near as I can tell your one is from Cinncinati Bell and you'll probably never see an update. It's similar to a T-mobile One if memory serves me right. Anyway you'll need S-OFF to convert your phone to DE or international if you want to receive updates

and can i install rom.zip without s-off like htc m7 or have to on s-off ?

Basically if you want 4.4.4 you will have to unlock s-off convert to a different firmware

you can flash roms without s-off, but some roms are going to need firmware that's up to date. Your phone will not get that up to date firmware unless you get s-off and do the developer edition conversion ( change CID and MID and flash DE RUU)
As Far as your phone being international it really should not matter as long as it's working on the carrier you use, it is a LTE compatable M8_UL

You need to s-off and update firmware to run that ROM, otherwise you will have some serious issues including long (like 5-10 minute) boot times and broken WiFi.
Same is going to happen if you try to run any 4.4.3 Sense based custom ROMs coming from 4.4.2.
Just search and read if want more info on firmware. This has been discussed probably dozens of times on other threads.

Do you still want to convert the phone to Developer Edition ?
If you want to just use the international firmware their here > http://xda7.androidrevolution.org/db_mirror/Firmware/index.php?dir=HTC/HTC_One_M8/401/
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
fastboot reboot
If your looking to convert, you change your CID to BS_US002
and MID to 06PB12000 >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708581
and then use the RUU here >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/development/ruu-developer-edition-3-28-1540-5-t2918749
fastboot oem writecid BS_US002

Just look in the Development forum section for the threads regarding firmware. You can flash after the fact (after ROM is already installed). But I normally recommend to backup any important data before flashing just about anything "just in case".

Relocking bootloader is not required or suggested.
I'm not sure which firmware goes with your CID. You'll need to research yourself, unless somebody who knows chimes in.
As long as you have a GSM M8, the firmware should be fine. But you may or may not experience some minor network issues, if the firmware is not intended for your carrier.

Vodafone UK? What was the original CID and Version number? VODAP001 and x.xx.161.x ?
COLLECTION of Stock backup's has nandroid backups for both 1.12.161.17 and 1.54.161.5 . The stock recovery is also at that thread though it's only for the 1.54.161.5.
I see it's TWRP nandroid backups though, so hopefully you already have TWRP recovery on. Then just download the nandroid backups, unzip it into the SD card backup folder for TWRP i.e TWRP/Backups/serialnum/ Just replace serialnum with your device serial number and restore nandroid backup. It'll then take you to 1.54.161.5 if there's a new OTA for it then just apply and you have latest then. Just make sure to flash back stock recovery before you attempt OTA.

Yeah you can basically "convert" it to any though you probably won't always get the OTA updates. You'll probably have to end up flashing the OTA update's .zip file from within RUU. I think you'll be fine for OTA's if you do it for example, dev edition, unlock edition, international WWE version, they get updates from HTC itself, the carrier specific OTA's will probably have to be flashed. I say probably because I haven't converted to and from any carrier specific device myself.
But yeah, if you're S-OFF and supercid you can flash just about anything. Careful though... Else the next thread we'll be discussing in is "HELP!!! I THINK I BRICKED MY PHONE!!!!!!" :cyclops:

There is no need to change your MID unless you are planning to change over to a developer edition. Stock firmware already includes stock recovery. I don't see that you have stock ROM listed.

Oh, I thought you just wanted it back to stock to return for repairs. To receive OTA updates, I believe the CID of your phone must match the CID of the firmware/Stock ROM you are flashing. I don't believe you need to change the MID but it might not hurt. Flash Stock ROM first, the Firmware.
Thought I'd post in here seeing as I'm in the UK so get everything about ROM versions, etc...
There are no RUUs available for the M8 bar a few US carrier ones. It sucks but there are other way around it, and with you being S-OFF you have a lot of options. One is to convert the phone to 100% stock, EU, unbranded but Vodafone will then refuse repair so you'd be stuck paying for it. The other is to use the stock backups on here to go back to the Vodafone build, but if you've flashed a different FW build this will also fail repair if checked.
Regarding the MID, all EU handsets have the same one so you don't ever have to worry about changing it at any point
If you can find one of the Vodafone OTA updates I can knock something up for you but I don't remember seeing anyone posting one...

SuperCID question

I'm S-off but I never thought at the time to set superCID to 11111111, now I believe I have to have SuperCID set to this in order to flash firmware update, my question is how do I go about doing this without having to do firewater S-off again?
You don't have to redo S-Off again.
As long as your device is S-Off, simply reboot to bootloader/fastboot mode
then run command
fastboot oem writecid 11111111
Good stuff cheers mate

...flashing firmware that is designed for a phone from a different region or carrier.
I have the unbranded M8, with the CID: BS_US001. Do I need SuperCID if I only want to flash custom ROMs? I'm just wondering if it's better to have it and not need it? I'm s-off and rooted, btw.

super CID normally only helps if your trying to flash firmware meant for a different region / type.
i use a tmobile m8 so my CID is TMOB010 if i remember right lols....
if i feel like flashing my firmware to GPE so that i can fully convert the phone to GPE phone they i need superCID.
thats the best example.
I went ahead and changed it. I figured what the hell.

CID you can find using THIS (or just by booting the phone into HBOOT)
To root the phone, you just need to follow one of the many guides online
S-OFF you'll need Sunshine
Then follow my guide and you're good to go!

I performed the following steps, so maybe it helps a little:
1) Searched and downloaded stock firmware, hboot and recovery
2) Unlock Bootloader via htcdev
3) Install custom recovery (I used TWRP)
4) flashed root via recovery (e.g. Chainfire SuperSU)
5) performed sunshine s-off
6) flashed HTC stock firmware
7) flashed HTC stock boot
8) changed CID via adb/fastboot
9) flashed stock HTC recovery
Here you go you are debranded.
Pay attention when downloading stock firmware, recovery and hboot, als they should all have the same version number (e.g. 1.54.401.10).

Firmware upgrade problem

Okay my original Cid is H3G__106 and I'm super Cid now, I downloaded htc 001 nandroid backup and changed my Cid to htc 001, as well looked for updates but the update fails in philz.
I need the newer firmware for the new viper rom. (4.4.3 base).
How can I get it?

Did you try to convert your device to international? MID and everything changed to International version? I'm not sure what the MID is for your device but if it's different than 0P6B10000 (International WWE) then it had to have been changed as well before you can convert to WWE version.
401.5 ? For what, 1.54.401.5 ... 2.22.401.5 ?
If you don't want to convert to International, rather go back download your backup from the collection thread and update your device to newest firmware from there.

Atm I'm 1.54.401.5
Problem is the stock thread doesn't have philz recovery backup for h3g 106 1.54.401.5

The guides that I saw are for changing AT&T into Developer Edition or [GUIDE] S-OFF REQUIRED!! full conversion of GSM m8s to dev edition
Even though it's converting to a developer edition the philosophy behind it is the same when you change to WWE International version. Just use the correct backups, firmwares, MID and CID.
In step 1 you'll follow the thread and use the code for the HTC_Europe MID (0P6B10000).
For step 2 you'll just use HTC__001 as as the CID
Step 3 you'll grab the nandroid backup + stock recovery for the WWE International version (x.xx.401.x ) Rather use an older version like 1.54.401.5/10 and do updates from there, it'll be easier if you don't want to manually flash firmware and OTA's.
If you continue the way he has it in his guide then you'll get the firmware from the OTA collection thread(Just extract it from OTA.zip) or you can get firmware for device from mike1986's Androidrevolution.org
It's for a different device but the idea is the exact same.

1.54.401.5 is old Venom ROM version no.
H3G__106 firmware is : 1.54.771.9 (for 4.2.2) and you need the updated firmware 2.22.771.5 to run Venom 4.4.3
So download the OTA 1.54.771.9 -> 2.22.771.5 thanks @houstie, open it with 7-zip, extract out the firmware.zip and flash that in RUU mode.
Then reflash Philz recovery and install latest Venom ROM ...done

And placing the correct firmware/rom on it. You are S-OFF though, right? I didn't see you mention it so I'm just basically running on an assumption here?

Why not. Twrp is not "better" than philz and vice versa.....
If you want ViperOne, you'll want to switch to TWRP. It's on the OP on their thread.
Also, the super id I use is 11111111. Try that and see if it works.
Sorry I didn't quote you Mr Hofs, but I'm not sure how to yet on tapatalk.
EDIT just figured it out. Next time

post the fastboot getvar all of both phones please without imei and serial number please.
Do not use toolkits, more trouble than their worth.
to root, flash TWRP 2.8.6.0 recovery, get it from here: http://dl.twrp.me/m8/
then flash superSU 2.46.zip from here: http://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU/
when phone reboots to android, complete root setup by opening SuperSU app and update the binary if required.

do you know how to use adb and fastboot ?
GPe custom roms require a custom recovery, if you want to do a full convert to GPe, you will need s-off.

do a fastboot getvar all, it will tell you what your current model ID and cid is.
to change cid the command is fastboot oem writecid (whatever you need it to be, alway 8 characters long and capitals) requiresd cid is in the GPe conversion thread
to change mid follow this guide, required mid is in the GPe conversion thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708581
then just follow the GPe conversion thread I linked earlier
This is what fastboot getvar all looks like, full device info:
