do is skip activation. Actually FreedomPop has a completely free plan with like 100 mins and 250MB of data on the Sprint network... Ting is also good and you just pay for what you use.

Awesome! Thank you.
Carriers can't block you from using a device, only mobile data and phone service.
My ROMs: Wicked X & Wicked S5 Xperience
Right. The only reason I questioned it is because I saw that the Moto G prepaid version had to be activated with the service before you could use it.

Ah okay. Thank you. I probably should have know the phone would work regardless, but I figured it would be better to know for sure and not buy an S3 that I couldn't use, which is not the case. Thanks so much!
Most Verizon smartphones require activation to use the phone period. At least the older ones do, but people found ways to bypass this by entering a code in the emergency dialer to make the home, menu and back keys work; in order to skip said forced activation......but the other bypass like on the Moto Droid X is touch the four corners of the screen....but i have only seen this with the older models....
That's why Verizon sucks, they lock down everything. I will never go with them.

I can use my
SPH-L710 Sprint S3
without activating mobile data.
You can use the S3 Wi-Fi if you have access
to high-speed wireless networks.
Also, I just would like to recommend the following apps for your S3
UberMusic as your Music player
and
VLC for your movies/videos

hotspot on old unlimited plan

Wondering if there is a way to get the hotspot feature working on the old version of unlimited data for verizon? I kept this plan specifically to avoid throttling because I do use much more than 21GB a month (around 35-50 on average) and I occasionally use hotspot in congested areas.
Tried foxfi, no dice. Any other suggestions?
I was just about to ask the same thing.
I just came from a pixel and I know if you popped out the SIM card and then quickly turn on the hotspot while putting the sim card back and it would work. Doesn't seem to work with the S8 ?
The SIM technique worked for me!
I used over 200gb last month with probably 70gb of that from tethering. I don't think throttling is really an issue.

Let me know if that works, I'm also following a thread on the s8 forum. It looks like some people were able to get a carrier nutural version which I'd believe would allow us to bypass the hotspot check all together

Ok, so until this post I had no idea about the Sim Card Technique. It took like 5 tries to get it to work, but once you initate the SIM card you have about 2 seconds for tethering to work.
I got it to work on my S8+

You sir are amazing!
I'll vouch this works as well. Took me 2 tries, but it works.
I pay for the hot-spot just to avoid being kicked off. Didn't Verizon kick people off who passes 100 or 200 GB in a month.

It's funny they try to scare you into updating your phone. I have never ever had an issue with calling out.

Funny I don't have issues... If I did I would just go back to using my rooted Moto X Pure anyway or the Note 4. I always have a few phones to use on standby.
Plus there are alot of negitive posts about the updates and people wanting to flash back so why take the update. I don't see a reason.
Don't try to fix what's not broke. So far my S8+ is doing well other than we can't unlock the bootloader and root.
I will move on to another device before long that is. :good:
:silly:
Another reason not to update... You do these updates and all Verizon does is put more crap apps on your phone... I would never buy a branded verizon phone again. unlocked is the only way to go.
Then you don't get to ***** when the tides are turned and the unlocked versions are the last ones to get any kind of update on them. Cause lately that's what I've been seeing...the unlocked versions may not have any "carrier bloat" but they are SO FAR behind in updates (Security or OS updates)

Don't really care about updates... If the phone works I leave it alone!!
If I was worried about it I would go back to rooting and do the custom ROM thing again.
